Anti-collinear resummation in JIMWLK evolution in the linear regime

The recently-proposed resummation procedure for anti-collinear logarithms in the JIMWLK kernel~\cite{Kovner:2023vsy} is studied in the linear (BFKL) regime in the fixed-coupling approximation. Simple closed form expressions for the resummed momentum space kernel and characteristic function $χ(n,γ)$ are found. We find that the anti-collinear pole in the leading order characteristic function at $γ=1$ disappears, and instead $χ(γ=1)=\frac{12}{11}\fracπ{α_sN_c}$ for $n_F=0$. Comparison with the known NLO BFKL eigenvalue, with the target-Bjorken limit ($Q_T\gg Q_P$) of the $γ^*(Q_P)+γ^*(Q_T)$-scattering amplitude and with the ``all-poles'' resummation prescription are presented.

NLO JIMWLK evolution with massive quarks

NLO evolution of the Jalilian-Marian-Iancu-McLerran-Weigert-Leonidov-Kovner (JIMWLK) equation with massless quarks was derived a few years ago. We make a step further to compute the evolution kernels focusing on the effects due to finite quark masses. To this goal, the light-cone wave function of a fast moving dilute hadronic projectile is computed up to ${\cal O}(g^3)$ in QCD coupling constant. Compared with the massless case, a new IR divergence emerges, which is eventually canceled by a mass dependent counter term. Our results extend the theoretical tools used in physics of gluon saturation and aim at improving precision in future phenomenological applications.

All order effective action for charge diffusion from Schwinger-Keldysh holography

An effective action for diffusion of a conserved $U(1)$ charge is derived to all orders in the derivative expansion within a holographic model dual to the Schwinger-Keldysh closed time path. A systematic approach to solution of the 5D Maxwell equations in a doubled Schwarzschild-AdS$_5$ black brane geometry is developed. Constitutive relation for the stochastic charge current is shown to have a term induced by thermal fluctuations (coloured noise). All transport coefficient functions parameterising the effective action and constitutive relations are computed analytically in the hydrodynamic expansion, and then numerically for finite momenta.

$U(1)$ current from the AdS/CFT: diffusion, conductivity and causality

For a holographically defined finite temperature theory, we derive an off-shell constitutive relation for a global $U(1)$ current driven by a weak external non-dynamical electromagnetic field. The constitutive relation involves an all order gradient expansion resummed into three momenta-dependent transport coefficient functions: diffusion, electric conductivity, and "magnetic" conductivity. These transport functions are first computed analytically in the hydrodynamic limit, up to third order in the derivative expansion, and then numerically for generic values of momenta. We also compute a diffusion memory function, which, as a result of all order gradient resummation, is found to be causal.

Anomalous transport from holography: Part I

We revisit the transport properties induced by the chiral anomaly in a charged plasma holographically dual to anomalous $U(1)_V\times U(1)_A$ Maxwell theory in Schwarzschild-$AdS_5$. Off-shell constitutive relations for vector and axial currents are derived using various approximations generalising most of known in the literature anomaly-induced phenomena and revealing some new ones. In a weak external field approximation, the constitutive relations have all-order derivatives resummed into six momenta-dependent transport coefficient functions: the diffusion, the electric/magnetic conductivity, and three anomaly induced functions. The latter generalise the chiral magnetic and chiral separation effects. Nonlinear transport is studied assuming presence of constant background external fields. The chiral magnetic effect, including all order nonlinearity in magnetic field, is proven to be exact when the magnetic field is the only external field that is turned on. Non-linear corrections to the constitutive relations due to electric and axial external fields are computed.

QCD unitarity constraints on Reggeon Field Theory

We point out that the $s$-channel unitarity of QCD imposes meaningful constraints on a possible form of the QCD Reggeon Field Theory. We show that neither the BFKL nor JIMWLK nor Braun's Hamiltonian satisfy the said constraints. In a toy, zero transverse dimensional case we construct a model that satisfies the analogous constraint and show that at infinite energy it indeed tends to a "black disk limit" as opposed to the model with triple Pomeron vertex only, routinely used as a toy model in the literature.

