Implication of Spatial and Temporal Variations of the Fine-Structure Constant

Temporal and spatial variation of fine-structure constant $α\equiv e^2/\hbar c$ in cosmology has been reported in analysis of combination Keck and VLT data. This paper studies this variation based on consideration of basic spacetime symmetry in physics. Both laboratory $α_0$ and distant $α_z$ are deduced from relativistic spectrum equations of atoms (e.g.,hydrogen atom) defined in inertial reference system. When Einstein's $Λ\neq 0$, the metric of local inertial reference systems in SM of cosmology is Beltrami metric instead of Minkowski, and the basic spacetime symmetry has to be de Sitter (dS) group. The corresponding special relativity (SR) is dS-SR. A model based on dS-SR is suggested. Comparing the predictions on $α$-varying with the data, the parameters are determined. The best-fit dipole mode in $α$'s spatial varying is reproduced by this dS-SR model. $α$-varyings in whole sky is also studied. The results are generally in agreement with the estimations of observations. The main conclusion is that the phenomenon of $α$-varying cosmologically with dipole mode dominating is due to the de Sitter (or anti de Sitter) spacetime symmetry with a Minkowski point in an extended special relativity called de Sitter invariant special relativity (dS-SR) developed by Dirac-Inönü-Wigner-Gürsey-Lee-Lu-Zou-Guo.

Schwarzschild-de Sitter Metric and Inertial Beltrami Coordinates

Under consideration of coordinate conditions, we get the Schwarzschild-Beltrami-de Sitter (S-BdS) metric solution of the Einstein field equations with a cosmological constant $Λ$. A brief review to the de Sitter invariant special relativity (dS-SR), and de Sitter general relativity (dS-GR, or GR with a $Λ$) is presented. The Beltrami metric $B_{μν}$ provides inertial reference frame for the dS-spacetime. By examining the Schwarzschild-de Sitter (S-dS) metric $g_{μν}^{(M)}$ existed in literatures since 1918, we find that the existed S-dS metric $g_{μν}^{(M)}$ describes some mixing effects of gravity and inertial-force, instead of a pure gravity effect arisen from "solar mass" $M$ in dS-GR. In this paper, we solve the vacuum Einstein equation of dS-GR, with the requirement of gravity-free metric $g_{μν}^{(M)}|_{M\rightarrow 0}=B_{μν}$. In this way we find S-BdS solution of dS-GR, written in inertial Beltrami coordinates. This is a new form of S-dS metric. Its physical meaning and possible applications are discussed.

One Electron Atom in Special Relativity with de Sitter Space-Time Symmetry

The de Sitter invariant Special Relativity (dS-SR) is a SR with constant curvature, and a natural extension of usual Einstein SR (E-SR). In this paper, we solved the dS-SR Dirac equation of Hydrogen by means of the adiabatic approach and the quasi-stationary perturbation calculations of QM. Hydrogen atoms are located on the light cone of the Universe. FRW metric and $Λ$CDM cosmological model are used to discuss this issue. To the atom, effects of de Sitter space-time geometry described by Beltrami metric are taken into account. The dS-SR Dirac equation turns out to be a time dependent quantum Hamiltonian system. We revealed that: 1,The fundamental physics constants $m_e,\;\hbar,\;e$ variate adiabatically along with cosmologic time in dS-SR QM framework. But the fine-structure constant $α\equiv e^2/(\hbar c)$ keeps to be invariant; 2,$(2s^{1/2}-2p^{1/2})$-splitting due to dS-SR QM effects: By means of perturbation theory, that splitting $ΔE(z)$ were calculated analytically, which belongs to $\mathcal{O}(1/R^2)$-physics of dS-SR QM. Numerically, we found that when $|R|\simeq \{10^3 Gly,\;10^4 Gly,\;10^5 Gly\;\}$, and $z\simeq \{1,\;{\rm or}\;2\}$, the $ΔE(z)>> 1{\rm (Lamb\; shift)}$. This indicate that for these cases the hyperfine structure effects due to QED could be ignored, and the dS-SR fine structure effects are dominant. This effect could be used to determine the universal constant $R$ in dS-SR, and be thought as a new physics beyond E-SR.

