Chiral spin liquid in a two-dimensional two-component helical magnet

A low-temperature method is developed, suited for the two-dimensional two-component classical helical magnet. Four phases on the phase diagram as functions of temperature and helicity parameter of the Hamiltonian are found. Among the three ordered phases two show magnetic order: the usual algebraic correlations of the magnetization and the algebraic correlations of the magnetization in the frame rotating according with the helical order. A chiral spin liquid phase emerges directly from the paramagnetic phase and has a scalar parity-breaking pitch of the magnetization as the order parameter. The chiral phase transition is found to be of a continuous second order type with a modified by the long-range interaction Ising universality class. All the critical exponents are calculated in the second and the third order of an $ε$-expansion. A new scaling relationship replacing the Josephson's one is found.

Zero-temperature criticality in the Gaussian random bond Ising model on a square lattice

The free energy and the specific heat of the two-dimensional Gaussian random bond Ising model on a square lattice are found with high accuracy using graph expansion method. At low temperatures the specific heat reveals a zero-temperature criticality described by the power law $C\propto T^{1+α}$, with $α= 0.55(8)$. Interpretation of the free energy in terms of independent two-level excitations gives the density of states, that follows a novel power law $ρ(ε)\propto ε^α$ at low energies. An exact high-temperature series for this model up to the term $β^{29}$ is found. A proof that the density of one-site spin flip states vanishes at low energy is given.

The cavity method for quantum disordered systems: from transverse random field ferromagnets to directed polymers in random media

After reviewing the basics of the cavity method in classical systems, we show how its quantum version, with some appropriate approximation scheme, can be used to study a system of spins with random ferromagnetic interactions and a random transverse field. The quantum cavity equations describing the ferromagnetic-paramagnetic phase transition can be transformed into the well-known problem of a classical directed polymer in a random medium. The glass transition of this polymer problem translates ino the existence of a `Griffith phase' close to the quantum phase transition of the quantum spin problem, where the physics is dominated by rare events.
