Off-resonant preservation and generation of imaginarity in distributed scenarios

We study the nonlocal advantage of quantum imaginarity (NAQI) and distillable imaginarity of assistance (DIA), which treat imaginarity as a resource in distributed scenarios. For two qubits interacting with a lossy cavity, it is shown that both the NAQI and DIA can be well preserved for long times in the presence of large and symmetric detuning between the qubits and the cavity. Moreover, the off-resonant interaction generates a high degree of NAQI and DIA from the initial product states of two qubits having the same detunings and unequal couplings to the cavity. Based on the effective coupling of the qubits induced by the cavity mode, we explain the physical mechanism underlying the validity of this strategy. Our findings shed light on the role that off-resonant interactions have in the efficient control of imaginarity in distributed scenarios.

Enhancing the charging performance of an atomic quantum battery

We study a quantum battery (QB) model composed of two atoms, where the charger and battery elements are coupled to a multimode vacuum field that serves as a mediator for energy transfer. Different figures of merit such as ergotropy, charging time, and charging efficiency are analyzed, putting emphasis on the role of various control parameters on the charging performance. It is found that there is a range of angle between the transition dipole moments and interatomic axis in which the QB can be charged. The optimal charging performance is achieved if the atomic dipole moments are perpendicular or parallel to the interatomic axis. The charging performance also improves with the decrease of the interatomic distance. Besides, the charged ergotropy can be enhanced by increasing the initial ergotropy of the charger and it is beneficial to charge the QB starting from a passive state.

Limits on sequential sharing of nonlocal advantage of quantum coherence

Sequential sharing of nonlocal correlation is inherently related to its application. We address the question as to how many observers can share the nonlocal advantage of quantum coherence (NAQC) in a $(d\times d)$-dimensional state, where $d$ is a prime or a power of a prime. We first analyze the trade-off between disturbance and information gain of the general $d$-dimensional unsharp measurements. Then in a scenario where multiple Alices perform unsharp measurements on one party of the state sequentially and independently and a single Bob measures coherence of the conditional states on the other party, we show that at most one Alice can demonstrate NAQC with Bob. This limit holds even when considering the weak measurements with optimal pointer states. These results may shed light on the interplay between nonlocal correlations and quantum measurements on high-dimensional systems and the hierarchy of different quantum correlations.

Protecting quantum Fisher information in correlated quantum channels

Quantum Fisher information (QFI) has potential applications in quantum metrology tasks. We investigate QFI when the consecutive actions of a quantum channel on the sequence of qubits have partial classical correlations. Our results showed that while the decoherence effect is detrimental to QFI, effects of such classical correlations on QFI are channel-dependent. For the Bell-type probe states, the classical correlations on consecutive actions of the depolarizing and phase flip channels can be harnessed to improve QFI, while the classical correlations in the bit flip and bit-phase flip channels induce a slight decrease of QFI. For a more general parameterization form of the probe states, the advantage of using initial correlated system on improving QFI can also be remained in a wide regime of the correlated quantum channels.

Steered quantum coherence as a signature of quantum phase transitions in spin chains

We propose to use the steered quantum coherence (SQC) as a signature of quantum phase transitions (QPTs). By considering various spin chain models, including the transverse-field Ising model, \textit{XY} model, and \textit{XX} model with three-spin interaction, we showed that the SQC and its first-order derivative succeed in signaling different critical points of QPTs. In particular, the SQC method is effective for any spin pair chosen from the chain, and the strength of SQC, in contrast to entanglement and quantum discord, is insensitive to the distance (provided it is not very short) of the tested spins, which makes it convenient for practical use as there is no need for careful choice of two spins in the chain.

Quantum coherence of multiqubit states in correlated noisy channels

The long-time maintenance of quantum coherence is crucial for its practical applications. We explore decoherence process of a multiqubit system passing through a correlated channel (phase flip, bit flip, bit-phase flip, and depolarizing). The results show that the decay of coherence was evidently delayed when the consecutive actions of the channel on the sequence of qubits has some classical correlations. In particular, the relative entropy of coherence for a system with large number of qubits is more robust than that with small number of qubits. We also provide an explanation for the delayed decoherence by exploring the interplay between the change of the unlocalized quantum coherence and the total correlation gain of the multiqubit system.

