Nuclear shape transitions and elastic magnetic electron scattering

Backward elastic electron scattering from odd-A nuclear targets is characterized by magnetic form factors containing precise information on the nuclear structure. We study the sensitivity of the magnetic form factors to structural effects related to the evolution and shape transitions in both isotopic and isotonic chains. Calculations of magnetic form factors are performed in the plane-wave Born approximation. The nuclear structure is obtained from a deformed self-consistent mean-field calculation based on a Skyrme HF+BCS formalism. Collective effects are included in the cranking approximation, whereas nucleon-nucleon correlations are taken into account in the coherent density fluctuation model. The evolution of the magnetic form factors is found to exhibit signatures of shape transitions that show up in selected isotopic and isotonic chains involving both stable and unstable nuclei. Several cases are identified as suitable candidates for showing such fingerprints of shape transitions. A new generation of electron scattering experiments involving electron-radioactive beam colliders will be available in the near future, leading to a renewed interest in this field.

Symmetry energy properties of neutron-rich nuclei from the coherent density fluctuation model applied to nuclear matter calculations with Bonn potentials

We derive the values of nuclear symmetry energy, its components, as well as pressure in finite nuclei at saturation density from their corresponding values in nuclear matter obtained in non-relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock calculations with the realistic Bonn B and Bonn CD potentials using the coherent density fluctuation model in the framework of a self-consistent Skyrme-Hartree-Fock plus BCS method. We focus on three isotopic chains of spherical nuclei (Ni, Sn, and Pb) and compare our results with those obtained with an effective Brueckner density-dependent potential. The role of the three-body forces on the considered quantities is also studied and discussed.

Volume and surface contributions to the nuclear symmetry energy within the coherent density fluctuation model

The volume and surface components of the nuclear symmetry energy (NSE) and their ratio are calculated within the coherent density fluctuation model (CDFM). The estimations use the results of the model for the NSE in finite nuclei based on the Brueckner energy-density functional for nuclear matter. In addition, we present results for the NSE and its volume and surface contributions obtained by using the Skyrme energy-density functional. The CDFM weight function is obtained using the proton and neutron densities from the self-consistent HF+BCS method with Skyrme interactions. We present and discuss the values of the volume and surface contributions to the NSE and their ratio obtained for the Ni, Sn, and Pb isotopic chains studying their isotopic sensitivity. The results are compared with estimations of other approaches which have used available experimental data on binding energies, neutron-skin thicknesses, excitation energies to isobaric analog states (IAS) and also with results of other theoretical methods.

Beta-decay properties of neutron-rich Ge, Se, Kr, Sr, Ru, and Pd isotopes from deformed quasiparticle random-phase approximation

Beta-decay properties of even and odd-A neutron-rich Ge, Se, Kr, Sr, Ru, and Pd isotopes involved in the astrophysical rapid neutron capture process are studied within a deformed proton-neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation. The underlying mean field is described self-consistently from deformed Skyrme Hartree-Fock calculations with pairing correlations. Residual interactions in the particle-hole and particle-particle channels are also included in the formalism. The isotopic evolution of the various nuclear equilibrium shapes and the corresponding charge radii are investigated in all the isotopic chains. The energy distributions of the Gamow-Teller strength as well as the beta-decay half-lives are discussed and compared with the available experimental information. It is shown that nuclear deformation plays a significant role in the description of the decay properties in this mass region. Reliable predictions of the strength distributions are essential to evaluate decay rates in astrophysical scenarios.

Effects of deformation on the beta-decay patterns of light even-even and odd-mass Hg and Pt isotopes

Bulk and decay properties, including deformation energy curves, charge mean square radii, Gamow-Teller (GT) strength distributions, and beta-decay half-lives, are studied in neutron-deficient even-even and odd-A Hg and Pt isotopes. The nuclear structure is described microscopically from deformed quasiparticle random-phase approximation calculations with residual interactions in both particle-hole and particle-particle channels, performed on top of a self-consistent deformed quasiparticle Skyrme Hartree-Fock basis. The observed sensitivity of the, not yet measured, GT strength distributions to deformation is proposed as an additional complementary signature of the nuclear shape. The $β$-decay half-lives resulting from these distributions are compared to experiment to demonstrate the ability of the method.

