Wrapped D4-branes from maximal 6D gauged supergravity

We study a large class of domain wall solutions with $Mkw_3\times Σ^2$ and $Mkw_2\times Σ^3$ slices from maximal gauged supergravity in six dimensions. $Σ^2$ and $Σ^3$ are given by a Riemann surface and a $3$-manifold with constant curvature while $Mkw_{3,2}$ denotes three/two-dimensional Minkowski space. We consider the maximal gauged supergravity with $CSO(p,q,5-p-q)$ and $CSO(p,q,4-p-q)\ltimes \mathbb{R}^4$ gauge groups arising from an $S^1$ reduction of seven-dimensional maximal gauged supergravity with $CSO(p,q,5-p-q)$ and $CSO(p,q,4-p-q)$ gauge groups. The two types of gauge group can be embedded in type IIA theory via consistent truncations on $H^{p,q}\times \mathbb{R}^{5-p-q}$ and $H^{p,q}\times\mathbb{R}^{4-p-q}\times S^1$, respectively. By performing topological twists on $Σ^2$ and $Σ^3$, we find a number of solutions interpolating between locally flat domain walls in the UV and curved domain walls with $Mkw_3\times Σ^2$ and $Mkw_2\times Σ^3$ slices in the IR. Many solutions admit physical IR singularities and can be interpreted as holographic RG flows across dimensions from five-dimensional field theories to three- and two-dimensional non-conformal field theories in the IR. Upon uplifted to type IIA theory, we expect the solutions to describe brane configurations involving D4-branes wrapped on $Σ^2$ and $Σ^3$.

Five-branes wrapped on topological disks from 7D N=2 gauged supergravity

We study supersymmetric $AdS_5\times Σ$ solutions, for $Σ$ being a topological disk with non-trivial $U(1)$ holonomy at the boundary or "half-spindle", in seven-dimensional $N=2$ gauged supergravity coupled to three vector multiplets. We consider compact and non-compact gauge groups, $SO(4-p,p)$, for $p=0,1,2$, and find a number of $AdS_5\times Σ$ solutions with $SO(2)\times SO(2)$ and $SO(2)_{\text{diag}}$ residual symmetry from $SO(4)$ and $SO(2,2)$ gauge groups. We also find an $SO(2)_R\subset SO(3)_R\sim SU(2)_R$ symmetric solution which can be regarded as a solution of pure $N=2$ gauged supergravity with $SO(3)_R$ gauge group and all the fields from vector multiplets vanishing. The solutions preserve $\frac{1}{2}$ of the original $N=2$ supersymmetry and could be interpreted as supergravity duals of $N=1$ superconformal field theories in four dimensions. In particular, some of these solutions can be embedded in ten or eleven dimensions in which a description in terms of five-branes wrapped on a topological disk can be given.

Holographic RG flows and symplectic deformations of N=4 gauged supergravity

We study four-dimensional $N=4$ gauged supergravity with $SO(4)\times SO(4)\sim SO(3)\times SO(3)\times SO(3)\times SO(3)$ gauge group in the presence of symplectic deformations. There are in general four electric-magnetic phases corresponding to each $SO(3)$ factor, but two phases of the $SO(3)$ factors embedded in the $SO(6)$ R-symmetry are fixed. One phase can be set to zero by $SL(2,\mathbb{R})$ transformations. The second one gives equivalent theories for any non-vanishing values and can be set to $\fracπ{2}$ resulting in gauged supergravities that admit $N=4$ supersymmetric $AdS_4$ vacua. The remaining two phases are truely deformation parameters leading to different $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ gauged supergravities. As in the $ω$-deformed $SO(8)$ maximal gauged supergravity, the cosmological constant and scalar masses of the $AdS_4$ vacuum at the origin of the scalar manifold with $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ symmetry do not depend on the electric-magnetic phases. We find $N=1$ holographic RG flow solutions between $N=4$ critical points with $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ and $SO(3)_{\textrm{diag}}\times SO(3)\times SO(3)$ or $SO(3)\times SO(3)_{\textrm{diag}}\times SO(3)$ symmetries. We also give $N=2$ and $N=1$ RG flows from these critical points to various non-conformal phases. However, contrary to the $ω$-deformed $SO(8)$ gauged supergravity, there exist non-trivial supersymmetric $AdS_4$ critical points only for particular values of the deformation parameters within the scalar sectors under consideration.

