Symplectic tomographic probability distribution of crystallized Schrödinger cat states

Within the framework of the probability representation of quantum mechanics, we study a superposition of generic Gaussian states associated to symmetries of a regular polygon of n sides; in other words, the cyclic groups (containing the rotational symmetries) and dihedral groups (containing the rotational and inversion symmetries). We obtain the Wigner functions and tomographic probability distributions (symplectic and optical tomograms) determining the density matrices of the states explicitly as the sums of Gaussian terms. The obtained Wigner functions demonstrate nonclassical behavior, i.e., contain negative values, while the tomograms show a series of maxima and minima different for each state, where the number of the critical points reflects the order of the group defining the states. We discuss general properties of such a generalization of normal probability distributions.

Differential Parametric Formalism for the Evolution of Gaussian States: Nonunitary Evolution and Invariant States

In a differential approach elaborated, we study the evolution of the parameters of Gaussian, mixed, continuous variable density matrices, whose dynamics are given by Hermitian Hamiltonians expressed as quadratic forms of the position and momentum operators or quadrature components. Specifically, we obtain in generic form the differential equations for the covariance matrix, the mean values, and the density matrix parameters of a multipartite Gaussian state, unitarily evolving according to a Hamiltonian $\hat{H}$. We also present the corresponding differential equations which describe the nonunitary evolution of the subsystems. The resulting nonlinear equations are used to solve the dynamics of the system instead of the Schrödinger equation. The formalism elaborated allows us to define new specific invariant and quasi-invariant states, as well as states with invariant covariance matrices, i.e., states were only the mean values evolve according to the classical Hamilton equations. By using density matrices in the position and in the tomographic-probability representations, we study examples of these properties. As examples, we present novel invariant states for the two-mode frequency converter and quasi-invariant states for the bipartite parametric amplifier.

Evolution and entanglement of Gaussian states in the parametric amplifier

The linear time-dependent constants of motion of the parametric amplifier are obtained and used to determine in the tomographic-probability representation the evolution of a general two-mode Gaussian state. By means of the discretization of the continuous variable density matrix, the von Neumann and linear entropies are calculated to measure the entanglement properties between the modes of the amplifier. The obtained results for the nonlocal correlations are compared with those associated to a linear map of discretized symplectic Gaussian-state tomogram onto a qubit tomogram. This qubit portrait procedure is used to establish Bell-type's inequalities, which provide a necessary condition to determine the separability of quantum states, which can be evaluated through homodyne detection. Other no-signaling nonlocal correlations are defined through the portrait procedure for noncomposite systems.

Light-pressure experiments by P. N. Lebedev and modern problems of optomechanics and quantum optics

In connection with the 150-th Anniversary of P. N. Lebedev, we present historical aspects of his scientific and organizing activity and recall his famous experimental observations and proof of the existence of light pressure along with other results that essentially influenced the development of physics in Russia and in the whole world as well. We discuss the relationship of these studies of electromagnetic waves and other kinds of vibrational phenomena investigated by P. N. Lebedev to modern studies of the interaction of photons with mirrors, gravitational waves, acoustic waves, nonstationary (dynamical) Casimir effect of photon creation in resonators with vibrating boundaries, and vibrations of voltage and current in superconducting circuits realizing the states of qubits and qudits. We discuss the possibility of existence of the nonstationary Casimir effect for gravitational waves and sound in liquid helium.

Hidden Quantum Correlations in Single Qudit Systems

We introduce the notion of hidden quantum correlations. We present the mean values of observables depending on one classical random variable described by the probability distribution in the form of correlation functions of two (three, etc.) random variables described by the corresponding joint probability distributions. We develop analogous constructions for the density matrices of quantum states and quantum observables. We consider examples of four-dimensional Hilbert space corresponding to the "quantum roulette" and "quantum compass."

Balance equations-based properties of the Rabi Hamiltonian

A stationary physical system satisfies peculiar balance conditions involving mean values of appropriate observables. In this paper we show how to deduce such quantitative links, named balance equations, demonstrating as well their usefulness in bringing to light physical properties of the system without solving the Schrodinger equation. The knowledge of such properties in the case of Rabi Hamiltonian is exploit to provide arguments to make easier the variational engineering of the ground state of this model.

