A survey of the number of supersolvable subgroups of finite groups

In this paper we survey a new criteria for solvability of finite groups in terms of number of supersolvable (also known as polycyclic) and non-supersolvable subgroups. In particular, we present original examples of supersolvable groups such as non-abelian groups with two cyclic generators. Additionally, we present some examples and applications in GAP system providing some description about recent criteria for solvability and properties of finite groups based on the number of supersolvable and non-supersolvable subgroups of a finite group $G$.

Transcritical Bifurcations and Algebraic Aspects of Quadratic Multiparametric Families

This article reveals an analysis of the quadratic systems that hold multiparametric families therefore, in the first instance the quadratic systems are identified and classified in order to facilitate their study and then the stability of the critical points in the finite plane, its bifurcations, stable manifold and lastly, the stability of the critical points in the infinite plane, afterwards the phase portraits resulting from the analysis of these families are graphed. To properly perform this study it was necessary to use some results of the non-linear systems theory, for this reason vital definitions and theorems were included because of their importance during the study of the multiparametric families. Algebraic aspects are also included.

From Poincaré to May: The Genesis of Discrete Dynamics

In this paper, the origin of discrete dynamics is stated from a historical point of view, as well as its main ideas: fixed and periodic points, chaotic behaviour, bifurcations. This travel will begin with Poincaré's work and will finish with May's work, one of the most important scientific papers of 20th century. This paper is based on the M.Sc. thesis "Simple Permutations, Pasting and Reversing", written by the first author under the guidance of the second author.

Nonintegrability of the unfoldings of codimension-two bifurcations

Codimension-two bifurcations are fundamental and interesting phenomena in dynamical systems. Fold-Hopf and double-Hopf bifurcations are the most important among them. We study the unfoldings of these two codimension-two bifurcations, and obtain sufficient conditions for their nonintegrability in the meaning of Bogoyavlenskij. We reduce the problems of the unfoldings to those of planar polynomial vector fields and analyze the nonintegrability of the planar vector fields, based on Ayoul and Zung's version of the Morales-Ramis theory. New useful criteria for nonintegrability of planar polynomial vector fields are also given. The approaches used here are applicable to many problems including circular symmetric systems.

A model of anaerobic digestion for biogas production using Abel equations

Some time ago has been studied mathematical models for biogas production due to its importance in the use of control and optimization of re\-new\-able resources and clean energy. In this paper we combine two algebraic methods to obtain solutions of Abel equation of first kind that arise from a mathematical model to biogas production formulated in France on 2001. The aim of this paper is obtain Liouvillian solutions of Abel's equations through Hamiltonian Algebrization. As an illustration, we present graphics of solutions for Abel equations and solutions for algebrized Abel equations.

Pasting and Reversing Approach to Matrix Theory

The aim of this paper is to study some aspects of matrix theory through Pasting and Reversing. We start giving a summary of previous results concerning to Pasting and Reversing over vectors and matrices, after we rewrite such properties of Pasting and Reversing in matrix theory using linear mappings to finish with new properties and new sets in matrix theory involving Pasting and Reversing. In particular we introduce new linear mappings: Palindromicing and Antipalindromicing mappings, which allow us to obtain palindromic and antipalindromic vectors and matrices.

Simple permutations with order $4n + 2$ by means of Pasting and Reversing

The problem of genealogy of permutations has been solved partially by Stefan (odd order) and Acosta-Humánez \& Bernhardt (power of two). It is well known that Sharkovskii's theorem shows the relationship between the cardinal of the set of periodic points of a continuous map, but simple permutations will show the behaviour of those periodic points. Recently Abdulla et al studied the structure of minimal $4n+2$-orbits of the continuous endomorphisms on the real line. This paper studies some combinatorial dynamics structures of permutations of mixed order $4n+2$, describing its genealogy, using Pasting and Reversing.

Liouvillian Propagators, Riccati Equation and Differential Galois Theory

In this paper a Galoisian approach to build propagators through Riccati equations is presented. The main result corresponds to the relationship between the Galois integrability of the linear Schrödinger equation and the virtual solvability of the differential Galois group of its associated characteristic equation. As main application of this approach we solve the Ince's differential equation through Hamiltonian Algebrization procedure and Kovacic Algorithm to find the propagator for a generalized harmonic oscillator that has applications describing the process of degenerate parametric amplification in quantum optics and the description of the light propagation in a nonlinear anisotropic waveguide. Toy models of propagators inspired by integrable Riccati equations and integrable characteristic equations are also presented.

Darboux Integrals for Schrödinger Planar Vector Fields via Darboux Transformations

In this paper we study the Darboux transformations of planar vector fields of Schrödinger type. Using the isogaloisian property of Darboux transformation we prove the "invariance" of the objects of the "Darboux theory of integrability". In particular, we also show how the shape invariance property of the potential is important in order to preserve the structure of the transformed vector field. Finally, as illustration of these results, some examples of planar vector fields coming from supersymmetric quantum mechanics are studied.

Non-integrability Criterium for Normal Variational Equations around an integrable Subsystem and an example: The Wilbeforce spring-pendulum

In this paper we analyze the non-integrability of the Wilbeforce pendulum by means of Morales-Ramis theory in where is enough to prove that the Galois group of the variational equation is not virtually abelian. We obtain these non-integrability results due to the algebrization of the variational equation falls into a Heun differential equation with four singularities and then we apply Kovacic's algorithm to determine its non-integrability.

On the integrability of polynomial fields in the plane by means of Picard-Vessiot theory

We study the integrability of polynomial vector fields using Galois theory of linear differential equations when the associated foliations is reduced to a Riccati type foliation. In particular we obtain integrability results for some families of quadratic vector fields, Liénard equations and equations related with special functions such as Hypergeometric and Heun ones. The Poincaré problem for some families is also approached.

Simple permutations with order $4n + 2$. Part I

The problem of genealogy of permutations has been solved partially by Stefan (odd order) and Acosta-Humánez & Bernhardt (power of two). It is well known that Sharkovskii's theorem shows the relationship between the cardinal of the set of periodic points of a continuous map, but simple permutations will show the behavior of those periodic points. This paper studies the structure of permutations of mixed order $4n+2$, its properties and a way to describe its genealogy by using Pasting and Reversing.

Galoisian Approach to integrability of Schrödinger Equation

In this paper, we examine the non-relativistic stationary Schrödinger equation from a differential Galois-theoretic perspective. The main algorithmic tools are pullbacks of second order ordinary linear differential operators, so as to achieve rational function coefficients ("algebrization"), and Kovacic's algorithm for solving the resulting equations. In particular, we use this Galoisian approach to analyze Darboux transformations, Crum iterations and supersymmetric quantum mechanics. We obtain the ground states, eigenvalues, eigenfunctions, eigenstates and differential Galois groups of a large class of Schrödinger equations, e.g. those with exactly solvable and shape invariant potentials (the terms are defined within). Finally, we introduce a method for determining when exact solvability is possible.