Shapes of the $^{192,190}$Pb ground states from beta decay studies using the total absorption technique

The beta decay of $^{192,190}$Pb has been studied using the total absorption technique at the ISOLDE(CERN) facility. The beta-decay strength deduced from the measurements, combined with QRPA theoretical calculations, allow us to infer that the ground states of the $^{192,190}$Pb isotopes are spherical. These results represent the first application of the shape determination method using the total absorption technique for heavy nuclei and in a region where there is considerable interest in nuclear shapes and shape effects.

Gamow-Teller response in deformed even and odd neutron-rich Zr and Mo isotopes

Beta-decay properties of neutron-rich Zr and Mo isotopes are investigated within a microscopic theoretical approach based on the proton-neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation. The underlying mean field is described self-consistently from deformed Skyrme Hartree-Fock calculations with pairing correlations. Residual separable particle-hole and particle-particle forces are also included in the formalism. The structural evolution in these isotopic chains including both even and odd isotopes is analyzed in terms of the equilibrium deformed shapes. Gamow-Teller strength distributions, beta-decay half-lives, and beta-delayed neutron-emission probabilities are studied, stressing their relevance to describe the path of the nucleosynthesis rapid neutron capture process.

Ground-state properties and symmetry energy of neutron-rich and neutron-deficient Mg isotopes

A comprehensive study of various ground-state properties of neutron-rich and neutron-deficient Mg isotopes with $A$=20-36 is performed in the framework of the self-consistent deformed Skyrme-Hartree-Fock plus BCS method. The correlation between the skin thickness and the characteristics related with the density dependence of the nuclear symmetry energy is investigated for this isotopic chain following the theoretical approach based on the coherent density fluctuation model and using the Brueckner energy-density functional. The results of the calculations show that the behavior of the nuclear charge radii and the nuclear symmetry energy in the Mg isotopic chain is closely related to the nuclear deformation. We also study, within our theoretical scheme, the emergence of an "island of inversion" at neutron-rich $^{32}$Mg nucleus, that was recently proposed from the analyses of spectroscopic measurements of $^{32}$Mg low-lying energy spectrum and the charge rms radii of all magnesium isotopes in the $sd$ shell.

Nuclear astrophysics with radioactive ions at FAIR

The nucleosynthesis of elements beyond iron is dominated by neutron captures in the s and r processes. However, 32 stable, proton-rich isotopes cannot be formed during those processes, because they are shielded from the s-process flow and r-process beta-decay chains. These nuclei are attributed to the p and rp process. For all those processes, current research in nuclear astrophysics addresses the need for more precise reaction data involving radioactive isotopes. Depending on the particular reaction, direct or inverse kinematics, forward or time-reversed direction are investigated to determine or at least to constrain the desired reaction cross sections. The Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) will offer unique, unprecedented opportunities to investigate many of the important reactions. The high yield of radioactive isotopes, even far away from the valley of stability, allows the investigation of isotopes involved in processes as exotic as the r or rp processes.

Stellar electron-capture rates in pf-shell nuclei from quasiparticle random-phase approximation calculations

Electron-capture rates at different density and temperature conditions are evaluated for a set of pf-shell nuclei representative of the constituents in presupernova formations. The nuclear structure part of the problem is described within a quasiparticle random-phase approximation based on a deformed Skyrme Hartree-Fock selfconsistent mean field with pairing correlations and residual interactions in particle-hole and particle-particle channels. The energy distributions of the Gamow-Teller strength are evaluated and compared to benchmark shell-model calculations and experimental data extracted from charge-exchange reactions. The model dependence of the weak rates are discussed and the various sensitivities to both density and temperature are analyzed.

Deformation effects on the Gamow-Teller strength distributions in the double-beta decay partners 76Ge and 76Se

A theoretical approach based on a deformed quasiparticle random phase approximation built on a Skyrme selfconsistent mean field is used to describe the recent measurements of the Gamow-Teller GT- strength distribution extracted from the charge-exchange reaction 76Ge(3He,t)76As with high energy resolution. The same analysis is made to describe the Gamow-Teller GT+ strength distribution measured in the 76Se(d,2He)76As reaction. Combining these two branches, the nuclear matrix element for the two-neutrino double-beta decay process is evaluated and compared to experiment. The role of the nuclear deformation on those processes is emphasized and analyzed.

