Comparison of $t\bar{t}W$ theory predictions in the $3\ell$ channel

We report on our recent comparison of various theoretical approaches to predict fiducial signatures for $pp\to t\bar{t}W$ in the $3\ell$ decay channel at $\mathcal{O}(α_s^3α^6)$ and $\mathcal{O}(α_sα^8)$. The comparison includes fixed-order predictions including full off-shell effects as well as predictions based only on the double-resonant contributions by employing the Narrow-Width-Approximation. Furthermore, we include parton-shower matched predictions using the MG5 and POWHEG-BOX frameworks.

Full off-shell NLO QCD predictions for $t\bar{t}b\bar{b}$ at the LHC

We report on state-of-the-art theoretical predictions for $pp\to t\bar{t}b\bar{b}$ including full off-shell effects in the di-lepton decay channel at NLO QCD accuracy. We briefly discuss the impact of NLO QCD corrections on differential distributions and also asses theoretical uncertainties from scale and PDF dependence. Furthermore, we propose a simple kinematic reconstruction in order to distinguish $b$ jets originating from top-quark decays from arising from gluon splittings.

Hadroproduction of four top quarks in the POWHEG BOX

We present a new Monte Carlo event generator for the hadronic production of four top quarks in the POWHEG BOX framework. Besides the dominant next-to-leading order QCD corrections at $\mathcal{O}(α_s^5)$ we also include all subleading electroweak productions channels at leading-order accuracy. We validate our theoretical predictions by comparing to parton-shower matched predictions obtained within the MC@NLO framework for stable top quarks. Furthermore, we investigate in detail the various sources of theoretical uncertainties. Finally, we investigate a single lepton plus jets signature to study for the first time the impact of the electroweak production modes as well as spin-correlation effects at the fiducial level.

NLO QCD corrections to full off-shell production of $t\bar{t}Z$ including leptonic decays

Motivated by ongoing new physics searches in the top-quark sector at the Large Hadron Collider we report on the calculation of NLO QCD corrections to the Standard Model $pp\to t\bar{t}Z+X$ process in the tetra-lepton decay channel. This calculation is based on the matrix elements for the $e^+ ν_e\, μ^-\barν_μ\, b\bar{b} \,τ^+τ^-$ final state and includes all resonant and non-resonant Feynman diagrams, interferences and off-shell effects of the top quark as well as the $W$ and $Z$ gauge bosons. Also incorporated are photon-induced contributions. As it is customary for such studies, we show theoretical predictions for both fixed and dynamical factorisation and renormalisation scale choices and different PDF sets. Furthermore, we study the main theoretical uncertainties that are associated with neglected higher-order terms in the perturbative expansion and with the parameterisation of the PDF sets. In order to investigate the size of off-shell effects and higher-order corrections in top-quark decays, we perform a second computation for this process, which is based on the narrow-width-approximation where the top quarks, $W$ and $Z$ gauge bosons are kept on-shell. Results are given for the integrated and differential fiducial cross sections for the LHC Run II center-of-mass energy of $13$ TeV.

off-shell $t\bar{t}b\bar{b}$ in the di-lepton channel

We report on our recent calculation for the off-shell $t\bar{t}b\bar{b}$ process in the di-lepton decay channel at the LHC. Our results take into account NLO QCD corrections for the complete $pp\to e^+ν_eμ^- \barν_μb\bar{b}b\bar{b}$ process, and include all double, single and non-resonant contributions. We investigate the size of the corrections and their associated theoretical uncertainties. We also briefly comment on the impact of different $b$ jet definitions on our results.

The simplest of them all: $t\bar{t} W^\pm$ at NLO accuracy in QCD

Recent measurements of the $pp\to t\bar{t}W^\pm$ process in multi-lepton final states, as performed by the ATLAS collaboration in the context of the Higgs boson studies in the $t\bar{t}H$ channel, have shown discrepancies between theoretical predictions and experimental data. Such discrepancies have been observed both in the overall normalisation as well as in the modelling of the $t\bar{t}W^\pm$ process. With the goal of understanding and resolving the modelling issues within the SM $t\bar{t}W^\pm$ process we report on the state-of-the-art NLO QCD computation for this process. Specifically, we calculate higher-order corrections to the $e^+ ν_e \,μ^-\barν_μ\, e^+ ν_e \, b\bar{b}$ and $e^- \barν_e \, μ^+ ν_μ\, e^- \barν_e \, b\bar{b}$ final state at the LHC with $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV. In the computation off-shell top quarks are described by Breit-Wigner propagators, furthermore, double-, single- as well as non-resonant top-quark contributions along with all interference effects are consistently incorporated at the matrix element level. Results at NLO QCD accuracy are presented in the form of fiducial integrated and differential cross sections for two selected renormalisation and factorisation scale choices and three different PDF sets. The impact of the top quark off-shell effects on the $t\bar{t}W^\pm$ cross section is also examined by an explicit comparison to the narrow-width approximation.

NLO calculations matched with the Nagy-Soper parton shower

An MC@NLO-like matching of NLO QCD calculations with the Nagy-Soper parton shower is briefly summarised. Uncertainties and ambiguities of the matching scheme are shortly discussed. A few results for the pp -> ttj + X production process at the LHC with sqrt(s) = 8 TeV are also shown. All results have been obtained using the Nagy-Soper parton shower implementation in the DEDUCTOR program together with the HELAC-NLO framework.

NLO QCD off-shell effects for top pair production with a jet in the dilepton channel

A short summary of a NLO QCD calculation for the top-quark pair production with a jet in the dilepton decay channel is presented. The calculation takes into account all double, single, non-resonant and interference contributions. Thus, NLO QCD corrections are computed for the process pp -> e+ ve mu- vm~ b b~ j + X. This calculation provides the first complete description, which overcomes the narrow width approximation for ttj process in the dilepton decay channel. Results for the total cross section and differential distributions for the LHC at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV are shown.
