A Global Treatment Of VMD Physics Up To The phi: II. tau Decay and Hadronic Contributions To g-2

Relying on the Hidden Local Symmetry (HLS) model equipped with a mechanism breaking the U(3)/SU(3)/SU(2) symmetries and generating a dynamical vector meson mixing, it has been shown that a global fit successfully describes the cross sections for the e+ e- -> pi+ pi-, e+ e- -> (pi0/eta) gamma and e+ e- -> pi0 pi+ pi- annihilation channels. One extends this global fit in order to include also the dipion spectra from the tau decay, taking into account all reported information on their statistical and systematic errors. A model accounting for lineshape distortions of the rho+- spectrum relative to rho0 is also examined when analyzing the tau data behavior within the global fit framework. One shows that a successful account for e+ e- annihilation data and tau spectra can be simultaneously reached. Then, issues related with non--perturbative hadronic contributions to the muon g-2 are examined in details. It is shown that all e+ e- data considered together allow for improved and motivated estimates for the a_mu(pi+ pi-), the pi+ pi- loop contribution to the muon g-2; for instance, integrated between 0.630 and 0.958 GeV, we find a_mu(pi+ pi-)= 359.62 +- 1.62 (in units of 10^{-10}), a 40% improvement of the current uncertainty. The effects of the various tau samples in the context of a global fit procedure leads to conclude that different lineshape distortions are revealed by the ALEPH, BELLE and CLEO data samples. Relying on global fits to the data quoted above, one also provides motivated estimates of the pi+ pi-, pi0 gamma, eta gamma and pi0 pi+ pi- contributions to a_mu up to 1 GeV with the smallest possible uncertainties. These estimates are based on various global fit configurations, each yielding a good probability.

K* resonance effects on direct CP violation in B -> pi pi K

Charged and neutral B decays into two charged pions and a charged or a neutral kaon are analyzed within the QCD factorization scheme where final state interactions before and after hadronization are included. The K*(892) and K*(1430) resonance effects are taken into account using the presently known pion-Kaon strange vector and scalar form factors. The weak decay amplitudes, which are calculated at leading power in Lambda_QCD/m_b and at the next-to-leading order in the strong coupling constant, include the hard scattering and annihilation contributions. The end point divergences of these weak final state interactions are controlled by two complex parameters determined through a fit to the available effective mass and helicity angle distribution, CP asymmetry and K*(892) branching ratio data. The predicted K*(1430) branching ratios and the calculated direct CP violation asymmetries are compared to the Belle and BABAR Collaboration data.

Scalar resonance effects on the B_s - \bar B_s mixing angle

The $B_s^0 \to J/ψϕ$ and $B_s^0 \to J/ψf_0(980)$ decays are analyzed within generalized QCD factorization including all leading-order corrections in $\alphas$. We point out that the ratio of our calculated widths, $Γ(B_s^0\to J/ψf_0(980), f_0(980)\to π^+π^-)/ Γ(B_s^0 \to J/ψϕ,ϕ\to K^+K^-)$, strongly indicates that $S$-wave effects in the $f_0(980)$'s daughter pions or kaons cannot be ignored in the extraction of the $B_s-\bar{B}_s$ mixing angle, $-2β_s$, from the $B_s^0 \to ϕJ/ψ$ decay amplitudes.

The pion wave function in covariant light-front dynamics

The structure of the pion wave function in the relativistic constituent quark model is investigated in the explicitly covariant formulation of light-front dynamics. We calculate the two relativistic components of the pion wave function in a simple one-gluon exchange model and investigate various physical observables: decay constant, charge radius, electromagnetic and transition form factors. We discuss the influence of the full relativistic structure of the pion wave function for an overall good description of all these observables, including both low and high momentum scales.