Microscopic description of quadrupole-octupole coupling in Sm and Gd isotopes with the Gogny Energy Density Functional

The interplay between the collective dynamics of the quadrupole and octupole deformation degree of freedom is discussed in a series of Sm and Gd isotopes both at the mean field level and beyond, including parity symmetry restoration and configuration mixing. Physical properties like negative parity excitation energies, E1 and E3 transition probabilities are discussed and compared to experimental data. Other relevant intrinsic quantities like dipole moments, ground state quadrupole moments or correlation energies associated to symmetry restoration and configuration mixing are discussed. For the considered isotopes, the quadrupole-octupole coupling is found to be weak and most of the properties of negative parity states can be described in terms of the octupole degree of freedom alone.

Symmetry energy of deformed neutron-rich nuclei

The symmetry energy, the neutron pressure and the asymmetric compressibility of deformed neutron-rich even-even nuclei are calculated on the examples of Kr and Sm isotopes within the coherent density fluctuation model using the symmetry energy as a function of density within the Brueckner energy-density functional. The correlation between the thickness of the neutron skin and the characteristics related with the density dependence of the nuclear symmetry energy is investigated for isotopic chains of these nuclei in the framework of the self-consistent Skyrme-Hartree-Fock plus BCS method. Results for an extended chain of Pb isotopes are also presented. A remarkable difference is found in the trend followed by the different isotopic chains: the studied correlations reveal a smoother behavior in the Pb case than in the other cases. We also notice that the neutron skin thickness obtained for $^{208}$Pb with SLy4 force is found to be in a good agreement with recent data.

Collective structural evolution in neutron-rich Yb, Hf, W, Os and Pt isotopes

An interacting boson model Hamiltonian determined from Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculations with the new microscopic Gogny energy density functional D1M, is applied to the spectroscopic analysis of neutron-rich Yb, Hf, W, Os and Pt isotopes with mass $A\sim 180-200$. Excitation energies and transition rates for the relevant low-lying quadrupole collective states are calculated by this method. Transitions from prolate to oblate ground-state shapes are analyzed as a function of neutron number $N$ in a given isotopic chain by calculating excitation energies, $B$(E2) ratios, and correlation energies in the ground state. It is shown that such transitions tend to occur more rapidly for the isotopes with lower proton number $Z$, when departing from the proton shell closure Z=82. The triaxial degrees of freedom turn out to play an important role in describing the considered mass region. Predicted low-lying spectra for the neutron-rich exotic Hf and Yb isotopes are presented. The approximations used in the model and the possibilities to refine its predictive power are addressed.

Shape evolution in Yttrium and Niobium neutron-rich isotopes

The isotopic evolution of the ground-state nuclear shapes and the systematics of one-quasiproton configurations are studied in neutron-rich odd-A Yttrium and Niobium isotopes. We use a selfconsistent Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov formalism based on the Gogny energy density functional with two parametrizations, D1S and D1M. The equal filling approximation is used to describe odd-A nuclei preserving both axial and time reversal symmetries. Shape-transition signatures are identified in the N=60 isotopes in both charge radii and spin-parities of the ground states. These signatures are a common characteristic for nuclei in the whole mass region. The nuclear deformation and shape coexistence inherent to this mass region are shown to play a relevant role in the understanding of the spectroscopic features of the ground and low-lying one-quasiproton states. Finally, a global picture of the neutron-rich A=100 mass region from Krypton up to Molybdenum isotopes is illustrated with the systematics of the nuclear charge radii isotopic shifts.

Spectroscopic calculations of the low-lying structure in exotic Os and W isotopes

Structural evolution in neutron-rich Os and W isotopes is investigated in terms of the Interacting Boson Model (IBM) Hamiltonian determined by (constrained) Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) calculations with the Gogny-D1S Energy Density Functional (EDF). The interaction strengths of the IBM Hamiltonian are produced by mapping the potential energy surface (PES) of the Gogny-EDF with quadrupole degrees of freedom onto the corresponding PES of the IBM system. We examine the prolate-to-oblate shape/phase transition which is predicted to take place in this region as a function of neutron number $N$ within the considered Os and W isotopic chains. The onset of this transition is found to be more rapid compared to the neighboring Pt isotopes. The calculations also allow prediction of spectroscopic variables (excited state energies and reduced transition probabilities) which are presented for the neutron-rich $^{192,194,196}$W nuclei, for which there is only very limited experimental data available to date.