New supersymmetric Janus solutions from N=4 gauged supergravity

We study $N=4$ gauged supergravity with $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ gauge group in the presence of symplectic deformations and find new classes of Janus solutions preserving $N=1$ and $N=2$ supersymmetries. The $N=2$ solutions preserve $SO(2)\times SO(2)\times SO(2)\times SO(2)$ symmetry and interpolate between $N=4$ supersymmetric $AdS_4$ vacua with $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ symmetry. These correspond holographically to $N=(2,0)$ two-dimensional conformal defects within the dual $N=4$ CSM theories with $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ symmetry. The $N=1$ solutions contain two families of Janus configurations, one interpolating between $N=4$ $AdS_4$ vacua with $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ symmetry and the other interpolating between $N=4$ $AdS_4$ vacua with $SO(3)\times SO(3) \times SO(3)$ symmetry. These respectively describe $N=(1,0)$ conformal defects in $N=4$ CSM theories with $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ and $SO(3)\times SO(3) \times SO(3)$ symmetries. The latter give the first example of Janus solutions involving non-trivial $AdS_4$ vacua in addition to the trivial $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ critical point at the origin of the scalar manifold within the framework of $N=4$ gauged supergravity.

Supersymmetric solutions from N=5 gauged supergravity

We study a large class of supersymmetric solutions in four-dimensional $N=5$ gauged supergravity with $SO(5)$ gauge group. There is only one $N=5$ supersymmetric $AdS_4$ vacuum preserving the full $SO(5)$ symmetry dual to an $N=5$ SCFT in three dimensions. We give a number of domain walls interpolating between this $AdS_4$ fixed point and singular geometries in the IR with $SO(4)$ and $SO(3)$ symmetries. These solutions describe RG flows from the $N=5$ SCFT to non-conformal field theories driven by mass deformations. The $SO(4)$ solutions are precisely in agreement with the previously known mass deformations within the dual $N=5$ SCFT. We also find supersymmetric Janus solutions describing two-dimensional conformal defects in the $N=5$ SCFT with $N=(4,1)$ and $N=(1,1)$ supersymmetries on the defects. Finally, we study supersymmetric solutions of the form $AdS_2\times Σ^2$, with $Σ^2=S^2,H^2$ being a Riemann surface, corresponding to near horizon geometries of $AdS_4$ black holes. We consider both magnetic and dyonic solutions and find that there exists a class of magnetic $AdS_2\times H^2$ solutions with $SO(2)$ symmetry. It is rather remarkable that a complete analytic solution interpolating between $AdS_4$ and $AdS_2\times H^2$ with a running scalar can be obtained. The solution corresponds to a twisted compactification of $N=5$ SCFT to superconformal quantum mechanics. We also show that no purely magnetic or dyonic black holes with $AdS_2\times Σ^2$ horizon from $SO(2)\times SO(2)$ twist exist in $N=5$, $SO(5)$ gauged supergravity.

Supersymmetric solutions of 7D maximal gauged supergravity

We study a number of supersymmetric solutions in the form of $Mkw_3\times S^3$- and $AdS_3\times S^3$-sliced domain walls in the maximal gauged supergravity in seven dimensions. These solutions require non-vanishing three-form fluxes to support the $AdS_3$ and $S^3$ subspaces. We consider solutions with $SO(4)$, $SO(3)$, $SO(2)\times SO(2)$ and $SO(2)$ symmetries in $CSO(p,q,5-p-q)$, $CSO(p,q,4-p-q)$ and $SO(2,1)\ltimes \mathbf{R}^4$ gauge groups. All of these solutions can be analytically obtained. For $SO(5)$ and $CSO(4,0,1)$ gauge groups, the complete truncation ansatze in terms of eleven-dimensional supergravity on $S^4$ and type IIA theory on $S^3$ are known. We give the full uplifted solutions to eleven and ten dimensions in this case. The solutions with an $AdS_3\times S^3$ slice are interpreted as two-dimensional surface defects in six-dimensional $N=(2,0)$ superconformal field theory in the case of $SO(5)$ gauge group or $N=(2,0)$ nonconformal field theories for other gauge groups. For $SO(4)$ symmetric solutions, it is possible to find solutions with both the three-form fluxes and $SO(3)$ gauge fields turned on. However, in this case, the solutions can be found only numerically. For $SO(3)$ symmetric solutions, the three-form fluxes and $SO(3)$ gauge fields cannot be non-vanishing simultaneously.

Twisted compactifications of 6D field theories from maximal 7D gauged supergravity

