On the regularity of Ricci flows coming out of metric spaces

We consider smooth, not necessarily complete, Ricci flows, $(M,g(t))_{t\in (0,T)}$ with ${\mathrm{Ric}}(g(t)) \geq -1$ and $| {\mathrm{Rm}} (g(t))| \leq c/t$ for all $t\in (0 ,T)$ coming out of metric spaces $(M,d_0)$ in the sense that $(M,d(g(t)), x_0) \to (M,d_0, x_0)$ as $t\searrow 0$ in the pointed Gromov-Hausdorff sense. In the case that $B_{g(t)}(x_0,1) \Subset M$ for all $t\in (0,T)$ and $d_0$ is generated by a smooth Riemannian metric in distance coordinates, we show using Ricci-harmonic map heat flow, that there is a corresponding smooth solution $\tilde g(t)_{t\in (0,T)}$ to the $δ$-Ricci-DeTurck flow on an Euclidean ball ${\mathbb B}_{r}(p_0) \subset {\mathbb R}^n$, which can be extended to a smooth solution defined for $t \in [0,T)$. We further show, that this implies that the original solution $g$ can be extended to a smooth solution on $B_{d_0}(x_0,r/2)$ for $t\in [0,T)$, in view of the method of Hamilton.

Optimal curvature estimates for homogeneous Ricci flows

We prove uniform curvature estimates for homogeneous Ricci flows: For a solution defined on $[0,t]$ the norm of the curvature tensor at time $t$ is bounded by the maximum of $C(n)/t$ and $C(n) ( scal(g(t)) - scal(g(0)) )$. This is used to show that solutions with finite extinction time are Type I, immortal solutions are Type III and ancient solutions are Type I, where all the constants involved depend only on the dimension $n$. A further consequence is that a non-collapsed homogeneous ancient solution on a compact homogeneous space emerges from a unique Einstein metric on the same space. The above curvature estimates are proved using a gap theorem for Ricci-flatness on homogeneous spaces. The proof of this gap theorem is by contradiction and uses a local $W^{2,p}$ convergence result, which holds without symmetry assumptions.

Extending four dimensional Ricci flows with bounded scalar curvature

We consider smooth solutions (M,g(t)), 0 <= t <T, to Ricci flow on compact, connected, four dimensional manifolds without boundary. We assume that the scalar curvature is bounded uniformly, and that T is finite. In this case, we show that the metric space (M,d(t)) associated to (M,g(t)) converges uniformly in the C^0 sense to (X,d), as t approaches T, where (X,d) is a C^0 Riemannian orbifold with at most finitely many orbifold points. Estimates on the rate of convergence near and away from the orbifold points are given. We also show that it is possible to continue the flow past (X,d) using the orbifold Ricci flow.

Some integral curvature estimates for the Ricci flow in four dimensions

We consider solutions (M,g(t)), 0 <= t <T, to Ricci flow on compact, four dimensional manifolds without boundary. We prove integral curvature estimates which are valid for any such solution. In the case that the scalar curvature is bounded and T is finite, we show that these estimates imply that the (spatial) integral of the square of the norm of the Riemannian curvature is bounded by a constant independent of time t for all 0 <= t<T and that the space time integral over M x [0,T) of the fourth power of the norm of the Ricci curvature is bounded.

Expanding solitons with non-negative curvature operator coming out of cones

We consider Ricci flow of complete Riemannian manifolds which have bounded non-negative curvature operator, non-zero asymptotic volume ratio and no boundary. We prove scale invariant estimates for these solutions. Using these estimates, we show that there is a limit solution, obtained by scaling down this solution at a fixed point in space. This limit solution is an expanding soliton coming out of the asymptotic cone at infinity.

Stability of hyperbolic space under Ricci flow

We study the Ricci flow of initial metrics which are C^0-perturbations of the hyperbolic metric on H^n. If the perturbation is bounded in the L^2-sense, and small enough in the C^0-sense, then we show the following: In dimensions four and higher, the scaled Ricci harmonic map heat flow of such a metric converges smoothly, uniformly and exponentially fast in all C^k-norms and in the L^2-norm to the hyperbolic metric as time approaches infinity. We also prove a related result for the Ricci flow and for the two-dimensional conformal Ricci flow.