Evolution equation for quantum coherence

The estimation of the decoherence process of an open quantum system is of both theoretical significance and experimental appealing. Practically, the decoherence can be easily estimated if the coherence evolution satisfies some simple relations. Based on the coherence quantification method, we prove a simple factorization relation for the $l_1$ norm measure of coherence, and analyze under which condition this relation holds. We also obtain a more general relation which applies to arbitrary $N$-qubit state, and determine a condition for the transformation matrix of the quantum channel which can support permanently freezing of the $l_1$ norm of coherence. These results simplify determination of a general decoherence dynamics to that the investigation of evolution about the representative probe state.

Measurement-induced nonlocality based on the trace norm

Nonlocality is one unique property of quantum mechanics differing from classical world. One of its quantifications can be properly described as the maximum global effect caused by locally invariant measurements, termed as measurement-induced nonlocality (MIN) (2011 \emph{Phys. Rev. Lett.} {\bf 106} 120401). Here, we propose to quantify the MIN by the trace norm. We show explicitly that this measure is monotonically decreasing under the action of completely positive trace-preserving map, which is the general local quantum operation, on the unmeasured party for the bipartite state. This property avoids the undesirable characteristic appearing in the known measure of MIN defined by the Hilbert-Schmidt norm that may be increased or decreased by trivial local reversible operations on the unmeasured party. We obtain analytical formulas of the trace-norm MIN for any $2\times n$ dimensional pure state, two-qubit state, and certain high-dimensional states. As other quantum correlation measures, the new defined MIN can be directly applied to various models for physical interpretations.

Preservation of the geometric quantum discord in noisy environments

Geometric description of quantum correlations are favored for their distinct physical significance. Geometric discord based on the trace distance and the Bures distance are shown to be well-defined quantum correlation measures. Here, we examine their particular dynamical behaviors under independent as well as common structured reservoirs, and reveal their robustness against decoherence. We showed that the two well-defined geometric discord may be preserved well, or even be improved and generated by the noisy process of the common reservoir. Moreover, we also provided a strategy for long-time preservation of these two geometric discord in independent reservoirs.

Role of weak measurements on states ordering and monogamy of quantum correlation

The information-theoretic definition of quantum correlation, e.g., quantum discord, is measurement dependent. By considering the more general quantum measurements, weak measurements, which include the projective measurement as a limiting case, we show that while weak measurements can enable one to capture more quantumness of correlation in a state, it can also induce other counterintuitive quantum effects. Specifically, we show that the general measurements with different strengths can impose different orderings for quantum correlations of some states. It can also modify the monogamous character for certain classes of states as well which may diminish the usefulness of quantum correlation as a resource in some protocols. In this sense, we say that the weak measurements play a dual role in defining quantum correlation.

Sudden change of geometric quantum discord in finite temperature reservoirs

We investigate sudden change (SC) behaviors of the distance-based measures of geometric quantum discords (GQDs) for two non-interacting qubits subject to the two-sided and the one-sided thermal reservoirs. We found that the GQDs defined by different distances exhibit different SCs, and thus the SCs are the combined result of the chosen discord measure and the property of a state. We also found that the thermal reservoir may generate states having different orderings related to different GQDs. These inherent differences of the GQDs reveal that they are incompatible in characterizing quantum correlations both quantitatively and qualitatively.

Competitions between quantum correlations in the quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relation

With the aid of a quantum memory, the uncertainty about the measurement outcomes of two incompatible observables of a quantum system can be reduced. We investigate this measurement uncertainty bound by considering an additional quantum system connected with both the quantum memory and the measured quantum system. We find that the reduction of the uncertainty bound induced by a quantum memory, on the other hand, implies its increasing for a third participant. We also show that the properties of the uncertainty bound can be viewed from perspectives of both quantum and classical correlations, in particular, the behavior of the uncertainty bound is a result of competitions of various correlations between different parties.

Upper bound and shareability of quantum discord based on entropic uncertainty relations

By using the quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relation (EUR), we derive a computable tight upper bound for quantum discord, which applies to an arbitrary bipartite state. Detailed examples show that this upper bound is tighter than other known bounds in a wide regime. Furthermore, we show that for any tripartite pure state, the quantum-memory-assisted EUR imposes a constraint on the shareability of quantum correlations among the constituent parties. This conclusion amends the well accepted result that quantum discord is not monogamous.

