Traversable Casimir Wormholes in D Dimensions

Wormholes (WH) require negative energy, and therefore an exotic matter source. Since Casimir energy is negative, it has been speculated as a good candidate to source that objects a long time ago. However only very recently a full solution for D = 4 has been found by Garattini [1], thus the Casimir energy can be a source of traversable WHs. Soon later Alencar et al [2] have shown, that this is not true in D = 3. In this paper, we show that Casimir energy can be a source of the Morris-Thorne WH for all spacetime with D > 3. Finally, we add the cosmological constant and find that for D = 3 Casimir WHs are possible, however, the space must always being AdS. For D > 3, we show that the cosmological constant invert the signal with increasing throat size.

Universal Mass Scale for Bosonic Fields in Multi-Brane Worlds

In this paper we find an universal mass scale for all $p-$forms in multi-brane worlds model. It is a known fact the this model provides an ultralight mode for the fields. However, to get this, the Lagrangians considered in the literature are not covariant. In order to solve this, we propose a covariant version to multi-localize $q-$form fields. As a consequence of the covariance, we show that all the $q$-form fields have an ultralight mode with the same mass that the gravitational one. That way we show that there is an universal mass scale for the ultralight modes of the bosonic fields. This suggests that a new physics must emerge, for all theses fields, at the same scale. After that, we revisit the results that consider a crystal manyfold background in the Randall-Sundrum scenary (RS), and add the discussion related to geometrical couplings in such a configuration. The wave functions of fields trapped in the crystal are Bloch-like waves, and their behavior is very similar to electrons inside a lattice, just like in the Kronig-Penney model (KP). We compute the mass dispersion relations for those fields with and without a dilaton coupling. It leads to new results for the band gap structure of these fields. In the case of the Kalb-Ramond field, and with the correct dispersion relation, there is no gap between the mass bands. Also, always that the field is coupled with the dilaton, its first mass mode decreases. When the generalization to the $q-$form is done, we show that it is not possible to suppress or generate mass for the fields by controlling the dilaton coupling, differently of what was argued previously.

Asymptotic States of Accelerated Qubits with Nonzero Background Temperature

The study of the Unruh effect naturally raises the interest for a deeper understanding of the analogy between temperature and acceleration. A recurring question is whether an accelerated frame can be distinguished from an inertial thermal bath in pure thermodynamic experiments, such problem has been approached in the literature and a consensus is yet to be fully reached. In the present work we use the open quantum system formalism to investigate the case where both acceleration and background temperature are present. We find the asymptotic state density and entanglement generation from the Markovian evolution of accelerated qubits interacting with a thermal state of the external scalar field. Our results suggest that there is a very small asymmetry on the effects of the Unruh and background temperatures. Addressing the nonzero background temperature case is of both theoretical and phenomenological interest, thus the authors hope to enrich the existing discussions on the topic.

Comment on "Casimir effect in a weak gravitational field: Schwinger's approach"

We show that the statement in F. Sorge [Class. Quant. Grav. 36, no.23, 235006 (2019)] that the Casimir effect receives second order corrections due to gravity is not consistent. We remark especially on the tracing of the proper time Hamiltonian, where the correct procedure is to use the eigenfunctions and eigenvalues of the covariant DAlembertian. After some cancellations we find that the value of the functional W [0] is the same as obtained by Sorge. However, we argue that the proper vacuum energy density carries extra space-time volume terms that cancel over the gravitational correction, returning to the same expression as in Minkowski space-time.

Consistency Conditions for Fields Localization on Braneworlds

The general procedure for analyzing the localization of matter fields in Brane models is by integrating, in the action, its zero mode solutions over the extra dimensions. If this is finite, the field is said to be localized. However, the zero mode solutions must also satisfy the Einstein equations. With this in mind, we obtain stringent constraints on a general energy-momentum tensor by analyzing the Einstein's equations. These {\it consistency conditions} must be satisfied for any Braneworld model. We apply it for some fields of the Standard Model. For a free massless scalar field, the zero-mode localization is consistent only if the field does not depend on the extra dimensions. About the spin $\frac{1}{2}$ field with Yukawa-like interactions, we find a very specific relation between Yukawa function and the warp factor. As a consequence, the spinor field localization becomes inconsistent for most of the models studied in the literature. For the free vector field case we find that, independent of the braneworld or the number of extra dimensions, the zero-mode do not satisfy the consistency conditions. Finally, we consider the mechanisms proposed to localize this field. We find that a few survive, and even for these, the consistency conditions fix the free parameters or the possible class of solutions allowed.

