Combined analysis of the singly-Cabbibo-suppressed decays of $D^{0} \to VP$

We investigate six singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay channels in $D^0\to VP$ ( $V$ and $P$ stand for the ground state vector and pseudoscalar mesons, respectively), i.e. $D^{0}\to ρ^{+}π^{-}$, $ρ^{-}π^{+}$, $K^{*+}K^{-}$, $K^{*-}K^{+}$, $K^{*0}\bar{K}^{0}$, and $\bar{K}^{*0}K^{0}$. These decay channels share the similar transition mechanisms involving only the direct emission (DE) and internal conversion (IC) processes. We show that a combined analysis of these channels can explicitly highlight the role played by the IC processes which contribute to the amplitudes at the same order of magnitude as the DE processes.

Asymmetric Nuclear Matter and Neutron Star Properties in Relativistic ab initio Theory in the Full Dirac Space

The long-standing controversy about the isospin dependence of the effective Dirac mass in ab initio calculations of asymmetric nuclear matter is clarified by solving the relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock equations in the full Dirac space. The symmetry energy and its slope parameter at the saturation density are $E_{\text{sym}}(ρ_0)=33.1$ MeV and $L=65.2$ MeV, in agreement with empirical and experimental values. Further applications predict the neutron star radius $R_{1.4M_\odot}\approx 12$ km and the maximum mass of a neutron star $M_{\text{max}}\leq 2.4M_\odot$.

Conceptual design of the Spin Physics Detector

The Spin Physics Detector, a universal facility for studying the nucleon spin structure and other spin-related phenomena with polarized proton and deuteron beams, is proposed to be placed in one of the two interaction points of the NICA collider that is under construction at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna, Russia). At the heart of the project there is huge experience with polarized beams at JINR. The main objective of the proposed experiment is the comprehensive study of the unpolarized and polarized gluon content of the nucleon. Spin measurements at the Spin Physics Detector at the NICA collider have bright perspectives to make a unique contribution and challenge our understanding of the spin structure of the nucleon. In this document the Conceptual Design of the Spin Physics Detector is presented.

Hadronic molecules

A large number of experimental discoveries especially in the heavy quarkonium sector that did not at all fit to the expectations of the until then very successful quark model led to a renaissance of hadron spectroscopy. Among various explanations of the internal structure of these excitations, hadronic molecules, being analogues of light nuclei, play a unique role since for those predictions can be made with controlled uncertainty. We review experimental evidences of various candidates of hadronic molecules, and methods of identifying such structures. Nonrelativistic effective field theories are the suitable framework for studying hadronic molecules, and are discussed in both the continuum and finite volumes. Also pertinent lattice QCD results are presented. Further, we discuss the production mechanisms and decays of hadronic molecules, and comment on the reliability of certain assertions often made in the literature.

Nuclear mass table in deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum: I. even-even nuclei

Ground-state properties of even-even nuclei with $8\le Z\le120$ from the proton drip line to the neutron drip line have been investigated using the deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum (DRHBc) with the density functional PC-PK1. With the effects of deformation and continuum included simultaneously, 2583 even-even nuclei are predicted to be bound. The calculated binding energies, two-nucleon separation energies, root-mean-square (rms) radii of neutron, proton, matter, and charge distributions, quadrupole deformations, and neutron and proton Fermi surfaces are tabulated and compared with available experimental data. The rms deviation from the 637 mass data is 1.518 MeV, providing one of the best microscopic descriptions for nuclear masses. The drip lines obtained from DRHBc calculations are compared with other calculations, including the spherical relativistic continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov (RCHB) and triaxial relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov (TRHB) calculations with PC-PK1. The deformation and continuum effects on the limits of the nuclear landscape are discussed. Possible peninsulas consisting of bound nuclei beyond the two-neutron drip line are predicted. The systematics of the two-nucleon separation energies, two-nucleon gaps, rms radii, quadrupole deformations, potential energy curves, neutron densities, neutron mean-field potentials, and pairing energies in the DRHBc calculations are also discussed. In addition, the $α$ decay energies extracted are in good agreement with available data.

Towards the establishment of the light $J^{P(C)}=1^{-(+)}$ hybrid nonet

The observation of the light hybrid candidate $η_1(1855)$ by the BESIII Collaboration brings great opportunities for advancing our knowledges about exotic hadrons in the light flavor sector. We show that this observation provides a crucial clue for establishing the $J^{P(C)}=1^{-(+)}$ hybrid nonet. Based on the flux tube model picture, the production and decay mechanisms for the $J^{P(C)}=1^{-(+)}$ hybrid nonet in the $J/ψ$ radiative decays into two pseudoscalar mesons are investigated. In the $I=0$ sector, we find that the SU(3) flavor octet and singlet mixing is non-negligible and apparently deviates from the flavor ideal mixing. Since only signals for one isoscalar $η_1(1855)$ are observed in the $ηη'$ channel, we investigate two schemes of the nonet structure in which $η_1(1855)$ can be either the higher or lower mass state that strongly couples to $ηη'$. Possible channels for detecting the multiplets are suggested. In particular, a combined analysis of the hybrid production in $J/ψ\to VH$, where $V$ and $H$ stand for the light vector mesons and $1^{-(+)}$ hybrid states, may provide further evidence for this nonet structure and finally establish these mysterious exotic species in experiment.

Higher mass spectra of the fully-charmed and fully-bottom tetraquarks

In this work, we calculate the higher mass spectra for the $2S$- and $1D$-wave fully-charmed and fully-bottom tetraquark states in a nonrelativistic potential quark model. The $2S$-wave fully-charmed/bottom tetraquark states lie in the mass range of $\sim (6.9,7.1)$/$(19.7,19.9)$ GeV, apart for the highest $0^{++}$ state $T_{(cc\bar{c}\bar{c})0^{++}}(7185)$/ $T_{(bb\bar{b}\bar{b})0^{++}}(19976)$. Most of the $2S$-wave states highly overlap with the high-lying $1P$-wave states. The masses for the $1D$-wave fully-charmed/bottom tetraquarks are predicted to be in the range of $\sim (6.7,7.2)/(19.5,20.0)$ GeV. The mass range for the $D$-wave tetraquark states cover most of the mass range of the $P$-wave states and the whole mass range of the $2S$-wave states. The narrow structure $X(6900)$ recently observed at LHCb in the di-$J/ψ$ invariant mass spectrum may be caused by the $1P$-, or $2S$-, or $1D$-wave $T_{cc\bar{c}\bar{c}}$ states. The vague structure $X(7200)$ may be caused by the highest $2S$-wave state $T_{(cc\bar{c}\bar{c})0^{++}}(7185)$, two low-lying $3S$-wave states $T_{(cc\bar{c}\bar{c})0^{++}}(7240)$ and $T_{(cc\bar{c}\bar{c})2^{++}}(7248)$, and/or the high-lying $1D$-wave states with masses around 7.2 GeV and $J^{PC}=0^{++},1^{++},2^{++},3^{++}$, or $4^{++}$. While it is apparent that the potential quark model calculations predict more states than the structures observed in the di-$J/ψ$ invariant mass spectrum, our calculations will help further understanding of the properties of these fully-heavy tetraquark states in their strong and magnetic interactions with open channels based on explicit quark model wave functions.

