Two-Loop Four-Fermion Scattering Amplitude in QED

We present the analytic evaluation of the two-loop corrections to the amplitude for the scattering of four fermions in Quantum Electrodynamics, $f^- + f^+ + F^- + F^+ \to 0$, with $f$ and $F$ representing a massless and a massive lepton, respectively. Dimensional regularization is employed to evaluate the loop integrals. Ultraviolet divergences are removed by renormalizing the coupling constant in the ${\overline{\text{MS}}}$-scheme, and the lepton mass as well as the external fields in the on-shell scheme. The analytic result for the renormalized amplitude is expressed as Laurent series around $d=4$ space-time dimensions, and contains Generalized Polylogarithms with up to weight four. The structure of the residual infrared divergences of the virtual amplitude is in agreement with the prediction of the Soft Collinear Effective Theory. Our analytic results are an essential ingredient for the computation of the scattering cross section for massive fermion-pair production in massless fermion-pair annihilation, i.e. $f^- f^+ \to F^- F^+$, and crossing related processes such as the elastic scattering $f F \to f F$, with up to Next-to-Next to Leading Order accuracy.

GoSam-2.0: a tool for automated one-loop calculations within the Standard Model and beyond

We present the version 2.0 of the program package GoSam for the automated calculation of one-loop amplitudes. GoSam is devised to compute one-loop QCD and/or electroweak corrections to multi-particle processes within and beyond the Standard Model. The new code contains improvements in the generation and in the reduction of the amplitudes, performs better in computing time and numerical accuracy, and has an extended range of applicability. The extended version of the "Binoth-Les-Houches-Accord" interface to Monte Carlo programs is also implemented. We give a detailed description of installation and usage of the code, and illustrate the new features in dedicated examples.

Nonexistence of solutions to parabolic differential inequalities with a potential on Riemannian manifolds

We are concerned with nonexistence results of nonnegative weak solutions for a class of quasilinear parabolic problems with a potential on complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds. In particular, we highlight the interplay between the geometry of the underlying manifold, the power nonlinearity and the behavior of the potential at infinity.

Automated one-loop calculations with GoSam 2.0

We present the version 2.0 of the program GoSam, which is a public program package to compute one-loop corrections to multi-particle processes. The extended version of the "Binoth-Les-Houches-Accord" interface to Monte Carlo programs is also implemented. This allows a large flexibility regarding the combination of the code with various Monte Carlo programs to produce fully differential NLO results, including the possibility of parton showering and hadronisation. We describe the new features of the code and illustrate the wide range of applicability for multi-particle processes at NLO, both within and beyond the Standard Model.

Multiloop Integrand Reduction for Dimensionally Regulated Amplitudes

We present the integrand reduction via multivariate polynomial division as a natural technique to encode the unitarity conditions of Feynman amplitudes. We derive a recursive formula for the integrand reduction, valid for arbitrary dimensionally regulated loop integrals with any number of loops and external legs, which can be used to obtain the decomposition of any integrand analytically with a finite number of algebraic operations. The general results are illustrated by applications to two-loop Feynman diagrams in QED and QCD, showing that the proposed reduction algorithm can also be seamlessly applied to integrands with denominators appearing with arbitrary powers.

Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 3. Higgs Properties

This Report summarizes the results of the activities in 2012 and the first half of 2013 of the LHC Higgs Cross Section Working Group. The main goal of the working group was to present the state of the art of Higgs Physics at the LHC, integrating all new results that have appeared in the last few years. This report follows the first working group report Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 1. Inclusive Observables (CERN-2011-002) and the second working group report Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 2. Differential Distributions (CERN-2012-002). After the discovery of a Higgs boson at the LHC in mid-2012 this report focuses on refined prediction of Standard Model (SM) Higgs phenomenology around the experimentally observed value of 125-126 GeV, refined predictions for heavy SM-like Higgs bosons as well as predictions in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model and first steps to go beyond these models. The other main focus is on the extraction of the characteristics and properties of the newly discovered particle such as couplings to SM particles, spin and CP-quantum numbers etc.

NLO QCD corrections to Higgs boson production plus three jets in gluon fusion

We report on the calculation of the cross section for Higgs boson production in association with three jets via gluon fusion, at next-to-leading-order (NLO) accuracy in QCD, in the infinite top-mass approximation. After including the complete NLO QCD corrections, we observe a strong reduction in the scale dependence of the result, and an increased steepness in the transverse momentum distributions of both the Higgs and the leading jets. The results are obtained with the combined use of GoSam, Sherpa, and the MadDipole/MadEvent framework.

NLO QCD corrections to the production of Higgs plus two jets at the LHC

We present the calculation of the NLO QCD corrections to the associated production of a Higgs boson and two jets, in the infinite top-mass limit. We discuss the technical details of the computation and we show the numerical impact of the radiative corrections on several observables at the LHC. The results are obtained by using a fully automated framework for fixed order NLO QCD calculations based on the interplay of the packages GoSam and Sherpa. The evaluation of the virtual corrections constitutes an application of the d-dimensional integrand-level reduction to theories with higher dimensional operators. We also present first results for the one-loop matrix elements of the partonic processes with a quark-pair in the final state, which enter the hadronic production of a Higgs boson together with three jets in the infinite top-mass approximation.

Automated one-loop calculations with GoSam

In this talk, the program package GOSAM is presented, which can be used for the automated calculation of one-loop amplitudes for multi-particle processes. The integrands are generated in terms of Feynman diagrams and can be reduced by d-dimensional integrand-level decomposition, or tensor reduction, or a combination of both. Through various examples we show that GOSAM can produce one-loop amplitudes for both QCD and electroweak theory; model files for theories Beyond the Standard Model can be linked as well.