Stellar weak decay rates in neutron-deficient medium-mass nuclei

Weak decay rates under stellar density and temperature conditions holding at the rapid proton capture process are studied in neutron-deficient medium-mass waiting point nuclei extending from Ni up to Sn. Neighboring isotopes to these waiting point nuclei are also included in the analysis. The nuclear structure part of the problem is described within a deformed Skyrme Hartree-Fock + BCS + QRPA approach, which reproduces not only the beta-decay half-lives but also the available Gamow-Teller strength distributions, measured under terrestrial conditions. The various sensitivities of the decay rates to both density and temperature are discussed. In particular, we study the impact of contributions coming from thermally populated excited states in the parent nucleus, as well as the competition between beta decays and continuum electron captures.

Surface properties of neutron-rich exotic nuclei: A source for studying the nuclear symmetry energy

We study the correlation between the thickness of the neutron skin in finite nuclei and the nuclear symmetry energy for isotopic chains of even-even Ni, Sn, and Pb nuclei in the framework of the deformed self-consistent mean-field Skyrme HF+BCS method. The symmetry energy, the neutron pressure and the asymmetric compressibility in finite nuclei are calculated within the coherent density fluctuation model using the symmetry energy as a function of density within the Brueckner energy-density functional. The mass dependence of the nuclear symmetry energy and the neutron skin thickness are also studied together with the role of the neutron-proton asymmetry. A correlation between the parameters of the equation of state (symmetry energy and its density slope) and the neutron skin is suggested in the isotopic chains of Ni, Sn, and Pb nuclei.

Beta-decay properties of Zr and Mo neutron-rich isotopes

Gamow-Teller strength distributions, beta-decay half-lives, and beta-delayed neutron emission are investigated in neutron-rich Zr and Mo isotopes within a deformed quasiparticle random-phase approximation. The approach is based on a self-consistent Skyrme Hartree-Fock mean field with pairing correlations and residual separable particle-hole and particle-particle forces. Comparison with recent measurements of half-lives stresses the important role that nuclear deformation plays in the description of beta-decay properties in this mass region.

Charge radii and structural evolution in Sr, Zr, and Mo isotopes

The evolution of the ground-state nuclear shapes in neutron-rich Sr, Zr, and Mo isotopes, including both even-even and odd-A nuclei, is studied within a self-consistent mean-field approximation based on the D1S Gogny interaction. Neutron separation energies and charge radii are calculated and compared with available data. A correlation between a shape transition and a discontinuity in those observables is found microscopically. While in Sr and Zr isotopes the steep behavior observed in the isotopic dependence of the charge radii is a consequence of a sharp prolate-oblate transition, the smooth behavior found in Mo isotopes has its origin in an emergent region of triaxiality.

Mean field study of structural changes in Pt isotopes with the Gogny interaction

The evolution of the nuclear shapes along the triaxial landscape is studied in the Pt isotopic chain using the selfconsistent Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov approximation based on the Gogny interaction. In addition to the parametrization D1S, the new incarnations D1N and D1M of this force are also included in our analysis to asses to which extent the predictions are independent of details of the effective interaction. The considered range of neutron numbers 88<N<26 includes prolate, triaxial, oblate and spherical ground state shapes and serves for a detailed comparison of the predictions obtained with the new sets D1N and D1M against the ones provided by the standard parametrization Gogny-D1S in a region of the nuclear landscape for which experimental and theoretical fingerprints of shape transitions have been found. Structural evolution along the Pt chain is discussed in terms of the deformation dependence of single particle energies.

Relativistic description of 3He(e,e'p)2H

The Relativistic Distorted-Wave Impulse Approximation is used to describe the $^3$He($e,e^\prime p$)$^2$H process. We describe the $^3$He nucleus within the adiabatic hyperspherical expansion method with realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions. The overlap between the $^3$He and the deuteron wave functions can be accurately computed from a three-body calculation. The nucleons are described by solutions of the Dirac equation with scalar and vector (S-V) potentials. The wave function of the outgoing proton is obtained by solving the Dirac equation with a S-V optical potential fitted to elastic proton scattering data on the residual nucleus. Within this theoretical framework, we compute the cross section of the reaction and other observables like the transverse-longitudinal asymmetry, and compare them with the available experimental data measured at JLab.