Bose enhancement and the ridge

We point out that Bose enhancement in a hadronic wave function generically leads to correlations between produced particles. We show explicitly, by calculating the projectile density matrix in the Color Glass Condensate approach to high-energy hadronic collisions, that the Bose enhancement of gluons in the projectile leads to azimuthal collimation of long range rapidity correlations of the produced particles, the so-called ridge correlations.

Entanglement entropy and entropy production in the Color Glass Condensate framework

We compute the entanglement entropy of soft gluons in the wave function of a fast moving hadron and discuss its basic properties. We also derive the expression for entropy production in a high energy hadronic collision within the Color Glass formalism. We show that long range rapidity correlations give negative contribution to the production entropy. We calculate the (naturally defined) temperature of the produced system of particles, and show that it is proportional to the average transverse momentum of the produced particles.

Heavy quarks in proton-nucleus collisions - the hybrid formalism

We explore the quark mass effects on inclusive hadron production in proton-nucleus collisions at high energies. We consider two processes. First, we compute the single inclusive cross-section for production of hadrons with open heavy flavour in the proton forward direction at leading order. Next, in the same kinematics, we calculate the heavy-quark contribution to single inclusive production of light or unidentified hadrons at next-to-leading-order. For both studies we exploit the hybrid formalism, that is the collinear factorisation on the proton side while high-density and high-energy effects are resummed on the side of the nucleus.

Hydrodynamics dual to Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity: all-order gradient resummation

Relativistic hydrodynamics dual to Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity in asymptotic $\textrm{AdS}_5$ space is under study. To linear order in the amplitude of the fluid velocity and temperature, we derive the fluid's stress-energy tensor via an all-order resummation of the derivative terms. Each order is accompanied by new transport coefficients, which all together could be compactly absorbed into two functions of momenta, referred to as viscosity functions. Via inverse Fourier transform, these viscosities appear as memory functions in the constitutive relation between components of the stress-energy tensor.

Linearized fluid/gravity correspondence: from shear viscosity to all order hydrodynamics

In ref. \cite{1406.7222}, we reported a construction of all order linearized fluid dynamics with strongly coupled $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory as underlying microscopic description. The linearized fluid/gravity correspondence makes it possible to resum all order derivative terms in the fluid stress tensor. Dissipative effects are fully encoded by the shear term and a new one, emerging starting from third order in hydrodynamic derivative expansion. In this work, we provide all computational details omitted in \cite{1406.7222} and present additional results. We derive closed-form linear holographic RG flow-type equations for momenta-dependent transport coefficient functions. Generalized Navier-Stokes equations are shown to emerge from the constraint components of the bulk Einstein equations. We perturbatively solve the RG equations for the viscosity functions, up to third order in derivative expansion, and up to this order compute spectrum of small fluctuations. Finally, we solve the RG equations numerically, thus accounting for all order derivative terms in the boundary stress tensor.

Linearly resummed hydrodynamics in a weakly curved spacetime

We extend our study of all-order linearly resummed hydrodynamics in a flat space~\cite{1406.7222,1409.3095} to fluids in weakly curved spaces. The underlying microscopic theory is a finite temperature $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory at strong coupling. The AdS/CFT correspondence relates black brane solutions of the Einstein gravity in asymptotically \emph{locally} $\textrm{AdS}_5$ geometry to relativistic conformal fluids in a weakly curved 4D background. To linear order in the amplitude of hydrodynamic variables and metric perturbations, the fluid's energy-momentum tensor is computed with derivatives of both the fluid velocity and background metric resummed to all orders. We extensively discuss the meaning of all order hydrodynamics by expressing it in terms of the memory function formalism, which is also suitable for practical simulations. In addition to two viscosity functions discussed at length in refs.~\cite{1406.7222,1409.3095}, we find four curvature induced structures coupled to the fluid via new transport coefficient functions. In ref.~\cite{0905.4069}, the latter were referred to as gravitational susceptibilities of the fluid. We analytically compute these coefficients in the hydrodynamic limit, and then numerically up to large values of momenta.