Study of heavy quark conserving weak decays in the quark model

Within the framework of a constituent quark model, we investigate the heavy quark conserving weak decays of $Ξ_c$ and $Ξ_b$. This process involves elementary transitions of $us\to du$ or $s\to ud \bar u$ with the heavy quark as a spectator, while for the charmed baryon in the initial state it can also occur via $cs\to dc$ to conserve the heavy quark flavor in the weak decays. It shows that the heavy quark symmetry (HQS) plays an essential role in the processes where the heavy quark acts as a spectator. For the $Ξ_c$ decays, the dominance of the pole terms in the parity-conserving transitions is evident. This can naturally explain the sizeable branching ratio for $Ξ_c^0\toΛ_cπ^-$ as recently reported by LHCb. The same mechanism predicts a large branching ratio for $Ξ_c^+\toΛ_cπ^0$. In contrast, the decays of $Ξ_b$ will only go through the parity-violating processes because of the HQS. In addition, the branching ratios of the $Ξ_c^+\to Λ_c π^0$ and $Ξ_b^0\to Λ_b π^0$ processes are also predicted for the further experimental measurement.

All-heavy tetraquarks

In this work we study the mass spectra of the fully-heavy tetraquark systems, i.e. $cc\bar{c}\bar{c}$, $bb\bar{b}\bar{b}$, $bb\bar{c}\bar{c}/cc\bar{b}\bar{b}$, $bc\bar{c}\bar{c}/cc\bar{b}\bar{c}$, $bc\bar{b}\bar{b}/bb\bar{b}\bar{c}$, and $bc\bar{b}\bar{c}$, within a potential model by including the linear confining potential, Coulomb potential, and spin-spin interactions. It shows that the linear confining potential has important contributions to the masses and is crucial for our understanding of the mass spectra of the fully-heavy tetraquark systems. For the fully-heavy tetraquarks $Q_1Q_2\bar{Q}_3\bar{Q}_4$ our explicit calculations suggest that no bound states can be formed below the thresholds of any meson pairs $(Q_1\bar{Q}_3)$-$(Q_2\bar{Q}_4)$ or $(Q_1\bar{Q}_4)$-$(Q_2\bar{Q}_3)$. Thus, we do not expect narrow fully-heavy tetraquark states to be existing in experiments.

Hyperon Weak Radiative Decay

We revisit the hyperon weak radiative decays in the framework of the non-relativistic constituent quark model. This study confirms the nonlocal feature of the hyperon weak radiative transition operators which are dominated by the pole terms, and an overall self-consistent description of the available experimental data for the Cabibbo-favored hyperon weak radiative decays is achieved. It provides a natural mechanism for evading the Hara theorem, where sizeable parity-violating contributions can come from the intermediate orbital excitations. Cancellations between pole terms also explain significant SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking manifested by the experimental data. We also discuss several interesting selection rules arising from either the electromagnetic or the weak interaction vertices. These features suggest nontrivial relations among different hyperon decays.

Monitoring method for neutron flux for a spallation target in an accelerator driven sub-critical system

In this paper, we study a monitoring method for neutron flux for the spallation target used in an accelerator driven sub-critical (ADS) system, where a spallation target located vertically at the centre of a sub-critical core is bombarded vertically by high-energy protons from an accelerator. First, by considering the characteristics in the spatial variation of neutron flux from the spallation target, we propose a multi-point measurement technique, i.e. the spallation neutron flux should be measured at multiple vertical locations. To explain why the flux should be measured at multiple locations, we have studied neutron production from a tungsten target bombarded by a 250 MeV-proton beam with Geant4-based Monte Carlo simulations. The simulation results indicate that the neutron flux at the central location is up to three orders of magnitude higher than the flux at lower locations. Secondly, we have developed an effective technique in order to measure the spallation neutron flux with a fission chamber (FC), by establishing the relation between the fission rate measured by FC and the spallation neutron flux. Since this relation is linear for a FC, a constant calibration factor is used to derive the neutron flux from the measured fission rate. This calibration factor can be extracted from the energy spectra of spallation neutrons. Finally, we have evaluated the proposed calibration method for a FC in the environment of an ADS system. The results indicate that the proposed method functions very well.

Open charm contributions to the E1 transitions of $ψ(3686)$ and $ψ(3770)\to γχ_{cJ}$

The E1 transitions of $ψ(3686)$ and $ψ(3770)\to γχ_{cJ}$ are investigated in a non-relativistic effective field theory (NREFT) where the open charm effects are included systematically as the leading corrections. It also allows a self-consistent inclusion of the $S$-$D$ mixing in the same framework. We are able to show that the open charm contributions are essential for understanding the significant discrepancies between the non-relativistic leading order calculations and the experimental data.

Sensing solvents with ultra-sensitive porous poly(ionic liquid) actuators

We introduced a new concept for fabricating solvent stimulus polymer actuators with unprecedented sensitivity and accuracy. This was accomplished by integrating porous architectures and electrostatic complexation gradients in a poly(ionic liquid) membrane that bears ionic liquid species for solvent sorption. In contact with 1.5 mol% of acetone molecules in water, the actuator membrane (1 mm x 20 mm x 30 um) bent into a closed loop. While the interaction between solvents and the polymer drives the actuation, the continuous gradient in complexation degree combined with the porous architecture optimizes the actuation, giving it a high sensitivity and even the ability to discriminate butanol solvent isomers. The membrane is also capable of cooperative actuation. The design concept is easy to implement and applicable to other polyelectrolyte systems, which substantially underpins their potentials in smart and sensitive signaling microrobotics/devices.

Understanding the newly observed heavy pentaquark candidates

We find that several thresholds can contribute to the enhancements of the newly observed heavy pentaquark candidates $P_c^+(4380)$ and $P_c^+(4450)$ via the anomalous triangle singularity (ATS) transitions in the specific kinematics of $Λ_b\to J/ψK^- p$. Apart from the observed two peaks we find that another peaks around 4.5 GeV can also be produced by the ATS. We also show that the $Σ_c^{(*)}$ can be produced at leading order in $Λ_b$ decay. This process is different from the triangle diagram and its threshold enhancement only appears as CUSP effects if there is no pole structure or the ATS involved. The threshold interaction associated with the presence of the ATS turns out to be a general phenomenon and plays a crucial role in the understanding of candidates for exotic states.

Central depressions in the charge density profiles of the nuclei around $^{46}$Ar

The occurrence of the proton bubble-like structure has been studied within the relativistic Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (RHFB) and relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov (RHB) theories by exploring the bulk properties, the charge density profiles and single proton spectra of argon isotopes and $N = 28$ isotones. It is found that the RHFB calculations with PKA1 effective interaction, which can properly reproduce the charge radii of argon isotopes and the $Z=16$ proton shell nearby, do not support the occurrence of the proton bubble-like structure in argon isotopes due to the prediction of deeper bound proton orbit $\pi2s_{1/2}$ than $\pi1d_{3/2}$. For $N = 28$ isotones, $^{42}$Si and $^{40}$Mg are predicted by both RHFB and RHB models to have the proton bubble-like structure, owing to the large gap between the proton $\pi2s_{1/2}$ and $\pi1d_{5/2}$ orbits, namely the $Z=14$ proton shell. Therefore, $^{42}$Si is proposed as the potential candidate of proton bubble nucleus, which has longer life-time than $^{40}$Mg.

