Complete NLO SMEFT Electroweak Corrections to Higgs Decays

Precise predictions for Higgs decays are a crucial ingredient of the search for beyond the Standard Model (BSM) physics and the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) is a valuable tool for quantifying deviations from the Standard Model (SM). We present the complete set of predictions for the 2- and 3- body Higgs decays at next-to-leading order (NLO), considering QCD and electroweak corrections and including all contributions from the dimension-6 SMEFT operators and with an arbitrary flavor structure. Including the NLO SMEFT results for Higgs decays greatly increases the sensitivity to BSM physics of the $e^+e^-\rightarrow Zh$ process at FCC-ee, as compared with that obtained using only the total cross section.

$gg \to ZH$ : updated predictions at NLO QCD

We present state-of-the-art predictions for the inclusive cross section of gluon-initiated $ZH$ production, following the recommendations of the LHC Higgs Working Group. In particular, we include NLO QCD corrections, where the virtual corrections are obtained from the combination of a forward expansion and a high-energy expansion, and the real corrections are exact. The expanded results for the virtual corrections are compared in detail to full numerical results. The updated predictions show a reduction of the scale uncertainties to the level of 15%, and they include an estimate of the top-mass-scheme uncertainty.

Flavorful Electroweak Precision Observables in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory

Electroweak precision observables (EWPO) measured at the W and Z poles provide stringent limits on possible beyond the Standard Model physics scenarios. In an effective field theory (EFT) framework, the next-to-leading order QCD and electroweak results for EWPO yield indirect limits on possible 4-fermion operators that do not contribute to the observables at tree level. Here we calculate the next-to-leading corrections to EWPO induced by flavor non-universal 4-fermion interactions and find that the extracted limits on EFT coefficients have a strong dependence on the flavor structure of the 4-fermion operators.

Gluon Fusion Production at NLO: Merging the Transverse Momentum and the High-Energy Expansions

The virtual corrections to $gg\to HH$ and $gg\to ZH$ are analytically evaluated combining an expansion in the small transverse momentum of the final particles with an expansion valid at high energies. The two expansion methods describe complementary regions of the phase space and we merge their results, extending the range of validity of both expansions using Padé approximants. We show that this approach can reproduce the available numerical results retaining the exact top quark mass dependence with an accuracy well below the 1% level. Our results allow a fast and flexible evaluation of the virtual corrections of the considered processes. Furthermore, they are available in different renormalisation schemes of the top quark mass.

Virtual corrections to $gg\to ZH$ via a transverse momentum expansion

We compute the next-to-leading virtual QCD corrections to the partonic cross section of the production of a Higgs boson in association with a $Z$ boson in gluon fusion. The calculation is based on the recently introduced method of evaluating the amplitude via an expansion in terms of a small transverse momentum. We generalize the method to the case of different masses in the final state and of a process not symmetric in the forward-backward direction exchange. Our analytic approach gives a very good approximation (better than percent) of the partonic cross section in the center of mass energy region up to $\sim 750 \,\textrm{GeV}$, where at the LHC $\sim 98\%$ of the total hadronic cross section is concentrated.

Exo-Higgs at 750 GeV and Genesis of Baryons

We propose that the diphoton excess at 750 GeV reported by ATLAS and CMS is due to the decay of an ${\it exo-Higgs}$ scalar $η$ associated with the breaking of a new $SU(2)_e$ symmetry, dubbed ${\it exo-spin}$. New fermions, ${\it exo-quarks}$ and ${\it exo-leptons}$, get TeV-scale masses through Yukawa couplings with $η$ and generate its couplings to gluons and photons at 1-loop. The matter content of our model yields a $B-L$ anomaly under $SU(2)_e$, whose breaking we assume entails a first order phase transition. A non-trivial $B-L$ asymmetry may therefore be generated in the early universe, potentially providing a baryogenesis mechanism through the Standard Model (SM) sphaleron processes. The spontaneous breaking of $SU(2)_e$ can in principle directly lead to electroweak symmetry breaking, thereby accounting for the proximity of the mass scales of the SM Higgs and the exo-Higgs. Our model can be distinguished from those comprising a singlet scalar and vector fermions by the discovery of TeV scale exo-vector bosons, corresponding to the broken $SU(2)_e$ generators, at the LHC.

On the two-loop virtual QCD corrections to Higgs boson pair production in the Standard Model

We compute the next-to-leading order virtual QCD corrections to Higgs pair production via gluon fusion. We present analytic results for the two-loop contributions to the spin-0 and spin-2 form factors in the amplitude. The reducible contributions, given by the double-triangle diagrams, are evaluated exactly while the two-loop irreducible diagrams are evaluated by an asymptotic expansion in heavy top quark mass up to and including terms of $\mathcal{O}(1/m_t^8)$. Assuming that the finite top-quark mass effects are of similar size in the entire range of partonic energies we estimate that mass effects can reduce the hadronic cross section by at most $10\%$.

