A Twisted ${\mathcal C}^{\star}$-algebra formulation of Quantum Cosmology with application to the Bianchi I model

A twisted ${\mathcal C}^\star $- algebra of the extended (noncommutative) Heisenberg-Weyl group has been constructed which takes into account the Uncertainty Principle for coordinates in the Planck length regime. This general construction is then used to generate an appropriate Hilbert space and observables for the noncommutative theory which, when applied to the Bianchi I Cosmology, leads to a new set of equations that describe the quantum evolution of the universe. We find that this formulation matches theories based on a reticular Heisenberg-Weyl algebra in the bouncing and expanding regions of a collapsing Bianchi universe. There is, however, an additional effect introduced by the dynamics generated by the noncommutativity. This is an oscillation in the spectrum of the volume operator of the universe, within the bouncing region of the commutative theories. We show that this effect is generic and produced by the noncommutative momentum exchange between the degrees of freedom in the cosmology. We give asymptotic and numerical solutions which show the above mentioned effects of the noncommutativity.

On deformed quantum mechanical schemes and $\star$-value equations based on the space-space noncommutative Heisenberg-Weyl group

We investigate the Weyl-Wigner-Gröenewold-Moyal, the Stratonovich and the Berezin group quantization schemes for the space-space noncommutative Heisenberg-Weyl group. We show that the $\star$-product for the deformed algebra of Weyl functions for the first scheme is different than that for the other two, even though their respective quantum mechanics' are equivalent as far as expectation values are concerned, provided that some additional criteria are imposed on the implementation of this process. We also show that it is the $\star$-product associated with the Stratonovich and the Berezin formalisms that correctly gives the Weyl symbol of a product of operators in terms of the deformed product of their corresponding Weyl symbols. To conclude, we derive the stronger $\star$-valued equations for the 3 quantization schemes considered and discuss the criteria that are also needed for them to exist.

Variational Approach to Gaussian Approximate Coherent States: Quantum Mechanics and Minisuperspace Field Theory

This paper has a dual purpose. One aim is to study the evolution of coherent states in ordinary quantum mechanics. This is done by means of a Hamiltonian approach to the evolution of the parameters that define the state. The stability of the solutions is studied. The second aim is to apply these techniques to the study of the stability of minisuperspace solutions in field theory. For a $λφ^4$ theory we show, both by means of perturbation theory and rigorously by means of theorems of the K.A.M. type, that the homogeneous minisuperspace sector is indeed stable for positive values of the parameters that define the field theory.

A Nonlinear Model of a Quantum Minisuperspace System with Back Reaction

We consider the quantum evolution of the space-independent mode of a $λϕ^4$ theory as a minisuperspace in the space of all $ϕ$. The motion of the wave packet in the minisuperspace is then compared to the motion of a wave packet in a larger minisuperspace consisting of the original minisuperspace plus one space-dependent mode. By comparing the motion of the two packets we develop criteria that tell us when the quantum evolution in the space-independent minisuperspace gives us useful information about the true evolution in the larger minisuperspace. These criteria serve as a toy model for similar(but much more complex) criteria that will tell us whether or when quantized gravitational minisuperspaces can possibly give any useful information about quantum gravity.