We study supersymmetric $AdS_n\times Σ^{7-n}$, $n=2,3,4,5$ solutions in seven-dimensional maximal gauged supergravity with $CSO(p,q,5-p-q)$ and $CSO(p,q,4-p-q)$ gauge groups. These gauged supergravities are consistent truncations of eleven-dimensional supergravity and type IIB theory on $H^{p,q}\circ T^{5-p-q}$ and $H^{p,q}\circ T^{4-p-q}$, respectively. Apart from recovering the previously known $AdS_n\times Σ^{7-n}$ solutions in $SO(5)$ gauge group, we find novel classes of $AdS_5\times S^2$, $AdS_3\times S^2\times Σ^2$ and $AdS_3\times CP^2$ solutions in non-compact $SO(3,2)$ gauge group together with a class of $AdS_3\times CP^2$ solutions in $SO(4,1)$ gauge group. In $SO(5)$ gauge group, we extensively study holographic RG flow solutions interpolating from the $SO(5)$ supersymmetric $AdS_7$ vacuum to the $AdS_n\times Σ^{7-n}$ fixed points and singular geometries in the form of curved domain walls with $Mkw_{n-1}\times Σ^{7-n}$ slices. In many cases, the singularities are physically acceptable and can be interpreted as non-conformal phases of $(n-1)$-dimensional SCFTs obtained from twisted compactifications of $N=(2,0)$ SCFT in six dimensions. In $SO(3,2)$ and $SO(4,1)$ gauge groups, we give a large number of RG flows between the new $AdS_n\times Σ^{7-n}$ fixed points and curved domain walls while, in $CSO(p,q,4-p-q)$ gauge group, RG flows interpolating between asymptotically locally flat domain walls and curved domain walls are given.

3D supergravity from wrapped M5-branes

Through consistent Kaluza-Klein reduction, we construct 3D $\mathcal{N} =2$ gauged supergravities corresponding to twisted compactifications of M5-branes on a product of constant curvature Riemann surfaces, including Kähler-Einstein four-manifolds. We extend the reduction to fermionic supersymmetry variations in order to determine the 3D Killing spinor equations and classify all timelike supersymmetric solutions. As a by-product, we identify an infinite class of new supersymmetric warped $AdS_3$ (Gödel) and warped $d S_3$ solutions. Moreover, we show that the superpotential $T$ encodes the central charge and R symmetry of the dual $\mathcal{N} = (0,2)$ SCFTs in the large $N$ limit. We demonstrate that the R symmetry matches the canonical $U(1)$ isometry from existing classifications of supersymmetric $AdS_3$ solutions to 11D supergravity with $\mathcal{N} = (0,2)$ supersymmetry.

Gaugings of four-dimensional N=3 supergravity and AdS4/CFT3 holography

We study matter-coupled $N=3$ gauged supergravity in four dimensions with various semisimple gauge groups. When coupled to $n$ vector multiplets, the gauged supergravity contains $3+n$ vector fields and $3n$ complex scalars parametrized by $SU(3,n)/SU(3)\times SU(n)\times U(1)$ coset manifold. Semisimple gauge groups take the form of $G_0\times H\subset SO(3,n)\subset SU(3,n)$ with $H$ being a compact subgroup of $SO(n+3-\textrm{dim}(G_0))$. The $G_0$ groups considered in this paper are of the form $SO(3)$, $SO(3,1)$, $SO(2,2)$, $SL(3,\mathbb{R})$ and $SO(2,1)\times SO(2,2)$. We find that $SO(3)\times SO(3)$, $SO(3,1)$ and $SL(3,\mathbb{R})$ gauge groups admit a maximally supersymmetric $AdS_4$ critical point. The $SO(2,1)\times SO(2,2)$ gauge group admits a supersymmetric Minkowski vacuum while the remaining gauge groups admit both half-supersymmetric domain wall vacua and $AdS_4$ vacua with completely broken supersymmetry. For the $SO(3)\times SO(3)$ gauge group, there exists another supersymmetric $N=3$ $AdS_4$ critical point with $SO(3)_{\textrm{diag}}$ symmetry. We explicitly give a detailed study of various holographic RG flows between $AdS_4$ critical points, flows to non-conformal theories and supersymmetric domain walls in each gauge group. The results provide gravity duals of $N=3$ Chern-Simons-Matter theories in three dimensions.

Holographic RG flows in N=3 Chern-Simons-Matter theory from N=3 4D gauged supergravity

We study various supersymmetric RG flows of $N=3$ Chern-Simons-Matter theory in three dimensions by using four-dimensional $N=3$ gauged supergravity coupled to eight vector multiplets with $SO(3)\times SU(3)$ gauge group. The $AdS_4$ critical point preserving the full $SO(3)\times SU(3)$ provides a gravity dual of $N=3$ superconformal field theory with flavor symmetry $SU(3)$. We study the scalar potential and identify a new supersymmetric $AdS_4$ critical point preserving the full $N=3$ supersymmetry and unbroken $SO(3)\times U(1)$ symmetry. An analytic RG flow solution interpolating between $SO(3)\times SU(3)$ and $SO(3)\times U(1)$ critical points is explicitly given. We then investigate possible RG flows from these $AdS_4$ critical points to non-conformal field theories in the IR. All of the singularities appearing in the IR turn out to be physically acceptable. Furthermore, we look for supersymmetric solutions of the form $AdS_2\times Σ_2$ with $Σ_2$ being a two-sphere or a two-dimensional hyperbolic space and find a number of $AdS_2$ geometries preserving four supercharges with $SO(2)\times SO(2)\times SO(2)$ and $SO(2)\times SO(2)$ symmetries.