All Order Linearized Hydrodynamics from Fluid/Gravity Correspondence

Using fluid/gravity correspondence, we determine the (linearized) stress energy tensor of $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory at strong coupling with all orders in derivatives of fluid velocity included. We find that the dissipative effects are fully encoded in the shear term and a new one, which emerges starting from the third order. We derive, for the first time, closed linear holographic RG flow-type equations for (generalized) momenta-dependent viscosity functions. In the hydrodynamic regime, we obtain the stress tensor up to third order in derivative expansion analytically. We then numerically determine the viscosity functions up to large momenta. As a check of our results, we also derive the generalized Navier-Stokes equations from the Einstein equations in the dual gravity.

Conformal symmetry of JIMWLK Evolution at NLO

We construct the Next to Leading Order JIMWLK Hamiltonian for high energy evolution in ${\cal N}=4$ SUSY theory, and show that it possesses conformal invariance, even though it is derived using sharp cutoff on rapidity variable. The conformal transformation properties of Wilson lines are not quite the naive ones, but at NLO acquire an additional anomalous piece. We construct explicitly the inversion symmetry generator. We also show how to construct for every operator $O$, including the Hamiltonian itself, its "conformal extension" $\cal O$, such that it transforms under the inversion in the naive way.

Jalilian-Marian, Iancu, McLerran, Weigert, Leonidov, Kovner evolution at next to leading order

The Jalilian-Marian,Iancu, McLerran, Weigert, Leonidov, Kovner (JIMWLK) Hamiltonian for high energy evolution of QCD amplitudes is presented at the next-to-leading order accuracy in $α_s$. The form of the Hamiltonian is deduced from the symmetries and the structure of the hadronic light cone wavefunction and by comparing the rapidity evolution of the quark dipole and the three-quark singlet states with results available in the literature. The next-to-leading corrections should allow for more robust phenomenological applications of perturbative saturation approach.

KLWMIJ Reggeon Field Theory beyond the large $N_c$ limit

We extend the analysis of KLWMIJ evolution in terms of QCD Reggeon fields beyond leading order in the $1/N_c$ expansion. We show that there is only one type of corrections to the leading order Hamiltonian discussed in \cite{last}. These are terms linear in original Reggeons and quadratic in conjugate Reggeon operators. All of these have the interpretation as vertices of the "`merging"' type $2\rightarrow 1$, where two Reggeons merge into one. Importantly, the triple Pomeron merging vertex does not emerge from the KLWMIJ Hamiltonian. We show that, although in the range of applicability of the KLWMIJ Hamiltonian these merging terms are subleading in $N_c$, in the dense-dense regime they all become of the same (leading) order in $N_c$. In this regime vertices involving higher Reggeons are enhanced by inverse powers of the coupling constant.

NLO JIMWLK evolution unabridged

In Ref. [1] we presented the JIMWLK Hamiltonian for high energy evolution of QCD amplitudes at the next-to-leading order accuracy in $α_s$. In the present paper we provide details of our original derivation, which was not reported in [1], and provide the Hamiltonian in the form appropriate for action on color singlet as well as color nonsinglet states. The rapidity evolution of the quark dipole generated by this Hamiltonian is computed and compared with the corresponding result of Balitsky and Chirilli [2]. We then establish the equivalence between the NLO JIMWLK Hamiltonian and the NLO version of the Balitsky's hierarchy [3], which includes action on nonsinglet combinations of Wilson lines. Finally, we present complete evolution equation for three-quark Wilson loop operator, thus extending the results of Grabovsky [4].

