Lipschitz regularity results for nonlinear strictly elliptic equations and applications

Most of lipschitz regularity results for nonlinear strictly elliptic equations are obtained for a suitable growth power of the nonlinearity with respect to the gradient variable (subquadratic for instance). For equations with superquadratic growth power in gradient, one usually uses weak Bernstein-type arguments which require regularity and/or convex-type assumptions on the gradient nonlinearity. In this article, we obtain new Lipschitz regularity results for a large class of nonlinear strictly elliptic equations with possibly arbitrary growth power of the Hamiltonian with respect to the gradient variable using some ideas coming from Ishii-Lions' method. We use these bounds to solve an ergodic problem and to study the regularity and the large time behavior of the solution of the evolution equation.

Entire solutions of fully nonlinear elliptic equations with a superlinear gradient term

In this paper we consider second order fully nonlinear operators with an additive superlinear gradient term. Like in the pioneering paper of Brezis for the semilinear case, we obtain the existence of entire viscosity solutions, defined in all the space, without assuming global bounds. A uniqueness result is also obtained for special gradient terms, subject to a convexity/concavity type assumption where superlinearity is essential and has to be handled in a different way from the linear case.

Gradient bounds for nonlinear degenerate parabolic equations and application to large time behavior of systems

We obtain new oscillation and gradient bounds for the viscosity solutions of fully nonlinear degenerate elliptic equations where the Hamiltonian is a sum of a sublinear and a superlinear part in the sense of Barles and Souganidis (2001). We use these bounds to study the asymptotic behavior of weakly coupled systems of fully nonlinear parabolic equations. Our results apply to some "asymmetric systems" where some equations contain a sublinear Hamiltonian whereas the others contain a superlinear one. Moreover, we can deal with some particular case of systems containing some degenerate equations using a generalization of the strong maximum principle for systems.

Regularity Results and Large Time Behavior for Integro-Differential Equations with Coercive Hamiltonians

In this paper we obtain regularity results for elliptic integro-differential equations driven by the stronger effect of coercive gradient terms. This feature allows us to construct suitable strict supersolutions from which we conclude Hölder estimates for bounded subsolutions. In many interesting situations, this gives way to a priori estimates for subsolutions. We apply this regularity results to obtain the ergodic asymptotic behavior of the associated evolution problem in the case of superlinear equations. One of the surprising features in our proof is that it avoids the key ingredient which are usually necessary to use the Strong Maximum Principle: linearization based on the Lipschitz regularity of the solution of the ergodic problem. The proof entirely relies on the Hölder regularity.

Large time behavior for some nonlinear degenerate parabolic equations

We study the asymptotic behavior of Lipschitz continuous solutions of nonlinear degenerate parabolic equations in the periodic setting. Our results apply to a large class of Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equations. Defining S as the set where the diffusion vanishes, i.e., where the equation is totally degenerate, we obtain the convergence when the equation is uniformly parabolic outside S and, on S, the Hamiltonian is either strictly convex or satisfies an assumption similar of the one introduced by Barles-Souganidis (2000) for first-order Hamilton-Jacobi equations. This latter assumption allows to deal with equations with nonconvex Hamiltonians. We can also release the uniform parabolic requirement outside S. As a consequence, we prove the convergence of some everywhere degenerate second-order equations.

Large time behavior of weakly coupled systems of first-order Hamilton-Jacobi equations

We show a large time behavior result for class of weakly coupled systems of first-order Hamilton-Jacobi equations in the periodic setting. We use a PDE approach to extend the convergence result proved by Namah and Roquejoffre (1999) in the scalar case. Our proof is based on new comparison, existence and regularity results for systems. An interpretation of the solution of the system in terms of an optimal control problem with switching is given.

Comparison principle for unbounded viscosity solutions of degenerate elliptic PDEs with gradient superlinear terms

We are concerned with fully nonlinear possibly degenerate elliptic partial differential equations (PDEs) with superlinear terms with respect to $Du$. We prove several comparison principles among viscosity solutions which may be unbounded under some polynomial-type growth conditions. Our main result applies to PDEs with convex superlinear terms but we also obtain some results in nonconvex cases. Applications to monotone systems of PDEs are given.

Short Time Uniqueness Results for Solutions of Nonlocal and Non-monotone Geometric Equations

We describe a method to show short time uniqueness results for viscosity solutions of general nonlocal and non-monotone second-order geometric equations arising in front propagation problems. Our method is based on some lower gradient bounds for the solution. These estimates are crucial to obtain regularity properties of the front, which allow to deal with nonlocal terms in the equations. Applications to short time uniqueness results for the initial value problems for dislocation type equations, asymptotic equations of a FitzHugh-Nagumo type system and equations depending on the Lebesgue measure of the fronts are presented.

Some flows in shape optimization

Geometric flows related to shape optimization problems of Bernoulli type are investigated. The evolution law is the sum of a curvature term and a nonlocal term of Hele-Shaw type. We introduce generalized set solutions, the definition of which is widely inspired by viscosity solutions. The main result is an inclusion preservation principle for generalized solutions. As a consequence, we obtain existence, uniqueness and stability of solutions. Asymptotic behavior for the flow is discussed: we prove that the solutions converge to a generalized Bernoulli exterior free boundary problem.

Uniqueness Results for Second Order Bellman-Isaacs Equations under Quadratic Growth Assumptions and Applications

In this paper, we prove a comparison result between semicontinuous viscosity sub and supersolutions growing at most quadratically of second-order degenerate parabolic Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman and Isaacs equations. As an application, we characterize the value function of a finite horizon stochastic control problem with unbounded controls as the unique viscosity solution of the corresponding dynamic programming equation.

Viscosity solutions for a polymer crystal growth model

We prove existence of a solution for a polymer crystal growth model describing the movement of a front $(Γ(t))$ evolving with a nonlocal velocity. In this model the nonlocal velocity is linked to the solution of a heat equation with source $δ_Γ$. The proof relies on new regularity results for the eikonal equation, in which the velocity is positive but merely measurable in time and with Hölder bounds in space. From this result, we deduce \textit{a priori} regularity for the front. On the other hand, under this regularity assumption, we prove bounds and regularity estimates for the solution of the heat equation.

Asymptotic behaviour of self-contracted planar curves and gradient orbits of convex functions

We hereby introduce and study the notion of self-contracted curves, which encompasses orbits of gradient systems of convex and quasiconvex functions. Our main result shows that bounded self-contracted planar curves have a finite length. We also give an example of a convex function defined in the plane whose gradient orbits spiral infinitely many times around the unique minimum of the function.

Existence of weak solutions for general nonlocal and nonlinear second-order parabolic equations

In this article, we provide existence results for a general class of nonlocal and nonlinear second-order parabolic equations. The main motivation comes from front propagation theory in the cases when the normal velocity depends on the moving front in a nonlocal way. Among applications, we present level-set equations appearing in dislocations' theory and in the study of Fitzhugh-Nagumo systems.

Uniqueness Results for Nonlocal Hamilton-Jacobi Equations

We are interested in nonlocal Eikonal Equations describing the evolution of interfaces moving with a nonlocal, non monotone velocity. For these equations, only the existence of global-in-time weak solutions is available in some particular cases. In this paper, we propose a new approach for proving uniqueness of the solution when the front is expanding. This approach simplifies and extends existing results for dislocation dynamics. It also provides the first uniqueness result for a Fitzhugh-Nagumo system. The key ingredients are some new perimeter estimates for the evolving fronts as well as some uniform interior cone property for these fronts.