Supersymmetric Janus solutions in four-dimensional N=3 gauged supergravity

We construct supersymmetric Janus solutions using four-dimensional $N=3$ gauged supergravity with $SO(3)\times SU(3)$ gauge group. The $N=3$ supersymmetric $AdS_4$ vacuum with unbroken $SO(3)\times SU(3)$, identified with the compactification of eleven-dimensional supergravity on $AdS_4\times N^{010}$, provides a gravity dual of supersymmetric $N=3$ Chern-Simons-Matter theory in three dimensions with $SU(3)$ flavor symmetry. The Janus solutions accordingly describe supersymmetric conformal interfaces within this Chern-Simons-Matter theory via the AdS/CFT holography. We find two classes of Janus solutions preserving respectively $(2,1)$ and $(0,1)$ supersymmetry on the $(1+1)$-dimensional conformal defects. The solution with $(2,1)$ supersymmetry preserves $SO(2)\times SO(2)\times SO(2)\subset SO(3)\times SU(3)$ symmetry while the $(0,1)$ supersymmetric solution is invariant under a larger $SO(2)\times SU(2)\times SO(2)$ symmetry.

Holographic RG flows in six dimensional F(4) gauged supergravity

We study critical points of $F(4)$ gauged supergravity in six dimensions coupled to three vector multiplets. Scalar fields are described by $\mathbb{R}^+\times \frac{SO(4,3)}{SO(4)\times SO(3)}$ coset space, and the gauge group is given by $SO(3)_R\times SO(3)$ with $SO(3)_R$ being the R-symmetry. The maximally supersymmetric critical point with all scalars vanishing preserves the full $SO(3)_R\times SO(3)$ symmetry. This is dual to a superconformal field theories (SCFT$_5$) arising from a near horizon geometry of the D4-D8 brane system in type I$'$ theory with an enhanced global symmetry $E_1\sim SU(2)$. Apart from this trivial critical point, we identify a new supersymmetric critical point preserving the full supersymmetry with the $SO(3)_R\times SO(3)$ symmetry broken to its diagonal subgroup. This critical point should correspond to a new SCFT in five dimensions. We study an RG flow solution interpolating between the SCFT with $E_1$ symmetry and the new supersymmetric critical point. The flow describes a supersymmetric deformation driven by a vacuum expectation value of relevant operators of dimension $3$. We identify the dual operators with the mass terms for hypermultiplet scalars in the dual field theory. The solution provides an example of analytic supersymmetric RG flows in AdS$_6$/CFT$_5$ correspondence.

Noncompact gauging of N=2 7D supergravity and AdS/CFT holography

Half-maximal gauged supergravity in seven dimensions coupled to $n$ vector multiplets contains $n+3$ vectors and $3n+1$ scalars parametrized by $\mathbb{R}^+\times SO(3,n)/SO(3)\times SO(n)$ coset manifold. The two-form field in the gravity multiplet can be dualized to a three-form field which admits a topological mass term. Possible non-compact gauge groups take the form of $G_0\times H\subset SO(3,n)$ with a compact group $H$. $G_0$ is one of the five possibilities; $SO(3,1)$, $SL(3,\mathbb{R})$, $SO(2,2)$, $SO(2,1)$ and $SO(2,2)\times SO(2,1)$. We investigate all of these possible non-compact gauge groups and classify their vacua. Unlike the gauged supergravity without a topological mass term, there are new supersymmetric $AdS_7$ vacua in the $SO(3,1)$ and $SL(3,\mathbb{R})$ gaugings. These correspond to new $N=(1,0)$ superconformal field theories (SCFT) in six dimensions. Additionally, we find a class of $AdS_5\times S^2$ and $AdS_5\times H^2$ backgrounds with $SO(2)$ and $SO(2)\times SO(2)$ symmetries. These should correspond to $N=1$ SCFTs in four dimensions obtained from twisted compactifications of six-dimensional field theories on $S^2$ or $H^2$. We also study RG flows from six-dimensional $N=(1,0)$ SCFT to $N=1$ SCFT in four dimensions and RG flows from a four-dimensional $N=1$ SCFT to a six-dimensional SYM in the IR. The former are driven by a vacuum expectation value of a dimension-four operator dual to the supergravity dilaton while the latter are driven by vacuum expectation values of marginal operators.