Null second order corrections to Casimir energy in weak gravitational field: The Schwinger's approach

We show through Schwinger's approach that in a static weak gravitational background, the Casimir Energy for a real massless scalar field obeying Dirichlet boundary conditions on rectangular plates is unaltered from it's flat space-time value. The result is obtained considering an rather general class of backgrounds, adding further generality and consistency test for the previous work. The proposed result has direct consequences on earlier works in the literature that found gravity related corrections for similar setups.

Localization of a Model With U(1) Kinetic Gauge Mixing

In this paper we study the localization of a model with kinetic gauge mixing on a thin membrane. The model we discuss is a theory for millicharged particles, proposed by Holdom in 1985, and that now is object of study in the LHC. We propose a geometrical coupling between the gauge fields, the Ricci scalar and the Ricci tensor. We show that it is possible to localize such a model by regarding specific values for the coupling constants. We find the solutions for the two gauge fields and discuss the localization for scalar fields that appears naturally in the process. We show that not necessarily the gauge and scalar fields are localized at the same time.

Null Second Order Corrections to Casimir Energy in Weak Gravitational Field

The discussion of vacuum energy is currently a subject of great theoretical importance, specially concerning the cosmological constant problem in General Relativity. From Quantum Field Theory, it is stated that vacuum states subject to boundary conditions may generate tensions on these boundaries related to a measurable non-zero renormalized vacuum energy: the Casimir Effect. As such, investigating how these vacuum states and energy behave in curved backgrounds is just natural and might provide important results in the near future. In this paper we revisit a model of the Casimir Effect in weak gravitational field background, which has been proposed and further generalized in the literature. A trick originally used to simplify calculations is shown to lead to a wrong value for the energy shift, and by performing explicit mode expansion we arrive at an unexpected result: null gravitational correction even at order $(M/R)^2$, in opposition to earlier results.

Generalized non-minimal couplings in Randall-Sundrum scenarios

The Geometrical Localization mechanism in Randall-sundrum (RS) scenarios is extended by considering the coupling between a quadratic mass term and geometrical tensors. Since the quadratic term is symmetric, tensors with two symmetric indices have to be taken into account. These are the Ricci and the Einstein tensors. For the Ricci tensor it is shown that a localized zero mode exists while that is not possible for the Einstein tensor. It is already known that the Ricci scalar generates a localized solution but the metrics do not. Therefore, it can be conclude that divergenceless tensors do not localize the zero mode of gauge fields. The result is valid for any warp factor recovering the RS metrics at the boundaries, and therefore is valid for RS I and II models. We also compute resonances for all couplings. These are calculated using the transfer matrix method. The cases studied consider the standard RS with delta-like branes, and branes generated by kinks and domain-wall as well. The parameters are changed to control the thickness of the smooth brane. We find that, for all cases considered, geometrical coupling does not generate resonances. This enforces similar results for the coupling with the Ricci scalar and points to the existence of some unidentified fundamental structure of these couplings.

About the cosmological constant in geometric scalar theory of gravity

In this paper we study how to include the cosmological constant in geometric scalar theory of gravity (GSG). Firstly we show that the cosmological constant could not be modeled by a matter field, unlike in General Relativity. We also show that a spherically symmetric matter distribution, over the de Sitter vacuum, does not produce the Kottler solution and no black hole. To circumvent this problem we introduce an coupling term between the scalar field and the vacuum curvature in way to provide the Kottler solution. We also apply the original (GSGI) and the modified (GSGII) geometric scalar theory of gravity to the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmology. A numerical analysis indicates that GSGII is most sensible to the cosmological constant them GSGI.

Does Geometric Coupling Generates Resonances?

