A toy model for "elementariness"

Motivated by recent efforts to analyze corrections to Weinberg's relations for the scattering length and effective range in the presence of a near-threshold bound state, we play around with an instructive toy model for non-relativistic scattering in a central potential. The model allows to interpolate between bound-state configurations of high "compositeness", where the wave function is spread over a wide region beyond the range of the interaction, and compact configurations of high "elementariness", where the wave function is confined to a small region around the center of the potential.

Coupled channels approach to ηNηN and η′Nη' N interactions

We present a coupled channels separable potential approach to ηNηN and η′Nη'N interactions using a chiral-symmetric interaction kernel. The s-wave πNπN amplitudes and π−pπ^{-}p induced total cross sections are reproduced satisfactorily in a broad interval of energies despite limiting the channel space to two-body interactions of pseudoscalar mesons with the baryon ground-state octet. It is demonstrated that an explicit inclusion of the η0η_0 meson singlet field leads to a more attractive ηNηN interaction, with the real part of the scattering length exceeding 1 fm. The η′Nη'N diagonal coupling appears sufficient to generate an η′Nη'N bound state but the inter-channel dynamics moves the respective pole far from physical region making the η′Nη'N interaction repulsive at energies around the channel threshold. The N∗(1535)N^{*}(1535) and N∗(1650)N^{*}(1650) resonances are generated dynamically and the origin and properties of the SS-matrix poles assigned to them are studied in detail. We also hint at a chance that the N∗(1895)N^{*}(1895) state might also be formed provided a suitably varied model setting is found.

First moments of nucleon generalized parton distributions in chiral perturbation theory at full one-loop order

In this paper we present chiral extrapolation formulas for the generalized form factors connected to the first moments of chiral-even generalized parton distributions. For the description of QCD at low energies we employ the framework of two-flavor covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory at full one-loop accuracy. Our results are well suited for the extrapolation of lattice QCD data to physical quark masses.

Pion photoproduction off the proton in a gauge-invariant chiral unitary framework

We investigate pion photoproduction off the proton in a manifestly gauge-invariant chiral unitary extension of chiral perturbation theory. In a first step, we consider meson-baryon scattering taking into account all next-to-leading order contact interactions. The resulting low-energy constants are determined by a fit to s-wave pion-nucleon scattering and the low-energy data for the reaction pi- p --> eta n. To assess the theoretical uncertainty, we perform two different fit strategies. Having determined the low-energy constants, we then analyse the data on the s-wave multipole amplitudes E0+ of pion and eta photoproduction. These are parameter-free predictions, as the two new low-energy constants are determined by the neutron and proton magnetic moments.

Chiral extrapolation of nucleon wave function normalization constants

Within the framework of two-flavor covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory we have expressed the Chernyak-Zhitnitsky, Ioffe and Dosch currents in terms of chiral fields to provide leading one-loop extrapolation formulae for the leading and next-to-leading twist normalization constants fNf_N, λ1λ_1 and λ2λ_2. Finite volume effects due to pion loops have been taken into account. The occurring low energy constants are fitted to data obtained from recent lattice QCD simulations in order to extract the values at the physical point.