RG flows from (1,0) 6D SCFTs to N=1 SCFTs in four and three dimensions

We study $AdS_5\times Σ_2$ and $AdS_4\times Σ_3$ solutions of $N=2$, $SO(4)$ gauged supergravity in seven dimensions with $Σ_{2,3}$ being $S^{2,3}$ or $H^{2,3}$. The $SO(4)$ gauged supergravity is obtained from coupling three vector multiplets to the pure $N=2$, $SU(2)$ gauged supergravity. With a topological mass term for the 3-form field, the $SO(4)\sim SU(2)\times SU(2)$ gauged supergravity admits two supersymmetric $AdS_7$ critical points, with $SO(4)$ and $SO(3)$ symmetries, provided that the two $SU(2)$ gauge couplings are different. These vacua correspond to $N=(1,0)$ superconformal field theories (SCFTs) in six dimensions. In the case of $Σ_2$, we find a class of $AdS_5\times S^2$ and $AdS_5\times H^2$ solutions preserving eight supercharges and $SO(2)\times SO(2)$ symmetry, but only $AdS_5\times H^2$ solutions exist for $SO(2)$ symmetry. These should correspond to some $N=1$ four-dimensional SCFTs. We also give RG flow solutions from the $N=(1,0)$ SCFTs in six dimensions to these four-dimensional fixed points including a two-step flow from the $SO(4)$ $N=(1,0)$ SCFT to the $SO(3)$ $N=(1,0)$ SCFT that eventually flows to the $N=1$ SCFT in four dimensions. For $AdS_4\timesΣ_3$, we find a class of $AdS_4\times S^3$ and $AdS_4\times H^3$ solutions with four supercharges, corresponding to $N=1$ SCFTs in three dimensions. When the two $SU(2)$ gauge couplings are equal, only $AdS_4\times H^3$ are possible. The uplifted solutions for equal $SU(2)$ gauge couplings to eleven dimensions are also given.

Supergravity dual of c-extremization

Recently a general principle, called c-extremization, which determines the exact R-symmetry of two-dimensional SCFTs with N = (0,2) supersymmetry was identified. In this note we show that the supergravity dual corresponds to the extremization of the T-tensor of N = 2 gauged supergravity in three-dimensions. To support this claim, we demonstrate that the expected central charge of SCFTs arising from twisted compactifications of four-dimensional N = 4 SYM on Riemann surfaces, whose gravity dual is a reduction of five-dimensional U(1)^3 gauged supergravity, is recovered in the three-dimensional framework.

Deformations of large N=(4,4) 2D SCFT from 3D gauged supergravity

Supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric deformations of large $N=(4,4)$ SCFT with superconformal symmetry $D^1(2,1;α)\times D^1(2,1;α)$ are explored in the gravity dual described by a Chern-Simons $N=8$, $(SO(4)\times SO(4))\ltimes \mathbf{T}^{12}$ gauged supergravity in three dimensions. For $α>0$, the gauged supergravity describes an effective theory of the maximal supergravity in nine dimensions on $AdS_3\times S^3\times S^3$ with the parameter $α$ being the ratio of the two $S^3$ radii. We consider the scalar manifold of the supergravity theory of the form $SO(8,8)/SO(8)\times SO(8)$ and find a number of stable non-supersymmetric $AdS_3$ critical points for some values of $α$. These correspond to non-supersymmetric IR fixed points of the UV $N=(4,4)$ SCFT dual to the maximally supersymmetric critical point. We study the associated RG flow solutions interpolating between these fixed points and the UV $N=(4,4)$ SCFT. Possible supersymmetric flows to non-conformal field theories are also investigated. Additionally, a half-supersymmetric domain wall within this gauged supergravity is obtained.

Gravity duals of 5D N=2 SYM from F(4) gauged supergravity

We study gravity duals of the minimal $N=2$ super Yang-Mills (SYM) gauge theories in five dimensions using the matter coupled $F(4)$ gauged supergravity in six dimensions. The $F(4)$ gauged supergravity coupled to $n$ vector multiplets contains $4n+1$ scalar fields, parametrized by $\mathbb{R}^+\times SO(4,n)/SO(4)\times SO(n)$ coset manifold. Maximally supersymmetric vacua of the gauged supergravity with $SU(2)\times G$ gauge group, with $G$ being an $n$-dimensional subgroup of $SO(n)$, correspond to five dimensional superconformal field theories (SCFTs) with $SU(2)_R$ R-symmetry and $G$ global symmetry. Deformations of the UV SCFTs for $G=SU(2)$ and $G=U(2)\sim SU(2)\times U(1)$ symmetries that lead to non-conformal $N=2$ SYM with various unbroken global symmetries are studied holographically.