Reggeon Field Theory for Large Pomeron Loops

We analyze the range of applicability of the high energy Reggeon Field Theory $H_{RFT}$ derived in [1]. We show that this theory is valid as long as at any intermediate value of rapidity $η$ throughout the evolution at least one of the colliding objects is dilute. Importantly, at some values of $η$ the dilute object could be the projectile, while at others it could be the target, so that $H_{RFT}$ does not reduce to either $H_{JIMWLK}$ or $H_{KLWMIJ}$. When both objects are dense, corrections to the evolution not accounted for in [1] become important. The same limitation applies to other approaches to high energy evolution available today, such as for example [3] and [4]. We also show that, in its regime of applicability $H_{RFT}$ can be simplified. We derive the simpler version of $H_{RFT}$ and in the large $N_c$ limit rewrite it in terms of the Reggeon creation and annihilation operators. The resulting $H_{RFT}$ is explicitly self dual and provides the generalization of the Pomeron calculus developed in [4] by including higher Reggeons in the evolution. It is applicable for description of `large' Pomeron loops, namely Reggeon graphs where all the splittings occur close in rapidity to one dilute object (projectile), while all the merging close to the other one (target). Additionally we derive, in the same regime expressions for single and double inclusive gluon production (where the gluons are not separated by a large rapidity interval) in terms of the Reggeon degrees of freedom.

Single-inclusive particle production in proton-nucleus collisions at next-to-leading order in the hybrid formalism

We reconsider the perturbative next-to-leading calculation of the single inclusive hadron production in the framework of the hybrid formalism, applied to hadron production in proton-nucleus collisions. Our analysis, performed in the wave function approach, differs from the previous works in three points. First, we are careful to specify unambiguously the rapidity interval that has to be included in the evolution of the leading-order eikonal scattering amplitude. This is important, since varying this interval by a number of order unity changes the next-to-leading order correction that the calculation is meant to determine. Second, we introduce the explicit requirement that fast fluctuations in the projectile wave function which only exist for a short time are not resolved by the target. This Ioffe time cutoff also strongly affects the next-to-leading order terms. Third, our result does not employ the approximation of a large number of colors. Our final expressions are unambiguous and do not coincide at next-to-leading order with the results available in the literature.

Angular and long range rapidity correlations in particle production at high energy

We discuss the general mechanism leading to long-range rapidity and angular correlations produced in high energy collisions (the "ridge"). This effect naturally appears in the high energy QCD and is strongly sensitive to physics of the gluon saturation. We comment on various recent practical realizations of the main idea, paying special attention to $N_c$ counting and stress the relevance of Pomeron loops.

On Angular Correlations and High Energy Evolution

We address the question to what extent JIMWLK evolution is capable of taking into account angular correlations in a high energy hadronic wave function. Our conclusion is that angular (and indeed other) correlations in the wave function cannot be reliably calculated without taking into account Pomeron loops in the evolution. As an example we study numerically the energy evolution of angular correlations between dipole scattering amplitudes in the framework of the large $N_c$ approximation to JIMWLK evolution (the "`projectile dipole model"'). Target correlations are introduced via averaging over (isotropic) ensemble of anisotropic initial conditions. We find that correlations disappear very quickly with rapidity even inside the saturation radius. This is in accordance with our physical picture of JIMWLK evolution. The actual correlations inside the saturation radius in the target QCD wave function, on the other hand should remain sizable at any rapidity.

preprint2010arXiv

Angular Correlations in Gluon Production at High Energy

We present a general, model independent argument demonstrating that gluons produced in high energy hadronic collision are necessarily correlated in rapidity and also in the emission angle. The strength of the correlation depends on the process and on the structure/model of the colliding particles. In particular we argue that it is strongly affected (and underestimated) by factorized approximations frequently used to quantify the effect.

