Hydrodynamic limit of the zero range process on a randomly oriented graph

We prove the hydrodynamic limit of a totally asymmetric zero range process on a torus with two lanes and randomly oriented edges. The asymmetry implies that the model is non-reversible. The random orientation of the edges is constructed in a bistochastic fashion which keeps the usual product distribution stationary for the quenched zero range model. It is also arranged to have no overall drift along the Z direction, which suggests diffusive scaling despite the asymmetry present in the dynamics. Indeed, using the relative entropy method, we prove the quenched hydrodynamic limit to be the heat equation with a diffusion coefficient depending on ergodic properties of the orientation of the edges. The zero range process on this graph turns out to be non-gradient. Our main novelty is the introduction of a local equilibrium measure which decomposes the vertices of the graph into components of constant density. A clever choice of these components eliminates the non-gradient problems that normally arise during the hydrodynamic limit procedure.

Interacting Particle Systems and Jacobi Style Identities

We consider the family of nearest neighbour interacting particle systems on $\mathbb{Z}$ allowing $0$, $1$ or $2$ particles at a site. We parametrize a wide subfamily of processes exhibiting product blocking measure and show how this family can be "stood up" in the sense of Balázs and Bowen (2018). By comparing measures we prove new three variable Jacobi style identities, related to counting certain generalised Frobenius partitions with a $2$-repetition condition. By specialising to specific processes we produce two variable identities that are shown to relate to Jacobi triple product and various other identities of combinatorial significance. The family of $k$-exclusion processes for arbitrary $k$ are also considered and are shown to give similar Jacobi style identities relating to counting generalised Frobenius partitions with a $k$-repetition condition.

Coexistence of shocks and rarefaction fans: complex phase diagram of a simple hyperbolic particle system

This paper investigates the non-equilibrium hydrodynamic behavior of a simple totally asymmetric interacting particle system of particles, antiparticles and holes on $\mathbb{Z}$. Rigorous hydrodynamic results apply to our model with a hydrodynamic flux that is exactly calculated and shown to change convexity in some region of the model parameters. We then characterize the entropy solutions of the hydrodynamic equation with step initial condition in this scenario which include various mixtures of rarefaction fans and shock waves. We highlight how the phase diagram of the model changes by varying the model parameters.

Dependent Double Branching Annihilating Random Walk

Double (or parity conserving) branching annihilating random walk, introduced by Sudbury in '90, is a one-dimensional non-attractive particle system in which positive and negative particles perform nearest neighbor hopping, produce two offsprings to neighboring lattice points and annihilate when they meet. Given an odd number of initial particles, positive recurrence as seen from the leftmost particle position was first proved by Belitsky, Ferrari, Menshikov and Popov in '01 and, subsequently in a much more general setup, in the article by Sturm and Swart (Tightness of voter model interfaces) in '08. These results assume that jump rates of the various moves do not depend on the configuration of the particles not involved in these moves. The present article deals with the case when the jump rates are affected by the locations of several particles in the system. Motivation for such models comes from non-attractive interacting particle systems with particle conservation. Under suitable assumptions we establish the existence of the process, and prove that the one-particle state is positive recurrent. We achieve this by arguments similar to those appeared in the previous article by Sturm and Swart. We also extend our results to some cases of long range jumps, when branching can also occur to non-neighboring sites. We outline and discuss several particular examples of models where our results apply.

Electric network for non-reversible Markov chains

We give an analogy between non-reversible Markov chains and electric networks much in the flavour of the classical reversible results originating from Kakutani, and later Kemény-Snell-Knapp and Kelly. Non-reversibility is made possible by a voltage multiplier -- a new electronic component. We prove that absorption probabilities, escape probabilities, expected number of jumps over edges and commute times can be computed from electrical properties of the network as in the classical case. The central quantity is still the effective resistance, which we do have in our networks despite the fact that individual parts cannot be replaced by a simple resistor. We rewrite a recent non-reversible result of Gaudillière-Landim about the Dirichlet and Thomson principles into the electrical language. We also give a few tools that can help in reducing and solving the network. The subtlety of our network is, however, that the classical Rayleigh monotonicity is lost.

Fluctuation bounds in the exponential bricklayers process

This paper is the continuation of our earlier paper, where we proved t^{1/3}-order of current fluctuations across the characteristics in a class of one dimensional interacting systems with one conserved quantity. We also claimed two models with concave hydrodynamic flux which satisfied the assumptions which made our proof work. In the present note we show that the totally asymmetric exponential bricklayers process also satisfies these assumptions. Hence this is the first example with convex hydrodynamics of a model with t^{1/3}-order current fluctuations across the characteristics. As such, it further supports the idea of universality regarding this scaling.
