Rigid Cohomology and de Rham-Witt complexes

Let $k$ be a perfect field of characteristic $p > 0$, $W_n = W_n(k)$. For separated $k$-schemes of finite type, we explain how rigid cohomology with compact supports can be computed as the cohomology of certain de Rham-Witt complexes with coefficients. This result generalizes the classical comparison theorem of Bloch-Illusie for proper and smooth schemes. In the proof, the key step is an extension of the Bloch-Illusie theorem to the case of cohomologies relative to $W_n$ with coefficients in a crystal that is only supposed to be flat over $W_n$.

Rational points over finite fields for regular models of algebraic varieties of Hodge type $\geq 1$

Let $R$ be a discrete valuation ring of mixed characteristics $(0,p)$, with finite residue field $k$ and fraction field $K$, let $k'$ be a finite extension of $k$, and let $X$ be a regular, proper and flat $R$-scheme, with generic fibre $X_K$ and special fibre $X_k$. Assume that $X_K$ is geometrically connected and of Hodge type $\geq 1$ in positive degrees. Then we show that the number of $k'$-rational points of $X$ satisfies the congruence $|X(k')| \equiv 1$ mod $|k'|$. Thanks to \cite{BBE07}, we deduce such congruences from a vanishing theorem for the Witt cohomology groups $H^q(X_k, W\sO_{X_k,\Q})$, for $q > 0$. In our proof of this last result, a key step is the construction of a trace morphism between the Witt cohomologies of the special fibres of two flat regular $R$-schemes $X$ and $Y$ of the same dimension, defined by a surjective projective morphism $f : Y \to X$.

A note on Frobenius divided modules in mixed characteristics

If $X$ is a smooth scheme over a perfect field of characteristic $p$, and if $\sD_X$ is the sheaf of differential operators on $X$ [EGAIV], it is well known that giving an action of $\sD_X$ on an $\sO_X$-module $\sE$ is equivalent to giving an infinite sequence of $\sO_X$-modules descending $\sE$ via the iterates of the Frobenius endomorphism of $X$. We show that this result can be generalized to any infinitesimal deformation $f : X \to S$ of a smooth morphism in characteristic $p$, endowed with Frobenius liftings. We also show that it extends to adic formal schemes such that $p$ belongs to an ideal of definition. In a recent preprint, dos Santos used this result to lift $\sD_X$-modules from characteristic $p$ to characteristic 0 with control of the differential Galois group.
