Binary Galton-Watson trees with mutations

We consider a multitype Galton-Watson process that allows for the mutation and reversion of individual types in discrete and continuous time. In this setting, we explicitly compute the time evolution of quantities such as the mean and distributions of different types. This allows us in particular to estimate the proportions of different types in the long run, as well as the distribution of the first time of occurrence of a given type as the tree size or time increases. Our approach relies on the recursive computation of the joint distribution of types conditionally to the value of the total progeny. In comparison with the literature on related multitype models, we do not rely on approximations.

Asymptotic analysis of k-hop connectivity in the 1D unit disk random graph model

We propose an algorithm for the closed-form recursive computation of joint moments and cumulants of all orders for k-hop counts in the 1D unit disk random graph model with Poisson distributed vertices. Our approach uses decompositions of k-hop counts into multiple Poisson stochastic integrals. As a consequence, using the Stein method we derive Berry-Esseen bounds for the asymptotic convergence of renormalized k-hop path counts to the normal distribution as the density of Poisson vertices tends to infinity. Computer codes for the recursive symbolic computation of moments and cumulants are provided in appendix.

Normal approximation of compound Hawkes functionals

We derive quantitative bounds in the Wasserstein distance for the approximation of stochastic integrals with respect to Hawkes processes by a normally distributed random variable. In the case of deterministic and non-negative integrands, our estimates involve only the third moment of integrand in addition to a variance term using a square norm of the integrand. As a consequence, we are able to observe a "third moment phenomenon" in which the vanishing of the first cumulant can lead to faster convergence rates. Our results are also applied to compound Hawkes processes, and improve on the current literature where estimates may not converge to zero in large time, or have been obtained only for specific kernels such as the exponential or Erlang kernels.

Numerical evaluation of ODE solutions by Monte Carlo enumeration of Butcher series

We present an algorithm for the numerical solution of ordinary differential equations by random enumeration of the Butcher trees used in the implementation of the Runge-Kutta method. Our Monte Carlo scheme allows for the direct numerical evaluation of an ODE solution at any given time within a certain interval, without iteration through multiple time steps. In particular, this approach does not involve a discretization step size, and it does not require the truncation of Taylor series.

Stochastic ordering by g-expectations

We derive sufficient conditions for the convex and monotonic g-stochastic ordering of diffusion processes under nonlinear g-expectations and g-evaluations. Our approach relies on comparison results for forward-backward stochastic differential equations and on several extensions of convexity, monotonicity and continuous dependence properties for the solutions of associated semilinear parabolic partial differential equations. Applications to contingent claim price comparison under different hedging portfolio constraints are provided.

Integrability and regularity of the flow of stochastic differential equations with jumps

We derive sufficient conditions for the differentiability of all orders for the flow of stochastic differential equations with jumps, and prove related $L^p$-integrability results for all orders. Our results extend similar results obtained in [Kun04] for first order differentiability and rely on the Burkholder-Davis-Gundy inequality for time inhomogeneous Poisson random measures on ${\Bbb R}_+\times {\Bbb R}$, for which we provide a new proof.

Moments of Markovian growth-collapse processes

We apply general moment identities for Poisson stochastic integrals with random integrands to the computation of the moments of Markovian growth-collapse processes. This extends existing formulas for mean and variance available in the literature to closed form moments expressions of all orders. In comparison with other methods based on differential equations, our approach yields polynomial expressions in the time parameter. We also treat the case of the associated embedded chain.

Normal approximation for generalized U-statistics and weighted random graphs

We derive normal approximation bounds in the Wasserstein distance for sums of weighted U-statistics, based on a general distance bound for functionals of independent random variables of arbitrary distributions. Those bounds are applied to normal approximation for the combined weights of subgraphs in the Erdős-Rényi random graph, extending the graph counting results of [1] to the setting of graph weighting. Our approach relies on a general stochastic analytic framework for functionals of independent random sequences.

Stochastic SIR Levy jump model with heavy tailed increments

This paper considers a general stochastic SIR epidemic model driven by a multidimensional Levy jump process with heavy tailed increments and possible correlation between noise components. In this framework, we derive new sufficient conditions for disease extinction and persistence in the mean. Our method differs from previous approaches by the use of Kunita's inequality instead of the Burkholder-Davis-Gundy inequality for continuous processes, and allows for the treatment of infinite Levy measures by the definition of new threshold values. An SIR model driven by a tempered stable process is presented as an example of application with the ability to model sudden disease outbreak, illustrated by numerical simulations. The results show that persistence and extinction are dependent not only on the variance of the processes increments, but also on the shapes of their distributions.

Selling at the ultimate maximum in a regime switching model

This paper deals with optimal prediction in a regime-switching model driven by a continuous-time Markov chain. We extend existing results for geometric Brownian motion by deriving optimal stopping strategies that depend on the current regime state, and prove a number of continuity properties relating to optimal value and boundary functions. Our approach replaces the use of closed form expressions, which are not available in our setting, with PDE arguments that also simplify the approach of [2] in the classical Brownian case.

Supermodular ordering of binomial, Poisson and Gaussian random vectors by tree-based correlations

We construct a tree-based dependence structure for the representation of binomial, Poisson and Gaussian random vectors having a given covariance matrix, using sums of independent random variables. This construction allows us to characterize the supermodular ordering of such random vectors via the componentwise ordering of their covariance matrices. Our method relies on the representation of dependent components using binary trees on the discrete $d$-dimensional hypercube $C_d$, and on Möbius inversion techniques. In the case of Poisson random vectors this approach involves Lévy measures on $C_d$, and it is consistent with the approximation of Poisson and multivariate Gaussian random vectors by binomial vectors.