Could the near-threshold $XYZ$ states be simply kinematic effects?

We demonstrate that the spectacular structures discovered recently in various experiments and named as $X$, $Y$ and $Z$ states cannot be purely kinematic effects. Their existence necessarily calls for nearby poles in the $S$--matrix and they therefore qualify as states. We propose a way to distinguishing kinematic cusp effects from genuine $S$--matrix poles: the kinematic threshold cusp cannot produce a narrow peak in the invariant mass distribution in the elastic channel in contrast with a genuine $S$--matrix pole.

Decipher the short-distance component of $X(3872)$ in $B_c$ decays

A foremost task in understanding the nature of the $X(3872)$ involves the discrimination of the two-quark and multiquark configurations. In this work, we propose a method to probe the short-distance component of the $X(3872)$ by measuring the ratio between the $B_c$ semileptonic and nonleptonic decays into the $X(3872)$. We demonstrate that if the $X(3872)$ production mechanism is through the $\bar cc$ component, the ratios would be universal and could be reliably predicted in theory. Measurements of these ratios at LHC and the next-generation electron-positron colliders are capable of validating/invalidating this production mechanism and providing deeper insights into the nature of the $X(3872)$.

Employing spin symmetry to disentangle different models for the XYZ states

In order to test different models proposed for some states discovered recently in the charmonium mass range that do not fit into the pattern predicted by the conventional quark model, we derive predictions for the spectrum within the hadro-charmonium picture, the tetraquark picture as well as the hadronic molecular approach. We exploit heavy quark spin symmetry for the hadro-charmonium and hadronic molecule scenarios. The patterns that emerge from the different models turn out to be quite distinct. For example, only within the hadro-charmonium picture a pseudoscalar state emerges that is lighter than the Y(4260). Possible discovery channels of these additional states are discussed.

How to identify the structure of near-threshold states from the line shape

We revisit the compositeness theorem proposed by Weinberg in an effective field theory (EFT) and explore criteria which are sensitive to the structure of $S$-wave threshold states. On a general basis, we show that the wave function renormalization constant $Z$, which is the probability of finding an elementary component in the wave function of a threshold state, can be explicitly introduced in the description of the threshold state. As an application of this EFT method, we describe the near-threshold line shape of the $D^{\ast 0}\bar D^0$ invariant mass spectrum in $B\rightarrow D^{\ast 0}\bar D^0 K$ and determine a nonvanishing value of $Z$. It suggests that the $X(3872)$ as a candidate of the $D^{\ast 0}\bar D^0$ molecule may still contain a small $c\bar{c}$ core. This elementary component, on the one hand, explains its production in the $B$ meson decay via a short-distance mechanism, and on the other hand, is correlated with the $D^{\ast 0}\bar D^0$ threshold enhancement observed in the $D^{\ast 0}\bar D^0$ invariant mass distributions. Meanwhile, we also show that if $Z$ is non-zero, the near-threshold enhancement of the $D^{\ast 0}\bar D^0$ mass spectrum in the $B$ decay will be driven by the short-distance production mechanism. This conclusion is still true even if the long-distance production is enhanced by some unexpected mechanism.

Photoproduction of hidden charm pentaquark states $P_c^+(4380)$ and $P_c^+(4450)$

We propose to study the pentaquark candidates of $P_c^+(4380)$ and $P_c^+(4450)$ in $J/ψ$ photoproduction and look for further experimental evidence for their nature. Since the photoproduction process does not satisfy the so-called "anomalous triangle singularity" condition their presence in $J/ψ$ photoproduction would conclude that they should be genuine states and provide further evidence for their existence.

Study of the rare decay $J/ψ\rightarrow e^+e^- ϕ$

We study the decay process of $J/ψ\rightarrow e^+e^- ϕ$ where the relatively clean electromagnetic (EM) transitions appear at leading order at tree level while the hadronic contributions only emerge via hadronic loop transitions. We include the low-lying scalar $f_0(980)$ and pseudoscalar $η/η'$ as the dominant contributions in the evaluation of the hadronic loop contributions. It is found that the hadronic effects are negligible comparing with the EM contributions. The decay width of $J/ψ\rightarrow e^+e^- ϕ$ is determined to be about $2.12\times 10^{-6}$ keV if there is no any other leading mechanism contributing, and this result will be tested by the BESIII experiment with a large data sample of $J/ψ$.

The lightest neutral hypernuclei with strangeness -1 and -2

Our current knowledge of the baryon--baryon interaction suggests that the dineutron $(n,n)$ and its strange analogue $(n,Λ)$ are unstable. In contrast, the situation is more favorable for the strange three-body system $(n,n,Λ)$, and even better for the four-body system $T\equiv (n,n,Λ,Λ)$ with strangeness $-2$, which is likely to be stable under spontaneous dissociation. The recent models of the hyperon-nucleon and hyperon-hyperon interactions suggest that the stability of the $(n,n,Λ)$ and $T$ is possible within the uncertainties of our knowledge of the baryon-baryon interactions. This new nucleus $T$ could be produced and identified in central deuteron--deuteron collisions via reaction $d+d\to T+K^++K^+$, and the tetrabaryon $T$ could play an important role in catalyzing the formation of a strange core in neutron stars.

The nature of near-threshold XYZ states

We demonstrate that the recently observed $X$, $Y$, $Z$ states cannot be purely from kinematic effect. Especially the narrow near-threshold structures in elastic channels call for nearby poles of the $S$-matrix which are qualified as states. We propose a way to distinguish cusp effects from genuine states and demonstrate that (not all of) the recently observed $X$, $Y$, $Z$ states cannot be purely from kinematic effects. Especially, we show that the narrow near-threshold structures in elastic channels call for nearby poles of the $S$-matrix, since the normal kinematic cusp effect cannot produce that narrow structures in the elastic channels in contrast to genuine $S$-matrix poles. In addition, it is also discussed how spectra can be used to distinguish different scenarios proposed for the structure of those poles, such as hadro-quarkonia, tetraquarks and hadronic molecules. The basic tool employed is heavy quark spin symmetry.

Trapped Bose-Einstein condensates in synthetic magnetic field

Rotating properties of Bose-Einstein condensates in synthetic magnetic field are studied by numerically solving the Gross-Pitaevskii equation and compared with condensates confined in the rotating trap. It seems that it is more difficult to add large angular momentum to condensates spined up by the synthetic magnetic field than by the rotating trap. However, strengthening the repulsive interaction between atoms is an effective and realizable route to overcome this problem and can at least generate vortex-lattice-like structures. In addition, the validity of the Feynman rule for condensates in synthetic magnetic field is verified.

$Y(4260)$ as the first $S$-wave open charm vector molecular state?