Geometrical coupling in a co-dimensional one Randall-Sundrum scenario (RS) is used to study resonances of $p-$form fields. The resonances are calculated using the transfer matrix method. The model studied consider the standard RS with delta-like branes, and branes generated by kinks and domain-wall as well. The parameters are changed to control the thickness of the smooth brane. With this a very interesting pattern is found for the resonances. The geometrical coupling does not generate resonances for the reduced $p-$form in all cases considered.

Massive $p$-form trapping as a $p$-form on a brane

It is shown here that the zero mode of any form field can be trapped to the brane using the model proposed by Ghoroku and Nakamura. We start proven that the equations of motion can be obtained without splitting the field in even and odd parts. The massive and tachyonic cases are studied revealing that this mechanism only traps the zero mode. The result is then generalized to thick branes. In this scenario, the use of a delta like interaction of the quadratic term is necessary leading to a "mixed" potential with singular and smooth contributions. It is also shown that all forms produces an effective theory in the brane without gauge fixing. The existence of resonances with the transfer matrix method is then discussed. With this we analyze the resonances and look for peaks indicating the existence of unstable modes. Curiously no resonances are found in opposition of other models in the literature. Finally we find analytical solutions for arbitrary $p-$forms when a specific kind of smooth scenario is considered.

Non-minimal couplings in Randall-Sundrum Scenarios

In this paper we propose a new way of obtaining four dimensional gauge invariant $U(n)$ gauge field from a bulk action. The results are valid for both Randall-Sundrum scenarios and are obtained without the introduction of other fields or new degrees of freedom. The model is based only in non-minimal couplings with the gravity field. We show that two non-minimal couplings are necessary, one with the field strength and the other with a mass term. Despite the loosing of five dimensional gauge invariance by the mass term a massless gauge field is obtained over the brane. To obtain this, we need of a fine tuning of the two parameters introduced through the couplings. The fine tuning is obtained by imposing the boundary conditions and to guarantee non-abelian gauge invariance in four dimensions. With this we are left with no free parameters and the model is completely determined. The model also provides analytical solutions to the linearized equations for the zero mode and for a general warp factor.

Photon mass as a probe to extra dimensions

In this manuscript we show that the geometrical localization mechanism implies a four dimensional mass for the photon. The consistence of the model provides a mass given exactly by $m_γ=\sqrt{R}/4$ where $R$ is the Ricci scalar. As a consequence, the cosmological photon has a mass related to the vacuum solution of the Einstein equation. At the present age of the universe we have a dS vacuum with $R=4Λ$, where Lambda is a positive cosmological constant. With this we find that $m_γ\approx 2\times 10^{-69}$ kg, which is below the present experimental upper bounds, and such correction may be observed in the next years with more precise measurements. By considering the value of $R$ inside some astrophysical sources and environments we find that the bound is also satisfied. The experimental verification of this mass, beyond pointing to the existence of extra dimensions, would imply in a fundamental change in cosmology, astrophysics and in particle physics since the same mechanism is valid for non-abelian gauge fields.

Gauge Field Emergence from Kalb-Ramond Localization

A new mechanism, valid for any smooth version of the Randall-Sundrum model, of getting localized massless vector field on the brane is described here. This is obtained by dimensional reduction of a five dimension massive two form, or Kalb-Ramond field, giving a Kalb-Ramond and an emergent vector field in four dimensions. A geometrical coupling with the Ricci scalar is proposed and the coupling constant is fixed such that the components of the fields are localized. The solution is obtained by decomposing the fields in transversal and longitudinal parts and showing that this give decoupled equations of motion for the transverse vector and KR fields in four dimensions. We also prove some identities satisfied by the transverse components of the fields. With this is possible to fix the coupling constant in a way that a localized zero mode for both components on the brane is obtained. Then, all the above results are generalized to the massive $p-$form field. It is also shown that in general an effective $p$ and $(p-1)-$forms can not be localized on the brane and we have to sort one of them to localize. Therefore, we can not have a vector and a scalar field localized by dimensional reduction of the five dimensional vector field. In fact we find the expression $p=(d-1)/2$ which determines what forms will give rise to both fields localized. For $D=5$, as expected, this is valid only for the KR field.

