Shifting operations and completely tt-spread lexsegment ideals

In this paper we introduce the concepts of arbitrary tt-spread lexsegments and of arbitrary tt-spread lexsegment ideals with tt a positive integer. These concepts are a natural generalization of arbitrary lexsegments and arbitrary lexsegment ideals. An ideal generated by an arbitrary tt-spread lexsegment is called completely tt-spread lexsegment if it is equal to the intersection of an initial tt-spread lexsegment ideal and of a final tt-spread lexsegment ideal. We study the class of arbitrary tt-spread lexsegment ideals. In particular, we characterize all completely tt-spread lexsegment ideals. Moreover, we classify all completely tt-spread lexsegment ideals with a linear resolution.

Bounding Betti numbers of monomial ideals in the exterior algebra

Let KK be a field, VV a KK-vector space with basis e1,…,ene_1,\ldots,e_n, and EE the exterior algebra of VV. To a given monomial ideal I⊊EI\subsetneq E we associate a special monomial ideal JJ with generators in the same degrees as those of II and such that the number of the minimal monomial generators in each degree of II and JJ coincide. We call JJ the colexsegment ideal associated to II. We prove that the class of strongly stable ideals in EE generated in one degree satisfies the colex lower bound, that is, the total Betti numbers of the colexsegment ideal associated to a strongly stable ideal I⊊EI\subsetneq E generated in one degree are smaller than or equal to those of II.

Koszulness of binomial edge ideals

Let GG be a simple graph on the vertex set V(G)=[n]={1,...,n}V(G) = [n] = \{1,...,n\} and edge ideal E(G)E(G). We consider the class of closed graphs. A closed graph is a simple graph satisfying the following property: for all edges {i,j}\{i, j\} and {k,ℓ}\{k, \ell\} with i<ji < j and k<ℓk < \ell one has {j,ℓ}∈E(G)\{j, \ell\}\in E(G) if i=ki = k, and {i,k}∈E(G)\{i, k\}\in E(G) if j=ℓj = \ell. We state some criteria for the closedness of a graph GG that do not depend necessarily from the labelling of its vertex set. Consequently, if S=K[x1,...,xn,y1,...,yn]S = K[x_1,..., x_n, y_1,..., y_n] is a polynomial ring in 2n2n variables with coefficients in a field KK, we obtain some criteria for the Koszulness of the quotient algebra S/JGS /J_G, where JGJ_G is the binomial edge ideal of SS i.e. the ideal generated by the binomials fij=xiyj−xjyif_{ij} = x_iy_j - x_jy_i such that i<ji<j and {i,j}\{i,j\} is an edge of GG (\cite{HH}).
