Engineering Optical Rogue Waves and Breathers in a Coupled Nonlinear Schrödinger System with Four-Wave Mixing Effect

We consider a coherently coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equation with modulated self-phase modulation, cross-phase modulation, and four-wave mixing nonlinearities and varying refractive index in anisotropic graded index nonlinear medium. By identifying an appropriate similarity transformation, we obtain a general localized wave solution and investigate their dynamics with a proper set of modulated nonlinearities. In particular, our study reveals different manifestations of localized waves such as stable solitons, Akhmediev breathers, Ma breathers, and rogue waves of bright, bright-dark, and dark-dark type and explores their manipulation mechanism with suitably engineered nonlinearity parameters. We have provided a categorical analysis with adequate graphical demonstrations.

Manipulation of vector solitons in a system of inhomogeneous coherently coupled nonlinear Schrödinger models with variable nonlinearities

We investigate non-autonomous solitons in a general coherently coupled nonlinear Schrödinger (CCNLS) system with temporally modulated nonlinearities and with an external harmonic oscillator potential. This general CCNLS system encompasses three distinct types of CCNLS equations that describe the dynamics of beam propagation in an inhomogeneous Kerr-like nonlinear optical medium for different choices of nonlinear polarizations owing to the anisotropy of the medium. We identify a generalized similarity transformation to relate the considered model into the standard integrable homogeneous coupled nonlinear evolution equations with constant nonlinearities, accompanied by a constraint relation expressed in the form of the Riccati equation. With the help of a non-standard Hirota's bilinearization method and exact soliton solutions, we explore the impact of varying nonlinearities and refractive index in the propagation and collisions analytically by reverse engineering. Interestingly, we show the emergence of several modulated solitonic phenomena such as periodic oscillation, amplification, compression, tunneling/cross-over, excitons, as well as their combined effect in the single-soliton propagation and two-soliton collisions with appropriate forms of nonlinearity. Notably, we identify a tool to transform the nature of soliton collisions with certain type of inhomogeneous nonlinearities. The results could be of significant interest to the studies on management of nonlinear waves in the contexts like nonlinear optics and can also be extended to Bose-Einstein condensates and super-fluids.

Superposed nonlinear waves in coherently coupled Bose-Einstein condensates

We study the dynamics of superposed nonlinear waves in coherently coupled Gross-Pitaevskii (CCGP) equations with constant (autonomous system) and time varying (non-autonomous system) nonlinearity co-efficients. By employing a linear transformation, the autonomous CCGP system is converted into two separate scalar nonlinear Schrödinger equations and we show that linear superposition of different nonlinear wave solutions of these scalar equations results into several kinds of nonlinear coherent structures namely, coexisting rogue wave-Ma breather, Akhmediev-Ma breathers, collision and bound states of Ma breathers and solitons. Next, the non-autonomous CCGP system is converted into an autonomous CCGP system with a similarity transformation. We show an interesting possibility of soliton compression and appearance of creeping solitons for kink-like and periodically modulated nonlinearity coefficient.

Non-autonomous bright matter wave solitons in spinor Bose-Einstein condensates

We investigate the dynamics of bright matter wave solitons in spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensates with time modulated nonlinearities. We obtain soliton solutions of an integrable autonomous three-coupled Gross-Pitaevskii (3-GP) equations using Hirota's method involving a non-standard bilinearization. The similarity transformations are developed to construct the soliton solutions of non-autonomous 3-GP system. The non-autonomous solitons admit different density profiles. An interesting phenomenon of soliton compression is identified for kink-like nonlinearity coefficient with Hermite-Gaussian-like potential strength. Our study shows that these non-autonomous solitons undergo non-trivial collisions involving condensate switching.

Non-autonomous bright-dark solitons and Rabi oscillations in multi-component Bose-Einstein condensates

We study the dynamics of non-autonomous bright-dark matter-wave solitons in two- and three- component Bose-Einstein condensates. Our setting includes a time-dependent parabolic potential and scattering length, as well as Rabi coupling of the separate hyperfine states. By means of a similarity transformation, we transform the non-autonomous coupled Gross-Pitaevskii equations into the completely integrable Manakov model with defocusing nonlinearity, and construct the explicit form of the non-autonomous soliton solutions. The propagation characteristics for the one-soliton state, and collision scenarios for multiple soliton states are discussed in detail for two types of time-dependent nonlinearities: a kink-like one and a periodically modulated one, with appropriate time-dependence of the trapping potential. We find that in the two-component condensates the nature of soliton propagation is determined predominantly by the nature of the nonlinearity, as well as the temporal modulation of the harmonic potential; switching in this setting is essentially due to Rabi coupling. We also perform direct numerical simulation of the non-autonomous two-component coupled Gross-Pitaevskii equations to corroborate our analytical predictions. More interestingly, in the case of the three-component condensates, we find that the solitons can lead to collision-induced energy switching (energy-sharing collision), that can be profitably used to control Rabi switching or vice-versa. An interesting possibility of reversal of the nature of the constituent soliton, i.e., bright (dark) into dark (bright) due to Rabi coupling is demonstrated in the three-component setting.
