Transonic Shocks for 2-D Steady Exothermically Reacting Euler Flows in a Finite Nozzle

This paper concerns the existence of transonic shocks for steady exothermically reacting Euler flows in an almost flat nozzle with the small rate of the exothermic reaction. One of the key points is to quantitatively determine the position of the shock front in the nozzle. We focus on the contributions of the perturbation of the flat nozzle and the exothermic reaction in determining the position of the shock front by comparing the orders of $σ$ and $κ$, where $σ$ represents the scale of the perturbation of the flat nozzle and $κ$ the rate of the exothermic reaction. To this end, a free boundary problem for the linearized reacting Euler system is proposed to catch an approximating position of the shock front as well as the associated approximating shock solution, with which the existence of a shock solution close to it can be established via a nonlinear iteration scheme. One of the key steps is solving the nonlinear equation derived from the solvability condition for the elliptic sub-problem in the domain of the subsonic flow behind the shock front, which determines the free boundary of the proposed problem. Four typical cases are analyzed which describe possible interactions between the geometry of the nozzle boundary and the exothermic reaction. The results also manifest that exothermic reaction has a stabilization effect on transonic shocks in the nozzles.

Branes and Categorifying Integrable Lattice Models

We elucidate how integrable lattice models described by Costello's 4d Chern-Simons theory can be realized via a stack of D4-branes ending on an NS5-brane in type IIA string theory, with D0-branes on the D4-brane worldvolume sourcing a meromorphic RR 1-form, and fundamental strings forming the lattice. This provides us with a nonperturbative integration cycle for the 4d Chern-Simons theory, and by applying T- and S-duality, we show how the R-matrix, the Yang-Baxter equation and the Yangian can be categorified, that is, obtained via the Hilbert space of a 6d gauge theory.

High Mach number limit of one-dimensional piston problem for non-isentropic compressible Euler equations: Polytropic gas

We study high Mach number limit of the one dimensional piston problem for the full compressible Euler equations of polytropic gas, for both cases that the piston rushes into or recedes from the uniform still gas, at a constant speed. There are two different situations, and one needs to consider measure solutions of the Euler equations to deal with concentration of mass on the piston, or formation of vacuum. We formulate the piston problem in the framework of Radon measure solutions, and show its consistency by proving that the integral weak solutions of the piston problems converge weakly in the sense of measures to (singular) measure solutions of the limiting problems, as the Mach number of the piston increases to infinity.

Ω-deformation of B-twisted gauge theories and the 3d-3d correspondence

We study Ω-deformation of B-twisted gauge theories in two dimensions. As an application, we construct an Ω-deformed, topologically twisted five-dimensional maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory on the product of a Riemann surface $Σ$ and a three-manifold $M$, and show that when $Σ$ is a disk, this theory is equivalent to analytically continued Chern-Simons theory on $M$. Based on these results, we establish a correspondence between three-dimensional $\mathcal{N} = 2$ superconformal theories and analytically continued Chern-Simons theory. Furthermore, we argue that there is a mirror symmetry between Ω-deformed two-dimensional theories.