Signatures of shape transition in odd-A neutron-rich Rubidium isotopes

The isotopic evolution of the ground-state nuclear shapes and the systematics of one-quasiproton configurations are studied in odd-A Rubidium isotopes. We use a selfconsistent Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov formalism based on the Gogny energy density functional with two parametrizations, D1S and D1M, and implemented with the equal filling approximation. We find clear signatures of a sharp shape transition at N=60 in both charge radii and spin-parity of the ground states, which are robust, consistent to each other, and in agreement with experiment. We point out that the combined analysis of these two observables could be used to predict unambiguously new regions where shape transitions might develop.

Structural evolution in Pt isotopes with the Interacting Boson Model Hamiltonian derived from the Gogny Energy Density Functional

Spectroscopic calculations are carried out, for the description of the shape/phase transition in Pt nuclei in terms of the Interacting Boson Model (IBM) Hamiltonian derived from (constrained) Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) calculations with the finite range and density dependent Gogny-D1S Energy Density Functional. Assuming that the many-nucleon driven dynamics of nuclear surface deformation can be simulated by effective bosonic degrees of freedom, the Gogny-D1S potential energy surface (PES) with quadrupole degrees of freedom is mapped onto the corresponding PES of the IBM. Using this mapping procedure, the parameters of the IBM Hamiltonian, relevant to the low-lying quadrupole collective states, are derived as functions of the number of valence nucleons. Merits of both Gogny-HFB and IBM approaches are utilized so that the spectra and the wave functions in the laboratory system are calculated precisely. The experimental low-lying spectra of both ground-state and side-band levels are well reproduced. From the systematics of the calculated spectra and the reduced E2 transition probabilities $B$(E2), the prolate-to-oblate shape/phase transition is shown to take place quite smoothly as a function of neutron number $N$ in the considered Pt isotopic chain, for which the $γ$-softness plays an essential role. All these spectroscopic observables behave consistently with the relevant PESs and the derived parameters of the IBM Hamiltonian as functions of $N$. Spectroscopic predictions are also made for those nuclei which do not have enough experimental E2 data.

Systematics of one-quasiparticle configurations in neutron-rich Sr, Zr, and Mo odd isotopes with the Gogny energy density functional

The systematics of one-quasiparticle configurations in neutron-rich Sr, Zr, and Mo odd isotopes is studied within the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov plus Equal Filling Approximation method preserving both axial and time reversal symmetries. Calculations based on the Gogny energy density functional with both the standard D1S parametrization and the new D1M incarnation of this functional are included in our analysis. The nuclear deformation and shape coexistence inherent to this mass region are shown to play a relevant role in the understanding of the spectroscopic features of the ground and low-lying one-quasineutron states.

Theoretical mean field and experimental occupation probabilities in the double beta decay system 76Ge to 76Se

Usual Woods-Saxon single particle levels with BCS pairing are not able to reproduce the experimental occupation probabilities of the proton and neutron levels 1p_{3/2}, 1p_{1/2}, 0f_{5/2}, 0g_{9/2} in the double-beta decay system 76Ge to 76Se. Shifting down the 0g_{9/2} level by hand can explain the data but it is not satisfactory. Here it is shown that a selfconsistent Hartree-Fock+BCS approach with experimental deformations for 76Ge and 76Se may decisively improve the agreement with the recent data on occupation probabilities by Schiffer et al. and Kay et al. Best agreement with available data on 76Ge and 76Se, as well as on neighbor isotopes, is obtained when the spin-orbit strength for neutrons is allowed to be larger than that for protons. The two-neutrino double-beta decay matrix element is also shown to agree with data.

Momentum distributions in medium and heavy exotic nuclei

We study nucleon momentum distributions of even-even isotopes of Ni, Kr, and Sn in the framework of deformed self-consistent mean-field Skyrme HF+BCS method, as well as of theoretical correlation methods based on light-front dynamics and local density approximation. The isotopic sensitivities of the calculated neutron and proton momentum distributions are investigated together with the effects of pairing and nucleon-nucleon correlations. The role of deformation on the momentum distributions in even-even Kr isotopes is discussed. For comparison, the results for the momentum distribution in nuclear matter are also presented.

