Density-based one-dimensional model potentials for strong-field simulations in $\text{He}$, $\text{H}_{2}^{+}$ and $\text{H}_{2}$

We present results on the accurate one-dimensional (1D) modeling of simple atomic and molecular systems excited by strong laser fields. We use atomic model potentials that we derive from the corrections proposed earlier using the reduced ground state density of a three-dimensional (3D) single-active electron atom. The correction involves a change of the asymptotics of the 1D Coulomb model potentials while maintaining the correct ground state energy. We present three different applications of this method: we construct correct 1D models of the hydrogen molecular ion, the helium atom and the hydrogen molecule using improved parameters of existing soft-core Coulomb potential forms. We test these 1D models by comparing the corresponding numerical simulation results with their 3D counterparts in typical strong-field physics scenarios with near- and mid-infrared laser pulses, having peak intensities in the $10^{14}-10^{15}\,\mathrm{W/cm}^2$ range, and we find an impressively increased accuracy in the dynamics of the most important atomic quantities on the time scale of the excitation. We also present the high-order harmonic spectra of the He atom, computed using our 1D atomic model potentials. They show a very good match with the structure and phase obtained from the 3D simulations in an experimentally important range of excitation amplitudes.

Relativistic electron transport through an oscillating barrier: wave packet generation and Fano-type resonances

Transport properties of massive Dirac particles are investigated through an oscillating barrier. The Floquet quasienergies related to the time-dependent potential appear both in transmission and reflection as sidebands around the incoming electron's energy. We take all relevant sidebands into account and present time averaged transmission and reflection probabilities in a wide energy range. Most qualitative features of scattering on a static barrier -- like Klein paradox -- are still visible, but the transmission probability in the evanescent regime observably increases due to the oscillation of the potential. The strongly inelastic scattering process is shown to lead to multiple Fano-type resonances and temporal trapping of the particles inside the oscillating potential. We also present a detailed study of the time evolution of the wave packets generated in the scattering process. Our results can be relevant for graphene with an induced energy gap.

Two-dimensional quantum rings with oscillating spin-orbit interaction strength: A wave function picture

We determine the relevant spinor valued wave functions for a two-dimensional quantum ring in the presence of Rashba-type spin-orbit interaction (SOI). The case of constant SOI strength is considered first, then we investigate the physical consequences of time-dependent (oscillating) SOI strength. Floquet's method is applied to find time-dependent eigenspinors, and it is shown that the Floquet quasienergies and thus their differences (the generalized Rabi frequencies) are determined by the radial boundary conditions. Time evolution of various initial states is calculated.

An algebraic construction of the coherent states of the Morse potential based on SUSY QM

By introducing the shape invariant Lie algebra spanned by the SUSY ladder operators plus the unity operator, a new basis is presented for the quantum treatment of the one-dimensional Morse potential. In this discrete, complete orthonormal set, which we call the pseudo number states, the Morse Hamiltonian is tridiagonal. By using this basis we construct coherent states algebraically for the Morse potential, in a close analogy with the harmonic oscillator. We also show that there exists an unitary displacement operator creating these coherent states from the ground state. We show that our coherent states form a continuous and overcomplete set of states. They coincide with a class of states constructed earlier by Nieto and Simmons by using the coordinate representation. \pacs{3.65.Fd, 02.20.Sv, 42.50.-p}