Remark on "Pair Creation Constrains Superluminal Neutrino Propagation"

The concept of group velocity of a particle should be consistent with its Hamilton-Jacobi velocity. This point is missed in the work of Cohen, Glashow, "{\it Pair Creation Constrains Superluminal Neutrino Propagation}" (Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 107}, 181803 (2011)). It then leads to the conclusion of existence of Cherenkov-like radiation provided one sees superluminal neutrinos. We show that in the framework of Special Relativity with de Sitter space-time symmetry (dS-SR) the above Cohen-Glashow argument does not hold and the Cherenkov-like radiation is forbidden. Our result is consistent with the experimental results of the ICARUS Collaboration.

Superluminal Neutrinos from Special Relativity with de Sitter Space-time Symmetry

We explore the recent OPERA experiment of superluminal neutrinos in the framework of Special Relativity with de Sitter space-time symmetry (dS-SR). According to Einstein a photon is treated as a massless particle in the framework of Special Relativity. In Special Relativity (SR) we have the universal parameter $c$, the photon velocity $c_{photon}$ and the phase velocity of a light wave in vacuum $c_{wave}=λν$. Due to the null experiments of Michelson-Morley we have $c=c_{wave}$. The parameter $c_{photon}$ is determined by the Noether charges corresponding to the space-time symmetries of SR. In Einstein's Special Relativity (E-SR) we have $c=c_{photon}$. In dS-SR, i.e. the Special Relativity with SO(4,1) de Sitter space-time symmetry, we have $c_{photon}>c$. In this paper, the OPERA datum are examined in the framework of dS-SR. We show that OPREA anomaly is in agreement with the prediction of dS-SR with $R\simeq 1.95\times 10^{12}l.y.$ Based on the $p$-$E$ relation of dS-SR, we also prove that the Cohen and Glashow's argument of possible superluminal neutrino's Cherenkov-like radiation is forbidden. We conclude that OPERA and ICARUS results are consistent and they are explained in the dS-SR framework.

Evidence for Special Relativity with de Sitter Space-Time Symmetry

I show the formulation of de Sitter Special Relativity (dS-SR) based on Dirac-Lu-Zou-Guo's discussions. dS-SR quantum mechanics is formulated, and the dS-SR Dirac equation for hydrogen is suggested. The equation in the earth-QSO framework reference is solved by means of the adiabatic approach. It's found that the fine-structure "constant" $α$ in dS-SR varies with time. By means of the $t-z$ relation of the $Λ$CDM model, $α$'s time-dependency becomes redshift $z$-dependent. The dS-SR's predictions of $Δα/α$ agree with data of spectra of 143 quasar absorption systems, the dS-space-time symmetry is SO(3,2) (i.e., anti-dS group) $\;$ and the universal parameter $R$ (de Sitter ratio) in dS-SR is estimated to be $R\simeq 2.73\times 10^{12}ly$. The effects of dS-SR become visible at the cosmic space-time scale (i.e., the distance $\geq 10^9 ly$). At that scale dS-SR is more reliable than Einstein SR. The $α$-variation with time is an evidence of SR with de Sitter symmetry.

On determination of the geometric cosmological constant from the OPERA experiment of superluminal neutrinos

The recent OPERA experiment of superluminal neutrinos has deep consequences in cosmology. In cosmology a fundamental constant is the cosmological constant. From observations one can estimate the effective cosmological constant $Λ_{eff}$ which is the sum of the quantum zero point energy $Λ_{dark energy}$ and the geometric cosmological constant $Λ$. The OPERA experiment can be applied to determine the geometric cosmological constant $Λ$. It is the first time to distinguish the contributions of $Λ$ and $Λ_{dark energy}$ from each other by experiment. The determination is based on an explanation of the OPERA experiment in the framework of Special Relativity with de Sitter space-time symmetry.

$X(1835)$ and the New Resonances $X(2120)$ and $X(2370)$ Observed by the BES Collaboration

We calculate the decay widths of both the second and the third radial excitations of $η$ and $η'$ within the framework of $^3P_0$ model. After comparing the theoretical decay widths and decay patterns with the available experimental data of $η(1760)$, $X(1835)$, $X(2120)$ and $X(2370)$, we find that the interpretation of $η(1760)$ and $X(1835)$ as the second radial excitation of $η$ and $η'$ crucially depends on the measured mass and width of $η(1760)$, which is still controversial experimentally. We suggest that there may be sizable $p\bar{p}$ content in $X(1835)$. $X(2120)$ and $X(2370)$ can not be understood as the third radial excitations of $η$ and $η'$, $X(2370)$ probably is a mixture of $η'(4{^1}{S}{_0})$ and glueball.