Gauge Field Localization on the Brane Through Geometrical Coupling

In this paper we consider a geometrical Yukawa coupling as a solution to the problem of gauge field localization. We show that upon dimensional reduction the vector field component of the field is localized but the scalar component ($A_5$) is not. We show this for any smooth version of the Randall-Sundrum model. The covariant version of the model with geometrical coupling simplify the generalization to smooth versions generated by topological defects. This kind of model has been considered some time ago, but there it has been introduced two free parameters in order to get a localized solution which satisfy the boundary conditions: a mass term in five dimensions and a coupling with the brane. The boundary condition fix one of them and the model is left with one free parameter $M$. First we show that by considering a Yukawa coupling with the Ricci scalar it is possible to unify these two parameter in just one fixed by the boundary condition. With this we get a consistent model with no free parameters and the mass term can be interpreted as a coupling to the cosmological constant.

New Analytical Solutions for Bosonic Field Trapping in Thick Branes

New analytical solutions for gravity, scalar and vector field localization in Randall-Sundrum(RS) models are found. A smooth version of the warp factor with an associated function $f(z)=\exp(3A(z)/2)$ inside the walls ($|z|<d$) is defined, leading to an associated equation and physical constraints on the continuity and smoothness of the background resulting in a new space of analytical solutions. We solve this associated equation analytically for the parabolic and Pöschl-Teller potentials and analyze the spectrum of resonances for these fields. By using the boundary conditions we are able to show that, for any of these solutions, the density probability for finding a massive mode in the membrane has a universal behavior for small values of mass given by $|ψ_m(0)|^2=β_1m+β_3m^3+β_L m^3\log(m)+\cdots$. As a consequence, the form of the leading order correction, for example, to the Newton's law is general and does not depend on the potential used. At the end we also discuss why complications arises when we try to use the method to find analytical solutions to the fermion case.

Revisiting Gribov's Copies Inside The Horizon

In this work, we recover the problem of legitimate topologically trivial Gribov copies inside the Gribov horizon. We avoid the reducibility problem which hampered the standard construction of van Baal, and then we are able to build a valid example with spherical symmetry. We also apply the same technique in the presence of a background of a Polyakov instanton in a Euclidian 3D spacetime, in order to study the effect of a non trivial environment in the generation of multiple copies inside the horizon.

Solutions to the problem of ELKO spinor localization in brane models

In this paper we present two different solutions to the problem of zero mode localization of ELKO spinor. In a recent paper the present authors reopened this problem since the solution presented before did not satisfy the boundary condition at the origin. The first solution is given by the introduction of a mass term and by coupling the spinor with the brane through a delta function. The second solution is reached by a Yukawa geometrical coupling with the Ricci scalar. This two models changes consistently the the boundary condition at infinity and at the origin. For the case of Geometrical coupling we are able to show that the zero mode is localized for any smooth version of the RS model.

Three-dimensional Dirac oscillator in a thermal bath

The thermal properties of the three-dimensional Dirac oscillator are considered. The canonical partition function is determined, and the high-temperature limit is assessed. The degeneracy of energy levels and their physical implications on the main thermodynamic functions are analyzed, revealing that these functions assume values greater than the one-dimensional case. So that at high temperatures, the limit value of the specific heat is three times bigger.

Bosonic Fields in Crystal Manyfolds

A chain-like or a 1D crystal-like universe made of intersecting membranes in extra dimensions in a Randall-Sundrum scenario is studied. A background gravitational metric satisfying the right boundary conditions is considered to study the localization of the scalar, gauge and Kalb-Ramond field. It is found that the wave function for the fields are Bloch waves. The mass modes equations are calculated allowing us to show the zero-gap mass behavior and the mass dispersion relation for each field. Finally we generalize all these results and consider $q-$forms in the crystal membrane universe. We show that, depending to the dimension $D$, the form $q$ and the dilation coupling $λ$ the mass spectrum can be the same for the different bosonic field studied.

Construction of Multiple Spherical Branes Cosmological Scenario

The general solution of Einstein's gravity equation in $D$ dimensions for an anisotropic and spherically symmetric matter distribution is calculated in a bulk with position dependent cosmological constant. Results for $n$ concentric $(D-2)-$branes with arbitrary mass, radius and pressure with different cosmological constant between branes are found. It is shown how the difference between the cosmological constant contributes to the effective mass of each brane, and it is also shown that the equation of state for each brane influences the dynamics of branes, which can be divided into eras according to the dominant matter. This scenario can be used to model the universe in the D=5 case, which may presents a richer phenomenology than the current models. The evolution law of the branes is studied, and the anisotropic pressure that remove divergences is found. The Randall-Sundrum metric in an outside region in the flat branes limit is also derived.

