Cosmological constrains on new generalized Chaplygin gas model

We use different combinations of data samples to investigate the new generalized Chaplygin gas (NGCG) model in the context of dark energy (DE) cosmology. Using the available cosmological data, we put constraints on the the free parameters of NGCG model based on the statistical Markov chain Monte Carlo method. We then find the best fit values of cosmological parameters and those confidence regions in NGCG cosmology. Our result for the matter density parameter calculated in NGCG model is in excellent agreement with that of the standard CDM cosmology. We also find that the equation of state of DE of the model slightly favors the phantom regime. We show that the big tension between the low- and high-redshift observations appearing in CDM universe to predict the Hubble constant H 0 can be alleviated in NGCG model. However, from the statistical point of view, our results show that the standard CDM model fits the observations better than the NGCG cosmology.

Comparison between different methods of model selection in cosmology

There are several methods for model selection in cosmology which have at least two major goals, that of finding the correct model or predicting well. In this work we discuss through a study of well-known model selection methods like Akaike information criterion (AIC), Bayesian information criterion (BIC), deviance information criterion (DIC) and Bayesian evidence, how these different goals are pursued in each paradigm. We also apply another method for model selection which less seen in cosmological literature, the Cross-validation method. Using these methods we will compare two different scenarios in cosmology, $Λ$CDM model and dynamical dark energy. We show that each of the methods tends to different results in model selection. While BIC and Bayesian evidence overrule the dynamical dark energy scenarios with 2 or 3 extra degree of freedom, the DIC and cross-validation method prefer these dynamical models to $Λ$CDM model. Assuming the numerical results of different analysis and combining cosmological and statistical aspects of the subject, we propose cross-validation as an interesting method for model selection in cosmology that can lead to different results in comparison with usual methods of model selection.

Cosmography approach to dark energy cosmologies: new constrains using the Hubble diagrams of supernovae, quasars and gamma-ray bursts

In the context of cosmography approach and using the data of Hubble diagram for supernovae, quasars and gamma-ray bursts, we study some DE parametrizations and also the concordance $Λ$CDM universe. Using the different combinations of data sample including ({\it i}) supernovae (Pantheon), ({\it ii}) Pantheon + quasars and ({\it iii}) Pantheon + quasars + gamma-ray bursts and applying the minimization of $χ^2$ function of distance modulus of data samples in the context of Markov Chain Monte Carlo method, we first obtain the constrained values of the cosmographic parameters in model independent cosmography scenario. We then investigate our analysis, for different concordance $Λ$CDM cosmology, $w$CDM, CPL and Pade parametrizations. Comparing the numerical values of the cosmographic parameters obtained for DE scenarios with those of the model independent method, we show that the concordance $Λ$CDM model has a serious tension when we involve the quasars and gamma-ray bursts data in our analysis. While the high redshift quasars and gamma-ray bursts can falsify the concordance model, our results of cosmography approach indicate that the other DE parametrizations are still consistent with these observations.

Constraints on shear and rotation with massive galaxy clusters

A precise determination of the mass function is an important tool to verify cosmological predictions of the $Λ$CDM model and to infer more precisely the better model describing the evolution of the Universe. Galaxy clusters have been currently used to infer cosmological parameters, in particular the matter density parameter $Ω_{\rm m}$, the matter power spectrum normalization $σ_8$ and the equation of state parameter $w_{\rm de}$ of the dark energy fluid. In this work, using data on massive galaxy clusters ($M>8\times 10^{14}~h^{-1}~M_{\odot}$) in the redshift range $0.05\lesssim z\lesssim 0.83$ we put constraints on the parameter $α$ introduced within the formalism of the extended spherical collapse model to quantify deviations from sphericity due to shear and rotation. Since at the moment there is no physical model describing its functional shape, we assume it to be a logarithmic function of the cluster mass. By holding $σ_8$ fixed and restricting our analysis to a $Λ$CDM model, we find, at $1-σ$ confidence level, $Ω_{\rm m}=0.284\pm0.0064$, $h=0.678\pm0.017$ and $β=0.0019^{+0.0008}_{-0.0015}$, where $β$ represents the slope of the parameter $α$. This results translates into a $9\%$ decrement of the number of massive clusters with respect to a standard $Λ$CDM mass function, but better data are required to better constrain this quantity, since at the $2-σ$ and $3-σ$ confidence level we are only able to infer upper limits.

