Global Stability of a Diffusive SEIR Epidemic Model with Distributed Delay

We study the global dynamics of a reaction-diffusion SEIR infection model with distributed delay and nonlinear incidence rate. The well-posedness of the proposed model is proved. By means of Lyapunov functionals, we show that the disease free equilibrium state is globally asymptotically stable when the basic reproduction number is less or equal than one, and that the disease endemic equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable when the basic reproduction number is greater than one. Numerical simulations are provided to illustrate the obtained theoretical results.

Necessary optimality conditions of a reaction-diffusion SIR model with ABC fractional derivatives

The main aim of the present work is to study and analyze a reaction-diffusion fractional version of the SIR epidemic mathematical model by means of the non-local and non-singular ABC fractional derivative operator with complete memory effects. Existence and uniqueness of solution for the proposed fractional model is proved. Existence of an optimal control is also established. Then, necessary optimality conditions are derived. As a consequence, a characterization of the optimal control is given. Lastly, numerical results are given with the aim to show the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy, which provides significant results using the AB fractional derivative operator in the Caputo sense, comparing it with the classical integer one. The results show the importance of choosing very well the fractional characterization of the order of the operators.

Noether's Theorem for Control Problems on Time Scales

We prove a generalization of Noether's theorem for optimal control problems defined on time scales. Particularly, our results can be used for discrete-time, quantum, and continuous-time optimal control problems. The generalization involves a one-parameter family of maps which depend also on the control and a Lagrangian which is invariant up to an addition of an exact delta differential. We apply our results to some concrete optimal control problems on an arbitrary time scale.

Optimal Control for a Steady State Dead Oil Isotherm Problem

We study the optimal control of a steady-state dead oil isotherm problem. The problem is described by a system of nonlinear partial differential equations resulting from the traditional modelling of oil engineering within the framework of mechanics of a continuous medium. Existence and regularity results of the optimal control are proved, as well as necessary optimality conditions.

Optimal Control of Nonlocal Thermistor Equations

We are concerned with the optimal control problem of the well known nonlocal thermistor problem, i.e., in studying the heat transfer in the resistor device whose electrical conductivity is strongly dependent on the temperature. Existence of an optimal control is proved. The optimality system consisting of the state system coupled with adjoint equations is derived, together with a characterization of the optimal control. Uniqueness of solution to the optimality system, and therefore the uniqueness of the optimal control, is established. The last part is devoted to numerical simulations.

Composition Functionals in Fractional Calculus of Variations

We prove Euler-Lagrange and natural boundary necessary optimality conditions for fractional problems of the calculus of variations which are given by a composition of functionals. Our approach uses the recent notions of Riemann-Liouville fractional derivatives and integrals in the sense of Jumarie. As an application, we get optimality conditions for the product and the quotient of fractional variational functionals.
