Initial value problem for one-dimensional rotating shallow water equations

In this article we address some issues related to the initial value problems for a rotating shallow water hyperbolic system of equations and the diffusive regularization of this system. For initial data close to the solution at rest, we establish the local existence and the uniqueness of a solution to the hyperbolic system, as well as the global existence of a solution to the regularized system. In order to prove this, we use suitable variables that symmetrize the system.

Derivation of dissipative Boussinesq equations using the Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator approach

The water wave theory traditionally assumes the fluid to be perfect, thus neglecting all effects of the viscosity. However, the explanation of several experimental data sets requires the explicit inclusion of dissipative effects. In order to meet these practical problems, the theory of visco-potential flows has been developed (see P.-F. Liu & A. Orfila (2004) and D. Dutykh & F. Dias (2007)). Then, usually this formulation is further simplified by developing the potential in an entire series in the vertical coordinate and by introducing thus, the long wave approximation. In the present study we propose a derivation of dissipative Boussinesq equations which is based on asymptotic expansions of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann (D2N) operator. Both employed methods yield the same system by different ways.

Entire large solutions for semilinear elliptic equations

We analyze the semilinear elliptic equation $Δu=ρ(x) f(u)$, $u>0$ in ${\mathbf R}^D$ $(D\ge3)$, with a particular emphasis put on the qualitative study of entire large solutions, that is, solutions $u$ such that $\lim_{|x|\rightarrow +\infty}u(x)=+\infty$. Assuming that $f$ satisfies the Keller-Osserman growth assumption and that $ρ$ decays at infinity in a suitable sense, we prove the existence of entire large solutions. We then discuss the more delicate questions of asymptotic behavior at infinity, uniqueness and symmetry of solutions.