Since its first observation in 2005, the vector charmonium $Y(4260)$ has turned out to be one of the prime candidates for an exotic state in the charmonium spectrum. It was recently proposed that the $Y(4260)$ should have a prominent $D_1\bar{D}+c.c.$ molecular component that is strongly correlated with the production of the charged $Z_c(3900)$. In this paper we demonstrate that the nontrivial cross section line shapes of $e^+e^-\to J/ψππ$ and $h_cππ$ can be naturally explained by the molecular scenario. As a consequence we find a significantly smaller mass for the $Y(4260)$ than previous studied. In the $e^+e^-\to \bar D D^*π+c.c.$ process, with the inclusion of an additional $S$-wave $\bar D^*π$ contribution constrained from data on the $D\bar D^*$ invariant mass distribution, we obtain a good agreement with the data of the angular distributions. We also predict an unusual line shape of $Y(4260)$ in this channel that may serve as a smoking gun for a predominantly molecular nature of $Y(4260)$. Improved measurements of these observables are therefore crucial for a better understanding of the structure of this famous resonance.

Possibility of a new neutral hypernucleus (n,n,Lambda,Lambda)

The status of the light hypernuclei is reviewed, and discussed with models based either on the Nijmegen-RIKEN baryon--baryon interaction or on recent studies using chiral effective field theory. The latter suggests a significantly shorter range for the $ΛΛ$ interaction, and this favours the formation of a Borromean state made of two neutrons and two hyperons. Various corrections are discussed, in particular the coupling of $NΛ$ to $NΣ$, or of $ΛΛ$ to $NΞ$, and the role of tensor forces. The new nucleus $(n,n,Λ,Λ)$ could be produced in various reactions, in particular deuteron--deuteron scattering with the simultaneous production of two charged kaons, for which an estimate of the cross section is provided.

Proton radioactivity described by covariant density functional theory with Similarity Renormalization Group method

Half-life of proton radioactivity of spherical proton emitters is studied within the scheme of covariant density functional (CDF) theory, and for the first time the potential barrier that prevents the emitted proton is extracted with the similarity renormalization group (SRG) method, in which the spin-orbit potential along with the others that turn out to be non-negligible can be derived automatically. The spectroscopic factor that is significant is also extracted from the CDF calculations. The estimated half-lives are found in good agreement with the experimental values, which not only confirms the validity of the CDF theory in describing the proton-rich nuclei, but also indicates the prediction power of present approach to calculate the half-lives and in turn to extract the structural information of proton emitters.

Confirming the molecular nature of the $Z_b(10610)$ and the $Z_b(10650)$

The decays of the $Z_b(10610)$ and the $Z_b(10650)$ to $Υ(nS)π$, $h_b(mP)π$ and $χ_{bJ}(mP)γ$ ($n=1,2,3$, $m=1,2$ and $J=0,1,2$) are investigated within a nonrelativistic effective field theory. It is argued that, while the decays to $Υ(nS) π$ suffer from potentially large higher order corrections, the $P$-wave transitions of the $Z_b$ states offer the best possibility to confirm the nature of the $Z_b$ states as molecular states and to further study their properties. We give nontrivial and parameter-free predictions for the ratios of various partial widths for final states with $h_b(mP)π$ and $χ_{bJ}(mP)γ$. In addition, the branching fractions for the neutral $Z_b$-states to $χ_{bJ}γ$ are predicted to be of order $10^{-4}$--$10^{-3}$. This provides a fine test of the molecular nature in future high-luminosity experiments.

Decoding the riddle of Y(4260) and $Z_c(3900)$

The observation of $Z_c(3900)$ by the BESIII collaboration in the invariant mass spectrum of $J/ψπ^\pm$ in $e^+e^-\to J/ψπ^+π^-$ at the center of mass 4.260 GeV suggests the existence of a charged $\bar D D^*+D\bar D^*$ molecular state with $I(J^P)=1(1^+)$, which could be an isovector brother of the famous X(3872) and an analogue of $Z_b(10610)$ claimed by the Belle Collaboration. We demonstrate that this observation provides strong evidence that the mysterious Y(4260) is a $\bar{D}D_1(2420) +D\bar{D}_1(2420)$ molecular state. Especially, we show that the decay of this molecule naturally populates low momentum $\bar DD^*$ pairs and leads unavoidably to a cusp at the $\bar DD^*$ threshold. We discuss the signatures that distinguish such a $\bar DD^*$ cusp from the presence of a true resonance.

Further understanding of the non-$D\bar D$ decays of $ψ(3770)$

We provide details of the study of $ψ(3770)$ non-$D\bar D$ decays into $VP$, where $V$ and $P$ denote light vector meson and pseudoscalar meson, respectively. We find that the electromagnetic (EM) interaction plays little role in these processes, while the strong interaction dominates. The strong interaction can be separated into two parts, i.e. the short-distance part probing the wave function at origin and the long-distance part reflecting the soft gluon exchanged dynamics. The long-distance part is thus described by the intermediate charmed meson loops. We show that the transition of $ψ(3770)\to VP$ can be related to $ψ(3686)\to VP$ such that the parameters in our model can be constrained by comparing the different parts in $ψ(3770)\to VP$ to those in $ψ(3686)\to VP$. Our quantitative results confirm the findings of [Zhang {\it et al.}, Phys. Rev. Lett. 102, 172001 (2009)] that the OZI-rule-evading long-distance strong interaction via the IML plays an important role in $ψ(3770)$ decays, and could be a key towards a full understanding of the mysterious $ψ(3770)$ non-$D\bar{D}$ decay mechanism.

Hunting for a scalar glueball in exclusive B decays

Using flavor SU(3) symmetry for the light quarks validated by the available experimental data, we propose an intuitive way to hunt for a scalar glueball in B decays. In the presence of mixing between the glueball and ordinary scalar mesons, we explore the extraction of the mixing parameters. In particular, we discuss the implication from the recently available experimental data and show the sensitivities of B decays as a probe to the scalar structures. The future Super KEKB factory would allow access to establishing the mixing pattern among the scalars, and possibly allow one to disentangle the long-standing puzzle concerning the existence and mixings of the scalar glueball predicted by QCD.

Low energy reactions $K^-p\rightarrowΣ^0π^0$, $Λπ^0$, $\bar{K}^0n$ and the strangeness $S=-1$ hyperons

A combined study of the reactions $K^-p\rightarrow Σ^0π^0$, $Λπ^0$ and $\bar{K}^0n$ at low energies is carried out with a chiral quark-model approach. Good descriptions of the experimental observations are obtained. The roles of the low-lying strangeness $S=-1$ hyperon resonances in these processes are carefully analyzed. We find that: (i) In the $K^-p\rightarrow Σ^0π^0$ process, both $Λ(1405)S_{01}$ and $Λ(1520)D_{03}$ play dominant roles. Significant contributions of $Λ(1670)S_{01}$ and $Λ(1690)D_{03}$ could be seen around their threshold; (ii) In the $K^-p\rightarrow Λπ^0$ process, some obvious evidence of $Σ(1775)D_{15}$ and $Σ(1750)S_{11}$ could be found. Some hints of $Σ(1620)S_{11}$ might exist in the reaction as well. $Σ(1750)S_{11}$ and $Σ(1620)S_{11}$ should correspond to the representations $[70,^48]S_{11}$ and $[70,^28]S_{11}$, respectively; (iii) In the $K^-p\rightarrow \bar{K}^0n$ process, the dominant resonances are $Λ(1405)$ and $Λ(1520)$. Some evidence of $Λ(1690)D_{03}$, $Σ(1670)D_{13}$ and $Σ(1775)D_{15}$ could be seen as well. A weak coupling of $Λ(1670)S_{01}$ to $\bar{K}N$ should be needed in the reactions $K^-p\rightarrow Σ^0π^0$ and $\bar{K}^0n$. Furthermore, by analyzing these reactions, we also find that the $u$-, t-channel backgrounds and s-channel Born term play crucial roles in the reactions.

