I=2 $π$-$π$ scattering length with dynamical overlap fermion

We report on a lattice QCD calculation of the I=2 $ππ$ scattering length using the overlap fermion formulation for both sea and valence quarks. We investigate the consistency of the lattice data with the prediction of the next-to-next-to-leading order chiral perturbation theory after correcting finite volume effects. The calculation is performed on gauge ensembles of two-flavor QCD generated by the JLQCD collaboration on a $16^3\times 32$ lattice at a lattice spacing $\sim$ 0.12 fm.

Chiral phase transition in a random matrix model with three flavors

The chiral phase transition in the conventional random matrix model is the second order in the chiral limit, irrespective of the number of flavors N_f, because it lacks the U_A(1)-breaking determinant interaction term. Furthermore, it predicts an unphysical value of zero for the topological susceptibility at finite temperatures. We propose a new chiral random matrix model which resolves these difficulties by incorporating the determinant interaction term within the instanton gas picture. The model produces a second-order transition for N_f=2 and a first-order transition for N_f=3, and recovers a physical temperature dependence of the topological susceptibility.

Color Ferromagnetic Quark Matter in Neutron Stars

We show that color ferromagnetic phase of quark matter is energetically more favored than color superconducting phases in neutron stars. Namely, increasing baryon density in neutron stars transforms nuclear matter into the quark matter of the color ferromagnetic phase. Further increase of the density makes the quark matter take the color superconducting phases. We find that a critical mass of the neutron star with such an internal structure is about $1.6M_{\odot}$. We stress that analysis of gluon dynamics is crucial for exploring dense quark matter.

Skyrmions coupled with the electromagnetic field via the gauged Wess-Zumino term

In soliton models expressed in terms of the non-linear chiral field, the electric current has an anomalous gauge-field contribution as the baryon current does. We study the spin polarized Skyrmions coupled with the electromagnetic field via the gauged Wess-Zumino term and calculate configurations of the Skyrmion and the gauge field with boundary conditions to ensure the physical charge number for baryons. Although the electromagnetic field via the gauged Wess-Zumino term affects physical quantities in small amounts, we find that the magnetic field forms a dipole structure owing to a circular electric current around the spin quantization axis of the soliton. This is understood on an analogy with the Meissner effect in the super conductor. The electric charge distributions turn out to have characteristic structures depending on the total charge, which suggests the intrinsic deformation of baryons due to orbital motions of the constituents.

Two-pion bound state in sigma channel at finite temperature

We study how we can understand the change of the spectral function and the pole location of the correlation function for sigma at finite temperature, which were previously obtained in the linear sigma model with a resummation technique called optimized perturbation theory. There are two relevant poles in the sigma channel. One pole is the original sigma pole which shows up as a broad peak at zero temperature and becomes lighter as the temperature increases. The behavior is understood from the decreasing of the sigma condensate, which is consistent with the Brown-Rho scaling. The other pole changes from a virtual state to a bound state of pion-pion as the temperature increases which causes the enhancement at the pion-pion threshold. The behavior is understood as the emergence of the pion-pion bound state due to the enhancement of the pion-pion attraction by the induced emission in medium. The latter pole, not the former, eventually degenerates with pion above the critical temperature of the chiral transition. This means that the observable "sigma" changes from the former to the latter pole, which can be interpreted as the level crossing of "sigma" and pion-pion at finite temperature.

Effect of pion thermal width on the sigma spectrum

We study the effect of thermal width of $π$ on the spectral function of $σ$ applying a resummation technique called optimized perturbation theory at finite temperature ($T$) to ${\cal O}(4)$ linear sigma model. In order to take into account finite thermal width of $π$, we replace the internal pion mass in the self-energy of $σ$ with that of complex pole found in a previous paper. The obtained spectral function for $T\aplg 100 {\rm MeV}$ turns out to possess two broad peaks. Although a sharp peak at $σ\toππ$ threshold was observed in the one-loop calculation without pion thermal width, the peak is proved to be smeared out. We also search for the poles of the $σ$ propagator and analyze the behavior of the spectral function with these poles.
