Scaling of conformal blocks and generalized theta functions over $\bar{M}_{g,n}$

By way of intersection theory on $\bar M_{g,n}$, we show that geometric interpretations for conformal blocks, as sections of ample line bundles over projective varieties, do not have to hold at points on the boundary. We show such a translation would imply certain recursion relations for first Chern classes of these bundles. While recursions can fail, geometric interpretations are shown to hold under certain conditions.

Nonvanishing of conformal blocks divisors on $\bar{M}_{0,n}$

We introduce and study the problem of finding necessary and sufficient conditions under which a conformal blocks divisor on $\bar{M}_{0,n}$ is nonzero. We give necessary conditions in type A, which are sufficient when theta and critical levels coincide. We show that divisors are subject to additive identities, dependent on ranks of the underlying bundle. These identities amplify vanishing and nonvanishing results and have other applications.

Unitarity of the KZ/Hitchin connection on conformal blocks in genus 0 for arbitrary Lie algebras

We prove that the vector bundles of conformal blocks, on suitable moduli spaces of genus zero curves with marked points, for arbitrary simple Lie algebras and arbitrary integral levels, carry unitary metrics of geometric origin which are preserved by the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov/Hitchin connection (as conjectured by Gawedzki). Our proof builds upon the work of Ramadas who proved this unitarity statement in the case of the Lie algebra sl(2) (and genus 0). We note that unitarity has been proved in all genera (including genus 0) by the combined work of Kirillov and Wenzl in the 90's (their approach does not yield a concrete metric).

Multiplicity of critical points of master functions and Schubert calculus

In [MV], some correspondences were defined between critical points of master functions associated to sl_{N+1} and subspaces of C[x] with given ramification properties. In this paper we show that these correspondences are in fact scheme theoretic isomorphisms of appropriate schemes. This gives relations between multiplicities of critical point loci of the relevant master functions and multiplicities in Schubert calculus.

Eigenvalue problem and a new product in cohomology of flag varieties

Let G be a connected semisimple complex algebraic group and let P be a parabolic subgroup. In this paper we define a new (commutative and associative) product on the cohomology of the homogenous spaces G/P and use this to give a more efficient solution of the eigenvalue problem and also for the problem of determining the existence of G-invariants in the tensor product of irreducible representations of G. On the other hand, we show that this new product is intimately connected with the Lie algebra cohomology of the nil-radical of P via some works of Kostant and Kumar. We also initiate a uniform study of the geometric Horn problem for an arbitrary group $G$ by obtaining two (a priori) different sets of necessary recursive conditions to determine when a cohomology product of Schubert classes in G/P is non-zero. Hitherto, this was studied largely only for the group \SL(n).
