Blind spots for neutralino dark matter in the NMSSM

Spin-independent cross-section for neutralino dark matter scattering off nuclei is investigated in the NMSSM. Several classes of blind spots for direct detection of singlino-Higgsino dark matter are analytically identified, including such that have no analog in the MSSM. It is shown that mixing of the Higgs doublets with the scalar singlet has a big impact on the position of blind spots in the parameter space. In particular, this mixing allows for more freedom in the sign assignment for the parameters entering the neutralino mass matrix, required for a blind spot to occur, as compared to the MSSM or the NMSSM with decoupled singlet. Moreover, blind spots may occur for any composition of a singlino-Higgsino LSP. Particular attention is paid to cases with the singlet-dominated scalar lighter than the 125 GeV Higgs for which a vanishing tree-level spin-independent scattering cross-section may result from destructive interference between the Higgs and the singlet-dominated scalar exchange. Correlations of the spin-independent scattering cross-section with the Higgs observables are also discussed.

Interpreting 750 GeV Diphoton Excess in Plain NMSSM

NMSSM has enough ingredients to explain the diphoton excess at 750 GeV: singlet-like (pseudo) scalar ($a$) $s$ and higgsinos as heavy vector-like fermions. We consider the production of the 750 GeV singlet-like pseudo scalar a from a decay of the doublet-like pseudo scalar $A$, and the subsequent decay of $a$ into two photons via higgsino loop. We demonstrate that this cascade decay of the NMSSM Higgs bosons can explain the diphoton excess in the 13 TeV data consistently with the absence of a significant excess in the 8 TeV data.

Detecting underabundant neutralinos

The electroweak sector may play a crucial role in discovering supersymmetry. We systematically investigate the patterns of the MSSM-like electroweakinos, when the neutralino relic abundance $Ω_χh^2\leq 0.12$, that is, also admitting for multi-component Dark Matter, in a broad range of the parameter space. We find that for a very large range of parameters the Direct Detection experiments are/will be sensitive to underabundant neutralinos, in spite of the strong rescaling of the flux factor. The second general conclusion is that the bound $Ω_χh^2\leq 0.12$ together with the LUX (XENON1T) limits for the neutralino spin independent scattering cross sections constrain the electroweakino spectrum so that the mass differences between the NLSP and the LSP are smaller than 40 (10) GeV, respectively, with important implications for the collider searches. The future Direct Detection experiments and the high luminosity LHC run will probe almost the entire range of the LSP and NLSP mass spectrum that is consistent with the bound $Ω_χh^2\leq 0.12$.

Upper bounds on sparticle masses from muon g-2 and the Higgs mass and the complementarity of future colliders

Supersymmetric (SUSY) explanation of the discrepancy between the measurement of $(g-2)_μ$ and its SM prediction puts strong upper bounds on the chargino and smuon masses. At the same time, lower experimental limits on the chargino and smuon masses, combined with the Higgs mass measurement, lead to an upper bound on the stop masses. The current LHC limits on the chargino and smuon masses (for not too compressed spectrum) set the upper bound on the stop masses of about 10 TeV. The discovery potential of the future lepton and hadron colliders should lead to the discovery of SUSY if it is responsible for the explanation of the $(g-2)_μ$ anomaly. This conclusion follows from the fact that the upper bound on the stop masses decreases with the increase of the lower experimental limit on the chargino and smuon masses.

Experimental signatures of a light singlet-like scalar in NMSSM

NMSSM with a light singlet-like scalar and strongly suppressed couplings to $b$ and $τ$ is investigated. It is shown that in such a scenario the singlet-like scalar to diphoton signal can be larger than for the SM Higgs for a wide range of masses between 60 and 110 GeV, in agreement with all the LEP and LHC data. Enhancement of the singlet-like scalar to diphoton signal is correlated with positive correction to the SM-like Higgs mass from mixing between SM-like Higgs and the singlet. It is also shown that the couplings to $b$ and $τ$ and, in consequence, branching ratios of the SM-like Higgs are anti-correlated with those of the singlet-like scalar. If the singlet-like scalar to diphoton signal is enhanced, the signal strengths of the 125 GeV Higgs in the diphoton and $WW^*/ZZ^*$ channels are predicted to be smaller than for the SM Higgs.

