Nonadiabatic Correction and Adiabatic Criteria of Noninteracting Quantum Dot Systems

We theoretically study nonadiabatic corrections for charge pumping in a noninteracting electron model of a single-level quantum dot. We derive a formula for the velocity limit of parameter driving to realize adiabatic pumping and illustrate its features in the wide-band limit. We discuss the effect of the nonadiabatic corrections in terms of a typical velocity limit, which is defined by averaging the velocity limits on the parameter contour. We also show that the typical velocity limit vanishes when the adiabaticity breakdown occurs in a quantum dot coupled to reservoirs with a band edge.

Delta-T noise in the Kondo regime

We study the delta-T noise in the Kondo regime, which implies the charge current noise under the temperature bias for the SU(2) Kondo quantum dot. We propose an experimentally measurable quantity to quantify the low-temperature properties in the delta-T noise: $S_{\ell}=S(T_{\mathrm{L}},T_{\mathrm{R}}) - (1/2)[S(T_{\mathrm{L}},T_{\mathrm{L}}) + S(T_{\mathrm{R}},T_{\mathrm{R}})]$, which yields the shot noise expression in the noninteracting limit. We calculate this quantity for the SU(2) Kondo quantum dot in the particle-hole symmetric case. We found that the $S_{\ell}$ exhibits qualitatively the same behavior in both the electrochemical potential biased case and the temperature biased case. The quantitative difference appears as a difference of the coefficients of the noises, which reflects the difference of the Fermi distribution function: electrochemical potential biased or temperature biased.

Geometrical optimization of pumping power under adiabatic parameter driving

Adiabatic pumping is a fundamental concept in the time-dependent transport of mesoscopic devices. To maximize pumping performance, i.e., the amount of pumping per unit time, it is necessary to carefully manage the driving speed, which should be sufficiently less than the {\it limited speed}, an upper bound of the driving speed below which non-adiabatic effects are negligible. In general, the amount of pumping increases as the contour of the driving parameter lengthens, however a long contour diminishes the pumping power because it requires more time per cycle under the limited speed constraint. We consider this trade-off carefully and show that there should exist an optimized period and contour to maximize the power of adiabatic pumping. We confirm this conclusion based on the results of charge pumping using a single-level quantum dot.