A Global Treatment Of VMD Physics Up To The $ϕ$: I. $e^+e^-$ Annihilations, Anomalies And Vector Meson Partial Widths

The HLS Model, equipped with a mechanism providing the breaking of U(3)/SU(3) symmetry and an isospin symmetry breaking leading naturally to vector meson mixing, has been recently shown to successfully account for $e^+ e^- \ra π^+π^-$ cross section and for the dipion spectrum in $τ$ decay. The present study shows that the full anomalous sector of the HLS model can be considered and is validated by the experimental data. Indeed, this extended model provides a successful simultaneous fit to the $e^+ e^- \ra π^+π^-$ data together with the available data on $e^+ e^- \ra π^0γ$, $e^+ e^- \ra ηγ$ and $e^+ e^- \ra π^0 π^+π^-$ cross sections. It is shown that the fit of these data sets also predicts an accurate description of the $η/η^\prime \ra π^+ π^- γ$ decays fully consistent with the reported information on their branching fractions and spectra. Finally, one also derives from our global fits products of widths of the form $Γ(V \ra f_1)Γ(V \ra e^+ e^-) $ and ratios of the form $Γ(V \ra f_1)/Γ(V \ra f_2)$ describing decays of vector mesons to several non--leptonic final states.

Can VMD improve the estimate of the muon g-2 ?

We show that a VMD based theoretical input allows for a significantly improved accuracy for the hadronic vacuum polarization of the photon which contributes to the theoretical estimate of the muon g-2. We also show that the only experimental piece of information in the $τ$ decay which cannot be accounted for is the accepted value for ${\rm Br}(τ\ra ππν_τ)$, while the spectum lineshape is in agreement with expectations from $e^+ e^-$ annihilations.

Direct CP violation in B \to ρ^0(ω) PS

We calculate the direct CP violating asymmetry parameter, $a_{CP}$, for $B \to π^{+} π^{-} π$ and $B \to π^{+} π^{-} K$ decays, in the case where $ρ^0-ω$ mixing effects are taken into account. We find that the direct CP asymmetry for $B^{-} \to π^{+} π^{-} π^{-}$, $\bar{B}^{0} \to π^{+} π^{-}π^{0}$, $B^{-} \to π^{+} π^{-} K^{-}$ and $\bar{B}^{0} \to π^{+} π^{-}\bar{K}^{0}$, reaches its maximum when the invariant mass $π^{+} π^{-}$ is in the vicinity of the $ω$ meson mass. The inclusion of $ρ^0-ω$ mixing provides an opportunity to erase, without ambiguity, the phase uncertainty mod$(π)$ in the determination of the CKM angles $α$ in case of $b\to u$ and $γ$ in case of $b \to s$.

Direct CP Violation, Branching Ratios and Form Factors $B \to π$, $B \to K$ in $B$ Decays

The $B \to π$ and $B \to K$ transitions involved in hadronic B decays are investigated in a phenomenological way through the framework of QCD factorization. By comparing our results with experimental branching ratios from the BELLE, BABAR and CLEO Collaborations for all the B decays including either a pion or a kaon, we propose boundaries for the transition form factors $B \to π$ and $B \to K$ depending on the CKM matrix element parameters $ρ$ and $η$. From this analysis, the form factors required to reproduce the experimental data for branching ratios are $F^{B \to π}= 0.31 \pm 0.12$ and $F^{B \to K}= 0.37\pm 0.13$. We calculate the direct CP violating asymmetry parameter, $a_{CP}$, for $B \to π^{+} π^{-} π$ and $B \to π^{+} π^{-} K$ decays, in the case where $ρ-ω$ mixing effects are taken into account. Based on these results, we find that the direct CP asymmetry for $B^{-} \to π^{+} π^{-} π^{-}$, $\bar{B}^{0} \to π^{+} π^{-} π^{0}$, $B^{-} \to π^{+} π^{-} K^{-}$, and $\bar{B}^{0} \to π^{+} π^{-} \bar{K}^{0}$, reaches its maximum when the invariant mass $π^{+} π^{-}$ is in the vicinity of the $ω$ meson mass. The inclusion of $ρ-ω$ mixing provides an opportunity to erase, without ambiguity, the phase uncertainty mod$(π)$ in the determination of the CKM angles $α$ in case of $b\to u$ and $γ$ in case of $b \to s$.

$Λ_b$ Decays into $Λ$-Vector

A complete study of the angular distributions of the processes, $Λ_b \to Λ V(1^-)$, with $Λ\to p π^-$ and $V (J/Ψ) \to {\ell}^+ {\ell}^-$ or $V (ρ^0,ω) \to π^+ π^-,$ is performed. Emphasis is put on the initial $Λ_b$ polarization produced in the proton-proton collisions. The polarization density-matrices as well as angular distributions are derived and help to construct T-odd observables which allow us to perform tests of both Time-Reversal and CP violation.

