$m$-periodic Gorenstein objects

We present and study the concept of $m$-periodic Gorenstein objects relative to a pair $(\mathcal{A,B})$ of classes of objects in an abelian category, as a generalization of $m$-strongly Gorenstein projective modules over associative rings. We prove several properties in some cases where $(\mathcal{A,B})$ satisfies certain homological conditions, like for instance when $(\mathcal{A,B})$ is a GP-admissible pair. Connections to Gorenstein objects and Gorenstein homological dimensions relative to these pairs are also established.

Cut cotorsion pairs

We present the concept of cotorsion pairs cut along subcategories of an abelian category. This provides a generalization of complete cotorsion pairs, and represents a general framework to find approximations restricted to certain subcategories. We also exhibit some connections between cut cotorsion pairs and Auslander-Buchweitz approximation theory, by considering relative analogs for Frobenius pairs and Auslander-Buchweitz contexts. Several applications are given in the settings of relative Gorenstein homological algebra, chain complexes and quasi-coherent sheaves, but also to characterize some important results on the Finitistic Dimension Conjecture, the existence of right adjoints of quotient functors by Serre subcategories, and the description of cotorsion pairs in triangulated categories as co-$t$-structures.

Generalised Igusa-Todorov functions and Lat-Igusa-Todorov algebras

In this paper we study a generalisation of the Igusa-Todorov functions which gives rise to a vast class of algebras satisfying the finitistic dimension conjecture. This class of algebras is called Lat-Igusa-Todorov and includes, among others, the Igusa-Todorov algebras (defined by J. Wei) and the self-injective algebras which in general are not Igusa-Todorov algebras. Finally, some applications of the developed theory are given in order to relate the different homological dimensions which have been discussed through the paper.

Relative Igusa-Todorov functions and relative homological dimensions

We develope the theory of the $\mathcal{E}$-relative Igusa-Todorov functions in an exact $ IT$-context $(\mathcal{C},\mathcal{E}).$ In the case when $\mathcal{C}=$mod$\, (Λ)$ is the category of finitely generated left $Λ$-modules, for an artin algebra $Λ,$ and $\mathcal{E}$ is the class of all exact sequences in $\mathcal{C},$ we recover the usual Igusa-Todorov functions. We use the setting of the exact structures and the Auslander-Solberg relative homological theory to generalise the original Igusa-Todorov's results. Furthermore, we introduce the $\mathcal{E}$-relative Igusa-Todorov dimension and also we obtain relationships with the relative global and relative finitistic dimensions and the Gorenstein homological dimensions.

The Phi-dimension: A new homological measure

K. Igusa and G. Todorov introduced two functions $ϕ$ and $ψ,$ which are natural and important homological measures generalising the notion of the projective dimension. These Igusa-Todorov functions have become into a powerful tool to understand better the finitistic dimension conjecture. In this paper, for an artin $R$-algebra $A$ and the Igusa-Todorov function $ϕ,$ we characterise the $ϕ$-dimension of $A$ in terms either of the bi-functors $\mathrm{Ext}^{i}_{A}(-, -)$ or Tor's bi-functors $\mathrm{Tor}^{A}_{i}(-,-).$ Furthermore, by using the first characterisation of the $ϕ$-dimension, we show that the finiteness of the $ϕ$-dimension of an artin algebra is invariant under derived equivalences. As an application of this result, we generalise the classical Bongartz's result as follows: For an artin algebra $A,$ a tilting $A$-module $T$ and the endomorphism algebra $B=\mathrm{End}_A(T)^{op},$ we have that $\mathrm{Fidim}\,(A)-\mathrm{pd}\,T\leq \mathrm{Fidim}\,(B)\leq \mathrm{Fidim}\,(A)+\mathrm{pd}\,T.$

Homological systems in triangulated categories

We introduce the notion of homological systems $Θ$ for triangulated categories. Homological systems generalize, on one hand, the notion of stratifying systems in module categories, and on the other hand, the notion of exceptional sequences in triangulated categories. We prove that, attached to the homological system $Θ,$ there are two standardly stratified algebras $A$ and $B,$ which are derived equivalent. Furthermore, it is proved that the category $\F(Θ),$ of the $Θ$-filtered objects in a triangulated category $\T,$ admits in a very natural way an structure of an exact category, and then there are exact equivalences between the exact category $\F(Θ)$ and the exact categories of the $Δ$-good modules associated to the standardly stratified algebras $A$ and $B.$ Some of the obtained results can be seen also under the light of the cotorsion pairs in the sense of Iyama-Nakaoka-Yoshino (see \ref{CotorsionThetaSys1} and \ref{CotorsionThetaSys2}). We recall that cotorsion pairs are studied extensively in relation with cluster tilting categories, $t$-structures and co-$t$-structures.

Split-by-nilpotent extensions algebras and stratifying systems

Let $Γ$ and $Λ$ be artin algebras such that $Γ$ is a split-by-nilpotent extension of $Λ$ by a two sided ideal $I$ of $Γ.$ Consider the so-called change of rings functors $G:={}_ΓΓ_Λ\otimes_Λ-$ and $F:={}_ΛΛ_Γ\otimes_Γ-.$ In this paper, we find the necessary and sufficient conditions under which a stratifying system $(Θ,\leq)$ in $\moduΛ$ can be lifted to a stratifying system $(GΘ,\leq)$ in $\modu\,(Γ).$ Furthermore, by using the functors $F$ and $G,$ we study the relationship between their filtered categories of modules and some connections with their corresponding standardly stratified algebras are stated. Finally, a sufficient condition is given for stratifying systems in $\modu\,(Γ)$ in such a way that they can be restricted, through the functor $F,$ to stratifying systems in $\modu\,(Λ).$

An approach to the finitistic dimension conjecture

Let $R$ be a finite dimensional $k$-algebra over an algebraically closed field $k$ and $\mathrm{mod} R$ be the category of all finitely generated left $R$-modules. For a given full subcategory $\mathcal{X}$ of $\mathrm{mod} R,$ we denote by $\pfd \mathcal{X}$ the projective finitistic dimension of $\mathcal{X}.$ That is, $\pfd \mathcal{X}:=\mathrm{sup} \{\pd X : X\in\mathcal{X} \text{and} \pd X<\infty\}.$ \ It was conjectured by H. Bass in the 60's that the projective finitistic dimension $\pfd (R):=\pfd (\mathrm{mod} R)$ has to be finite. Since then, much work has been done toward the proof of this conjecture. Recently, K. Igusa and J. Todorov defined a function $Ψ:\mathrm{mod} R\to \Bbb{N},$ which turned out to be useful to prove that $\pfd (R)$ is finite for some classes of algebras. In order to have a different approach to the finitistic dimension conjecture, we propose to consider a class of full subcategories of $\mathrm{mod} R$ instead of a class of algebras, namely to take the class of categories $\F(θ)$ of $θ$-filtered $R$-modules for all stratifying systems $(θ,\leq)$ in $\mathrm{mod} R.$
