Multi-field cold and warm inflation and the de Sitter swampland conjectures

We discuss under which conditions multi-field cold and warm inflationary models with canonical kinetic energy terms are compatible with the swampland conjectures about the emergence of de Sitter solutions in string theory. We find that under quite general conditions the slow-roll conditions for multi-field cold inflation are at odds with the swampland conjectures for an arbitrary number of scalar fields driving inflation. However, slow-roll conditions can be reconciled with the swampland conjectures in the strong dissipative regime of warm inflation.

Unified description of dark energy and dark matter within the generalized hybrid metric-Palatini theory of gravity

The generalized hybrid metric-Palatini theory of gravity admits a scalar-tensor representation in terms of two interacting scalar fields. We show that, upon an appropriate choice of the interaction potential, one of the scalar fields behaves like dark energy, inducing a late-time accelerated expansion of the universe, while the other scalar field behaves like pressureless dark matter that, together with ordinary baryonic matter, dominates the intermediate phases of cosmic evolution. This unified description of dark energy and dark matter gives rise to viable cosmological solutions, which reproduce the main features of the evolution of the universe.

Gravitational wave generation in loop quantum cosmology

We calculate the full spectrum, as observed today, of the cosmological gravitational waves generated within a model based on loop quantum cosmology. It is assumed that the universe, after the transition to the classical regime, undergoes a period of inflation driven by a scalar field with a chaotic-type potential. Our analysis shows that, for certain conditions, loop quantum effects leave a clear signature on the spectrum, namely, an over-production of low-frequency gravitational waves. One of the aims of our work is to show that loop quantum cosmology models can be tested and that, more generally, pre-inflationary physical processes, contrary to what is usually assumed, leave their imprint in those spectra and can also be tested.

Gravitational wave generation in hybrid quintessential inflationary models

We investigate the generation of gravitational waves in the hybrid quintessential inflationary model. The full gravitational-wave energy spectrum is calculated using the method of continuous Bogoliubov coefficients. The post-inflationary kination period, characteristic of quintessential inflationary models, leaves a clear signature on the spectrum, namely, a peak at high frequencies. The maximum of the peak is firmly located at the MHz-GHz region of the spectrum and corresponds to $Ω_{GW} \simeq 10^{-12}$. This peak is substantially smaller than the one appearing in the gravitational-wave energy spectrum of the original quintessential inflationary model, therefore avoiding any conflict with the nucleosynthesis constraint on $Ω_Ω_{GW}$.

The Black Holes of a General Two-Dimensional Dilaton Gravity Theory

A general dilaton gravity theory in 1+1 spacetime dimensions with a cosmological constant $λ$ and a new dimensionless parameter $ω$, contains as special cases the constant curvature theory of Teitelboim and Jackiw, the theory equivalent to vacuum planar General Relativity, the first order string theory, and a two-dimensional purely geometrical theory. The equations of this general two-dimensional theory admit several different black holes with various types of singularities. The singularities can be spacelike, timelike or null, and there are even cases without singularities. Evaluation of the ADM mass, as a charge density integral, is possible in some situations, by carefully subtrating the black hole solution from the corresponding linear dilaton at infinity.
