Flavour-alignment in an $S_3$-symmetric Higgs sector and its RG-behaviour

A three Higgs-doublet model admitting an $S_3$-symmetry can predict the observed pattern of the quark masses and their mixings. However the same symmetry also introduces potential flavour-changing neutral currents at the tree level. We assume in this work that the scalar potential contains appropriate \emph{soft} $S_3$-breaking terms in order to keep the choices of the scalar masses flexible. We identify the parameters in the Yukawa Lagrangian in the quark sector responsible for such FCNCs and constrain them using data from some of the flavour physics observables like meson-decays and meson-mixings. We also validate the corresponding model parameter space with renormalisation group (RG) evaluation.

Muon $g-2$ and $W$-mass in a framework of colored scalars: an LHC perspective

A color octet isodoublet can have esoteric origins and it complies with minimal flavour violation. In this study, we take a scenario where the well known Type-X Two-Higgs doublet model is augmented with a color octet isodoublet. We shed light on how such a setup can predict the recently observed value for the $W$-boson mass. We also evaluate the two-loop Barr-Zee contributions to muon $g-2$ stemming from the colored scalars. The parameter space compatible with the observed muon $g-2$ gets relaxed w.r.t. what it is in the pure Type-X 2HDM by virtue of the contribution from the colored scalars. The extended parameter region therefore successfully accounts for both the $W$-mass and muon $g-2$ anomalies successfully. Finally, a collider signature leading to $τ^+ τ^- b \bar{b}$ final state is explored at the 14 TeV LHC using both cut-based and multivariate techniques. Such a signal can confirm the existence of both colorless as well colored scalars that are introduced by this framework.

Muon g-2 in a Type-X 2HDM assisted by inert scalars: probing at the LHC

A scenario augmenting the well known Type-X Two-Higgs doublet model (2HDM) with an additional inert doublet is proposed. The Type-X 2HDM is known to offer a solution to the muon $g-2$ anomaly for a light pseudoscalar. We show that the proposed framework can accomodate a heavier pseudoscalar on account of two-loop Barr-Zee (BZ) contributions to muon $g-2$ stemming from the inert doublet. We subsequently explore an interesting $τ^+τ^- + $ missing transverse energy signal that can be used to probe the present scenario at the 14 TeV LHC.

The muon $g-2$ and $W$-mass anomalies explained and the electroweak vacuum stabilised by extending the minimal Type-II seesaw

The recent precise measurement of the $W$-mass by the CDF II collaboration is indicative of new physics beyond the Standard Model. On the other hand, a resolution of the longstanding muon $g-2$ anomaly also calls for additional dynamics. In this work, we accommodate the two aforementioned anomalies in an extension of the minimal Type-II seesaw model. That is, the minimal Type-II model is augmented with an additional doubly charged scalar and vector leptons. While a chirality-flip of the vector leptons can predict the observed value of muon $g-2$, the value of the recently reported $W$-mass can also be simultaneously achieved through the oblique parameters of the model. In addition, we further show that the parameter region allowing for the simultaneous resolution of the two anomalies complies with the neutrino mass data, lepton flavour violation and electroweak vacuum stability up to the Planck scale.

Two Component Doublet-Triplet Scalar Dark Matter stabilising the Electroweak vacuum

A two-component scalar DM scenario comprising an additional scalar doublet and a $Y$ = 0 scalar triplet is proposed. Key features of the ensuing dark matter phenomenology are highlighted with emphasis on inter-conversion between the two dark matter components. For suitable choices of the model parameters, we show that such inter-conversion can explain the observed relic abundance when the doublet dark matter component has mass in the \emph{desert} region while the triplet component has sub-TeV mass. This finding is important in the context of such mass regions known to predict under-abundant relic for the standalone cases of the scalar doublet and triplet. In addition, we also show that the present scenario can stabilise the electroweak vacuum up to the Planck scale in the parameter space responsible for the requisite dark matter observables.