Effects of ghost dark energy perturbations on the evolution of spherical overdensities

While in the standard cosmological model the accelerated expansion of the Universe is explained by invoking the presence of the cosmological constant term, it is still unclear the true origin of this stunning observational fact. It is therefore interesting to explore alternatives to the simplest scenario, in particular by assuming a more general framework where the fluid responsible of the accelerated expansion is characterised by a time-dependant equation of state. Usually these models, dubbed dark energy models, are purely phenomenological, but in this work we concentrate on a theoretically justified model, the ghost dark energy model. Within the framework of the spherical collapse model, we evaluate effects of dark energy perturbations both at the linear and non-linear level and transfer these results into an observable quantity, the mass function, by speculatively taking into account contributions of dark energy to the mass of the halos. We showed that the growth rate is higher in ghost models and that perturbations enhance the number of structures with respect to the $Λ$CDM model, with stronger effects when the total mass takes into account dark energy clumps.

Evolution of spherical overdensities in holographic dark energy models

In this work we investigate the spherical collapse model in flat FRW dark energy universes. We consider the Holographic Dark Energy (HDE) model as a dynamical dark energy scenario with a slowly time-varying equation-of-state (EoS) parameter $w_{\rm de}$ in order to evaluate the effects of the dark energy component on structure formation in the universe. We first calculate the evolution of density perturbations in the linear regime for both phantom and quintessence behavior of the HDE model and compare the results with standard Einstein-de Sitter (EdS) and $Λ$CDM models. We then calculate the evolution of two characterizing parameters in the spherical collapse model, i.e., the linear density threshold $δ_{\rm c}$ and the virial overdensity parameter $Δ_{\rm vir}$. We show that in HDE cosmologies the growth factor $g(a)$ and the linear overdensity parameter $δ_{\rm c}$ fall behind the values for a $Λ$CDM universe while the virial overdensity $Δ_{\rm vir}$ is larger in HDE models than in the $Λ$CDM model. We also show that the ratio between the radius of the spherical perturbations at the virialization and turn-around time is smaller in HDE cosmologies than that predicted in a $Λ$CDM universe. Hence the growth of structures starts earlier in HDE models than in $Λ$CDM cosmologies and more concentrated objects can form in this case. It has been shown that the non-vanishing surface pressure leads to smaller virial radius and larger virial overdensity $Δ_{\rm vir}$. We compare the predicted number of halos in HDE cosmologies and find out that in general this value is smaller than for $Λ$CDM models at higher redshifts and we compare different mass function prescriptions. Finally, we compare the results of the HDE models with observations.

Growth of matter perturbations in clustered holographic dark energy cosmologies

We investigate the growth of matter fluctuations in holographic dark energy cosmologies. First we use an overall statistical analysis involving the latest observational data in order to place constraints on the cosmological parameters. Then we test the range of validity of the holographic dark energy models at the perturbation level and its variants from the concordance $Λ$ cosmology. Specifically, we provide a new analytical approach in order to derive, for the first time, the growth index of matter perturbations. Considering a homogeneous holographic dark energy we find that the growth index is $γ\approx \frac{4}{7}$ which is somewhat larger ($\sim 4.8\%$) than that of the usual $Λ$ cosmology, $γ^{(Λ)}\approx \frac{6}{11}$. Finally, if we allow clustering in the holographic dark energy models then the asymptotic value of the growth index is given in terms of the effective sound speed $c_{\rm eff}^2$, namely $γ\approx \frac{3(1-c_{\rm eff}^2)}{7}$.

Can observational growth rate data favour the clustering dark energy models?