Weak interaction rates for Kr and Sr waiting-point nuclei under rp-process conditions

Weak interaction rates are studied in neutron deficient Kr and Sr waiting-point isotopes in ranges of densities and temperatures relevant for the rp-process. The nuclear structure is described within a microscopic model (deformed QRPA) that reproduces not only the half-lives but also the Gamow-Teller strength distributions recently measured. The various sensitivities of the decay rates to both density and temperature are discussed. Continuum electron capture is shown to contribute significantly to the weak rates at rp-process conditions.

Scaling Functions and Superscaling in Medium and Heavy Nuclei

The scaling function $f(ψ')$ for medium and heavy nuclei with $Z\neq N$ for which the proton and neutron densities are not similar is constructed within the coherent density fluctuation model (CDFM) as a sum of the proton and neutron scaling functions. The latter are calculated in the cases of $^{62}$Ni, $^{82}$Kr, $^{118}$Sn, and $^{197}$Au nuclei on the basis of the corresponding proton and neutron density distributions which are obtained in deformed self-consistent mean-field Skyrme HF+BCS method. The results are in a reasonable agreement with the empirical data from the inclusive electron scattering from nuclei showing superscaling for negative values of $ψ'$, including those smaller than -1. This is an improvement over the relativistic Fermi gas (RFG) model predictions where $f(ψ')$ becomes abruptly zero for $ψ'\leq -1$. It is also an improvement over the CDFM calculations made in the past for nuclei with $Z\neq N$ assuming that the neutron density is equal to the proton one and using only the phenomenological charge density.

Non-Scissors-Mode Behaviour of Isovector Magnetic Dipole Orbital Transitions Involving Isospin Transfer

We study the response of isovector orbital magnetic dipole (IOMD) transitions to the quadrupole-quadrupole ($Q \cdot Q$) interaction, to the isospin-conserving pairing interaction (ICP) and to combinations of both. We find qualitatively different behaviours for transitions in which the final isospin differs from the initial isospin versus cases where the two isospins are the same. For $N=Z$ even-even nuclei with $J^π=0^+, T=0$ ground states such as $^8Be$ and $^{20}Ne$, the summed $T=0 \to T=1$ IOMD from the ground state to all the $J=1, T=1$ states in the $0 \hbar ω$ space does not vanish when the $Q \cdot Q$ interaction is turned off. The pairing interaction (ICP) alone leads to a finite transition rate. For nuclei with $J=0^+, T=1$ ground states such as $^{10}Be$ and $^{22}Ne$, the summed $T=1 \to T=1$ IOMD $does$ vanish when the $Q \cdot Q$ interaction is turned off, as is expected in a good scissors-mode behaviour. However this is not the case for the corresponding sum of the $T=1 \to T=2$ IOMD transitions. In $^{22}Ne$ (but not in $^{10}Be$) the sum of the $T=1 \to T=2$ IOMD transitions is remarkably insensitive to the strengths of both the $Q \cdot Q$ and the ICP interactions. In $^{22}Ne$ an energy weighted-sum is similarly insensitive. All our calculations were carried out in the $0 \hbar ω$ space.

Effective density dependent pairing forces in the T=1 and T=0 channels

Effective density dependent pairing forces of zero range are adjusted on gap values in T=0,1 channels calculated with the Paris force in symmetric nuclear matter. General discussions on the pairing force are presented. In conjunction with the effective k-mass the nuclear pairing force seems to need very little renormalization in the T=1 channel. The situation in the T=0 channel is also discussed.

Spin dependent Momentum Distributions in Deformed Nuclei

We study the properties of the spin dependent one body density in momentum space for odd--A polarized deformed nuclei within the mean field approximation. We derive analytic expressions connecting intrinsic and laboratory momentum distributions. The latter are related to observable transition densities in {\bf p}--space that can be probed in one nucleon knock--out reactions from polarized targets. It is shown that most of the information contained in the intrinsic spin dependent momentum distribution is lost when the nucleus is not polarized. Results are presented and discussed for two prolate nuclei, $^{21}$Ne and $^{25}$Mg, and for one oblate nucleus, $^{37}$Ar. The effects of deformation are highlighted by comparison to the case of odd--A nuclei in the spherical model.