Light staus and enhanced Higgs diphoton rate with non-universal gaugino masses and SO(10) Yukawa unification

It is shown that substantially enhanced Higgs to diphoton rate induced by light staus with large left-right mixing in MSSM requires at the GUT scale non-universal gaugino masses with bino and/or wino lighter than gluino. The possibility of such enhancement is investigated in MSSM models with arbitrary gaugino masses at the GUT scale with additional restriction of top-bottom-tau Yukawa unification, as predicted by minimal SO(10) GUTs. Many patterns of gaugino masses leading to enhanced Higgs to diphoton rate and the Yukawa unification are identified. Some of these patterns can be accommodated in a well-motivated scenarios such as mirage mediation or SUSY breaking F-terms being a non-singlet of SO(10). Phenomenological implications of a scenario with non-universal gaugino masses generated by a mixture of the singlet F-term and the F-term in a 24-dimensional representation of SU(5) $\subset$ SO(10) are studied in detail. Possible non-universalities of other soft terms generated by such F-terms are discussed. The enhancement of Higgs to diphoton rate up to 30% can be obtained in agreement with all phenomenological constraints, including vacuum metastability bounds. The lightest sbottom and pseudoscalar Higgs are within easy reach of the 14 TeV LHC. The LSP can be either bino-like or wino-like. The thermal relic abundance in the former case may be in agreement with the cosmological data thanks to efficient stau coannihilation.

New Regions in the NMSSM with a 125 GeV Higgs

It is pointed out that mixing effects in the CP-even scalar sector of the NMSSM can give 6-8 GeV correction to the SM-like Higgs mass in moderate or large $\tanβ$ regions with a small value of the singlet-higgs-higgs superfields coupling $λ\sim\mathcal{O}(0.1)$. This effect comes mainly from the mixing of the SM-like Higgs with lighter singlet. In the same parameter range, the mixing of the heavy doublet Higgs with the singlet may strongly modify the couplings of the singlet-like and the 125 GeV scalars. Firstly, the LEP bounds on a light singlet can be evaded for a large range of its masses. Secondly, the decay rates of both scalars can show a variety of interesting patterns, depending on the lightest scalar mass. In particular, a striking signature of this mechanism can be a light scalar with strongly suppressed (enhanced) branching ratios to $b\bar{b}$ ($gg$, $c\bar{c}$, $γγ$) as compared to the SM Higgs with the same mass. The $γγ$ decay channel is particularly promising for the search of such a scalar at the LHC. The 125 GeV scalar can, thus, be accommodated with substantially smaller than in the MSSM radiative corrections from the stop loops (and consequently, with lighter stops) also for moderate or large $\tanβ$, with the mixing effects replacing the standard NMSSM mechanism of increasing the tree level Higgs mass in the low $\tanβ$ and large $λ$ regime, and with clear experimental signatures of such a mechanism.

Inverted sfermion mass hierarchy and the Higgs boson mass in the MSSM

It is shown that MSSM with first two generations of squarks and sleptons much heavier than the third one naturally predicts the maximal stop mixing as a consequence of the RG evolution, with vanishing (or small) trilinear coupling at the high scale. The Higgs boson is generically heavy, in the vicinity of 125 GeV. In this inverted hierarchy scenario, motivated by the supersymmetric FCNC problem and models for fermion masses based on horizontal symmetries, the mass of the lightest stop is O(0.5) TeV and of gluino - O(2-3) TeV. The LSP can be either higgsino or bino or a mixture of both and it can be a good dark matter candidate.

Yukawa unification in SO(10) with light sparticle spectrum

We investigate supersymmetric SO(10) GUT model with μ<0. The requirements of top-bottom-tau Yukawa unification, correct radiative electroweak symmetry breaking and agreement with the present experimental data may be met when the soft masses of scalars and gauginos are non-universal. We show how appropriate non-universalities can easily be obtained in the SO(10) GUT broken to the Standard Model. We discuss how values of BR(b-->s γ) and (g-2)_μsimultaneously in a good agreement with the experimental data can be achieved in SO(10) model with μ<0. In the region of the parameter space preferred by our analysis there are two main mechanisms leading to the LSP relic abundance consistent with the WMAP results. One is the co-annihilation with the stau and the second is the resonant annihilation via exchange of the Z boson or the light Higgs scalar. A very interesting feature of SO(10) models with negative μis that they predict relatively light sparticle spectra. Even the heaviest superpartners may easily have masses below 1.5 TeV in contrast to multi-TeV particles typical for models with positive μ.