NLO QCD corrections to the production of W+ W- plus two jets at the LHC

We present the full NLO QCD corrections to the production of a W^+W^- pair in association with two jets in hadronic collisions, which is an important background to New Physics and Higgs boson searches. We include leptonic decays of the W-bosons with full spin correlations. We find NLO corrections of the order of 10% for standard cuts at the LHC. The scale dependence is considerably reduced by the NLO corrections.

The Integrand Reduction of One- and Two-Loop Scattering Amplitudes

The integrand-level methods for the reduction of scattering amplitudes are well-established techniques, which have already proven their effectiveness in several applications at one-loop. In addition to the automation and refinement of tools for one-loop calculations, during the past year we observed very interesting progress in developing new techniques for amplitudes at two- and higher-loops, based on similar principles. In this presentation, we review the main features of integrand-level approaches with a particular focus on algebraic techniques, such as Laurent series expansion which we used to improve the one-loop reduction, and multivariate polynomial division which unveils the structure of multi-loop amplitudes.

The SM and NLO Multileg and SM MC Working Groups: Summary Report

The 2011 Les Houches workshop was the first to confront LHC data. In the two years since the previous workshop there have been significant advances in both soft and hard QCD, particularly in the areas of multi-leg NLO calculations, the inclusion of those NLO calculations into parton shower Monte Carlos, and the tuning of the non-perturbative parameters of those Monte Carlos. These proceedings describe the theoretical advances that have taken place, the impact of the early LHC data, and the areas for future development.

GoSam: A program for automated one-loop Calculations

The program package GoSam is presented which aims at the automated calculation of one-loop amplitudes for multi-particle processes. The amplitudes are generated in terms of Feynman diagrams and can be reduced using either D-dimensional integrand-level decomposition or tensor reduction, or a combination of both. GoSam can be used to calculate one-loop corrections to both QCD and electroweak theory, and model files for theories Beyond the Standard Model can be linked as well. A standard interface to programs calculating real radiation is also included. The flexibility of the program is demonstrated by various examples.

Scattering AMplitudes from Unitarity-based Reduction Algorithm at the Integrand-level

SAMURAI is a tool for the automated numerical evaluation of one-loop corrections to any scattering amplitudes within the dimensional-regularization scheme. It is based on the decomposition of the integrand according to the OPP-approach, extended to accommodate an implementation of the generalized d-dimensional unitarity-cuts technique, and uses a polynomial interpolation exploiting the Discrete Fourier Transform. SAMURAI can process integrands written either as numerator of Feynman diagrams or as product of tree-level amplitudes. We discuss some applications, among which the 6- and 8-photon scattering in QED, and the 6-quark scattering in QCD. SAMURAI has been implemented as a Fortran90 library, publicly available, and it could be a useful module for the systematic evaluation of the virtual corrections oriented towards automating next-to-leading order calculations relevant for the LHC phenomenology.

Quest for precision in hadronic cross sections at low energy: Monte Carlo tools vs. experimental data

We present the achievements of the last years of the experimental and theoretical groups working on hadronic cross section measurements at the low energy e+e- colliders in Beijing, Frascati, Ithaca, Novosibirsk, Stanford and Tsukuba and on tau decays. We sketch the prospects in these fields for the years to come. We emphasise the status and the precision of the Monte Carlo generators used to analyse the hadronic cross section measurements obtained as well with energy scans as with radiative return, to determine luminosities and tau decays. The radiative corrections fully or approximately implemented in the various codes and the contribution of the vacuum polarisation are discussed.

QCD Corrections to Static Heavy Quark Form Factors

Interactions of heavy quarks, in particular of top quarks, with electroweak gauge bosons are expected to be very sensitive to new physics effects related to electroweak symmetry breaking. These interactions are described by the so-called static form factors, which include anomalous magnetic moments and the effective weak charges. We compute the second-order QCD corrections to these static form factors, which turn out to be sizeable and need to be taken into account in searches for new anomalous coupling effects.

Two-Loop QCD Corrections to the Heavy Quark Form Factors: Axial Vector Contributions

We consider the Z Q Qbar vertex to second order in the QCD coupling for an on-shell massive quark-antiquark pair and for arbitrary momentum transfer of the Z boson. We present closed analytic expressions for the two parity-violating form factors of that vertex at the two-loop level in QCD, excluding the contributions from triangle diagrams. These form factors are expressed in terms of 1-dimensional harmonic polylogarithms of maximum weight 4.

QED vertex form factors at two loops

We present the closed analytic expression of the form factors of the two-loop QED vertex amplitude for on-shell electrons of finite mass $m$ and arbitrary momentum transfer $S=-Q^2$. The calculation is carried out within the continuous $D$-dimensional regularization scheme, with a single continuous parameter $D$, the dimension of the space-time, which regularizes at the same time UltraViolet (UV) and InfraRed (IR) divergences. The results are expressed in terms of 1-dimensional harmonic polylogarithms of maximum weight 4.

The analytic value of the sunrise self-mass with two equal masses and the external invariant equal to the third squared mass

We consider the two-loop self-mass sunrise amplitude with two equal masses $M$ and the external invariant equal to the square of the third mass $m$ in the usual $d$-continuous dimensional regularization. We write a second order differential equation for the amplitude in $x=m/M$ and show as solve it in close analytic form. As a result, all the coefficients of the Laurent expansion in $(d-4)$ of the amplitude are expressed in terms of harmonic polylogarithms of argument $x$ and increasing weight. As a by product, we give the explicit analytic expressions of the value of the amplitude at $x=1$, corresponding to the on-mass-shell sunrise amplitude in the equal mass case, up to the $(d-4)^5$ term included.
