Spectral multipliers and wave propagation for Hamiltonians with a scalar potential

We extend several fundamental estimates regarding spectral multipliers for the free Laplacian on $\mathbb R^3$ to the case of perturbed Hamiltonians of the form $-Δ+V$, where $V$ is a scalar real-valued potential. In this paper, we prove resolvent estimates, a dispersive bound for the perturbed wave propagator, Mihlin multiplier and fractional integration bounds, and the full range of wave equation Strichartz estimates, under optimal or almost optimal scaling-invariant conditions on the potential and on the spectral multipliers themselves.

Limiting absorption principle and Strichartz estimates for Dirac operators in two and higher dimensions

In this paper we consider Dirac operators in $\mathbb R^n$, $n\geq2$, with a potential $V$. Under mild decay and continuity assumptions on $V$ and some spectral assumptions on the operator, we prove a limiting absorption principle for the resolvent, which implies a family of Strichartz estimates for the linear Dirac equation. For large potentials the dynamical estimates are not an immediate corollary of the free case since the resolvent of the free Dirac operator does not decay in operator norm on weighted $L^2$ spaces as the frequency goes to infinity.

Dispersive Estimates for higher dimensional Schrödinger Operators with threshold eigenvalues I: The odd dimensional case

We investigate $L^1(\mathbb R^n)\to L^\infty(\mathbb R^n)$ dispersive estimates for the Schrödinger operator $H=-Δ+V$ when there is an eigenvalue at zero energy and $n\geq 5$ is odd. In particular, we show that if there is an eigenvalue at zero energy then there is a time dependent, rank one operator $F_t$ satisfying $\|F_t\|_{L^1\to L^\infty} \lesssim |t|^{2-\frac{n}{2}}$ for $|t|>1$ such that $$\|e^{itH}P_{ac}-F_t\|_{L^1\to L^\infty} \lesssim |t|^{1-\frac{n}{2}},\qquad\textrm{ for } |t|>1.$$ With stronger decay conditions on the potential it is possible to generate an operator-valued expansion for the evolution, taking the form $$ e^{itH} P_{ac}(H)=|t|^{2-\frac{n}{2}}A_{-2}+ |t|^{1-\frac{n}{2}} A_{-1}+|t|^{-\frac{n}{2}}A_0, $$ with $A_{-2}$ and $A_{-1}$ finite rank operators mapping $L^1(\mathbb R^n)$ to $L^\infty(\mathbb R^n)$ while $A_0$ maps weighted $L^1$ spaces to weighted $L^\infty$ spaces. The leading order terms $A_{-2}$ and $A_{-1}$ vanish when certain orthogonality conditions between the potential $V$ and the zero energy eigenfunctions are satisfied. We show that under the same orthogonality conditions, the remaining $|t|^{-\frac{n}{2}}A_0$ term also exists as a map from $L^1(\mathbb R^n)$ to $L^\infty(\mathbb R^n)$, hence $e^{itH}P_{ac}(H)$ satisfies the same dispersive bounds as the free evolution despite the eigenvalue at zero.

The Klein-Gordon Equation on ${\mathbb Z}^2$ and the Quantum Harmonic Lattice

The discrete Klein-Gordon equation on a two-dimensional square lattice satisfies an $\ell^1 \mapsto \ell^\infty$ dispersive bound with polynomial decay rate $|t|^{-3/4}$. We determine the shape of the light cone for any choice of the mass parameter and relative propagation speeds along the two coordinate axes. Fundamental solutions experience the least dispersion along four caustic lines interior to the light cone rather than along its boundary, and decay exponentially to arbitrary order outside the light cone. The overall geometry of the propagation pattern and its associated dispersive bounds are independent of the particular choice of parameters. In particular there is no bifurcation of the number or type of caustics that are present. The discrete Klein-Gordon equation is a classical analogue of the quantum harmonic lattice. In the quantum setting, commutators of time-shifted observables experience the same decay rates as the corresponding Klein-Gordon solutions, which depend in turn on the relative location of the observables' support sets.

Transport in the One-Dimensional Schroedinger Equation

We prove a dispersive estimate for the one-dimensional Schroedinger equation, mapping between weighted $L^p$ spaces with stronger time-decay ($t^{-3/2}$ versus $t^{-1/2}$) than is possible on unweighted spaces. To satisfy this bound, the long-term behavior of solutions must include transport away from the origin. Our primary requirements are that $(1+|x|)^3 V$ be integrable and $-Δ+ V$ not have a resonance at zero energy. If a resonance is present (for example in the free case), similar estimates are valid after projecting away from a rank-one subspace corresponding to the resonance.

Dispersive estimates for four dimensional Schrödinger and wave equations with obstructions at zero energy

We investigate $L^1(\mathbb R^4)\to L^\infty(\mathbb R^4)$ dispersive estimates for the Schrödinger operator $H=-Δ+V$ when there are obstructions, a resonance or an eigenvalue, at zero energy. In particular, we show that if there is a resonance or an eigenvalue at zero energy then there is a time dependent, finite rank operator $F_t$ satisfying $\|F_t\|_{L^1\to L^\infty} \lesssim 1/\log t$ for $t>2$ such that $$\|e^{itH}P_{ac}-F_t\|_{L^1\to L^\infty} \lesssim t^{-1},\,\,\,\,\,\text{for} t>2.$$ We also show that the operator $F_t=0$ if there is an eigenvalue but no resonance at zero energy. We then develop analogous dispersive estimates for the solution operator to the four dimensional wave equation with potential.

Strichartz Estimates and Maximal Operators for the Wave Equation in R^3

We prove sharp Strichartz-type estimates in three dimensions, including some which hold in reverse spacetime norms, for the wave equation with potential. These results are also tied to maximal operator estimates studied by Rogers--Villaroya, of which we prove a sharper version. As a sample application, we use these results to prove the local well-posedness and the global well-posedness for small initial data of semilinear wave equations in R^3 with quintic or higher monomial nonlinearities.

Schrödinger dispersive estimates for a scaling-critical class of potentials

We prove a dispersive estimate for the evolution of Schroedinger operators H = -Δ+ V(x) in three dimensions. The potential should belong to the closure of bounded compactly-supported functions with respect to the golbal Kato norm. Some additional spectral conditions are imposed, namely that no resonances or eigenfunctions of H exist anywhere on the positive half-line. The proof is an application of a new version of Wiener's L^1 inversion theorem.
