Bose-Einstein condensate dark matter model tested by galactic rotation curves

Rotation curves of spiral galaxies are fundamental tools in the study of dark matter. Here we test the Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) dark matter model against rotation curve data of High and Low Surface Brightness (HSB and LSB) galaxies, respectively. When the rotational velocities increase over the whole observed range, the fit of the BEC model is similar to the one of the Navarro-Frenk-White (NFW) dark matter model. When however the rotation curves exhibit long flat regions, the NFW profiles provide a slightly better fit.

Modified gravity theories and dark matter models tested by galactic rotation curves

Bose-Einstein condensate dark matter model and Randall-Sundrum type 2 brane-world theory are tested with galactic rotation curves. Analytical expressions are derived for the rotational velocities of test particles around the galactic center in both cases. The velocity profiles are fitted to the observed rotation curve data of high surface brightness and low surface brightness galaxies. The brane-world model fits better the rotation curves with asymptotically flat behaviour.

Second-order light deflection by tidal charged black holes on the brane

We derive the deflection angle of light rays passing near a black hole with mass m and tidal charge q, confined to a generalized Randall-Sundrum brane with codimension one. We employ the weak lensing approach, up to the second order in perturbation theory by two distinct methods. First we adopt a Lagrangian approach and derive the deflection angle from the analysis of the geodesic equations. Then we adopt a Hamiltonian approach and we recover the same result from the analysis of the eikonal. With this we re-establish the unicity of the result as given by the two methods. Our results in turn implies a more rigurous constraint on the tidal charge from Solar System measurements, then derived before.