Direct CP Violation in $B \to π^{+} π^{-} π$: Determination of $α$ without discrete ambiguity

Direct CP violation in the hadronic decays $\Bar{B}^{0} \to π^{+}π^{-} π^{0}$ is investigated near the peak of the $ρ^{0}$ taking into account the effect of $ρ- ω$ mixing. Branching ratios for processes $B^{\pm,0} \to ρ^{\pm,0}π^{\pm,0}$ and $B^{-} \to ωπ^{-}$ are calculated as well. We find that the CP violating asymmetry is strongly dependent on the CKM matrix elements. For a fixed $N_{c}^{eff}$, the CP violating asymmetry, $a$, has a maximum of order -40% to -70% for $\Bar{B}^{0} \to ρ^{0}(ω) π^{0}$ when the invariant mass of the $π^{+}π^{-}$ pair is in the vicinity of the $ω$ resonance. The sensitivity of the asymmetry to $N_{c}^{eff}$ is small in that case. Moreover, we find that in the range of $N_{c}^{eff}$ which is allowed by the most recent experimental branching ratios from the BABAR, BELLE and CLEO Collaborations, the sign of $\sin δ$ is always positive. Thus, a measurement of direct CP violation in decays $\Bar{B}^{0} \to π^{+}π^{-} π^{0}$ would remove the mod$(π)$ ambiguity in the determination of the CP violating phase angle $α$.

Enhanced direct CP violation in $B^{\pm,0} \to π^{+} π^{-} K^{\pm,0}$

We investigate in a phenomenological way, direct CP violation in the hadronic decays $B^{\pm,0} \to π^{+} π^{-} K^{\pm,0}$ where the effect of $ρ- ω$ mixing is included. If $N_{c}^{eff}$ (the effective parameter associated with factorization) is constrained using the most recent experimental branching ratios (to $ρ^{0}K^{0}, ρ^{\pm}K^{\mp}, ρ^{\pm}K^{0}, ρ^{0} K^{\pm}$ and $ωK^{\pm}$) from the BABAR, BELLE and CLEO Collaborations, we get a maximum CP violating asymmetry, $a_{max}$, in the range -25% to $+49%$ for $B^{-} \to π^{+}π^{-} K^{-}$ and -24% to $+55%$ for ${\Bar B}^{0} \to π^{+}π^{-} {\Bar K}^{0}$. We also find that CP violation is strongly dependent on the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements. Finally, we show that the sign of $\sin δ$ is always positive in the allowed range of $N_{c}^{eff}$ and hence, a measurement of direct $CP$ violation in $B^{\pm,0} \to π^{+} π^{-} K^{\pm,0}$ would remove the mod$(π)$ ambiguity in ${\rm arg}[ - \frac{V_{ts}V_{tb}^{\star}}{V_{us}V_{ub}^{\star}}]$.

Enhanced Direct CP Violation in $B^{\pm} \to ρ^{0} π^{\pm}$

We study direct CP violation in the hadronic decay $B^{\pm} \to ρ^{0}π^{\pm}$, including the effect of $ρ- ω$ mixing. We find that the CP violating asymmetry is strongly dependent on the CKM matrix elements, especially the Wolfenstein parameter $η$. For fixed $N_{c}$ (the effective parameter associated with factorization), the CP violating asymmetry, $a$, has a maximum of order $30%-50%$ when the invariant mass of the $π^{+}π^{-}$ pair is in the vicinity of the $ω$ resonance. The sensitivity of the asymmetry, $a$, to $N_{c}$ is small. Moreover, if $N_{c}$ is constrained using the latest experimental branching ratios from the CLEO collaboration, we find that the sign of $\sin δ$ is always positive. Thus, a measurement of direct CP violation in $B^{\pm} \to ρ^{0}π^{\pm}$ would remove the mod$(π)$ ambiguity in ${\rm arg}[ - \frac{V_{td}V_{tb}^{\star}}{V_{ud}V_{ub}^{\star}}]$.