Higher order dilaton gravity: brane equations of motion in the covariant formulation

Dilaton gravity with general brane localized interactions is investigated. Models with corrections up to arbitrary order in field derivatives are considered. Effective gravitational equations of motion at the brane are derived in the covariant approach. Dependence of such brane equations on the bulk quantities is discussed. It is shown that the number of the bulk independent brane equations of motion depends strongly on the symmetries assumed for the model and for the background. Examples with two and four derivatives of the fields are presented in more detail.

Inflation with racetrack superpotential and matter field

Several models of inflation with the racetrack superpotential for the volume modulus coupled to a matter field are investigated. In particular, it is shown that two classes of racetrack inflation models, saddle point and inflection point ones, can be constructed in a fully supersymmetric framework with the matter field F-term as a source of supersymmetry breaking and uplifting. Two models of F-term supersymmetry breaking are considered: the Polonyi model and the quantum corrected O'Raifeartaigh model. In the former case, both classes of racetrack inflation models differ significantly from the corresponding models with non-supersymmetric uplifting. The main difference is a quite strong dominance of the inflaton by the matter field. In addition, fine-tuning of the parameters is relaxed as compared to the original racetrack models. In the case of the racetrack inflation models coupled to the O'Raifeartaigh model, the matter field is approximately decoupled from the inflationary dynamics. In all of the above models the gravitino mass is larger than the Hubble scale during inflation. The possibility of having the gravitino much lighter than the Hubble scale is also investigated. It is very hard to construct models with light gravitino in which the volume modulus dominates inflation. On the other hand, models in which the inflationary dynamics is dominated by the matter field are relatively simple and seem to be more natural.

Supersymmetric mass spectra for gravitino dark matter with a high reheating temperature

Supersymmetric theories with gravitino dark matter generally do not allow the high reheating temperature required by thermal leptogenesis without running afoul of relic abundance or big bang nucleosynthesis constraints. We report on a successful search for parameter space that does satisfy these requirements. The main implication is the near degeneracy of the gluino with the other neutralinos in the spectrum. The leading discovery channel at the LHC for this scenario is through monojet plus missing energy events.

Deconstructing 5D supersymmetric U(1) gauge theories on orbifolds

We investigate deconstruction of five dimensional supersymmetric abelian gauge theories compactified on $S_1/Z_2$, with various sets of bulk and matter multiplets. The problem of anomalies, chirality and stability in the deconstructed theories is discussed. We find that for most of the 5d brane/bulk matter assignments there exists the deconstructed version. There are, however, some exceptions.

Testing Gauge-Yukawa-Unified Models By $M_t$

Gauge-Yukawa Unification (GYU) relates the gauge and Yukawa couplings, thereby going beyond the usual GUTs, and it is assumed that the GYU in the third fermion generation implies that its Yukawa couplings are of the same order as the unified gauge coupling at the GUT scale. We re-examine carefully the recent observation that the top-bottom mass hierarchy can be explained to a certain extent in supersymmetric GYU models. It is found that there are equiv-top-mass-lines in the boundary conditions of the Yukawa couplings so that two different GYU models on the same line can not be distinguished by the top mass $M_t$ alone. If they are on different lines, they could be distinguished by $M_t$ in principle, provided that the predicted $M_t$'s are well below the infrared value $M_t$ (IR). We find that the ratio $M_t ({\rm IR})/\sinβ$ depends on $\tanβ$ for large $\tanβ$ and the lowest value of $M_t ({\rm IR})$ is $\sim 188$ GeV. We focus our attention on the existing $SU(5)$ GYU models which are obtained by requiring finiteness and reduction of couplings. They, respectively, predict $M_t= (183+δ^{\rm MSSM} M_t\pm 5)$ GeV and $(181+δ^{\rm MSSM} M_t\pm 3)$ GeV, where $δ^{\rm MSSM} M_t$ stands for the MSSM threshold correction and is $\sim -2$ GeV for the case that all the MSSM superpartners have the same mass $M_{\rm SUSY}$ with $μ_H/M_{\rm SUSY} <<1$.
