Generalised asymptotic equivalence for extensive and non-extensive entropies

We extend the Hanel and Thurner asymptotic analysis to both extensive and non-extensive entropies on the basis of a wide class of entropic forms. The procedure is known to be capable to classify multiple entropy measures in terms of their defining equivalence classes. Those are determined by a pair of scaling exponents taking into account a large number of microstates as for the thermodynamical limit. Yet, a generalisation to this formulation makes it possible to establish an entropic connection between Markovian and non-Markovian statistical systems through a set of fundamental entropies $S_{\pm}$, which have been studied in other contexts and exhibit, among their attributes, two interesting aspects: They behave as additive for a large number of degrees of freedom while they are substantially non-additive for a small number of them. Furthermore, an ample amount of special entropy measures, either additive or non-additive, are contained in such asymptotic classification. Under this scheme we analyse the equivalence classes of Tsallis, Sharma-Mittal and Rényi entropies and study their features in the thermodynamic limit as well as the correspondences among them.

Can noncommutative effects account for the present speed up of the cosmic expansion?

In this paper we investigate to which extent noncommutativity, a intrinsically quantum property, may influence the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmological dynamics at late times/large scales. To our purpose it will be enough to explore the asymptotic properties of the cosmological model in the phase space. Our recipe to build noncommutativity into our model is based in the approach of reference [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 88} (2002) 161301], and can be summarized in the following steps: i) the Hamiltonian is derived from the Einstein-Hilbert action (plus a self-interacting scalar field action) for a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spacetime with flat spatial sections, ii) canonical quantization recipe is applied, i. e., the minisuperspace variables are promoted to operators, and the WDW equation is written in terms of these variables, iii) noncommutativity in the minisuperspace is achieved through the replacement of the standard product of functions by the Moyal star product in the WDW equation, and, finally, iv) semi-classical cosmological equations are obtained by means of the WKB approximation applied to the (equivalent) modified Hamilton-Jacobi equation. We demonstrate, indeed, that noncommutative effects of the kind considered here, can be those responsible for the present speed up of the cosmic expansion.

Closed String Tachyon: Inflation and Cosmological Collapse

By compactifying a critical bosonic string theory on an internal non-flat space with a constant volume, we study the role played by the closed string tachyon in the cosmology of the effective four-dimensional space-time. The effective tachyon potential consists on a negative constant related to the internal curvature space and a polynomial with only quadratic and quartic terms of the tachyon field. Based on it, we present a solution for the tachyon field and the scale factor, which describes an accelerated universe which expands to a maximum value before collapsing. At early times, the closed string tachyon potential behaves as a cosmological constant driving the Universe to an expansion. The value of the cosmological constant is determined by the curvature of the internal space which also fixes the value of the vacuum energy. As time evolves, inflation is present in our models, and it finishes long before the collapsing. At late times, we show that the collapse of the Universe starts as soon as the tachyon field condensates. We also comment on the consistency of our solution at early times at which quantum aspects become important under the perspective of quantum cosmology. Finally we briefly mention the relation among the curvature of the internal space and the value of the energy vacuum in a non-constant internal volume scenario.

Supersymmetric classical cosmology

In this work a supersymmetric cosmological model is analyzed in which we consider a general superfield action of a homogeneous scalar field supermultiplet interacting with the scale factor in a supersymmetric FRW model. There appear fermionic superpartners associated with both the scale factor and the scalar field, and classical equations of motion are obtained from the super-Wheeler-DeWitt equation through the usual WKB method. The resulting supersymmetric Einstein-Klein-Gordon equations contain extra radiation and stiff matter terms, and we study their solutions in flat space for different scalar field potentials. The solutions are compared to the standard case, in particular those corresponding to the exponential potential, and their implications for the dynamics of the early Universe are discussed in turn.

Regular non-twisting S-branes

We construct a family of time and angular dependent, regular S-brane solutions which corresponds to a simple analytical continuation of the Zipoy-Voorhees 4-dimensional vacuum spacetime. The solutions are asymptotically flat and turn out to be free of singularities without requiring a twist in space. They can be considered as the simplest non-singular generalization of the singular S0-brane solution. We analyze the properties of a representative of this family of solutions and show that it resembles to some extent the asymptotic properties of the regular Kerr S-brane. The R-symmetry corresponds, however, to the general Lorentzian symmetry. Several generalizations of this regular solution are derived which include a charged S-brane and an additional dilatonic field.

A family of exact solutions for unpolarized Gowdy models

Unpolarized Gowdy models are inhomogeneous cosmological models that depend on time and one spatial variable and have complicated nonlinear equations of motion. There are two topologies associated with these models, a three-torus and a one-sphere cross a two-sphere. The three-torus models have been used for numerical studies because it seems difficult to find analytic solutions to their nonlinear Einstein equations. The one-sphere cross tow-sphere models have even more complicated equations, but at least one family of analytic solutions can be given as a reinterpretation of known solutions. Various properties of this family of solutions are studied.