Impact of dark scalars on the radiative $H^+ W^- Z$ vertex

An $H^+ W^- Z$ vertex, i.e, the interaction connecting a singly charged physical scalar to the $W^\pm,~Z$ gauge bosons is absent at the tree level in a scalar sector comprising only $SU(2)_L$ doublets. However, the interaction can be generated radiatively in such a case, an example of which is a two-Higgs doublet model. In this study, we extend a two-Higgs doublet scenario by additional $SU(2)_L$ scalar doublets. Upon endowing with appropriate discrete symmetries, these additional doublets so introduced can furnish successful candidates of dark matter. Interestingly, the same "dark" scalars can also radiatively enhance the strength of the $H^+ W^- Z$ interaction. We compute the $H^+ W^- Z$ vertex at one-loop in a non-linear gauge that eliminates certain unphysical interactions. While all possible constraints are taken into account in doing so, particular emphasis is given to the ones stemming from dark matter. Correlations between the dark matter observables and the $H^+ W^- Z$ interaction-strength are studied. The study thus connects a radiatively generated $H^+ W^- Z$ vertex to dark matter phenomenology.

Multicomponent dark matter in extended $U(1)_{B-L}$: neutrino mass and high scale validity

Standard Model with right handed neutrinos charged under additional $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge symmetry offer solutions to both dark matter (DM) problem and neutrino mass generation, although constrained severely from relic density, direct search and Higgs vacuum stability. We therefore investigate a multicomponent DM scenario augmented by an extra inert scalar doublet, that is neutral under $U(1)_{B-L}$, which aids to enlarge parameter space allowed by DM constraints and Higgs vacuum stability. The lightest right-handed neutrino and the $CP$-even inert scalar are taken as the dark matter candidates and constitute a two component dark matter framework as they are rendered stable by an unbroken $\mathbb{Z}_2 \times \mathbb{Z}_2^\prime$ symmetry. DM-DM conversion processes turn out crucial to render requisite relic abundance in mass regions of the RH neutrino that do not appear in the stand-alone $U(1)_{B-L}$ scenario. In addition, the one-loop renormalisation group (RG) equations in this model demonstrate that the electroweak (EW) vacuum can be stabilised till $\sim 10^{9}$ GeV in a parameter region compatible with the observed relic, the direct detection bound and other relevant constraints.

High-scale validity of a model with Three-Higgs-doublets

We consider a three-Higgs doublet scenario in this paper, invariant under the discrete group S3 , and probe its high-scale validity by allowing the model parameters to evolve under a renormalization group. We choose two particular alignments of vacuum expectation values (vev) for our study, out of a set of several such possible ones. All three doublets receive nonzero vacuum expectation values in the first case, and in the second case, two of the doublets remain without vev. The constraints on the parameter space at low energy, including the measured value of the Higgs mass and the signal strengths, oblique corrections and also measurements of relic density and direct detection rates are juxtaposed with the conditions of vacuum stability, perturbativity and unitarity at various scales. We find that the scenario with three nonzero vevs is not valid beyond 107 GeV, assuming no additional physics participates at the intermediate scales. On the contrary, the scenario with only one nonzero vev turns out to be a successful model for cold dark matter phenomenology, which also turns out to be valid up to the Planck scale at the same time. Stringent restrictions are obtained on the model parameter space in each case. Thus, the S3 symmetric scalar sector emerges as an ultraviolet complete theory.

Phenomenological signatures of additional scalar bosons at the LHC

We investigate the search prospects for new scalars beyond the Standard Model (SM) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In these studies two real scalars $S$ and $χ$ have been introduced in a two Higgs doublet model (2HDM), where $S$ is a portal to dark matter (DM) through its interaction with $χ$, a DM candidate and a possible source of missing transverse energy (\MET). Previous studies focused on a heavy scalar $H$ decay mode $H \to hχχ$, which was studied using an effective theory in order to explain a distortion in the Higgs ($h$) transverse momentum spectrum [16]. In this work, the effective decay is understood more deeply by including a mediator $S$, and the focus is changed to $H \to h S,~SS$ with $S \to χχ$. Phenomenological signatures of all the new scalars in the proposed 2HDM are discussed in the energy regime of the LHC, and their mass bounds have been set accordingly. Additionally, we have performed several analyses with final states including leptons and \MET, with $H \to 4 W$, $t\bar t H \to 6 W$ and $A \to ZH$ channels, in order to understand the impact these scalars have on current searches.