Cosmologies of Multiple Spherical Brane-universe Model

The Friedmann-Robertson-Walker metric with spherical topology is calculated as an effective metric at the brane in a multiple branes in $D-$dimensional spacetime scenario. In this model the radius of the brane is the cosmological scale factor, and its evolution is calculated from the viewpoint of the observers on their respective branes. The cosmology of the brane-universe is analyzed in cases where the anisotropic pressure has a cosmological constant like state equation. The pressure values needed to distinguish the oscillating, expanding or collapsing solutions are found, and the minimum value of a brane-universe mass to prevent a collapse into a black hole is also calculated. Finally the equation of motion is solved numerically in order to illustrate the different cosmological scenarios and to validate the analytical results.

Deviation of Large Scale Gravitoelectromagnetic Field in Post-Newtonian Approximation

In this work a study of the gravity is made using Einstein's equation in the post-Newtonian approach. This is a method to linearise the General Relativity indicated to treat non-relativistic objects. It enables us to construct, from metric-independent elements, fields that are governed by equations similar to the Maxwell's ones in Lorentz gauge. We promediate these equations for matter distributed in local systems, like solar systems or galaxies. Finally we define the large scale fields for this distribution, which includes terms analogous to electromagnetic case, like polarization, magnetization and superiors terms.

A Transfer Matrix Method for Resonances in Randall-Sundrum Models III: An analytical comparison

The transfer matrix method is used to analyze resonances in Randall-Sundrum models. Although it has successfully been used previously by us we provide here a comparison between the numerical and analytical models. To reach this we first find new exact solution for the scalar, gauge, Kalb-Ramond and $q-$form fields. Them we calculate numerically the resonances by the transfer matrix method and compare with the analytical result. For completeness, this is done for models with and without the dilaton coupling. The results show a perfect agreement between the analytical and numerical methods.

An Exact Solution to the Quantized Electromagnetic Field in D-dimensional de Sitter Spacetimes

In this work we investigate the quantum theory of light propagating in $D-$dimensional de Sitter spacetimes. To do so, we use the method of dynamic invariants to obtain the solution of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation. The quantum behavior of the electromagnetic field in this background is analyzed. As the electromagnetism loses its conformality in $D\neq4$, we point that there will be particle production and comoving objects will feel a Bunch-Davies thermal bath. This may become important in extra dimension physics and raises the intriguing possibility that precise measurements of the Cosmic Microwave Background could verify the existence of extra dimensions.

Following Henyey procedure, we construct examples of zero modes of the Faddev-Popov operator in the Landau gauge in Euclidean space in D dimensions, for both SU(2) and SU(3 groups. We consider gauge field configurations $A^a_μ$ which give rise to a field strength, $F^a_{μν} =\partial_μA^a_ν-\partial_νA^a_μ+ f^{abc}A^b_μA^c_ν$, whose nonlinear term, $ f^{abc}A^b_μA^c_ν$, turns out to be nonvanishing. Quantum Kalb-Ramond Field in D-dimensional de Sitter Spacetimes

In this work we investigate the quantum theory of the Kalb-Ramond fields propagating in $D-$dimensional de Sitter spacetimes using the dynamic invariant method developed by Lewis and Riesenfeld [J. The wave function is written in terms of a $c-$number quantity satisfying of the Milne-Pinney equation, whose solution can be expressed in terms of two independent solutions of the respective equation of motion. We obtain the exact solution for the quantum Kalb-Ramond field in the de Sitter background and discuss its relation with the Cremmer-Scherk-Kalb-Ramond model.