New N=5,6, 3D gauged supergravities and holography

We study $N=5$ gauged supergravity in three dimensions with compact, non-compact and non-semisimple gauge groups. The theory under consideration is of Chern-Simons type with $USp(4,k)/USp(4)\times USp(k)$ scalar manifold. We classify possible semisimple gauge groups of the $k=2,4$ cases and identify some of their critical points. A number of supersymmetric $AdS_3$ critical points are found, and holographic RG flows interpolating between these critical points are also investigated. As one of our main results, we consider a non-semisimple gauge group $SO(5)\ltimes \mathbf{T}^{10}$ for the theory with $USp(4,4)/USp(4)\times USp(4)$ scalar manifold. The resulting theory describes $N=5$ gauged supergravity in four dimensions reduced on $S^1/\mathbb{Z}_2$ and admits a maximally supersymmetric $AdS_3$ critical point with $Osp(5|2,\mathbb{R})\times Sp(2,\mathbb{R})$ superconformal symmetry. We end the paper with the construction of $SO(6)\ltimes \mathbf{T}^{15}$ gauged supergravity with $N=6$ supersymmetry. The theory admits a half-supersymmetric domain wall as a vacuum solution and may be obtained from an $S^1/\mathbb{Z}_2$ reduction of $N=6$ gauged supergravity in four dimensions.

1/2-BPS Domain wall from N=10 three dimensional gauged supergravity

We explicitly construct $N=10$ Chern-Simons gaged supergravity in three dimensions with non-semisimple gauge group $SO(5)\ltimes \mathbf{T}^{10}$. The gauge group is embedded in $E_{6(-14)}$ which is the isometry group of the 32-dimensional scalar manifold $E_{6(-14)}/SO(10)\times U(1)$. The resulting theory is on-shell equivalent to $SO(5)$ Yang-Mills gauged supergravity coming from dimensional reduction on $S^1$ of $SO(5)$ $N=5$ gauged supergravity in four dimensions. We discuss the spectrum of the corresponding reduction. The $SO(5)\ltimes \mathbf{T}^{10}$ gauged supergravity, describing the reduced theory, admits a $\frac{1}{2}$-BPS domain wall vacuum solution whose explicit form is also given. This provides an example of a domain wall in non-maximal gauged supergravity.

3D Supergravity from wrapped D3-branes

AdS_3 solutions dual to N = (0,2) SCFTs arise when D3-branes wrap Kahler two-cycles in manifolds with SU(4) holonomy. Here we review known AdS_3 solutions and identify the corresponding three-dimensional gauged supergravities, solutions of which uplift to type IIB supergravity. In particular, we discuss gauged supergravities dual to twisted compactifications on Riemann surfaces of both N=4 SYM and N =1 SCFTs with Sasaki-Einstein duals. We check in each case that c-extremization gives the exact central charge and R symmetry. For completeness, we also study AdS_3 solutions from intersecting D3-branes, generalise recent KK reductions of Detournay & Guica and identify the underlying gauged supergravities. Finally, we discuss examples of null-warped AdS_3 solutions to three-dimensional gauged supergravity, all of which embed in string theory.

3D N=6 Gauged Supergravity: Admissible Gauge Groups, Vacua and RG Flows

We study N=6 gauged supergravity in three dimensions with scalar manifolds $\frac{SU(4,k)}{S(U(4)\times U(k))}$ for $k=1,2,3,4$ in great details. We classify some admissible non-compact gauge groups which can be consistently gauged and preserve all supersymmetries. We give the explicit form of the embedding tensors for these gauge groups as well as study their scalar potentials on the full scalar manifold for each value of $k=1,2,3,4$ along with the corresponding vacua. Furthermore, the potentials for the compact gauge groups, $SO(p)\times SO(6-p)\times SU(k)\times U(1)$ for $p=3,4,5,6$, identified previously in the literature are partially studied on a submanifold of the full scalar manifold. This submanifold is invariant under a certain subgroup of the corresponding gauge group. We find a number of supersymmetric AdS vacua in the case of compact gauge groups. We then consider holographic RG flow solutions in the compact gauge groups $SO(6)\times SU(4)\times U(1)$ and $SO(4)\times SO(2)\times SU(4)\times U(1)$ for the k=4 case. The solutions involving one active scalar can be found analytically and describe operator flows driven by a relevant operator of dimension 3/2. For non-compact gauge groups, we find all types of vacua namely AdS, Minkowski and dS, but there is no possibility of RG flows in the AdS/CFT sense for all gauge groups considered here.

Domain walls in three dimensional gauged supergravity

We explicitly construct two Chern-Simons gauged supergravities in three dimensions with N=4 and N=8 supersymmetries and non-semisimple gauge groups. The N=4 theory has scalar manifold $SO(4,3)/SO(4)\times SO(3)$ with the gauge group $SO(3)\ltimes (\mathbf{T}^3,\hat{\mathbf{T}}^3)$. The theory describes (1,0) six dimensional supergravity reduced on an SU(2) group manifold. The equivalent Yang-Mills type gauged supergravity has SO(3) gauge group coupled to three massive vector fields. The N=8 theory is described by $SO(8,8)/SO(8)\times SO(8)$ scalar manifold, and the gauge group is given by $SO(8)\ltimes \mathbf{T}^{28}$. The theory is a truncation of the $SO(8)\ltimes \mathbf{T}^{28}$ gauged N=16 theory with scalar manifold $E_{8(8)}/SO(16)$ and can be obtained by an S^7 compactification of type I theory in ten dimensions. Domain wall solutions of both gauged supergravities are analytically found and can be uplifted to higher dimensions. These provide domain wall vacua in the three dimensional gauged supergravity framework which might be useful for the study of Domain Wall$_3$/QFT$_2$ correspondence.