Meson loop singularity, exotic states' productions and decays near threshold

We investigate in detail the "triangle singularity" regions of meson loops where the corresponding intermediate mesons are nearly-on-shell and have relatively small momenta, and the two heavy mesons strongly interact with each other in an $S$ wave. This $S$-wave interaction will make such kind of meson loops always enhanced and can explain experimental observations of threshold enhancements. We show that the production of the $Y(4260)$ and the recently observed $Z_c(3900)$ can be related to each other by this mechanism which will allow for a possible understanding of the nature of these threshold enhancements.

Probing the nature of $Y(4260)$ and $Z_c(3900)$ in the isospin violating process $Y(4260) \to J/ψηπ^0$

The isospin violation process $Y(4260) \to J/ψηπ^{0}$ is studied assuming that $Y(4260)$ is a $D_{1} \bar{D}+c.c.$ hadronic molecule. In association with the production of the $Z_c(3900)$, which is treated as a $D \bar{D}^{*}+c.c.$ hadronic molecule, this process can help us distinguish their molecular natures from other scenarios, since the incomplete cancellation between the charged and neutral--meson loops, which are prominent in the molecular picture only, produces a peak in the $e^+e^-\to Y(4260)\to J/ψηπ^0$ cross section at the $D_{1} \bar{D}+c.c.$ threshold and a very prominent peak in the $J/ψη$ invariant mass spectrum in between the $D \bar{D}^{*}+c.c.$ thresholds; the latter being much narrower than the corresponding one in the isospin conserving channel, i.e. $J/ψπ^+ π^{-}$. The partial width of $Y(4260)\to J/ψηπ^0$ is about $4 \times 10^{-4}$ of that of $Y(4260)\to J/ψπ^+π^-$. The cross section of $e^+e^-\to Y(4260)\to J/ψηπ^0$ at the $D_{1} \bar{D}+c.c.$ threshold is about $0.05 \ \mathrm{pb}$ which is much larger than that produced by the nearby resonances. These features are the direct consequences of the assumed nature of these two states which might be accessible at the high-statistics experiments such as BESIII and LHCb.

Production of the X(3872) in charmonia radiative decays

We discuss the possibilities of producing the X(3872), which is assumed to be a D \bar D^* bound state, in radiative decays of charmonia. We argue that the ideal energy regions to observe the X(3872) associated with a photon in e^+e^- annihilations are around the Y(4260) mass and around 4.45 GeV, due to the presence of the S-wave D \bar D_1(2420) and D^* \bar D_1(2420) threshold, respectively. Especially, if the Y(4260) is dominantly a D \bar D_1 molecule and the X(3872) a D \bar D^* molecule, the radiative transition strength will be quite large.

Systematic study of the singularity mechanism in heavy quarkonium decays

We investigate in detail the role of heavy meson loops in the transition from $J^{PC}=1^{--}$ sources to candidates for QCD "exotics", such as $Z_c(3900)$, $Z_b(10610)$ and $Z_b'(10650)$. We demonstrate that, if a vector state strongly couples to a heavy meson pair in an $S$--wave and this system decays to another heavy meson pair (e.g. via pion emission), again in an $S$-wave, the pertinent diagrams get enhanced significantly, if the intermediate states are (near) on--shell and have small relative momenta. In a limited kinematic range this mechanism generates "singularity regions" that lead to the creation of a large number of low energy heavy meson pairs, providing an ideal environment for the formation of hadron-hadron bound states or resonances. For instance, we predict that the signals for $Z_b$ and $Z_b'$ should be a lot stronger in $Υ(6S)$ decays due to this mechanism, if these states are indeed hadron-hadron resonances. The findings of this work should be valuable for deepening our understanding of the nature of the mentioned states.

Understanding the property of $η(1405/1475)$ in the $J/ψ$ radiative decay

In this work we make a systematic analysis of the correlated processes $J/ψ\to γη(1440)/f_1(1420)$ with $η(1440)/f_1(1420)\to K\bar{K}π$, $ηππ$ and $3π$, where the role played by the so-called "triangle singularity mechanism" (TSM) is clarified. Our results agree well with the experimental data and suggest a small fraction of $f_1(1420)$ contributions in these processes. This study confirms our conclusion in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 108, 081803 (2012)] that the dynamic feature of the TSM can be recognized by the strong narrow peak observed in the $ππ$ invariant mass spectrum of $η(1440)\to 3π$ with anomalously large isospin violations. Nevertheless, we explicitly demonstrate that the TSM can produce obvious peak position shifts for the same $η(1440)$ or $f_1(1420)$ state in different decay channels. This is a strong evidence that the $η(1405)$ and $η(1475)$ are actually the same state, i.e. $η(1440)$. We also make an analysis of the radiative decays of $η(1440)\to γV$ ($V=ϕ$, $ρ^0$ or $ω$) which shows that such a one-state prescription seems not to have a conflict with the so-far existing experimental data. Our analysis may shed a light on the long-standing puzzling question on the nature of $η(1405)$ and $η(1475)$.

However, additional data is necessary to allow for stronger conclusions.

$Z_b/Z_b^\prime \to Υπ$ and $h_b π$ decays in intermediate meson loops model

With the recent measurement of $Z_b(10610)$ and $Z_b(10650)\to B\bar{B}^*+c.c.$ and $B^*\bar{B}^*$, we investigate the transitions from the $Z_b(10610)$ and $Z_b(10650)$ to bottomonium states with emission of a pion via intermediate $B \ {B}^*$ meson loops. The experimental data can be reproduced in this approach with a commonly accepted range of values for the form factor cutoff parameter $α$. The $Υ(3S)π$ decay channels appear to experience obvious threshold effects which can be understood by the property of the loop integrals. By investigating the $α$-dependence of partial decay widths and ratios between different decay channels, we show that the intermediate $B \ {B}^*$ meson loops are crucial for driving the transitions of $Z_b/Z_b'\to Υ(nS)π$ with $n = 1, 2, 3$, and $h_b(mP)π$ with $m = 1$ and 2.

$η_c$ mixing effects on charmonium and $B$ meson decays

We include the $η_c$ meson into the $η$-$η'$-$G$ mixing formalism constructed in our previous work, where $G$ represents the pseudoscalar gluball. The mixing angles in this tetramixing matrix are constrained by theoretical and experimental implications from relevant hadronic processes. Especially, the angle between $η_c$ and $G$ is found to be about $11^\circ$ from the measured decay widths of the $η_c$ meson. The pseudoscalar glueball mass $m_G$, the pseudoscalar densities $m_{qq,ss,cc}$ and the U(1) anomaly matrix elements associated with the mixed states are solved from the anomalous Ward identities. The solution $m_G\approx 1.4$ GeV obtained from the $η$-$η'$-$G$ mixing is confirmed, while $m_{qq}$ grows to above the pion mass, and thus increases perturbative QCD predictions for the branching ratios $Br(B\toη'K)$. We then analyze the $η_c$-mixing effects on charmonium magnetic dipole transitions, and on the $B\toη^{(\prime)}K_S$ branching ratios and CP asymmetries, which further improve the consistency between theoretical predictions and data. A predominant observation is that the $η_c$ mixing enhances the perturbative QCD predictions for $Br(B\toη'K)$ by 18%, but does not alter those for $Br(B\toηK)$. The puzzle due to the large $Br(B\toη'K)$ data is then resolved.