Quantum Scalar Field in D-dimensional de Sitter Spacetimes

In this work we investigate the quantum theory of scalar fields propagating in a $D-$dimensional de Sitter spacetime. The method of dynamic invariants is used to obtain the solution of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation. The quantum behavior of the scalar field in this background is analyzed, and the results generalize previous ones found in the literature. A Transfer Matrix Method for Resonances in Randall-Sundrum Models

In this paper we discuss in detail a numerical method to study resonances in membranes generated by domain walls in Randall-Sundrum-like scenarios. It is based on similar works to understand the quantum mechanics of electrons subject to the potential barriers that exist in heterostructures in semiconductors. This method was used recently to study resonances of a three form field and lately generalized to arbitrary forms. We apply it to a lot of important models, namely those that contain the Gauge, Gravity and Spinor fields. In many cases we find a rich structure of resonances which depends on the parameters involved.

We consider membranes that are generated by a class of topological defects that are deformed domain walls obtained from other previously known ones. They are obtained by a deformation procedure generate different potentials to the associated Schrödinger-like equation. The resonance spectra are calculated numerically using the method of Transfer Matrix developed by the authors and presented in JHEP 1108 (2011) 071. The new deformed defects change the resonances spectra of all fields considered and the associated phenomenology as well.

Dual Spaces of Resonance In Thick $p-$Branes

In this work we consider $q-$form fields in a $p-$brane embedded in a $D=(p+2)$ space-time. The membrane is generated by a domain wall in a Randall-Sundrum-like scenario. We study conditions for localization of zero modes of these fields. The expression agrees and generalizes the one found for the zero, one, two and three-forms in a $3-$brane. By a generalization we mean that our expression is valid for any form in an arbitrary dimension with codimension one. We also point out that, even without the dilaton coupling, some form fields are localized in the membrane. The massive modes are considered and the resonances are calculated using a numerical method. We find that different spaces have identical resonance structures, which we call dual spaces of resonances(DSR).

RNS and Pure Spinors Equivalence for Type I Tree Level Amplitudes Involving up to Four Fermions

This result have been obtained previously for amplitudes involving only closed or open amplitudes and here we extend it to include Type I amplitudes. For this we first prove the cyclic symmetry of Type I superstring in a way that it is also valid for the Pure Spinor formalism. The technique used is applied to simplify the calculation of the tree level three point amplitude previously computed. A note on black hole entropy, area spectrum, and evaporation

We argue that a process where a fuzzy space splits in two others can be used to explain the origin of the black hole entropy, and why a "generalized second law of thermodynamics" appears to hold in the presence of black holes. We reach the Bekenstein-Hawking formula from the count of the microstates of a black hole modeled by a fuzzy space. In this approach, a discrete area spectrum for the black hole, which becomes increasingly spaced as the black hole approaches the Planck scale, is obtained. We show that, as a consequence of this, the black hole radiation becomes less and less entropic as the black hole evaporates, in a way that some information about its initial state could be recovered.

Antisymmetric Tensor Fields in Randall Sundrum Thick Branes

In this article we study the issue of localization of the three-form field in a Randall-Sundrum-like scenario. We simulate our membrane by kinks embedded in D=5, describing the usual case (not deformed) and new models coming from a specific deformation procedure. The gravitational background regarded includes the dilaton contribution. We show that we can only localize the zero-mode of this field for a specific range of the dilaton coupling, even in the deformed case. A study about resonances is presented. We use a numerical approach for calculations of the transmission coefficients associated to the quantum mechanical problem. This gives a clear description of the physics involved in the model. We find in this way that the appearance of resonances is strongly dependent on the coupling constant. We study the cases $p=1,3$ and 5 for $α=-1.75$ and $α=-20$. The first value of $α$ give us one resonance peak for $p=1$ and no resonances for $p=3,5$. The second value of $α$ give us a very rich structure of resonances, with number deppending on the value of $p$.

A superspace gauge-invariant formulation of a massive tridimensional 2-form field

By dimensional reduction of a massive supersymmetric B$\wedge $F theory, a manifestly N=1 supersymmetric completion of a massive antisymmetric tensor gauge theory is constructed in (2+1) dimensions. In the N=1-D=3 superspace, a new topological term is used to give mass for the Kalb-Ramond field. We have introduced a massive gauge invariant model using the Stuckelberg formalism and an abelian topologically massive theory for the Kalb-Ramond superfield. An equivalence of both massive models is suggested. Further, a component field analysis is performed, showing a second supersymmetry in the model.