Disentanglement, Bell-nonlocality violation and teleportation capacity of the decaying tripartite states

Dynamics of disentanglement as measured by the tripartite negativity and Bell nonlocality as measured by the extent of violation of the multipartite Bell-type inequalities are investigated in this work. It is shown definitively that for the initial three-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) or {\it W} class state preparation the Bell nonlocality suffers sudden death under the influence of thermal reservoirs. Moreover, all the Bell-nonlocal states are useful for nonclassical teleportation, while there are entangled states that do not violate any Bell-type inequalities, but still yield nonclassical teleportation fidelity.

Dynamics of entropic measurement-induced nonlocality in structured reservoirs

We propose the entropic measurement-induced nonlocality (MIN) as the maximal increment of von Neumann entropy induced by the locally non-disturbing measurement, and study behaviors of it both in the independent and common structured reservoirs. We present schemes for preserving the MIN, and show that for certain initial states the MIN, including the quantum correlations, can even be enhanced by the common reservoir. Additionally, we also show that the different measures of MIN may give different qualitative characterizations of nonlocal properties, i.e., it is rather measure dependent than state dependent.

Quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty principle, teleportation and entanglement witness in structured reservoirs

We relate the principle of quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty to quantum teleportation and show geometrically that any two-qubit state which lowers the upper bound of this uncertainty relation is useful for teleportation. We also explore the efficiency of this entropic uncertainty principle on witnessing entanglement in a general class of bosonic structured reservoirs. The entanglement regions witnessed by different estimates are determined, which may have no relation with the explicit form of the spectral density of the reservoir for certain special chosen sets of the initial states.

Relations between entanglement, Bell-inequality violation and teleportation fidelity for the two-qubit X states

Based on the assumption that the receiver Bob can apply any unitary transformation, Horodecki {\it et al.} [Phys. Lett. A {\bf 222}, 21 (1996)] proved that any mixed two spin-1/2 state which violates the Bell-CHSH inequality is useful for teleportation. Here, we further show that any X state which violates the Bell-CHSH inequality can also be used for nonclassical teleportation even if Bob can only perform the identity or the Pauli rotation operations. Moreover, we showed that the maximal difference between the two average fidelities achievable via Bob's arbitrary transformations and via the sole identity or the Pauli rotation is 1/9.

Disentanglement dynamics of interacting two qubits and two qutrits in an XY spin-chain environment with the Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interaction

We investigate disentanglement dynamics of two coupled qubits and qutrits which interact uniformly to a general XY spin-chain environment with the Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya (DM) interaction. We obtained exact expression of the time evolution operator and analyzed the dynamical process of the decoherence factors. Through explicitly calculating the concurrence and the negativity, we examined disentanglement behaviors of two coupled central spins evolve from different initial pure states, which are found to be nontrivially different from those of the uncorrelated ones, in particular, the enhanced decay of the entanglement induced by quantum criticality of the surrounding environment may be broken by introducing self-Hamiltonian of the central spin system. Moreover, the DM interaction may have different influences on decay of the entanglement depending on the strength of the system-environment coupling, the anisotropy of the environmental spin chain and the intensity of the transverse magnetic field, as well as the explicit form of the initial states of the central spin system.

Effects of impurity on fidelity of quantum state transfer via spin channels

By adopting the concept of fidelity, we investigated efficiency of quantum state transfer with the XX chain as the quantum channel. Different from the previous works, we concentrated on effects of spin and magnetic impurity on fidelity of quantum state transfer. Our results revealed that the spin impurity cannot prevent one from implementing perfect transfer of an arbitrary one-qubit pure state across the spin channel, however, the presence of magnetic impurity or both spin and magnetic impurities may destroy the otherwise perfect spin channels.

Environment-induced decay of teleportation fidelity of the one-qubit state

The one-qubit teleportation protocol is reexamined when it is executed in the presence of various decohering environments. The results revealed that this quantum protocol is more robust under the influence of dephaisng environment than those under the influence of dissipative or noisy environment. The environment may deprive the quantum advantage of teleportation over purely classical communication in a finite or infinite lifetime, which is dependent on the type of environment. Also we found that except entanglement, the purity of the entangled state resource is also crucial in determine the quality of the teleported state.

Robustness of Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger and W states for teleportation in external environments

By solving analytically a master equation in the Lindblad form, we study quantum teleportation of the one-qubit state under the influence of different surrounding environments, and compared the robustness between Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) and W states in terms of their teleportation capacity. The results revealed that when subject to zero temperature environment, the GHZ state is always more robust than the W state, while the reverse situation occurs when the channel is subject to infinite temperature or dephasing environment.

