Study of two- and three-meson decay modes of tau-lepton with Monte Carlo generator TAUOLA

The study of the $τ$-lepton decays into hadrons has contributed to a better understanding of non-perturbative QCD and light-quark meson spectroscopy, as well as to the search of new physics beyond the Standard Model. The two- and three-meson decay modes, considering only those permitted by the Standard Model, are the predominant decays and together with the one-pion mode compose more than $85\%$ of the hadronic $τ$-lepton decay width. In this note we review the theoretical results for these modes implemented in the Monte Carlo event generator TAUOLA and present at the same time a comparison with the Belle Collaboration data for the two-pion decay mode and the BaBar preliminary data for the three-pion decay mode as well for the decay mode into two-kaon and one-pion.

Analysis of BaBar data for three meson tau decay modes using the Tauola generator

The hadronic current for the $τ^- \to π^-π^+π^-ν_τ$ decay calculated in the framework of the Resonance Chiral Theory with an additional modification to include the $σ$ meson is described. Implementation into the Monte Carlo generator Tauola and fitting strategy to get the model parameters using the one-dimensional distributions are discussed. The results of the fit to one-dimensional mass invariant spectrum of the BaBar data are presented.

Study of the tau meson decay modes with Monte Carlo generator TAUOLA. Status and perspectives

In the last two years substantial progress for the simulation of the process: $τ^- \to π^-π^+π^- ν_τ$ by the Monte Carlo generator TAUOLA was achieved. It is related to a new parametrization of the corresponding hadronic current based on the Resonance Chiral Lagrangian and the recent availability of the unfolded distributions from the BaBar Collaboration analysis for all invariant hadronic masses. The theoretical model parameters were fitted to the one-dimensional distributions provided by the BaBar Collaboration and results of the fit are discussed. A set of the hadronic currents for other final states with two and three pseudoscalars is also installed in TAUOLA and the preliminary results for fitting $K^+K^-π^-$ and $π^0π^-$ to BaBar and Belle data are presented.

Two-photon form factors of the pi0, eta and eta-prime mesons in the chiral theory with resonances

We have developed a phenomenological approach which describes very well the pi0, eta and eta-prime meson production in the two-photon interactions. The simultaneous description of the pi0, eta and eta-prime meson two-photon form factors is consistent with data in the space-like region. The obtained form factors are implemented in the event generator EKHARA and the simulated cross sections are presented. Uncertainties in the measured form factors coming from the model dependence in Monte Carlo simulations are studied. The model predictions for the form factor slopes at the origin are given and the high-Q2 limit is also discussed.

Total and inelastic cross-sections at LHC at CM energy of 7 TeV and beyond

We discuss expectations for the total and inelastic cross-sections at LHC CM energies $\sqrt{s}\ =\ 7\ TeV$ {and $ 14\ TeV$} obtained in an eikonal minijet model augmented by soft gluon $k_t$-resummation, which we describe in some detail. We present a band of predictions which encompass recent LHC data and suggest that the inelastic cross-section described by two channel eikonal models include only uncorrelated processes. We show that this interpretation of the model is supported by the LHC data.

Modeling pion and proton total cross-sections at LHC

To settle the question whether the growth with energy is universal for different hadronic total cross-sections, we present results from theoretical models for pion-proton, proton-proton and proton-antiproton total cross-sections. We show that present and planned experiments at LHC can differentiate between different models, all of which are consistent with presently available (lower energy) data. This study is also relevant for the analysis of those very high energy cosmic ray data which require reliable pion-proton total cross-sections as seeds. A preliminary study of the total pion-pion cross-sections is also made.
