PYTHIA 8 underlying event tune For RHIC energies

We report an underlying event tune for the PYTHIA 8 Monte Carlo event generator that is applicable for hadron collisions primarily at $\sqrt{s}$ ranges available at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC). We compare our new PYTHIA 8 tuned predictions to mid-rapidity inclusive $π^{\pm}$ spectra, jet sub-structure, Drell-Yan production, and underlying event measurements from RHIC and the Tevatron, as well as underlying event data from the Large Hadron Collider. With respect to the default PYTHIA 8 Monash Tune, the new `Detroit' tune shows significant improvements in the description of the experimental data. Additionally, we explore the validity of PYTHIA 8 predictions for forward rapidity $π$ in $\sqrt{s}$ = 200 GeV collisions, where neither tune is able to sufficiently describe the data. We advocate for the new tune to be used for PYTHIA 8 studies at current and future RHIC experiments, and discuss future tuning exercises at lower center-of-mass energies, where forward/backward kinematics are essential at the upcoming Electron-Ion collider.

EIC Physics from An All-Silicon Tracking Detector

The proposed electron-ion collider has a rich physics program to study the internal structure of protons and heavy nuclei. This program will impose strict requirements on detector design. This paper explores how these requirements can be satisfied using an all-silicon tracking detector, by consideration of three representative probes: heavy flavor hadrons, jets, and exclusive vector mesons.

Probing gluon helicity with heavy flavor at the EIC

We propose a new measurement of the heavy flavor hadron double spin asymmetry in deep-inelastic scattering at a future Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) to constrain the polarized gluon distribution function inside the proton. Statistical projection on $D^0$ meson double spin asymmetry is calculated with an EIC central detector using an all-silicon tracker and vertexing subsystem. A first impact study was done by interpreting pseudo-data at next-to-leading order in QCD. The sensitivity of the experimental observable in constraining gluon helicity distribution in a wide range of parton momentum fraction $x$ has been investigated considering different beam energy configurations. This measurement complements the inclusive spin-dependent structure function measurement and provides an opportunity to constrain the gluon helicity distribution in the moderate $x$ region.

Nuclear modification factors, directed and elliptic flow of electrons from open heavy flavor decays in Au+Au collisions from STAR

We present the analyses of single electrons from semileptonic bottom and charm hadron decays at mid-rapidity in $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 and 54.4 GeV Au+Au collisions (talk in Heavy-Flavor session III). The data at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV incorporate information from the Heavy Flavor Tracker which enables the topological separation of electrons originating from bottom and charm hadron decays. We report the first STAR measurements at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV of $v_{2}$ for bottom decay electrons as a function of $p_{T}$ and $v_{1}$ for charm decay electrons as a function of electron rapidity. Additionally, we present the improved measurements of heavy-flavor decay electron $R_{AA}$ and a new measurement of the ratio of $R_{CP}$ between bottom and charm decay electrons. Finally, we also report the measurement of non-photonic electron $v_{2}$ in $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 54.4 GeV data collected during the 2017 RHIC run.
