Historic wandering domains near cycles

We explain how to obtain non-trivial historic contractive wandering domains for a dense set of diffeomorphisms in certain type of $C^r$-Newhouse domains of homoclinic tangencies in dimension $d\geq 3$ and $r\geq 1$. In particular, this gives for the first time a contribution to Takens' last problem in the $C^1$ topology and in dimension $d>2$. We show how these Newhouse domains can be obtained arbitrarily close to diffeomorphisms exhibiting heterodimensional cycles (in dimension $d=3$) or non-transverse equidimensional cycles (in any dimension $d\ge 3$) associated with periodic points with non-real complex leading multipliers.

Typical coexistence of infinitely many strange attractors

We prove that the coexistence of infinitely many prevalent Hénon-like phenomena is Kolmogorov typical in sectional dissipative $C^{d,r}$-Berger domains of parameter families of diffeomorphisms of dimension $m\geq 3$ for $d<r-1$. Namely, we answer an old question posed by Colli in [Annales de l'Institut Henri Poincare-Nonlinear Analysis, 15, 539--580 (1998)] on typicality of the coexistence of infinitely many non-hyperbolic strange attractors for $3\leq d<r-1$.

Berger domains and Kolmogorov typicality of infinitely many invariant circles

Using the novel notion of parablender, P. Berger proved that the existence of finitely many attractors is not Kolmogorov typical in parametric families of diffeomorphisms. Here, motivated by the concept of Newhouse domains we define Berger domains for families of diffeomorphisms. As an application, we show that the coexistence of infinitely many attracting invariant smooth circles is Kolmogorov typical in certain non-sectionally dissipative Berger domains of parametric families in dimension three or greater.

Extremal exponents of random products of conservative diffeomorphisms

We show that for a $C^1$-open and $C^{r}$-dense subset of the set of ergodic iterated function systems of conservative diffeomorphisms of a finite-volume manifold of dimension $d\geq 2$, the extremal Lyapunov exponents do not vanish. In particular, the set of non-uniform hyperbolic systems contains a $C^1$-open and $C^r$-dense subset of ergodic random products of i.i.d. conservative surface diffeomorphisms.

Robust degenerate unfoldings of cycles and tangencies

We construct open sets of degenerate unfoldings of heterodimensional cycles of any co-index $c>0$ and homoclinic tangencies of arbitrary codimension $c>0$. These sets are known to be the support of unexpected phenomena in families of diffeomorphisms, such as the Kolmogorov typical co-existence of infinitely many attractors. As a prerequisite we also construct robust homoclinic tangencies of large codimension which cannot be inside a strong partially hyperbolic set.

Density of fiberwise orbits in minimal iterated function systems on the circle

We study the minimality of almost every orbital branch of minimal iterated function systems (IFSs). We prove that this kind of minimality holds for forward and backward minimal IFSs generated by orientation-preserving homeomorphisms of the circle. We provide new examples of iterated functions systems where this behavior persists under perturbation of the generators.

Dynamics of iterated function systems on the circle close to rotations

We study the dynamics of iteration function systems generated by a pair of circle diffeomorphisms close to rotations in the $C^{1+\mathrm{bv}}$-topology. We characterize the obstruction to minimality and describe the limit set. In particular, there are no invariant minimal Cantor sets, which can be seen as a Denjoy/Duminy type theorem for iterated systems on the circle.

Heteroclinic cycles arising in generic unfoldings of nilpotent singularities

In this paper we study the existence of heteroclinic cycles in generic unfoldings of nilpotent singularities. Namely we prove that any nilpotent singularity of codimension four in $\mathbb{R}^4$ unfolds generically a bifurcation hypersurface of bifocal homoclinic orbits, that is, homoclinic orbits to equilibrium points with two pairs of complex eigenvalues. We also prove that any nilpotent singularity of codimension three in $\mathbb{R}^3$ unfolds generically a bifurcation curve of heteroclinic cycles between two saddle-focus equilibrium points with different stability indexes. Under generic assumptions these cycles imply the existence of homoclinic bifurcations. Homoclinic orbits to equilibrium points with complex eigenvalues are the simplest configurations which can explain the existence of complex dynamics as, for instance, strange attractors. The proof of the arising of these dynamics from a singularity is a very useful tool, particularly for applications.

Symbolic blender-horseshoes and applications

We study partially-hyperbolic skew-product maps over the Bernoulli shift with Hölder dependence on the base points. In the case of contracting fiber maps, symbolic blender-horseshoe is defined as an invariant set which meets any almost horizontal disk in a robust sense. These invariant sets are understood as blenders with center stable bundle of any dimension. We then give necessary conditions (covering property) on an iterated function system such that the relevant skew-product has a symbolic blender-horseshoe. We use this local plug to yield robustly non-hyperbolic transitive diffeomorphisms and robust heterodimensional cycles of co-index equal to the dimension of the central direction.
