Hidden Photons in Aharonov-Bohm-Type Experiments

We discuss the Aharonov-Bohm effect in the presence of hidden photons kinetically mixed with the ordinary electromagnetic photons. The hidden photon field causes a slight phase shift in the observable interference pattern. It is then shown how the limited sensitivity of this experiment can be largely improved. The key observation is that the hidden photon field causes a leakage of the ordinary magnetic field into the supposedly field-free region. The direct measurement of this magnetic field can provide a sensitive experiment with a good discovery potential, particularly below the $\sim$ meV mass range for hidden photons.

Non-renormalizable Operators for Solar Mass Generation in Split SuSy with Bilinear R-parity Violation

The Minimal Supersymmetric Extension of the Standard Model (MSSM) is able to explain the current data from neutrino physics. Unfortunately Split Supersymmetry as low energy approximation of this theory fails to generate a solar square mass difference, including after the addition of bilinear R-Parity Violation. In this work, it is shown how one can derive an effective low energy theory from the MSSM in the spirit of Split Supersymmetry, which has the potential of explaining the neutrino phenomenology. This is achieved by going beyond leading order in the process of integrating out heavy scalars from the original theory, which results in non-renormalizable operators in the effective low energy theory. It is found that in particular a $d=8$ operator is crucial for the generation of the neutrino mass differences.

Implications of Bilinear R-Parity Violation on Neutrinos and Lightest Neutralino Decay in Split Supersymmetry

We discuss neutrino parameters in addition with the effects of a Higgs boson of mass $\sim$ 125 GeV in Split Supersymmetry with Bilinear R-Parity Violation. This model allows for the explanation of neutrino masses and mixing angles, and has the gravitino as Dark Matter candidate. We find constraints on the parameters in the neutrino sector of the model by performing a numerical study of the parameter space, and by fitting neutrino oscillation observables and the Higgs mass. In addition, we study in detail the decay of the lightest neutralino in this model and we realize the importance of the exact neutralino/chargino spectrum in the computation of its branching ratios.

Proceedings of the first workshop on Flavor Symmetries and consequences in Accelerators and Cosmology (FLASY2011)

The main goals of the first "Workshop on FLAvor SYmmetries and consequences in accelerators and cosmology" (FLASY) was to summarize the theoretical status of flavor symmetries, bringing together young researchers in the field to stimulate discussions and new collaborations, with the aim of investigating possible new physics scenarios to be tested at the LHC, as well as in future neutrino, cosmology experiments and dark matter searches.

Gravitino Dark Matter and Neutrino Masses in Partial Split Supersymmetry

Partial Split Supersymmetry with bilinear R-parity violation allows to reproduce all neutrino mass and mixing parameters. The viable dark matter candidate in this model is the gravitino. We study the hypothesis that both possibilities are true: Partial Split Supersymmetry explains neutrino physics and that dark matter is actually composed of gravitinos. Since the gravitino has a small but non-zero decay probability, its decay products could be observed in astrophysical experiments. Combining bounds from astrophysical photon spectra with the bounds coming from the mass matrix in the neutrino sector we derive a stringent upper limit for the allowed gravitino mass. This mass limit is in good agreement with the results of direct dark matter searches.

Non-diagonal Charged Lepton Yukawa Matrix: Effects on Neutrino Mixing in Supersymmetry

Generally the diagonalization of the mass matrix of the charged leptons is a part of the neutrino UPMNS matrix. However, usually this contribution is ignored by assuming a diagonal mass matrix for charged leptons. In this letter we test this common assumption in the context of neutrino physics. Our analytical and numerical results for two supersymmetric models reveal that such a simplification is not justified. Especially for the solar and reactor mixing angles important modifications are found.

Explaining Solar Neutrinos with Heavy Higgs Masses in Partial Split Supersymmetry

Partial Split Supersymmetry with violation of R-parity as a model for neutrino masses is explored. It is shown that at the one-loop level the model can give predictions that are in agreement with all present experimental values for the neutrino sector. An analytical result is that the small solar neutrino mass difference can be naturally explained in the decoupling limit for the heavy Higgs mass eigenstates.

Gravity Effects on Neutrino Masses in Split Supersymmetry

The mass differences and mixing angles of neutrinos can neither be explained by R-Parity violating split supersymmetry nor by flavor blind quantum gravity alone. It is shown that combining both effects leads, within the allowed parameter range, to good agreement with the experimental results. The atmospheric mass is generated by supersymmetry through mixing between neutrinos and neutralinos, while the solar mass is generated by gravity through flavor blind dimension five operators. Maximal atmospheric mixing forces the tangent squared of the solar angle to be equal to 1/2. The scale of the quantum gravity operator is predicted within a 5% error, implying that the reduced Planck scale should lie around the GUT scale. In this way, the model is very predictive and can be tested at future experiments.

Radiative Neutralino Decay in Split Supersymmetry

Radiative neutralino decay $χ^0_2 -> χ^0_1γ$ is studied in a Split Supersymmetric scenario, and compared with mSUGRA and MSSM. This 1-loop process has a transition amplitude which is often quite small, but has the advantage of providing a very clear and distinct signature: electromagnetic radiation plus missing energy. In Split Supersymmetry this radiative decay is in direct competition with the tree-level three-body decay $χ^0_2 -> χ^0_1 f\overline f$, and we obtain large values for the branching ratio $B(χ^0_2 -> χ^0_1γ)$ which can be close to unity in the region $M_2 \sim M_1$. Furthermore, the value for the radiative neutralino decay branching ratio has a strong dependence on the split supersymmetric scale $\widetilde{m}$, which is otherwise very difficult to infer from experimental observables.

Gauge and Yukawa Unification in SUSY with Bilinearly Broken R-Parity

In a supersymmetric model where R-Parity and lepton number are violated bilinearly in the superpotential, which can explain the solar and atmospheric neutrino problems, we study the unification of gauge and Yukawa couplings at the GUT scale. We show that bottom-tau Yukawa coupling unification can be achieved at any value of $\tanβ$, and that the strong coupling constant prediction from unification of gauge couplings is closer to the experimental value compared with the MSSM. We also study the predictions for $V_{cb}$ in a Yukawa texture ansätze.

Closing the Light Gluino Window in Supersymmetric Grand Unified Models

We study the light gluino scenario giving special attention to constraints from the masses of the light CP-even neutral Higgs $m_h$, the lightest chargino $m_{χ^{\pm}_1}$, and the second lightest neutralino $m_{χ^0_2}$, and from the $b\rightarrow sγ$ decay. We find that minimal $N=1$ supergravity, with a radiatively broken electroweak symmetry group and universality of scalar and gaugino masses at the unification scale, is incompatible with the existence of a light gluino.