Anomalous Chiral Superfluidity

We discuss both the anomalous Cartan currents and the energy-momentum tensor in a left chiral theory with flavour anomalies as an effective theory for flavored chiral phonons in a chiral superfluid with the gauged Wess-Zumino-Witten term. In the mean-field (leading tadpole) approximation the anomalous Cartan currents and the energy momentum tensor take the form of constitutive currents in the chiral superfluid state. The pertinence of higher order corrections and the Adler-Bardeen theorem is briefly noted.

Improved Hydrodynamics from the AdS/CFT

We generalize (linearized) relativistic hydrodynamics by including all order gradient expansion of the energy momentum tensor, parametrized by four momenta-dependend transport coefficients, one of which is the usual shear viscosity. We then apply the AdS/CFT duality for ${\cal N}=4$ SUSY in order to compute the retarded correlators of the energy-momentum tensor. From these correlators we determine a large set of transport coefficients of third- and fourth-order hydrodynamics. We find that higher order terms have a tendency to reduce the effect of viscosity.

Radiation of an electric charge in the field of a magnetic monopole

We consider the radiation of photons from quarks scattering on color-magnetic monopoles in the Quark-Gluon Plasma. We consider a temperature regime $T\gsim2T_c$, where monopoles can be considered as static, rare objects embedded into matter consisting mostly of the usual "electric" quasiparticles, quarks and gluons. The calculation is performed in the classical, non-relativistic approximation and results are compared to photon emission from Coulomb scattering of quarks, known to provide a significant contribution to the photon emission rates from QGP. The present study is a first step towards understanding whether this scattering process can give a sizeable contribution to dilepton production in heavy-ion collisions. Our results are encouraging: by comparing the magnitudes of the photon emission rate for the two processes, we find a dominance in the case of quark-monopole scattering. Our results display strong sensitivity to finite densities of quarks and monopoles.

Odderon and seven Pomerons: QCD Reggeon field theory from JIMWLK evolution

We reinterpret the JIMWLK/KLWMIJ evolution equation as the QCD Reggeon field theory (RFT). The basic "quantum Reggeon field" in this theory is the unitary matrix $R$ which represents the single gluon scattering matrix. We discuss the peculiarities of the Hilbert space on which the RFT Hamiltonian acts. We develop a perturbative expansion in the RFT framework, and find several eigenstates of the zeroth order Hamiltonian. The zeroth order of this perturbation preserves the number of $s$ - channel gluons. The eigenstates have a natural interpretation in terms of the $t$ - channel exchanges. Studying the single $s$ - channel gluon sector we find the eigenstates which include the reggeized gluon and five other colored Reggeons. In the two ($s$ - channel) gluon sector we study only singlet color exchanges. We find five charge conjugation even states. The bound state of two reggeized gluons is the standard BFKL Pomeron. The intercepts of the other Pomerons in the large $N$ limit are $1+ω_P=1+2ω$ where $1+ω$ is the intercept of the BFKL Pomeron, but their coupling in perturbation theory is suppressed by at least $1/N^2$ relative to the double BFKL Pomeron exchange. For the $[27,27]$ Pomeron we find $ω_{[27,27]}=2ω+O(1/N)>2ω$. We also find three charge conjugation odd exchanges, one of which is the unit intercept Bartels-Lipatov-Vacca Odderon, while another one has an interecept greater than unity. We explain in what sense our calculation goes beyond the standard BFKL/BKP calculation. We make additional comments and discuss open questions in our approach.

Remarks on High Energy Evolution

We make several remarks on the B-JIMWLK hierarchy. First, we present a simple and instructive derivation of this equation by considering an arbitrary projectile wave function with small number of valence gluons. We also generalize the equation by including corrections which incorporate effects of high density in the projectile wave function. Second, we systematically derive the dipole model approximation to the hierarchy. We show that in the dipole approximation the hierarchy has a simplifying property that allows its solution by solving the classical equation followed by averaging over the ensemble of initial conditions.