Understanding light scalar meson by color-magnetic wavefunction in QCD sum rule

In this paper, we study the $0^{+}$ nonet mesons as tetraquark states with interpolating currents induced from the color-magnetic wavefunction. This wavefunction is the eigenfunction of effective color-magnetic Hamiltonian with the lowest eigenvalue, meaning that the state depicted by this wavefunction is the most stable one and is most probable to be observed in experiments. Our approach can be recognized as determining interpolating currents dynamically. We perform an OPE calculation up to dimension eight condensates and find that the best QCD sum rule is achived when the current induced from the color-magnetic wavefunction is a proper mixture of the tensor and pseudoscalar diquark-antidiquark bound states. Compared with previous results, to sigma(600) and kappa(800), our results appear better, due to larger pole contribution. The direct instanton contribution are also considered, which yields a consistent result with previous OPE results. Finally, we also discuss the eta' problem as a possible six-quark state.

Backward Compton Scattering and QED with Noncommutative Plane in the Strong Uniform Magnetic Field

In the strong uniform magnetic field, the noncommutative plane (NCP) caused by the lowest Landau level (LLL) effect, and QED with NCP (QED-NCP) are studied. Being similar to the condensed matter theory of quantum Hall effect, an effective filling factor $f(B)$ is introduced to character the possibility that the electrons stay on the LLL. The analytic and numerical results of the differential cross section for the process of backward Compton scattering in the accelerator with unpolarized or polarized initial photons are calculated. The existing data of BL38B2 in Spring-8 have been analyzed roughly and compared with the numerical predictions primitively. We propose a precise measurement of the differential cross sections of backward Compton scattering in a strong perpendicular magnetic field, which may lead to reveal the effects of QED-NCP.

A note on the mass splitting of K*(892)

Belle Collaboration reported a new observed value of K*-(892) mass by studying tau --> K_S pi nu_tau decay, which is significantly different from the current world average value given by Particle Data Group 2006. Motivated by this new data, we revisit the issue on the K*0(892)-K*+(892) mass splitting. Our theoretical estimation favors the new measurement by Belle Collaboration. Therefore further experimental efforts are urgently needed to improve our understanding of these issues.

Variation of the Fine-Structure Constant from the de Sitter Invariant Special Relativity

There are obvious discrepancies among various experimental constraints on the variation of the fine-structure constant, $α$. We attempt to discuss the issue in the framework of de Sitter invariant Special Relativity (${\cal SR}_{c,R}$) and to present a possible solution to the disagreement. In addition, on the basis of the observational data and the discussions presented in this Letter, we derive a rough theoretical estimate of the radius of the Universe.

Backward Compton Scattering in Strong Uniform Magnetic Field

In strong uniform magnetic field, the vacuum Non-Commutative Plane (NCP) caused by the lowest Landau level(LLL) effect and the QED with NCP (QED-NCP) are studied. Being similar to the theory of Quantum Hall effect, an effective filling factor $f(B)$ is introduced to character the possibility that the electrons stays on LLL. The backward Compton scattering amplitudes of QED-NCP are derived, and the differential cross sections for the process with polarized initial electrons and photons are calculated. The existing Spring-8's data has been analyzed primitively and some hints for QED-NCP effects are shown. We propose to precisely measure the differential cross sections of the backward Compton scattering in perpendicular magnetic field experimentally, which may lead to reveal the effects of QED-NCP. Hamiltonian Formalism of the de-Sitter Invariant Special Relativity

Lagrangian of the Einstein's special relativity with universal parameter $c$ ($\mathcal{SR}_c$) is invariant under Poincaré transformation which preserves Lorentz metric $η_{μν}$. The $\mathcal{SR}_c$ has been extended to be one which is invariant under de Sitter transformation that preserves so called Beltrami metric $B_{μν}$. There are two universal parameters $c$ and $R$ in this Special Relativity (denote it as $\mathcal{SR}_{cR}$). The Lagrangian-Hamiltonian formulism of $\mathcal{SR}_{cR}$ is formulated in this paper. The canonic energy, canonic momenta, and 10 Noether charges corresponding to the space-time's de Sitter symmetry are derived. The canonical quantization of the mechanics for $\mathcal{SR}_{cR}$-free particle is performed. The physics related to it is discussed.

