The colored Jones polynomials as vortex partition functions

We construct 3D $\mathcal{N}=2$ abelian gauge theories on $\mathbb{S}^2 \times \mathbb{S}^1$ labeled by knot diagrams whose K-theoretic vortex partition functions, each of which is a building block of twisted indices, give the colored Jones polynomials of knots in $\mathbb{S}^3$. The colored Jones polynomials are obtained as the Wilson loop expectation values along knots in $SU(2)$ Chern-Simons gauge theories on $\mathbb{S}^3$, and then our construction provides an explicit correspondence between 3D $\mathcal{N}=2$ abelian gauge theories and 3D $SU(2)$ Chern-Simons gauge theories. We verify, in particular, the applicability of our constructions to a class of tangle diagrams of 2-bridge knots with certain specific twists.

$\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}(n)_N$ WZW conformal blocks from $SU(N)$ instanton partition functions on ${\mathbb {C}}^2/{\mathbb {Z}}_n$

Generalizations of the AGT correspondence between 4D $\mathcal{N}=2$ $SU(2)$ supersymmetric gauge theory on ${\mathbb {C}}^2$ with $Ω$-deformation and 2D Liouville conformal field theory include a correspondence between 4D $\mathcal{N}=2$ $SU(N)$ supersymmetric gauge theories, $N = 2, 3, \ldots$, on ${\mathbb {C}}^2/{\mathbb {Z}}_n$, $n = 2, 3, \ldots$, with $Ω$-deformation and 2D conformal field theories with $\mathcal{W}^{\, para}_{N, n}$ ($n$-th parafermion $\mathcal{W}_N$) symmetry and $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}(n)_N$ symmetry. In this work, we trivialize the factor with $\mathcal{W}^{\, para}_{N, n}$ symmetry in the 4D $SU(N)$ instanton partition functions on ${\mathbb {C}}^2/{\mathbb {Z}}_n$ (by using specific choices of parameters and imposing specific conditions on the $N$-tuples of Young diagrams that label the states), and extract the 2D $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}(n)_N$ WZW conformal blocks, $n = 2, 3, \ldots$, $N = 1, 2, \ldots\, .$

$n$-th parafermion $\mathcal{W}_N$ characters from $U(N)$ instanton counting on ${\mathbb {C}}^2/{\mathbb {Z}}_n$

We propose, following the AGT correspondence, how the $\mathcal{W}^{\, para}_{N, n}$ ($n$-th parafermion $\mathcal{W}_N$) minimal model characters are obtained from the $U(N)$ instanton counting on ${\mathbb {C}}^2/{\mathbb {Z}}_n$ with $Ω$-deformation by imposing specific conditions which remove the minimal model null states.

Nested coordinate Bethe wavefunctions from the Bethe/gauge correspondence

In [1, 2], Nekrasov applied the Bethe/gauge correspondence to derive the $\mathfrak{su}\, (2)$ XXX spin-chain coordinate Bethe wavefunction from the IR limit of a 2D $\mathcal{N}=(2, 2)$ supersymmetric $A_1$ quiver gauge theory with an orbifold-type codimension-2 defect. Later, Bullimore, Kim and Lukowski implemented Nekrasov's construction at the level of the UV $A_1$ quiver gauge theory, recovered his result, and obtained further extensions of the Bethe/gauge correspondence [3]. In this work, we extend the construction of the defect to $A_M$ quiver gauge theories to obtain the $\mathfrak{su} \, ( M + 1 )$ XXX spin-chain nested coordinate Bethe wavefunctions. The extension to XXZ spin-chain is straightforward. Further, we apply a Higgsing procedure to obtain more general $A_M$ quivers and the corresponding wavefunctions, and interpret this procedure (and the Hanany-Witten moves that it involves) on the spin-chain side in terms of Izergin-Korepin-type specializations (and re-assignments) of the parameters of the coordinate Bethe wavefunctions.

Open Mirror Symmetry for Higher Dimensional Calabi-Yau Hypersurfaces

Compactifications with fluxes and branes motivate us to study various enumerative invariants of Calabi-Yau manifolds. In this paper, we study non-perturbative corrections depending on both open and closed string moduli for a class of compact Calabi-Yau manifolds in general dimensions. Our analysis is based on the methods using relative cohomology and generalized hypergeometric system. For the simplest example of compact Calabi-Yau fivefold, we explicitly derive the associated Picard-Fuchs differential equations and compute the quantum corrections in terms of the open and closed flat coordinates. Implications for a kind of open-closed duality are also discussed.