Robustness of quantum correlations against decoherence

We study dynamics of nonclassical correlations by exactly solving a model consisting of two atomic qubits with spontaneous emission. We find that the nonclassical correlations defined by different measures give different qualitative characterizations of those correlations. The relative behaviors of those correlation measures are presented explicitly for various quantum states in the two-qubit atomic system. In particular, we find that the robustness of quantum correlations can be greatly enhanced by performing appropriate local unitary operations on the initial state of the system.

State transfer in dissipative and dephasing environments

By diagonalization of a generalized superoperator for solving the master equation, we investigated effects of dissipative and dephasing environments on quantum state transfer, as well as entanglement distribution and creation in spin networks. Our results revealed that under the condition of the same decoherence rate $γ$, the detrimental effects of the dissipative environment are more severe than that of the dephasing environment. Beside this, the critical time $t_c$ at which the transfer fidelity and the concurrence attain their maxima arrives at the asymptotic value $t_0=π/2λ$ quickly as the spin chain length $N$ increases. The transfer fidelity of an excitation at time $t_0$ is independent of $N$ when the system subjects to dissipative environment, while it decreases as $N$ increases when the system subjects to dephasing environment. The average fidelity displays three different patterns corresponding to $N=4r+1$, $N=4r-1$ and $N=2r$. For each pattern, the average fidelity at time $t_0$ is independent of $r$ when the system subjects to dissipative environment, and decreases as $r$ increases when the system subjects to dephasing environment. The maximum concurrence also decreases as $N$ increases, and when $N\rightarrow\infty$, it arrives at an asymptotic value determined by the decoherence rate $γ$ and the structure of the spin network.

State transfer in intrinsic decoherence spin channels

By analytically solving the master equation, we investigate quantum state transfer, creation and distribution of entanglement in the model of Milburn's intrinsic decoherence. Our results reveal that the ideal spin channels will be destroyed by the intrinsic decoherence environment, and the detrimental effects become severe as the decoherence rate $γ$ and the spin chain length $N$ increase. For infinite evolution time, both the state transfer fidelity and the concurrence of the created and distributed entanglement approach steady state values, which are independent of the decoherence rate $γ$ and decrease as the spin chain length $N$ increases. Finally, we present two modified spin chains which may serve as near perfect spin channels for long distance state transfer even in the presence of intrinsic decoherence environments $\mathcal {F}{[ρ(t)]}$.

Teleportation of the one-qubit state in decoherence environments

We study standard quantum teleportation of one-qubit state for the situation in which the channel is subject to decoherence, and where the evolution of the channel state is ruled by a master equation in the Lindblad form. A detailed calculation reveals that the quality of teleportation is determined by both the entanglement and the purity of the channel state, and only the optimal matching of them ensures the highest fidelity of standard quantum teleportation. Also our results demonstrated that the decoherence induces distortion of the Bloch sphere for the output state with different rates in different directions, which implies that different input states will be teleported with different fidelities.

Teleportation of the one-qubit state with environment-disturbed recovery operations

We study standard protocol $\mathcal{P}_0$ for teleporting the one-qubit state with both the transmission process of the two qubits constitute the quantum channel and the recovery operations performed by Bob disturbed by the decohering environment. The results revealed that Bob's imperfect operations do not eliminate the possibility of nonclassical teleportation fidelity provided he shares an ideal channel state with Alice, while the transmission process is constrained by a critical time $t_{0,c}$ longer than which will result in failure of $\mathcal{P}_0$ if the two qubits are corrupted by the decohering environment. Moreover, we found that under the condition of the same decoherence rate $γ$, the teleportation protocol is significantly more fragile when it is executed under the influence of the noisy environment than those under the influence of the dissipative and dephasing environments.

Teleporting the one-qubit state via two-level atoms with spontaneous emission

We study quantum teleportation via two two-level atoms coupled collectively to a multimode vacuum field and prepared initially in different atomic states. We concentrated on influence of the spontaneous emission, collective damping and dipole-dipole interaction of the atoms on fidelity dynamics of quantum teleportation and obtained the region of spatial distance between the two atoms over which the state can be teleported nonclassically. Moreover, we showed through concrete examples that entanglement of the channel state is the prerequisite but not the only essential quantity for predicting the teleportation fidelity.