Isospin violating decay of $ψ(3770)\rightarrow J/ψ+ π^0$

The strong-isospin violation in $ψ(3770)\rightarrow J/ψ+ π^0$ via intermediate $D$ meson loops is investigated in an effective Lagrangian approach. In this process, there is only one $D$-meson loop contributing to the absorptive part, and the uncertainties due to the introduction of form factors can be minimized. With the help of QCD spectral sum rules (QSSR), we extract the $J/ψDD^*$ form factor as an implement from the first principle of QCD. The $DD^*π^0$ form factor can be well determined from the experimental data for $D\rightarrowπlν$. The exploration of the dispersion relation suggests the dominance of the dispersive part via the intermediate $D$ meson loops even below the open charm threshold. This investigation could provide further insights into the puzzling question on the mechanisms for $ψ(3770)\to$ non-$D\bar{D}$ transitions.

Novel insights into the $γγ^*\to π^0$ transition form factor

BaBar's observation of significant deviations of the pion transition form factor (TFF) from the asymptotic expectation with $Q^2>9$ GeV$^2$ has brought a serious crisis to a fundamental picture established for such a simplest $q\bar{q}$ system by perturbative QCD, i.e. the dominance of collinear factorization at high momentum transfers for the pion TFF. We show that non-factorizable contributions due to open flavors in $γγ^*\toπ^0$ could be an important source that contaminates the pQCD asymptotic limit and causes such deviations with $Q^2>9$ GeV$^2$. Within an effective Lagrangian approach, the non-factorizable amplitudes can be related to intermediate hadron loops, i.e. $K^{(*)}$ and $D^{(*)}$ etc, and their corrections to the $π^0$ and $η$ TFFs can be estimated.

Open charm effects in the explanation of the long-standing "$ρπ$ puzzle"

A detailed analysis of the open charm effects on the decays of $J/ψ(ψ^\prime)\to VP$ is presented, where $V$ stands for light vector meson and $P$ for light pseudoscalar meson. These are the channels that the so-called "12% rule" of perturbative QCD (pQCD) is obviously violated. Nevertheless, they are also the channels that violate the pQCD helicity selection rule (HSR) at leading order. In this work, we put constraints on the electromagnetic (EM) contribution, short-distance contribution from the $c\bar{c}$ annihilation at the wavefunction origin, and long-distance contribution from the open charm threshold effects on these two decays. We show that interferences among these amplitudes, in particular, the destructive interferences between the short-distance and long-distance strong amplitudes play a key role to evade the HSR and cause the significant deviations from the pQCD expected "12% rule".

Probing scalar meson structures in $χ_{c1}$ decays into pseudoscalar and scalar

We evaluate the decay branching ratios of $χ_{c1}\to PS$, in a quark model parametrization scheme, where $P$ and $S$ stand for pseudoscalar and scalar meson, respectively. An interesting feature of this decay process is that the $c\bar{c}$ annihilate via the pQCD hair-pin diagram is supposed to be dominant. Hence, this decay process should be sensitive to the quark components of the final-state light mesons, and would provide a great opportunity for testing the mixing relations among the scalar mesons, i.e. $f_0(1370)$, $f_0(1500)$ and $f_0(1710)$, by tagging the final state pseudoscalar mesons.

Study of the anomalous cross-section lineshape of e^+e^-\to D\bar D at ψ(3770) with an effective field theory

We study the anomalous cross-section lineshape of $e^+e^-\rightarrow D\bar D$ with an effective field theory. Near the threshold, most of the $D\bar D$ pairs are from the decay of $ψ(3770)$. Taking into account the fact that the nonresonance background is dominated by the $ψ(2S)$ transition, the produced $D\bar D$ pair can undergo final-state interactions before the pair is detected. We propose an effective field theory for the low-energy $D\bar D$ interactions to describe these final-state interactions and find that the anomalous lineshape of the $D\bar D$ cross section observed by the BESII collaboration can be well described.

The mixing of $D_{s1}(2460)$ and $D_{s1}(2536)$

The mixing mechanism of axial-vectors $D_{s1}(2460)$ and $D_{s1}(2536)$ is studied via intermediate hadron loops, e.g. $D^* K$, to which both states have strong couplings. By constructing the two-state mixing propagator matrix that respects the unitarity constraint and calculating the vertex coupling form factors in a chiral quark model, we can extract the masses, widths and mixing angles of the physical states. Two poles can be identified in the propagator matrix. One is at $\sqrt{s}=2454.5 \ \textrm{MeV}$ corresponding to $D_{s1}(2460)$ and the other at $\sqrt{s}=(2544.9-1.0i) \ \textrm{MeV}$ corresponding to $D_{s1}(2536)$. For $D_{s1}(2460)$, a large mixing angle $θ=47.5^\circ$ between ${}^3P_1$ and ${}^1P_1$ is obtained. It is driven by the real part of the mixing matrix element and corresponds to $θ'=12.3^\circ$ between the $j=1/2$ and $j=3/2$ state mixing in the heavy quark limit. For $D_{s1}(2536)$, a mixing angle $θ=39.7^\circ$ which corresponds to $θ'=4.4^\circ$ in the heavy quark limit is found. An additional phase angle $ϕ=-6.9^\circ \sim 6.9^\circ$ is needed at the pole mass of $D_{s1}(2536)$ since the mixing matrix elements are complex numbers. Both the real and imaginary part are found important for the large mixing angle. We show that the new experimental data from BaBar provide a strong constraint on the mixing angle at the mass of $D_{s1}(2536)$, from which two values can be extracted, i.e. $θ_1=32.1^\circ$ or $θ_2=38.4^\circ$. Our study agrees well with the latter one. Detailed analysis of the mass shift procedure due to the coupled channel effects is also presented.

The nature of X(3900) and recognition of open charm effects

We identify open charm effects in a direct production process $e^+e^-\to J/ψπ^0$. A unique feature of this process is that the $D\bar{D}^*+c.c.$ threshold is located at a relatively isolated energy region, i.e. $\sim 3.876 \ \mathrm{GeV}$, which is far away from the well-established charmonia $ψ(3770)$ and $ψ(4040)$. Therefore, the cross section line-shape of this reaction provides an opportunity for singling out the open charm effects. A model-independent narrow enhancement between the thresholds of $D^0\bar{D}^{*0}+c.c.$ and $D^+D^{*-}+c.c.$ is predicted. This study can also help understand the X(3900) enhancement recently observed by the Belle and BaBar Collaboration in $e^+e^-\to D\bar{D}+c.c.$ We also show that the open charm effects play a crucial role for our understanding of the long-standing "$ρπ$ puzzle".

