Quantum Gravity signatures in the Unruh effect

We study quantum gravity signatures emerging from phenomenologically motivated multiscale models, spectral actions, and Causal Set Theory within the detector approach to the Unruh effect. We show that while the Unruh temperature is unaffected, Lorentz-invariant corrections to the two-point function leave a characteristic fingerprint in the induced emission rate of the accelerated detector. Generically, quantum gravity models exhibiting dynamical dimensional reduction exhibit a suppression of the Unruh rate at high energy while the rate is enhanced in Kaluza-Klein theories with compact extra dimensions. We quantify this behavior by introducing the "Unruh dimension" as the effective spacetime dimension seen by the Unruh effect and show that it is related, though not identical, to the spectral dimension used to characterize spacetime in quantum gravity. We comment on the physical origins of these effects and their relevance for black hole evaporation.

Black holes in Asymptotically Safe Gravity

Black holes are among the most fascinating objects populating our universe. Their characteristic features, encompassing spacetime singularities, event horizons, and black hole thermodynamics, provide a rich testing ground for quantum gravity ideas. In this note we observe that the renormalization group improved Schwarzschild black holes constructed by Bonanno and Reuter within Weinberg's asymptotic safety program constitute a prototypical example of a Hayward geometry used to model non-singular black holes within quantum gravity phenomenology. Moreover, they share many features of a Planck star: their effective geometry naturally incorporates the one-loop corrections found in the effective field theory framework, their Kretschmann scalar is bounded, and the black hole singularity is replaced by a regular de Sitter patch. The role of the cosmological constant in the renormalization group improvement process is briefly discussed.

Spectral dimensions from the spectral action

The generalised spectral dimension $D_{ S}(T)$ provides a powerful tool for comparing different approaches to quantum gravity. In this work, we apply this formalism to the classical spectral actions obtained within the framework of almost-commutative geometry. Analysing the propagation of spin-0, spin-1 and spin-2 fields, we show that a non-trivial spectral dimension arises already at the classical level. The effective field theory interpretation of the spectral action yields plateau-structures interpolating between a fixed spin-independent $D_{ S}(T) = d_S$ for short and $D_{ S}(T) = 4$ for long diffusion times $T$. Going beyond effective field theory the spectral dimension is completely dominated by the high-momentum properties of the spectral action, yielding $D_{ S}(T)=0$ for all spins. Our results support earlier claims that high-energy bosons do not propagate.

The non-perturbative BRST quartet mechanism in Landau gauge QCD: Ghost-gluon and ghost-quark bound states

The non-perturbative BRST quartet mechanism in infrared Landau gauge QCD is presented. It is demonstrated that positivity violation for transverse gluons allows to identify the gluon's non-perturbative BRST quartet. To describe the respective BRST-daughter state a truncated Bethe-Salpeter equation for the gluon-ghost bound state is investigated. An analogous construction for quarks yields a truncated Bethe-Salpeter equation for the quark-ghost bound state. The gluon-ghost bound state equation in two space-time dimensions has been numerically solved.

Features of ghost-gluon and ghost-quark bound states related to BRST quartets

The BRST quartet mechanism in infrared Landau gauge QCD is investigated. Based on the observed positivity violation for transverse gluons $A_{\mathrm {tr}}$ the field content of the non-perturbative BRST quartet generated by $A_{\mathrm {tr}}$ is derived. To identify the gluon's BRST-daughter state as well as the Faddeev-Popov--charge conjugated second parent state, a truncated Bethe-Salpeter equation for the gluon-ghost bound state in the adjoint colour representation is derived and studied. This equation is found to be compatible with the so-called scaling solutions of functional approaches. Repeating the same construction for quarks instead of $A_{\mathrm {tr}}$ leads in a similar way to a truncated Bethe-Salpeter equation for the quark-ghost bound state in the fundamental representation. Within the scaling solution the infrared divergence of the quark-gluon vertex is exactly the right one to make this Bethe-Salpeter equation infrared consistent.

Ghost-gluon and ghost-quark bound states and their role in BRST quartets

A non-perturbative version of the BRST quartet mechanism in infrared Landau gauge QCD is proposed for transverse gluons and quarks. Based on the positivity violation for transverse gluons the content of the respective non-perturbative BRST quartet is derived. To identify the gluon's BRST-daughter and second parent state, a truncated Bethe-Salpeter equation for the gluon-(anti-)ghost bound state is investigated. We comment shortly on several equivalent forms of this equation. Repeating the same construction for quarks leads to a truncated Bethe-Salpeter equation for a fundamentally charged quark-(anti-)ghost bound state. It turns out that a cardinal input to this equation is given by the fully dressed quark-gluon vertex, and that it is indispensable to dress the quark-gluon vertex in this equation in order to obtain a consistent truncation.

The non-perturbative BRST quartets generated by transverse gluons or quarks in Landau gauge

The BRST quartet mechanism is briefly reviewed. A special emphasis is given to the distinction of perturbative versus non-perturbative quartets. The field contents of the non-perturbative BRST quartets generated by transverse gluons or quarks in Landau gauge are presented. Corresponding truncated Bethe-Salpeter equations for the respective first daughter and second parent states are derived. It is discussed in which sense these equations provide evidence for the existence of bound states as daughter states in non-perturbative BRST quartets. It is noted that within the scaling solution of functional approaches the infrared divergence of the quark-gluon vertex is exactly the right one tomake the respective Bethe-Salpeter equation infrared consistent.
