Distance to the Dorado galaxy group

Based on the archival images of the Hubble Space Telescope, stellar photometry of the brightest galaxies of the Dorado group: NGC 1433, NGC 1533, NGC 1566 and NGC 1672 was carried out. Red giants were found on the obtained CM diagrams and distances to the galaxies were measured using the TRGB method. The obtained values: $14.2\pm 1.2$, $15.1\pm 0.9$, $14.9 \pm 1.0$ and $15.9\pm 0.9$~Mpc, show that all the named galaxies are located approximately at the same distances and form a scattered group with an average distance $D = 15.0$ Mpc. It was found that blue and red supergiants are visible in the hydrogen arm between the galaxies NGC 1533 and IC 2038, and form a ring structure in the lenticular galaxy NGC 1533, at a distance of 3.6 kpc from the center. The high metallicity of these stars ($Z = 0.02$) indicates their origin from NGC 1533 gas.

The distance to the giant elliptical galaxy M87 and the size of its stellar subsystem

Stellar photometry in nine fields around the giant elliptical galaxy M87 in the Virgo cluster is obtained from archival images of the Hubble Space Telescope. The resulting Hertzsprung--Russell diagrams show populated red-giant and AGB branches. The position of the tip of the red-giant branch (the TRGB discontinuity) is found to vary with galactocentric distance. This variation can be interpreted as the effect of metal-rich red giants on the procedure of the measurement of the TRGB discontinuity or as a consequence of the existence of a weak gas-and-dust cloud around M87 extending out to $10^\prime$ along the galactocentric radius and causing $I$-band absorption of up to $0.^m2$ near the center of the galaxy. The TRGB stars located far from the M87 center yield an average distance modulus of $(m-M) = 30.91\pm0.08$, which corresponds to the distance of $D=15.4\pm0.6$ Mpc. It is shown that stars in the field located between M86 and M87 galaxies at angular separations of $37^\prime$ and $40^\prime$ are not intergalactic stars, but belong to the M87 galaxy, i.e., that the stellar halo of this galaxy can be clearly seen at a galactocentric distance of 190 kpc. The distances are measured to four dwarf galaxies P4anon, NGC4486A, VCCA039, and dSph-D07, whose images can be seen in the fields studied. The first three galaxies are M87 satellites, whereas dSph-D07 is located at a greater distance and is a member of the M86 group.

Distance to the galaxy IC 342

Based on archival Hubble Space Telescope images, we have performed stellar photometry for a region of the spiral galaxy IC 342 located in the Milky Way zone. On the constructed Hertzsprung-Russell diagram, we have identified the red giant branch and determined the distance modulus for the galaxy by the TRGB (tip of the red giant branch) method, (m - M) = 27.97+/-0.10, which corresponds to D = 3.93+/-0.10 Mpc. The estimated distance puts IC 342 spatially close to the galaxy Maffei 1 (D = 4.1 Mpc) and allows these galaxies to be considered the center of a single group.

Stellar Population of the Irregular Galaxy IC 10

Based on our observations with the 6-m BTA telescope at the Special Astrophysical Observatory, the Russian Academy of Sciences, and archival Hubble Space Telescope images, we have performed stellar photometry for several regions of the irregular galaxy IC 10, a member of the Local Group. Distance moduli with a median value of (m-M)=24.47, D=780+/-40 kpc, have been obtained by the TRGB method for several regions of IC 10. We have revealed 57 star clusters with various masses and ages within the fields used. Comparison of the Hertzsprung - Russell diagrams for star clusters in IC 10 with theoretical isochrones has shown that this galaxy has an enhanced metallicity, which probably explains the high ratio of the numbers of carbon and nitrogen Wolf-Rayet stars (WC/WN). The size of the galaxy's thick disk along its minor axis is 10'.5 and a more extended halo is observed outside this disk.

Stellar Subsystems of the Galaxy NGC 2366

Hubble Space Telescope archive data are used to perform photometry of stars in seven fields at the center and periphery of the galaxy NGC2366. The variation of the number density of stars of various ages with galactocentric radius and along the minor axis of the galaxy are determined. The boundaries of the thin and thick disks of the galaxy are found. The inferred sizes of the subsystems of NGC2366 ($Z_{thin} = 4$ kpc and $Z_{thick} = 8$ kpc for the thin and thick disks, respectively) are more typical for spiral galaxies. Evidence for a stellar halo is found at the periphery of NGC2366 beyond the thick disk of the galaxy.