The puzzle of anomalously large isospin violations in $η(1405/1475)\to 3π$

The BES-III Collaboration recently report the observation of anomalously large isospin violations in $J/ψ\to γη(1405/1475) \to γπ^0 f_0(980)\to γ+3π$, where the $f_0(980)$ in the $ππ$ invariant mass spectrum appears to be much narrower ($\sim$ 10 MeV) than the peak width ($\sim$50 MeV) measured in other processes. We show that a mechanism, named as triangle singularity (TS), can produce a narrow enhancement between the charged and neutral $K\bar{K}$ thresholds, i.e., $2m_{K^\pm}\sim 2m_{K^0}$. It can also lead to different invariant mass spectra for $η(1405/1475)\to a_0(980)π$ and $K\bar{K}^*+c.c.$, which can possibly explain the long-standing puzzle about the need for two close states $η(1405)$ and $η(1475)$ in $ηππ$ and $K\bar{K}π$, respectively. The TS could be a key to our understanding of the nature of $η(1405/1475)$ and advance our knowledge about the mixing between $a_0(980)$ and $f_0(980)$.

In this proceeding, we report our recent study of the mixing mechanism between $D_{s1}(2460)$ and $D_{s1}(2536)$. On the basis of Godfrey-Isgur model, we consider the $D^*K$ hadron loop effect on the ${}^3P_1$ and ${}^1P_1$ $c\bar{s}$ states. We construct the propagator matrix of these two-state system, from which we can extract the poles as well as the mixing angles. Through this method, we simultaneously determine the masses, widths and mixing angle of these two physical states and the results agree well with the experimental measurement. Besides the mass shift, we also find that the hadron loop effects can cause a significant shift for the mixing angles from the value determined in the heavy quark symmetry limit.

$η'$ photoproduction on the nucleons in the quark model

A chiral quark-model approach is adopted to study the $γp\rightarrow η'p$ and $γn\rightarrow η' n$. Good descriptions of the recent observations from CLAS and CBELSA/TAPS are obtained. Both of the processes are governed by $S_{11}(1535)$ and $u$ channel background. Strong evidence of an $n=3$ shell resonance $D_{15}(2080)$ is found in the reactions, which accounts for the bump-like structure around $W=2.1$ GeV observed in the total cross section and excitation functions at very forward angles. The $S_{11}(1920)$ seems to be needed in the reactions, with which the total cross section near threshold for the $γp\rightarrow η' p$ is improved slightly. The polarized beam asymmetries show some sensitivities to $D_{13}(1520)$, although its effects on the differential cross sections and total cross sections are negligible. There is no obvious evidence of the $P$-, $D_{13}$-, $F$- and $G$-wave resonances with a mass around 2.0 GeV in the reactions.

$η$ photoproduction on the quasi-free nucleons in the chiral quark model

A chiral quark-model approach is adopted to study the $η$ photoproduction off the quasi-free neutron and proton from a deuteron target. Good descriptions of the differential cross sections, total cross sections and beam asymmetries for these two processes are obtained in the low energy region. For $γp\rightarrow ηp$, the dominant resonances are $S_{11}(1535)$, $S_{11}(1650)$, $D_{13}(1520)$, $D_{13}(1700)$ and $P_{13}(1720)$. While for the $γn\rightarrow ηn$ process, the dominant resonances are $S_{11}(1535)$, $S_{11}(1650)$, $D_{13}(1520)$, $D_{15}(1675)$ and $P_{13}(1720)$. Furthermore, the $u$ channel backgrounds have significant contributions to the $η$ photoproduction processes. The configuration mixings in the $S_{11}(1535,1650)$ and $D_{13}(1520,1700)$ can be extracted, i.e. $θ_S\simeq 26^\circ$ and $θ_D\simeq 21^\circ$. It shows that the narrow bump-like structure around $W= 1.68$ GeV observed in $γn\rightarrow ηn$ can be naturally explained by the constructive interferences between $S_{11}(1535)$ and $S_{11}(1650)$. In contrast, the destructive interference between $S_{11}(1535)$ and $S_{11}(1650)$ produces the shallow dip around $W= 1.67$ GeV in $γp\rightarrow ηp$. The $S$ wave interfering behaviors in the proton and neutron reactions are correlated with each other in the quark model framework, and no new exotic nucleon resonances are needed in these two reactions.

Open charm effects in $e^+e^-\to J/ψη$, $J/ψπ^0$ and $ϕη_c$

We propose to study the open charm effects in $e^+ e^-\to J/ψη$, $J/ψπ^0$ and $ϕη_c$. We show that the exclusive cross section lineshapes of these processes would be strongly affected by the open charm effects. Since the final state light meson productions are through soft gluon radiations, we assume a recognition of this soft process via charmed meson loops at hadronic level. A unique feature among these three reactions is that the $D\bar{D^*}+c.c.$ open channel is located in a relatively isolated energy, i.e. $\sim 3.876$ GeV, which is sufficiently far away from the known charmonia $ψ(3770)$ and $ψ(4040)$. Therefore, the cross section lineshapes of these reactions may provide an opportunity for singling out the open charm effects with relatively well-defined charmonium contributions. In particular, we find that reaction $e^+ e^-\to J/ψπ^0$ is sensitive to the open charm $D\bar{D^*}+c.c.$ Due to the dominance of the isospin-0 component at the charmonium energy region, we predict an enhanced model-independent cusp effect between the thresholds of $D^0\bar{D}^0+c.c.$ and $D^+ D^{*-}+c.c.$ This study can also help us to understand the X(3900) enhancement recently observed by Belle Collaboration in $e^+ e^-\to D\bar{D}+c.c.$

Due to the dominance of the isospin-0 component at the charmonium energy region, an enhanced model-independent cusp effect between the thresholds of $D^0\bar{D^{*0}}+c.c.$ and $D^+ D^{*-}+c.c.$ can be highlighted. An energy scan over this energy region in the $e^+e^-$ annihilation reaction can help us to understand the nature of X(3900) recently observed by Belle Collaboration in $e^+ e^-\to D\bar{D}+c.c.$, and establish the open charm effects as an important non-perturbative mechanism in the charmonium energy region.

Focussing on the $πN$ and $K N$ scatterings, we show that the cross sections near threshold can be well accounted for by the chiral quark model with only few parameters. The $S$-wave dominance in both $π^- p\to ηn$ and $K^- p\to Σ^0π^0$ can be well understood in the quark model framework. Lineshape of $e^+ e^-\to D^* \bar D+c.c.$ and electromagnetic form factor of $D^*\to D$ transition in the time-like region

In this work, we apply the vector meson dominance (VMD) model to extract the electromagnetic time-like form factor of the $D^*\to D$ transition combining the recent Belle data for $e^+ e^-\to D^{*+} D^- + c.c.$ and data for $D^*\to Dγ$. Two solutions are obtained in the interpretation of the cross section lineshape: i) With a relatively large coupling for $ψD^*\bar{D}$ determined by experiment, destructive interferences among those charmonium components are required to bring down the overall cross sections, and then account for the cross section lineshape. ii) With a relatively small value for the $ψD^*\bar{D}$ coupling based on heavy quark theory, an apparent cross section deficit near threshold is observed, and contributions from other mechanisms are needed. It might imply the presence of an additional resonance X(3900). Meanwhile, we also point out that an enhancement like that could be produced by the $D_s^*\bar{D_s}+c.c.$ open channel effects.