Under the commonly used assumption that clumped objects can be well described by a spherical top-hat matter density profile, we investigate the evolution of the cosmic growth index in clustering dark energy (CDE) scenarios on sub-horizon scales. We show that the evolution of the growth index $γ(z)$ strongly depends on the equation-of-state (EoS) parameter and on the clustering properties of the dark energy (DE) component. Performing a $χ^2$ analysis, we show that CDE models have a better fit to observational growth rate data points with respect to the concordance $Λ$CDM model. We finally determine $γ(z)$ using an exponential parametrization and demonstrate that the growth index in CDE models presents large variations with cosmic redshift. In particular it is smaller (larger) than the theoretical value for the $Λ$CDM model, $γ_Λ\simeq0.55$, in the recent past (at the present time).

Spherical collapse and the holographic dark energy model

In this work we investigate the spherical collapse model in flat FRW universe containing dark energy component. We consider the Holographic Dark Energy (HDE) model as a dynamical dark energy scenario with slowly time varying EoS parameter $w_Λ$ in order to calculate the effect of dark energy on the scenario of structure formation in the universe. We first calculate the evolution of density perturbation in linear regime for both phantom and quintessence behavior of HDE model and compare the results with standard CDM and $Λ$ CDM models. Then we calculate the evolution of two parameters characterizing the spherical collapse model i.e., linear density threshold $δ_c$ and virial over-density $Δ_{vir}$ for phantom and quintessence HDE models. It is shown that the growth factor and $δ_c$ fall behind in $Λ$CDM universe. We also show that $Δ_{vir}$ is largest in quintessence HDE model, intermediate in phantom HDE compare to $Λ$CDM model. Hence the growth of structures start earlier in quintessence and phantom HDE models than $Λ$CDM and more concentrated objects can be produced in these models.

Cosmography of interacting generalized QCD ghost dark energy

Exploring the accelerated expansion of the universe, we investigate the generalized ghost dark energy (GGDE) model from the statefinder diagnosis analysis in a flat FRW universe. First we calculate the cosmological evolution and statefinder trajectories for non-interacting case and then extend this work by considering the interaction between dark matter and dark energy components. We show that in the non-interacting case the phantom line can not be crossed and also he evolutionary trajectories of model in $s-r$ plane can not be discriminated. It has been shown that the present location of model in $s-r$ plane would be close to observational value for negative values of model parameter. In the presence of interaction between dark matter and dark energy, the phantom regime is achieved, the accelerated phase of expansion occurs sooner compare with non-interacting case. The GGDE model is also discussed from the viewpoint of perturbation theory by calculating the adiabatic sound speed of the model. Finally, unlike the non-interacting case, the evolutionary trajectories in $s-r$ plane can be discriminated in the interacting model. Like non-interacting model, in the interacting case the present location of GGDE model is closer to observational value for negative values of model parameter.

Observational constraints on G-corrected holographic dark energy using a Markov chain Monte Carlo method

We constrain holographic dark energy (HDE) with time varying gravitational coupling constant in the framework of the modified Friedmann equations using cosmological data from type Ia supernovae, baryon acoustic oscillations, cosmic microwave background radiation and X-ray gas mass fraction. Applying a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) simulation, we obtain the best fit values of the model and cosmological parameters within $1σ$ confidence level (CL) in a flat universe as: $Ω_{\rm b}h^2=0.0222^{+0.0018}_{-0.0013}$, $Ω_{\rm c}h^2 =0.1121^{+0.0110}_{-0.0079}$, $α_{\rm G}\equiv \dot{G}/(HG) =0.1647^{+0.3547}_{-0.2971}$ and the HDE constant $c=0.9322^{+0.4569}_{-0.5447}$. Using the best fit values, the equation of state of the dark component at the present time $w_{\rm d0}$ at $1σ$ CL can cross the phantom boundary $w=-1$.

Polytropic gas scalar field models of dark energy

In this work we investigate the polytropic gas dark energy model in the non flat universe. We first calculate the evolution of EoS parameter of the model as well as the cosmological evolution of Hubble parameter in the context of polytropic gas dark energy model. Then we reconstruct the dynamics and the potential of the tachyon and K-essence scalar field models according to the evolutionary behavior of polytropic gas model.
