Commutativity of First-order Discrete-Time Linear Time-varying Systems

After introducing the concept of commutativity for continuous-time linear time-varying systems, the related literature and the results obtained so far are presented. For a simple introduction of the commutativity of discrete-time linear time-varying systems, the problem is formulated for first-order systems. Finally, explicit necessary and sufficient conditions for the commutativity of first-order discrete-time linear time-varying systems are derived, and their advantageous use in digital system design is illustrated; which are the main objectives of the paper. The results are verified by examples which include an application in amplitude modulation for digital telecommunication.

Commutativity of Systems with their Feedback Conjugates

After introducing commutativity concept and summarizing the relevant literature, this work is focused on the commutativity of feedback conjugates. It is already known that a linear time-varying differential system describing a single input-single output dynamical system is always commutative with its constant gain feedback pairs. In this article, it is proven that among the time-varying feedback conjugates of a linear time-varying system, constant feedback conjugates are the only commutative feedback pairs and any of the time-varying feedback conjugates cannot constitutes a commutative pair of a linear time-varying system.

Decomposition of Third Order Linear Time-Varying System into its Second and First Order Commutative Pairs

Decomposition is a common tool for synthesis of many physical systems. It is also used for analyzing large scale systems which then known as tearing and reconstruction. On the other hand, commutativity of cascade connected systems have gained a grade deal of interest and its possible benefits have been pointed out on the literature. In this paper, the necessary and sufficient conditions for decomposition of any third order linear time-varying system as a commutative pair of first and second order systems of which parameters are also explicitly expressed, are investigated. Further, additional requirements in case of non-zero initial conditions are derived. This paper highlights the direct formulas for realization of any third order linear time-varying system as a series (cascade) connection of first and second order subsystems. This series connection is commutative so that it is independent from the sequence of subsystems in the connection. Hence, the convenient sequence can be decided by considering the overall performance of the system when the sensitivity, disturbance and robustness effects are considered. Realization covers transient responses as well as steady state responses.

Explicit Commutativity Conditions for Second-order Linear Time-Varying Systems with Non-Zero Initial Conditions

Although the explicit commutativitiy conditions for second-order linear time-varying systems have been appeared in some literature, these are all for initially relaxed systems. This paper presents explicit necessary and sufficient commutativity conditions for commutativity of second-order linear time-varying systems with non-zero initial conditions. It has appeared interesting that the second requirement for the commutativity of non-relaxed systems plays an important role on the commutativity conditions when non-zero initial conditions exist. Another highlight is that the commutativity of switched systems is considered and spoiling of commutativity at the switching instants is illustrated for the first time. The simulation results support the theory developed in the paper.

Stability Analysis of Fractional Differential Equations with Unknown Parameters

In this paper, the stability of fractional differential equations (FDEs) with unknown parameters is studied. FDEs bring many advantages to model the physical systems in the nature or man-made systems in the industry. Because this representation has a property between linear differential equations and nonlinear differential equations. Therefore, the designer may use the FDEs to model complex systems instead of nonlinear differential equations which have hard mathematical background. Using the graphical based D-decomposition method, we investigate the parametric stability analysis of FDEs without complicated mathematical analysis. To achieve this, stability boundaries are obtained firstly, and then the stability region set depending on the unknown parameters is found. The applicability of the presented method is shown considering some benchmark equations which are often used to verify the results of a new method. Simulation examples shown that the method is simple and give reliable stability results.

Transitivity of Commutativity for Linear Time-Varying Analog Systems

In this contribution, the transitivity property of commutative first-order linear time-varying systems is investigated with and without initial conditions. It is proven that transitivity property of first-order systems holds with and without initial conditions. On the base of impulse response function, transitivity of commutation property is formulated for any triplet of commutative linear time-varying relaxed systems. Transitivity proves are given for some special combinations of first and second-order linear time-varying systems which are initially relaxed.

Transitivity of Commutativity for Second-Order Linear Time-Varying Analog Systems

After reviewing commutativity of second-order linear time-varying analog systems, the inverse commutativity conditions are derived for these systems by considering non-zero initial conditions. On the base of these conditions, the transitivity property is studied for second order linear time-varying unrelaxed analog systems. It is proven that this property is always valid for such systems when their initial states are zero; when non-zero initial states are present, it is shown that the validity of transitivity does not require any more conditions and it is still valid. Throughout the study it is assumed that the subsystems considered can not be obtained from each other by any feed-forward and feed-back structure. The results are well validated by MATLAB simulations.