Phenomenology of additional scalar bosons at the LHC

The confirmation of the Higgs boson in Run I data at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the excesses in recent Run II data suggest scenarios beyond the Standard Model (SM). We pursue a study in a minimal model which is an extension of a scalar doublet in the SM known as two-Higgs doublet model (THDM). Following earlier suggestions two real scalars $χ$ and $S$ have been introduced in the THDM where $χ$ is treated as a candidate for dark matter. $χ$ does not receive any vacuum expectation value ($vev$) in the model whereas the Higgs-like scalar $S$ acquires $vev$. This allows small mixing between the $CP$-even scalars of the THDM, $h$, $H$ and $S$. In this study the mass spectrum of new scalars is taken to be $2 m_h < m_H < 2 m_t$, $m_χ< m_h/2$, $m_h \lesssim m_S \lesssim m_H - m_h$, $m_A > 2 m_t$ and $m_H^\pm < m_A$, where $m_h$ and $m_t$ is masses of the SM Higgs and top-quark respectively, $m_H, m_A$ and $m_{H^\pm}$ are the masses of the heavy $CP$-even scalar $H$, $CP$-odd scalar $A$, and charged Higgs $H^\pm$, respectively. A partial list of potential search channels at the LHC has been provided with possible phenomenological consequences. The expected phenomenology and constraints on parameters are also discussed in a model-independent approach .

Dark matter, neutrino masses and high scale validity of an inert Higgs doublet model

We consider a two-Higgs doublet scenario containing three $SU(2)_L$ singlet heavy neutrinos with Majorana masses. The second scalar doublet as well as the neutrinos are odd under a $Z_2$ symmetry. This scenario not only generates Majorana masses for the light neutrinos radiatively but also makes the lighter of the neutral $Z_2$-odd scalars an eligible dark matter candidate, in addition to triggering leptogenesis at the scale of the heavy neutrino masses. Taking two representative values of this mass scale, we identify the allowed regions of the parameter space of the model, which are consistent with all dark matter constraints. At the same time, the running of quartic couplings in the scalar potential to high scales is studied, thus subjecting the regions consistent with dark matter constraints to further requirements of vacuum stability, perturbativity and unitarity. It is found that part of the parameter space is consistent with all of these requirements all the way up to the Planck scale, and also yields the correct signal strength in the diphoton channel for the scalar observed at the Large Hadron Collider.

High-scale validity of a two-Higgs doublet scenario: a study including LHC data

We consider the conditions for the validity of a two-Higgs doublet model at high energy scales, together with all other low- and high-energy constraints. The constraints on the parameter space at low energy, including the measured value of the Higgs mass and the signal strengths in channels are juxtaposed with the conditions of vacuum stability, perturbativity and unitarity at various scales. We find that a scenario with an exact $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry in the potential cannot be valid beyond about 10 TeV without the intervention of additional physics. On the other hand, when the $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry is broken, the theory can be valid even up to the Planck scale without any new physics coming in. The interesting feature we point out is that such high-scale validity is irrespective of the uncertainty in the top quark mass as well as $α_{s}(M_Z)$, in contrast with the standard model with a single Higgs doublet. It is also shown that the presence of a CP-violating phase is allowed when the $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry is relaxed. The allowed regions in the parameter space are presented for each case. The results are illustrated in the context of a Type-II scenario.

The compatibility of LHC Run 1 data with a heavy scalar of mass around 270\,GeV

The first run of the LHC was successful in that it saw the discovery of the elusive Higgs boson, a particle that is consistent with the SM hypothesis. There are a number of excesses in Run 1 ATLAS and CMS results which can be interpreted as being due to the existence of another heavier scalar particle. This particle has decay modes which we have studied using LHC Run 1 data. Using a minimalistic model, we can predict the kinematics of these final states and compare the prediction against data directly. A statistical combination of these results shows that a best fit point is found for a heavy scalar having a mass of 272$^{+12}_{-9}$\,GeV. This result has been quantified as a three sigma effect, based on analyses which are not necessarily optimized for the search of a heavy scalar. The smoking guns for the discovery of this new heavy scalar and the prospects for Run 2 are discussed.

Radiative Return for Heavy Higgs Boson at a Muon Collider

Higgs boson properties could be studied with a high accuracy at a muon collider via the s-channel resonant production. We consider the situation where the center-of-mass energy of the muon collider is off the resonance above the Higgs mass. We discuss the discovery potential for a generic heavy Higgs boson ($H$) and compare different production mechanisms, including the "radiative return" ($γH$), $Z$-boson associated production ($ZH$) and heavy Higgs pair production ($HA$). These production mechanisms do not sensitively rely on a priori knowledge of the heavy Higgs boson mass. We include various types of Two Higgs Doublet Models for the comparison. We conclude that the radiative return process could provide an important option for both the heavy Higgs discovery and direct measurement of invisible decays at a high energy muon collider.