Performance Analysis of Ambient RF Energy Harvesting with Repulsive Point Process Modeling

Ambient RF (Radio Frequency) energy harvesting technique has recently been proposed as a potential solution to provide proactive energy replenishment for wireless devices. This paper aims to analyze the performance of a battery-free wireless sensor powered by ambient RF energy harvesting using a stochastic geometry approach. Specifically, we consider the point-to-point uplink transmission of a wireless sensor in a stochastic geometry network, where ambient RF sources, such as mobile transmit devices, access points and base stations, are distributed as a Ginibre alpha-determinantal point process (DPP). The DPP is able to capture repulsion among points, and hence, it is more general than the Poisson point process (PPP). We analyze two common receiver architectures: separated receiver and time-switching architectures. For each architecture, we consider the scenarios with and without co-channel interference for information transmission. We derive the expectation of the RF energy harvesting rate in closed form and also compute its variance. Moreover, we perform a worst-case study which derives the upper bound of both power and transmission outage probabilities. Additionally, we provide guidelines on the setting of optimal time-switching coefficient in the case of the time-switching architecture. Numerical results verify the correctness of the analysis and show various tradeoffs between parameter setting. Lastly, we prove that the sensor is more efficient when the distribution of the ambient sources exhibits stronger repulsion.

Performance Analysis of Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer with Ambient RF Energy Harvesting

The advance in RF energy transfer and harvesting technique over the past decade has enabled wireless energy replenishment for electronic devices, which is deemed as a promising alternative to address the energy bottleneck of conventional battery-powered devices. In this paper, by using a stochastic geometry approach, we aim to analyze the performance of an RF-powered wireless sensor in a downlink simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) system with ambient RF transmitters. Specifically, we consider the point-to-point downlink SWIPT transmission from an access point to a wireless sensor in a network, where ambient RF transmitters are distributed as a Ginibre ?$α$-determinantal point process (DPP), which becomes the Poisson point process when $α$? approaches zero. In the considered network, we focus on analyzing the performance of a sensor equipped with the power-splitting architecture. Under this architecture, we characterize the expected RF energy harvesting rate of the sensor. Moreover, we derive the upper bound of both power and transmission outage probabilities. Numerical results show that our upper bounds are accurate for different value of ?$α$.

Stochastic dynamics of determinantal processes by integration by parts

We derive an integration by parts formula for functionals of determinantal processes on compact sets, completing the arguments of [4]. This is used to show the existence of a configuration-valued diffusion process which is non-colliding and admits the distribution of the determinantal process as reversible law. In particular, this approach allows us to build a concrete example of the associated diffusion process, providing an illustration of the results of [4] and [30].

On the integral representations of $|Γ(z)|^2$ and its Fourier transform

We derive integral representations in terms of the Macdonald functions for the square modulus $s\mapsto | Γ( a + i s ) |^2$ of the Gamma function and its Fourier transform when $a<0$ and $a\not= -1,-2,\ldots $, generalizing known results in the case $a>0$. This representation is based on a renormalization argument using modified Bessel functions of the second kind, and it applies to the representation of the solutions of the Fokker-Planck equation.

Performance Analysis of Ambient RF Energy Harvesting: A Stochastic Geometry Approach

Ambient RF (Radio Frequency) energy harvesting technique has recently been proposed as a potential solution to provide proactive energy replenishment for wireless devices. This paper aims to analyze the performance of a battery-free wireless sensor powered by ambient RF energy harvesting using a stochastic-geometry approach. Specifically, we consider a random network model in which ambient RF sources are distributed as a Ginibre $α$-determinantal point process which recovers the Poisson point process when alpha? approaches zero. We characterize the expected RF energy harvesting rate.We also perform a worst-case study which derives the upper bounds of both power outage and transmission outage probabilities. Numerical results show that our upper bounds are accurate and that better performance is achieved when the distribution of ambient sources exhibits stronger repulsion.

Feynman-Kac formula for Levy processes and semiclassical (Euclidean) momentum representation

We prove a version of the Feynman-Kac formula for Levy processes and integro-differential operators, with application to the momentum representation of suitable quantum (Euclidean) systems whose Hamiltonians involve Lévy-type potentials. Large deviation techniques are used to obtain the limiting behavior of the systems as the Planck constant approaches zero. It turns out that the limiting behavior coincides with fresh aspects of the semiclassical limit of (Euclidean) quantum mechanics. Non-trivial examples of Levy processes are considered as illustrations and precise asymptotics are given for the terms in both configuration and momentum representations.

Hedging in bond markets by the Clark-Ocone formula

Hedging strategies in bond markets are computed by martingale representation and the Clark-Ocone formula under the choice of a suitable of numeraire, in a model driven by the dynamics of bond prices. Applications are given to the hedging of swaptions and other interest rate derivatives, and our approach is compared to delta hedging when the underlying swap rate is modeled by a diffusion process.

Mixing of Poisson random measures under interacting transformations

We derive sufficient conditions for the mixing of all orders of interacting transformations of a spatial Poisson point process, under a zero-type condition in probability and a generalized adaptedness condition. This extends a classical result in the case of deterministic transformations of Poisson measures. The approach relies on moment and covariance identities for Poisson stochastic integrals with random integrands.

Invariance of Poisson measures under random transformations

We prove that Poisson measures are invariant under (random) intensity preserving transformations whose finite difference gradient satisfies a cyclic vanishing condition. The proof relies on moment identities of independent interest for adapted and anticipating Poisson stochastic integrals, and is inspired by the method applied in [22] on the Wiener space, although the corresponding algebra is more complex than in the Wiener case. The examples of application include transformations conditioned by random sets such as the convex hull of a Poisson random measure.