Novel analysis of the decays psi' -> h_c pi^0 and eta_c'-> chi_{c0} pi^0

We show that in the transitions psi' -> h_c π^0 and eta_c' -> chi_{c0} pi^0 the contributions from charmed meson loops are highly suppressed, in contrast to various other charmonium decays. We calculate the width of the psi' -> h_c pi^0, which agrees with the recent BES-III data, and predict the width of the eta_c' -> chi_{c0} pi^0, Γ(eta_c' -> chi_{c0} pi^0) = 1.5\pm0.4 keV. A confirmation of this prediction would also provide additional support for a recent analysis of psi' -> J/psi pi^0 (eta), where loops are claimed to play a prominent role.

Puzzles in charmonium decays

The open charm effects via intermediate hadron loop transitions seem to play a crucial role in the understanding of several existing "puzzles" in charmonium exclusive decays, such as the $ψ(3770)$ non-$D\bar{D}$ decays, and "$ρπ$ puzzle" etc. In the charmonium energy region, non-perturbative mechanisms could be still sizeable, and as a consequence the intermediate hadron loop transitions also provide a mechanism for the helicity-selection-rule (HSR) violation. We report our recent progress on those existing puzzles.

Strong decays of newly observed $D_{sJ}$ states in a constituent quark model with effective Lagrangians

The strong decay properties of the newly observed states $D_{sJ}(3040)$, $D_{sJ}(2860)$ and $D_{sJ}(2710)$ are studied in a constituent quark model with quark-meson effective Lagrangians. We find that the $D_{sJ}(3040)$ could be identified as the low mass physical state $|2{P_1}>_L$ ($J^P=1^+$) from the $D_{s}(2^1P_1)$-$D_{s}(2^3P_1)$ mixing. The $D_{sJ}(2710)$ is likely to be the low-mass mixed state $|(SD)>_L$ via the $1^3D_1$-$2^3S_1$ mixing. In our model, the $D_{sJ}(2860)$ cannot be assigned to any single state with a narrow width and compatible partial widths to $DK$ and $D^*K$. Thus, we investigate a two-state scenario as proposed in the literature. In our model, one resonance is likely to be the $1^3D_3$ ($J^P=3^-$), which mainly decays into $DK$. The other resonance seems to be the $|1{D_2}'>_H$, i.e. the high-mass state in the $1^1D_2$-$1^3D_2$ mixing with $J^P=2^-$, of which the $D^*K$ channel is its key decay mode. We also discuss implications arising from these assignments and give predictions for their partner states such as $|(SD)'>_H$, $|2{P'_1}>_H$, $2^3P_0$ and $2^3P_2$, which could be helpful for the search for these new states in future experiment.

Study of $η_c$ and $η_c^\prime$ decays into vector meson pairs

The processes of $η_c (η_c')\to VV$ are supposed to be suppressed by the helicity selection rule (HSR) but found to be rather important decay modes in experiment for $η_c$. We try to distinguish the short-distance transitions via the singly disconnected Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka (SOZI) processes and the doubly disconnected (DOZI) processes in $η_c (η_c')\to VV$. It shows that the SOZI processes can be related to the $η_c(η_c')$ wavefunctions at the origin. Therefore, a relation of the decay branching ratio fraction between these two decay channels can be established. Such a relation is similar to that for $J/ψ$ and $ψ^\prime\to VP$, where the so-called "$ρπ$ puzzle" has been existed for a while. We also show that the intermediate charmed meson loop transitions provide an evading mechanism for the DOZI processes. This contribution would turn out to be more important in $η_c^\prime\to VV$. As a consequence, it may produce significant deviations from the SOZI-dominant scenario. Future experimental measurement of the $η_c^\prime\to VV$ by BESIII should be able to clarify the DOZI-evading mechanisms.

The evasion of helicity selection rule in $χ_{c1}\to VV$ and $χ_{c2}\to VP$ via intermediate charmed meson loops

The hadronic decays of $χ_{c1}\to VV$ and $χ_{c2}\to VP$ are supposed to be suppressed by the helicity selection rule in the pQCD framework. With an effective Lagrangian method, we show that the intermediate charmed meson loops can provide a mechanism for the evasion of the helicity selection rule, and result in sizeable decay branching ratios in some of those channels. The theoretical predictions can be examined by the forthcoming BES-III data in the near future.

The lineshape of $ψ(3770)$ and low-lying vector charmonium resonance parameters in $e^+ e^-\to D\bar D$

We investigate the $D\bar{D}$ production in $e^+e^-$ annihilations near threshold in an effective Lagrangian approach. This shows that the lineshape of the cross section near threshold is sensitive to the contributions from $ψ^\prime$, though it is below the $D\bar{D}$ threshold. The recent experimental data from the BES and Belle collaborations allow us to determine the $ψ^\prime D\bar{D}$ coupling constant which appears to be consistent with other theoretical studies. As a consequence, the $ψ^\prime$-$ψ(3770)$ mixing parameter can be extracted around the $ψ(3770)$ mass region. Resonance parameters for $ψ(3770)$, X(3900), $ψ(4040)$, and $ψ(4160)$ are also investigated. The X(3900) appears as an enhancement at around 3.9 GeV in the Belle data. In addition to treating it as a resonance, we also study the mechanism that the enhancement is produced by the $D\bar{D^*}+c.c.$ open channel effects. Our result shows that such a possibility cannot be eliminated.

Study of isospin violating $ϕ$ excitation in $e^+e^- \to ωπ^0$

We study the reaction $e^+ e^-\to ωπ^0$ in the vicinity of $ϕ$ mass region. The isospin-violating $ϕ$ excitation is accounted for by two major mechanisms. One is electromagnetic (EM) transition and the other is strong isospin violations. For the latter, we consider contributions from the intermediate hadronic meson loops and $ϕ$-$ρ^0$ mixing as the major mechanisms via the $t$ and s-channel transitions, respectively. By fitting the recent KLOE data, we succeed in constraining the model parameters and extracting the $ϕ\toωπ^0$ branching ratio. It shows that the branching ratio is sensitive to the $ϕ$ excitation line shape and background contributions. Some crucial insights into the correlation between isospin violation and Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka (OZI) rule evading transitions are also learned.

Glueball-$Q\bar{Q}$ mixing and Okuba-Zweig-Iizuka rule violation in the hadronic decays of heavy quarkonia

We investigate the correlations between the scalar meson configurations and Okuba-Zweig-Iizuka (OZI) rule violations in the hadronic decays of heavy quarkonia, e.g. $J/ψ$ and $Υ$, into isoscalar vector meson ($ϕ$ and $ω$) and scalar mesons ($f_0(1710)$, $f_0(1500)$, and $f_0(1370)$). It shows that the dramatic change of the values of the branching ratio fraction of $ϕf_0/ωf_0$ from low (e.g. in $J/ψ$ decays) to high energies (e.g. in $Υ$ decays) will not only test the glueball-$Q\bar{Q}$ mixings, but also provide important information about the mysterious OZI-rule violations within the scalars.

Study the exotic $Θ^+$ with polarized photon beams

We carry out an analysis of the pentaquark $Θ^+$ photoproduction with polarized photon beams. Kinematical and dynamical aspects are examined for the purpose of determining $Θ^+$'s spin and parity. It shows that the polarized photon beam asymmetry in association with certain dynamical properties of the production mechanism would provide further information on its quantum numbers. Facilities at SPring-8, JLab, ELSA, and ESRF will have access to them.