Baryonium with a phenomenological skyrmion-type potential

In this paper, we investigate the nucleon-antinucleon static energies in the Skyrme model with the product {\it Anzatz}. The calculation shows that in the ungroomed $S\bar S$ (skyrmion and antiskyrmion) channel, which leads to rapid annihilation, there exists a quasi-stable bound state which may give a natural explanation for the near-threshold enhancement in the proton-antiproton $(p\bar{p})$ mass spectrum reported by the BES Collaboration and the Belle Collaboration. Similar to the phenomenological well potential of the deuteron, we construct a phenomenological skyrmion-type potential to study this narrow $p\bar{p}$-resonance in $ J/ψ\to γp\bar{p}$. By this potential model, a $p\bar{p}$ baryonium with small binding energies is suggested and the decay width of this state is calculated by WKB approximation. In this picture the decay is attributed to quantum tunnelling and $p\bar{p}$ annihilation. Prediction on the decay mode from the baryonium annihilation at rest is also pointed out.

Resummation Studies on Vector Meson Decays and Chiral Symmetry Spontaneously Breaking in Chiral Constituent Quark Model

We study on-shell decays of light vector meson resonances $ρ$, $K^*$ and $ϕ$ in the framework of chiral constituent quark model using resummation calculations. Such studies are necessary for showing that chiral dynamics works well at this energy scale. The effective action is derived by proper vertex method, where resummation of all orders of momentum expansion is accomplished. The loop effects of pseudoscalar meson are also taken into account, which play an important role at this energy scale. The numerical results agree well with the experimental data. A new method to explore the Chiral Symmetry Spontaneously Breaking (CSSB) is proposed. It is found that the unitarity of the effective meson theory resulted from resummation derivations demands an upper-limit to the momentum of vector meson. This upper-limit, being critical point, is just the energy scale of CSSB, and is found to be flavor-dependent.

Statistical Entropy of a Stationary Dilaton Black Hole from Cardy Formula

With Carlip's boundary conditions, a standard Virasoro subalgebra with corresponding central charge for stationary dilaton black hole obtained in the low-energy effective field theory describing string is constructed at a Killing horizon. The statistical entropy of stationary dilaton black hole yielded by standard Cardy formula agree with its Bekenstein-Hawking entropy only if we take period $ T$ of function $v$ as the periodicity of the Euclidean black hole. On the other hand, if we consider first-order quantum correction then the entropy contains a logarithmic term with a factor $-{1/2}$, which is different from Kaul and Majumdar's one, $-{3/2}$. We also show that the discrepancy is not just for the dilaton black hole, but for any one whose corresponding central change takes the form $\frac{c}{12}= \frac{A_H}{8πG}\frac{2π}{κT}$.

Comment on the hadronic decay of excited heavy quarkonia

We make comments on ref.[Z.Phys. C73, 541 (1997)], and provide partial wave analysis to the decays of excited heavy S-wave $1^-$ quarkonia into the basic $1^-$ quarkonia state plus $ππ$. It is revealed that there exist contributions of D-wave transition in $ψ'\longrightarrow J/ψππ$, $Υ(2S)\longrightarrow Υ(1S) ππ$ and $Υ(3S)\longrightarrow Υ(1S) ππ$ by using the data-fitting results in ref.[Z.Phys C73, 541 (1997)]. A possible experimental method to measure the D-wave directly is discussed.

Higher Order Perturbation Corrections of Rotating Excited States in the Standard SU(3) Skyrme Model to Baryon Mass Spectrum

The higher order corrections of SU(3) rotating excited states to the Gell-Mann-Okubo Relations (or GOR) are presented in the standard SU(3) Skyrme model. The Improved GOR (or IGOR) are obtained. The results show the IGOR for decuplet up to the third order and for octet up to the second order are much compatible with the experimental data. But things becomes quite inadequate for the octet to the third order. In order to overcome the inadequacy, a heuristic discussion is presented. The properties of SU(3) rotating excited states 27-let(with spin 1/2 or 3/2),10$^*$-let (with spin 1/2) and 35-let (with spin 3/2) are also discussed.
