A Weak Dynamic Programming Principle for Combined Optimal Stopping and Stochastic Control with $\mathcal{E}^f$- expectations

We study a combined optimal control/stopping problem under a nonlinear expectation ${\cal E}^f$ induced by a BSDE with jumps, in a Markovian framework. The terminal reward function is only supposed to be Borelian. The value function $u$ associated with this problem is generally irregular. We first establish a {\em sub- (resp. super-) optimality principle of dynamic programming} involving its {\em upper- (resp. lower-) semicontinuous envelope} $u^*$ (resp. $u_*$). This result, called {\em weak} dynamic programming principle (DPP), extends that obtained in \cite{BT} in the case of a classical expectation to the case of an ${\cal E}^f$-expectation and Borelian terminal reward function. Using this {\em weak} DPP, we then prove that $u^*$ (resp. $u_*$) is a {\em viscosity sub- (resp. super-) solution} of a nonlinear Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman variational inequality.

Mixed generalized Dynkin game and stochastic control in a Markovian framework

We introduce a mixed {\em generalized} Dynkin game/stochastic control with ${\cal E}^f$-expectation in a Markovian framework. We study both the case when the terminal reward function is supposed to be Borelian only and when it is continuous. We first establish a weak dynamic programming principle by using some refined results recently provided in \cite{DQS} and some properties of doubly reflected BSDEs with jumps (DRBSDEs). We then show a stronger dynamic programming principle in the continuous case, which cannot be derived from the weak one. In particular, we have to prove that the value function of the problem is continuous with respect to time $t$, which requires some technical tools of stochastic analysis and some new results on DRBSDEs. We finally study the links between our mixed problem and generalized Hamilton Jacobi Bellman variational inequalities in both cases.

Generalized Dynkin Games and Doubly Reflected BSDEs with Jumps

We introduce a generalized Dynkin game problem with non linear conditional expectation ${\cal E}$ induced by a Backward Stochastic Differential Equation (BSDE) with jumps. Let $ξ, ζ$ be two RCLL adapted processes with $ξ\leq ζ$. The criterium is given by \begin{equation*} {\cal J}_{τ, σ}= {\cal E}_{0, τ\wedge σ} \left(ξ_τ\textbf{1}_{\{ τ\leq σ\}}+ζ_σ\textbf{1}_{\{σ<τ\}}\right) \end{equation*} where $τ$ and $ σ$ are stopping times valued in $[0,T]$. Under Mokobodski's condition, we establish the existence of a value function for this game, i.e. $\inf_σ\sup_τ {\cal J}_{τ, σ} = \sup_τ \inf_σ {\cal J}_{τ, σ}$. This value can be characterized via a doubly reflected BSDE. Using this characterization, we provide some new results on these equations, such as comparison theorems and a priori estimates. When $ξ$ and $ζ$ are left upper semicontinuous along stopping times, we prove the existence of a saddle point. We also study a generalized mixed game problem when the players have two actions: continuous control and stopping. We then address the generalized Dynkin game in a Markovian framework and its links with parabolic partial integro-differential variational inequalities with two obstacles.

Dynkin games in a general framework

We revisit the Dynkin game problem in a general framework, improve classical results and relax some assumptions. The criterion is expressed in terms of families of random variables indexed by stopping times. We construct two nonnegative supermartingales families $J$ and $J'$ whose finitness is equivalent to the Mokobodski's condition. Under some weak right-regularity assumption, the game is shown to be fair and $J-J'$ is shown to be the common value function. Existence of saddle points is derived under some weak additional assumptions. All the results are written in terms of random variables and are proven by using only classical results of probability theory.

Optimal stopping in a general framework

We study the optimal stopping time problem $v(S)={\rm ess}\sup_{θ\geq S} E[ϕ(θ)|\mathcal {F}_S]$, for any stopping time $S$, where the reward is given by a family $(ϕ(θ),θ\in\mathcal{T}_0)$ \emph{of non negative random variables} indexed by stopping times. We solve the problem under weak assumptions in terms of integrability and regularity of the reward family. More precisely, we only suppose $v(0) < + \infty$ and $ (ϕ(θ),θ\in \mathcal{T}_0)$ upper semicontinuous along stopping times in expectation. We show the existence of an optimal stopping time and obtain a characterization of the minimal and the maximal optimal stopping times. We also provide some local properties of the value function family. All the results are written in terms of families of random variables and are proven by only using classical results of the Probability Theory.

Portfolio optimization in a default model under full/partial information

In this paper, we consider a financial market with assets exposed to some risks inducing jumps in the asset prices, and which can still be traded after default times. We use a default-intensity modeling approach, and address in this incomplete market context the problem of maximization of expected utility from terminal wealth for logarithmic, power and exponential utility functions. We study this problem as a stochastic control problem both under full and partial information. Our contribution consists in showing that the optimal strategy can be obtained by a direct approach for the logarithmic utility function, and the value function for the power utility function can be determined as the minimal solution of a backward stochastic differential equation. For the partial information case, we show how the problem can be divided into two problems: a filtering problem and an optimization problem. We also study the indifference pricing approach to evaluate the price of a contingent claim in an incomplete market and the information price for an agent with insider information.

Reflected BSDEs and robust optimal stopping for dynamic risk measures with jumps

We study the optimal stopping problem for dynamic risk measures represented by Backward Stochastic Differential Equations (BSDEs) with jumps and its relation with reflected BSDEs (RBSDEs). We first provide general existence, uniqueness and comparison theorems for RBSDEs with jumps in the case of a RCLL adapted obstacle. We then show that the value function of the optimal stopping problem is characterized as the solution of an RBSDE. The existence of an optimal stopping time is obtained when the obstacle is left-upper semi-continuous along stopping times. Finally, robust optimal stopping problems related to the case with model ambiguity are investigated.

Optimal multiple stopping time problem

We study the optimal multiple stopping time problem defined for each stopping time $S$ by $v(S)=\operatorname {ess}\sup_{τ_1,...,τ_d\geq S}E[ψ(τ_1,...,τ_d)|\mathcal{F}_S]$. The key point is the construction of a new reward $ϕ$ such that the value function $v(S)$ also satisfies $v(S)=\operatorname {ess}\sup_{θ\geq S}E[ϕ(θ)|\mathcal{F}_S]$. This new reward $ϕ$ is not a right-continuous adapted process as in the classical case, but a family of random variables. For such a reward, we prove a new existence result for optimal stopping times under weaker assumptions than in the classical case. This result is used to prove the existence of optimal multiple stopping times for $v(S)$ by a constructive method. Moreover, under strong regularity assumptions on $ψ$, we show that the new reward $ϕ$ can be aggregated by a progressive process. This leads to new applications, particularly in finance (applications to American options with multiple exercise times).

Utility maximization in incomplete markets with default

We adress the maximization problem of expected utility from terminal wealth. The special feature of this paper is that we consider a financial market where the price process of risky assets can have a default time. Using dynamic programming, we characterize the value function with a backward stochastic differential equation and the optimal portfolio policies. We separately treat the cases of exponential, power and logarithmic utility.