Gaugings of N=4 three dimensional gauged supergravity with exceptional coset manifolds

Some admissible gauge groups of N=4 Chern-Simons gauged supergravity in three dimensions with exceptional scalar manifolds $G_{2(2)}/SO(4)$, $F_{4(4)}/USp(6)\times SU(2)$, $E_{6(2)}/SU(6)\times SU(2)$, $E_{7(-5)}/SO(12)\times SU(2)$ and $E_{8(-24)}/E_7\times SU(2)$ are identified. In particular, a complete list of all possible gauge groups is given for the theory with $G_{2(2)}/SO(4)$ coset space. We also study scalar potentials for all of these gauge groups and find some critical points. In the case of $F_{4(4)}/USp(6)\times SU(2)$ target space, we give some semisimple gauge groups which are maximal subgroups of $F_{4(4)}$. Most importantly, we construct the $SO(4)\ltimes \mathbf{T}^6$ gauged supergravity which is equivalent to N=4 SO(4) Yang-Mills gauged supergravity. The latter is proposed to be obtained from an $S^3$ reduction of $(1,0)$ six dimensional supergravity coupled to two vector and two tensor multiplets. The scalar potential of this theory on the scalar fields which are invariant under SO(4) is explicitly computed. Depending on the value of the coupling constants, the theory admits both dS and AdS vacua when all of the 28 scalars vanish. The maximal N=4 supersymmetric $AdS_3$ should correspond to the $AdS_3\times S^3$ solution of the $(1,0)$ six dimensional theory. Finally, some gauge groups of the theories with $E_{6(2)}/SU(6)\times SU(2)$, $E_{7(-5)}/SO(12)\times SU(2)$ and $E_{8(-24)}/E_7\times SU(2)$ scalar manifolds are identified.

AdS$_3$ vacua and RG flows in three dimensional gauged supergravities

We study $AdS_3$ supersymmetric vacua in N=4 and N=8, three dimensional gauged supergravities, with scalar manifolds $(\frac{SO(4,4)}{SO(4)\times SO(4)})^2$ and $\frac{SO(8,8)}{SO(8)\times SO(8)}$, non-semisimple Chern-Simons gaugings $SO(4)\ltimes {\bf R}^6$ and $(SO(4)\ltimes {\bf R}^6)^2$, respectively. These are in turn equivalent to SO(4) and $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ Yang-Mills theories coupled to supergravity. For the N=4 case, we study renormalization group flows between UV and IR $AdS_3$ vacua with the same amount of supersymmetry: in one case, with (3,1) supersymmetry, we can find an analytic solution whereas in another, with (2,0) supersymmetry, we give a numerical solution. In both cases, the flows turn out to be v.e.v. flows, i.e. they are driven by the expectation value of a relevant operator in the dual $SCFT_2$. These provide examples of v.e.v. flows between two $AdS_3$ vacua within a gauged supergravity framework.

Gravitational and Yang-Mills instantons in holographic RG flows

We study various holographic RG flow solutions involving warped asymptotically locally Euclidean (ALE) spaces of $A_{N-1}$ type. A two-dimensional RG flow from a UV (2,0) CFT to a (4,0) CFT in the IR is found in the context of (1,0) six dimensional supergravity, interpolating between $AdS_3\times S^3/\mathbb{Z}_N$ and $AdS_3\times S^3$ geometries. We also find solutions involving non trivial gauge fields in the form of SU(2) Yang-Mills instantons on ALE spaces. Both flows are of vev type, driven by a vacuum expectation value of a marginal operator. RG flows in four dimensional field theories are studied in the type IIB and type I$'$ context. In type IIB theory, the flow interpolates between $AdS_5\times S^5/\mathbb{Z}_N$ and $AdS_5\times S^5$ geometries. The field theory interpretation is that of an N=2 $SU(n)^N$ quiver gauge theory flowing to N=4 SU(n) gauge theory. In type I$'$ theory the solution describes an RG flow from N=2 quiver gauge theory with a product gauge group to N=2 gauge theory in the IR, with gauge group $USp(n)$. The corresponding geometries are $AdS_5\times S^5/(\mathbb{Z}_N\times \mathbb{Z}_2)$ and $AdS_5\times S^5/\mathbb{Z}_2$, respectively. We also explore more general RG flows, in which both the UV and IR CFTs are N=2 quiver gauge theories and the corresponding geometries are $AdS_5\times S^5/(\mathbb{Z}_N\times \mathbb{Z}_2)$ and $AdS_5\times S^5/(\mathbb{Z}_M\times \mathbb{Z}_2)$. Finally, we discuss the matching between the geometric and field theoretic pictures of the flows.

