A Semiclassical Formulation of the Chiral Magnetic Effect and Chiral Anomaly in Even d+1 Dimensions

In terms of the matrix valued Berry gauge field strength for the Weyl Hamiltonian in any even spacetime dimensions a symplectic form whose elements are matrices in spin indices is introduced. Definition of the volume form is modified appropriately. A simple method of finding the path integral measure and the chiral current in the presence of external electromagnetic fields is presented. It is shown that within this new approach the chiral magnetic effect as well as the chiral anomaly in even d+1 dimensions are accomplished straightforwardly.

The Effective field theory of 2+1 dimensional topological insulator in the presence of Rashba spin-orbit interaction

2+1 dimensional topological insulator described by the Kane-Mele model in the presence of Rashba spin-orbit interaction is considered. The effective action of the external fields coupled to electromagnetic and spin degrees of freedom is accomplished within this model. The Hamiltonian methods are adopted to provide the coefficients appearing in the action. It is demonstrated straightforwardly that the coefficients of the Chern-Simons terms are given by the first Chern number attained through the related non-Abelian Berry gauge field. The effective theory which we obtain is in accord with the existence of the spin Hall phase where the value of the spin Hall conductivity is very close to the quantized one.

A Noncommutative Space Approach to Confined Dirac Fermions in Graphene

A generalized algebra of noncommutative coordinates and momenta embracing non-Abelian gauge fields is proposed. Through a two-dimensional realization of this algebra for a gauge field including electromagnetic vector potential and two spin-orbit-like coupling terms, a Dirac-like Hamiltonian in noncommutative coordinates is introduced. We established the corresponding energy spectrum and from that we derived the relation between the energy level quantum number and the magnetic field at the maxima of Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations. By tuning the non-commutativity parameter θin terms of the values of magnetic field at the maxima of Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations we accomplished the experimentally observed Landau plot of the peaks for graphene. Accepting that the experimentally observed behavior is due to the confinement of carriers, we conclude that our method of introducing noncommutative coordinates provides another formulation of the confined massless Dirac fermions in graphene.

N=1 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in d=4 and its Batalin-Vilkovisky quantization by spinor superfields

Four dimensional N=1 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory action is written in terms of the spinor superfields in transverse gauge. This action is seemingly first order in space-time derivatives. Thus, it suggests that the generalized fields approach of obtaining Batalin-Vilkovisky quantization can be applicable. In fact, generalized fields which collect spinor superfields possessing different ghost numbers are introduced to obtain the minimal solution of its Batalin-Vilkovisky master equation in a compact form.

The Batalain-Vilkovisky Method of Quantization Made Easy

Odd time was introduced to formulate the Batalin-Vilkovisky method of quantization of gauge theories in a systematic manner. This approach is presented emphasizing the odd time canonical formalism beginning from an odd time Lagrangian. To let the beginners have access to the method essential notions of the gauge theories are briefly discussed, and each step is illustrated with examples. Moreover, the method of solving the master equation in an easy way for a class of gauge theories is reviewed. When this method is applicable some properties of the solutions can easily be extracted as shown in the related examples.