Entanglement and other quantum correlations of a single qudit state as a resource for quantum technologies

The approach to extend the notion of entanglement for characterizing the properties of quantum correlations in the state of a single qudit is presented. New information and entropic inequalities, such as the subadditivity condition, strong subadditivity condition, and monotonicity of relative entropy for a single qudit corresponding to an arbitrary spin state with spin j are discussed. The idea to employ quantum correlations in the single-qudit state, such as the entanglement, for developing a new quantum technique in quantum computing and quantum communication is proposed. Examples of qutrit and qudit with j = 3/2 are considered.

Entropy-energy inequalities for qudit states

We establish a procedure to find the extremal density matrices for any finite Hamiltonian of a qudit system. These extremal density matrices provide an approximate description of the energy spectra of the Hamiltonian. In the case of restricting the extremal density matrices by pure states, we show that the energy spectra of the Hamiltonian is recovered for $d=2$ and $3$. We conjecture that by means of this approach the energy spectra can be recovered for the Hamiltonian of an arbitrary finite qudit system. For a given qudit system Hamiltonian, we find new inequalities connecting the mean value of the Hamiltonian and the entropy of an arbitrary state. We demonstrate that these inequalities take place for both the considered extremal density matrices and generic ones.

The maps of matrices and portrait maps of density operators of composite and noncomposite systems

We obtain a new inequality for arbitrary Hermitian matrices. We describe particular linear maps called the matrix portrait of arbitrary NxN matrices. The maps are obtained as analogs of partial tracing of density matrices of multipartite qudit systems. The structure of the maps is inspired by "portrait" map of the probability vectors corresponding to the action on the vectors by stochastic matrices containing either unity or zero matrix elements. We obtain new entropic inequalities for arbitrary qudit states including a single qudit and an discuss entangled single qudit state. We consider in detail the examples of N=3 and 4. Also we point out a possible use of entangled states of systems without subsystems (e.g., a single qudit) as a resource for quantum computations.

Wigner function and the probability representation of quantum states

The relation of the Wigner function with the fair probability distribution called tomographic distribution or quantum tomogram associated with the quantum state is reviewed. The connection of the tomographic picture of quantum mechanics with the integral Radon transform of the Wigner quasidistribution is discussed. The Wigner--Moyal equation for the Wigner function is presented in the form of kinetic equation for the tomographic probability distribution both in quantum mechanics and in the classical limit of the Liouville equation. The calculation of moments of physical observables in terms of integrals with the state tomographic probability distributions is constructed having a standard form of averaging in the probability theory. New uncertainty relations for the position and momentum are written in terms of optical tomograms suitable for direct experimental check. Some recent experiments on checking the uncertainty relations including the entropic uncertainty relations are discussed.

Inequalities for nonnegative numbers and information properties

We discuss some inequalities for N nonnegative numbers. We use these inequalities to obtain known inequalities for probability distributions and new entropic and information inequalities for quantum tomograms of qudit states. The inequalities characterize the degree of quantum correlations in addition to noncontextuality and quantum discord. We use the subadditivity and strong subadditivity conditions for qudit tomographic-probability distributions depending on the unitary-group parameters in order to derive new inequalities for Shannon, Renyi, and Tsallis entropies of spin states.

Tomographic entropic inequalities in the probability representation of quantum mechanics

A review of the tomographic-probability representation of classical and quantum states is presented. The tomographic entropies and entropic uncertainty relations are discussed in connection with ambiguities in the interpretation of the state tomograms which are considered either as a set of the probability distributions of random variables depending on extra parameters or as a single joint probability distribution of these random variables and random parameters with specific properties of the marginals. Examples of optical tomograms of photon states, symplectic tomograms, and unitary spin tomograms of qudits are given. A new universal integral inequality for generic wave function is obtained on the base of tomographic entropic uncertainty relations.

Dynamic Symmetries and Entropic Inequalities in the Probability Representation of Quantum Mechanics

The probability representation of quantum and classical statistical mechanics is discussed. Symplectic tomography, center-of-mass tomography, and spin tomography are studied. The connection of tomographic probabilities with dynamic symmetries like symplectic group is considered. Entropic uncertainty relations and inequalities for spin tomograms are reviewed.