Two dimensional RG flows and Yang-Mills instantons

We study RG flow solutions in (1,0) six dimensional supergravity coupled to an anti-symmetric tensor and Yang-Mills multiplets corresponding to a semisimple group $G$. We turn on $G$ instanton gauge fields, with instanton number $N$, in the conformally flat part of the 6D metric. The solution interpolates between two (4,0) supersymmetric $AdS_3\times S^3$ backgrounds with two different values of $AdS_3$ and $S^3$ radii and describes an RG flow in the dual 2D SCFT. For the single instanton case and $G=SU(2)$, there exist a consistent reduction ansatz to three dimensions, and the solution in this case can be interpreted as an uplifted 3D solution. Correspondingly, we present the solution in the framework of N=4 $(SU(2)\ltimes \mathbf{R}^3)^2$ three dimensional gauged supergravity. The flows studied here are of v.e.v. type, driven by a vacuum expectation value of a (not exactly) marginal operator of dimension two in the UV. We give an interpretation of the supergravity solution in terms of the D1/D5 system in type I string theory on K3, whose effective field theory is expected to flow to a (4,0) SCFT in the infrared.

Vacua of N=10 three dimensional gauged supergravity

We study scalar potentials and the corresponding vacua of N=10 three dimensional gauged supergravity. The theory contains 32 scalar fields parametrizing the exceptional coset space $\frac{E_{6(-14)}}{SO(10)\times U(1)}$. The admissible gauge groups considered in this work involve both compact and non-compact gauge groups which are maximal subgroups of $SO(10)\times U(1)$ and $E_{6(-14)}$, respectively. These gauge groups are given by $SO(p)\times SO(10-p)\times U(1)$ for $p=6,...10$, $SO(5)\times SO(5)$, $SU(4,2)\times SU(2)$, $G_{2(-14)}\times SU(2,1)$ and $F_{4(-20)}$. We find many AdS$_3$ critical points with various unbroken gauge symmetries. The relevant background isometries associated to the maximally supersymmetric critical points at which all scalars vanish are also given. These correspond to the superconformal symmetries of the dual conformal field theories in two dimensions.

3D gauged supergravity from SU(2) reduction of $N=1$ 6D supergravity

We obtain Yang-Mills $SU(2)\times G$ gauged supergravity in three dimensions from $SU(2)$ group manifold reduction of (1,0) six dimensional supergravity coupled to an anti-symmetric tensor multiplet and gauge vector multiplets in the adjoint of $G$. The reduced theory is consistently truncated to $N=4$ 3D supergravity coupled to $4(1+\textrm{dim}\, G)$ bosonic and $4(1+\textrm{dim}\, G)$ fermionic propagating degrees of freedom. This is in contrast to the reduction in which there are also massive vector fields. The scalar manifold is $\mathbf{R}\times \frac{SO(3,\, \textrm{dim}\, G)}{SO(3)\times SO(\textrm{dim}\, G)}$, and there is a $SU(2)\times G$ gauge group. We then construct $N=4$ Chern-Simons $(SO(3)\ltimes \mathbf{R}^3)\times (G\ltimes \mathbf{R}^{\textrm{dim}G})$ three dimensional gauged supergravity with scalar manifold $\frac{SO(4,\,1+\textrm{dim}G)}{SO(4)\times SO(1+\textrm{dim}G)}$ and explicitly show that this theory is on-shell equivalent to the Yang-Mills $SO(3)\times G$ gauged supergravity theory obtained from the $SU(2)$ reduction, after integrating out the scalars and gauge fields corresponding to the translational symmetries $\mathbf{R}^3\times \mathbf{R}^{\textrm{dim}\, G}$.

Vacua and RG flows in N=9 three dimensional gauged supergravity

We study some vacua of N=9 three dimensional gauged supergravity. The theory contains sixteen scalar fields parametrizing the exceptional coset space ${F_{4(-20)}}{SO(9)}$. Various AdS supersymmetric and some non-supersymmetric vacua are found in both compact and non-compact gaugings with gauge groups $SO(p)\times SO(9-p)$ for $p=0, 1, 2, 3, 4$, $G_{2(-14)}\times SL(2)$ and $Sp(1,2)\times SU(2)$. We also study many RG flow solutions, both analytic and numerical, interpolating between supersymmetric critical points in this theory. All the flows considered here are driven by a relevant operator of dimension $Δ={3}{2}$. This operator breaks conformal symmetry as well as supersymmetry and drives the CFT in the UV to another CFT in the IR with lower supersymmetries.