Probing the Higgs self coupling via single Higgs production at the LHC

We propose a method to determine the trilinear Higgs self coupling that is alternative to the direct measurement of Higgs pair production total cross sections and differential distributions. The method relies on the effects that electroweak loops featuring an anomalous trilinear coupling would imprint on single Higgs production at the LHC. We first calculate these contributions to all the phenomenologically relevant Higgs production ($gg{\rm F}$, VBF, $WH$, $ZH$, $t\bar tH$) and decay ($γγ$, $WW^{*}/ZZ^{*}\to 4f$, $b\bar b$, $ττ$) modes at the LHC and then estimate the sensitivity to the trilinear coupling via a one-parameter fit to the single Higgs measurements at the LHC 8 TeV. We find that the bounds on the self coupling are already competitive with those from Higgs pair production and will be further improved in the current and next LHC runs.

Investigating the near-criticality of the Higgs boson

We extract from data the parameters of the Higgs potential, the top Yukawa coupling and the electroweak gauge couplings with full 2-loop NNLO precision, and we extrapolate the SM parameters up to large energies with full 3-loop NNLO RGE precision. Then we study the phase diagram of the Standard Model in terms of high-energy parameters, finding that the measured Higgs mass roughly corresponds to the minimum values of the Higgs quartic and top Yukawa and the maximum value of the gauge couplings allowed by vacuum metastability. We discuss various theoretical interpretations of the near-criticality of the Higgs mass.

The $m_{\scriptscriptstyle W}-m_{\scriptscriptstyle Z}$ interdependence in the Standard Model: a new scrutiny

The $m_{\scriptscriptstyle W}-m_{\scriptscriptstyle Z}$ interdependence in the Standard Model is studied at $O(α^2) $ in the $\overline{MS}$ scheme. The relevant radiative parameters, $Δ\hatα (μ),\, Δ\hat{r}_{W},\, \hatρ$ are computed at the full two-loop level augmented by higher-order QCD contributions and by resummation of reducible contributions. We obtain $m_{\scriptscriptstyle W} = 80.357 \pm 0.009 \pm 0.003$ GeV where the errors refer to the parametric and theoretical uncertainties, respectively. A comparison with the known result in the On-Shell scheme gives a difference of $ \approx 6$ MeV. As a byproduct of our calculation we also obtain the $\overline{MS}$ electromagnetic coupling and the Weinberg angle at the top mass scale, $\hatα (M_t) = (127.73)^{-1} \pm 0.0000003$ and $\sin^{2}\!\hatθ_{W} (M_t) = 0.23462 \pm 0.00012$.

The universal Higgs fit

We perform a state-of-the-art global fit to all Higgs data. We synthesise them into a 'universal' form, which allows to easily test any desired model. We apply the proposed methodology to extract from data the Higgs branching ratios, production cross sections, couplings and to analyse composite Higgs models, models with extra Higgs doublets, supersymmetry, extra particles in the loops, anomalous top couplings, invisible Higgs decay into Dark Matter. Best fit regions lie around the Standard Model predictions and are well approximated by our 'universal' fit. Latest data exclude the dilaton as an alternative to the Higgs, and disfavour fits with negative Yukawa couplings. We derive for the first time the SM Higgs boson mass from the measured rates, rather than from the peak positions, obtaining $M_h = 125.0 \pm 1.8$ GeV.

Reconstructing Higgs boson properties from the LHC and Tevatron data

We perform a phenomenological fit to all ATLAS, CMS, CDF and D0 Higgs boson data available after Moriond 2012. We allow all Higgs boson branching fractions, its couplings to standard model particles, as well as to an hypothetical invisible sector to vary freely, and determine their current favourite values. The standard model Higgs boson with a mass 125 GeV correctly predicts the average observed rate and provides an acceptable global fit to data. However, better fits are obtained by non-standard scenarios that reproduce anomalies in the present data (more γγ and less WW signals than expected), such as modified rates of loop processes or partial fermiophobia. We find that present data disfavours Higgs boson invisible decays. We consider implications for the standard model, for supersymmetric and fermiophobic Higgs bosons, for dark matter models, for warped extra-dimensions.

LHC bounds on large extra dimensions

We derive new dominant bounds on the coefficient of the effective operator generated by tree-level graviton exchange in large extra dimensions from pp \rightarrow jj data at LHC: M_T > 2.1TeV (ATLAS after 3.1/pb of integrated luminosity), M_T > 3.4 TeV (CMS after 36/pb), MT > 3.2 TeV (ATLAS after 36/pb). We clarify the role of on-shell graviton exchange and compare the full graviton amplitude to ATLAS data, setting bounds on the fundamental quantum-gravity scale.

Threshold corrections to hard supersymmetric relations

We compute the one-loop threshold corrections to hard supersymmetric relations involving gauge and gaugino couplings for the case of a Split-SUSY-like spectrum with moderate splitting. We show that these contributions are small, however in principle they will typically have to be taken into account if the heavy scalar sector is below 100 TeV and if one reaches, at future linear colliders, the precision that is necessary to perform this kind of measurements.