Stringy Instanton Counting and Topological Strings

We study the stringy instanton partition function of four dimensional ${\cal N}=2$ $U(N)$ supersymmetric gauge theory which was obtained by Bonelli et al in 2013. In type IIB string theory on $\mathbb{C}^2\times T^*\mathbb{P}^1\times \mathbb{C}$, the stringy $U(N)$ instantons of charge $k$ are described by $k$ D1-branes wrapping around the $\mathbb{P}^1$ bound to $N$ D5-branes on $\mathbb{C}^2\times \mathbb{P}^1$. The KK corrections induced by compactification of the $\mathbb{P}^1$ give the stringy corrections. We find a relation between the stringy instanton partition function whose quantum stringy corrections have been removed and the K-theoretic instanton partition function, or by geometric engineering, the refined topological A-model partition function on a local toric Calabi-Yau threefold. We also study the quantum stringy corrections in the stringy instanton partition function which is not captured by the refined topological strings.

Exact Kahler Potential for Calabi-Yau Fourfolds

We study quantum Kahler moduli space of Calabi-Yau fourfolds. Our analysis is based on the recent work by Jockers et al. which gives a novel method to compute the Kahler potential on the quantum Kahler moduli space of Calabi-Yau manifold. In contrast to Calabi-Yau threefold, the quantum nature of higher dimensional Calabi-Yau manifold is yet to be fully elucidated. In this paper we focus on the Calabi-Yau fourfold. In particular, we conjecture the explicit form of the quantum-corrected Kahler potential. We also compute the genus zero Gromov-Witten invariants and test our conjecture by comparing the results with predictions from mirror symmetry. Local toric Calabi-Yau varieties are also discussed.

Deformed planar topological open string amplitudes on Seiberg-Witten curve

We study refined B-model via the beta ensemble of matrix models. Especially, for four dimensional N=2 SU(2) supersymmetric gauge theories with N_f=0,1 and 2 fundamental flavors, we discuss the correspondence between deformed disk amplitudes on each Seiberg-Witten curve and the Nekrasov-Shatashvili limit of the corresponding irregular one point block of a degenerate operator via the AGT correspondence. We also discuss the relation between deformed annulus amplitudes and the irregular two point block of the degenerate operator, and check a desired agreement for N_f=0 and 1 cases.

Localization with a Surface Operator, Irregular Conformal Blocks and Open Topological String

Following a recent paper by Alday and Tachikawa, we compute the instanton partition function in the presence of the surface operator by the localization formula on the moduli space. For SU(2) theories we find an exact agreement with CFT correlation functions with a degenerate operator insertion, which enables us to work out the decoupling limit of the superconformal theory with four flavors to asymptotically free theories at the level of differential equations for CFT correlation functions (irregular conformal blocks). We also argue that the K theory (or five dimensional) lift of these computations gives open topological string amplitudes on local Hirzebruch surface and its blow ups, which is regarded as a geometric engineering of the surface operator. By computing the amplitudes in both A and B models we collect convincing evidences of the agreement of the instanton partition function with surface operator and the partition function of open topological string.

The Volume Conjecture, Perturbative Knot Invariants, and Recursion Relations for Topological Strings

We study the relation between perturbative knot invariants and the free energies defined by topological string theory on the character variety of the knot. Such a correspondence between SL(2;C) Chern-Simons gauge theory and the topological open string theory was proposed earlier on the basis of the volume conjecture and AJ conjecture. In this paper we discuss this correspondence beyond the subleading order in the perturbative expansion on both sides. In the computation of the perturbative invariants for the hyperbolic 3-manifold, we adopt the state integral model for the hyperbolic knots, and the factorized AJ conjecture for the torus knots. On the other hand, we iteratively compute the free energies on the character variety using the Eynard-Orantin topological recursion relation. We check the correspondence for the figure eight knot complement and the once punctured torus bundle over S^1 with the holonomy L^2R up to the fourth order. For the torus knots, we find trivial the recursion relations on both sides.

Topological open string amplitudes on local toric del Pezzo surfaces via remodeling the B-model

We study topological strings on local toric del Pezzo surfaces by a method called remodeling the B-model which was recently proposed by Bouchard, Klemm, Marino and Pasquetti. For a large class of local toric del Pezzo surfaces we prove a functional formula of the Bergman kernel which is the basic constituent of the topological string amplitudes by the topological recursion relation of Eynard and Orantin. Because this formula is written as a functional of the period, we can obtain the topological string amplitudes at any point of the moduli space by a simple change of variables of the Picard-Fuchs equations for the period. By this formula and mirror symmetry we compute the A-model amplitudes on K_{F_2}, and predict the open orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants of C^3/Z_4.
