Anomalous Hall Effect for semiclassical chiral fermions

Semiclassical chiral fermions manifest the anomalous spin-Hall effect: when put into a pure electric field they suffer a side jump, analogous to what happens to their massive counterparts in non-commutative mechanics. The transverse shift is consistent with the conservation of the angular momentum. In a pure magnetic field instead, spiraling motion is found. Motion in Hall-type perpendicular electric and magnetic fields is also studied.

Dynamical supersymmetry of spin particle-magnetic field interaction

We study the super and dynamical symmetries of a fermion in a monopole background. The Hamiltonian also involves an additional spin-orbit coupling term, which is parameterized by the gyromagnetic ratio. We construct the superinvariants associated with the system using a SUSY extension of a previously proposed algorithm, based on Grassmann-valued Killing tensors. Conserved quantities arise for certain definite values of the gyromagnetic factor: $\N=1$ SUSY requires $g=2$; a Kepler-type dynamical symmetry only arises, however, for the anomalous values $g=0$ and $g=4$. The two anomalous systems can be unified into an $\N=2$ SUSY system built by doubling the number of Grassmann variables. The planar system also exhibits an $\N=2$ supersymmetry without Grassmann variable doubling.

Chaplygin gas with field-dependent Poincare symmetry

The relativistic generalization of the Chaplygin gas, put forward by Jackiw and Polychronakos, is derived in Duval's Kaluza-Klein framework, using a universal quadratic Lagrangian. Our framework yields a simplified proof of the field-dependent Poincaré symmetry Our action is related to the usual Nambu-Goto action [world volume] of $d$-branes in the same way as the Polyakov and the Nambu action are in strings theory.

Symmetries of fluid dynamics with polytropic exponent

The symmetries of the general Euler equations of fluid dynamics with polytropic exponent are determined using the Kaluza-Klein type framework of Duval et $\it{al}$. In the standard polytropic case the recent results of O'Raifeartaigh and Sreedhar are confirmed and generalized. Similar results are proved for polytropic exponent $γ=-1$, which corresponds to the dimensional reduction of $d$-branes. The relation between the duality transformation used in describing supernova explosion and Cosmology is explained.

Field-dependent symmetries of a non-relativistic fluid model

As found by Bordemann and Hoppe and by Jevicki, a certain non-relativistic model of an irrotational and isentropic fluid, related to membranes and to partons, admits a Poincaré symmetry. Bazeia and Jackiw associate this dynamical symmetry to a novel type of ``field dependent'' action on space-time. The ``Kaluza-Klein type'' framework of Duval et al. is used to explain the origin of these symmetries and to derive the associated conserved quantities. In the non-interacting case, the symmetry extends to the entire conformal group.

Non-relativistic Maxwell-Chern-Simons Vortices

The non-relativistic Maxwell-Chern-Simons model recently introduced by Manton is shown to admit self-dual vortex solutions with non-zero electric field. The interrelated ``geometric'' and ``hidden'' symmetries are explained. The theory is also extended to (non-relativistic) spinors. A relativistic, self-dual model, whose non-relativistic limit is the Manton model is also presented. The relation to previous work is discussed.
