Spin-Flavor SU(6) Symmetry for Baryon-Baryon Interactions

Short-range parts of the baryon-baryon ($BB$) interactions are analyzed from the spin-flavor $SU(6)_{sf}\supset SU(3)_f \times SU(2)_s$ symmetry viewpoint. Due to the Pauli principle of quarks, the symmetry structure of the wave functions is restricted at short distances. Consequently, the $BB$ states with the same spin-flavor quantum numbers may be reduced into one or a few spin-flavor states. Such reduction causes repulsion and/or suppression of transitions at short distances. We show that the observed suppression of the $ΞN \to ΛΛ$ conversion can be explained following the above argument. It is also applied to the suppression of the $ΣN$ to $ΛN$ conversion in the spin 1 and isospin 1/2 channel. Furthermore, the effects of the color-magnetic interaction (CMI), which prefers flavor antisymmetric states, to the Pauli-allowed states are discussed.

Doubly heavy tetraquarks in a chiral-diquark picture

Energy spectrum of doubly heavy tetraquarks, $T_{QQ}$ ($QQ \bar{q} \bar{q}$ with $Q = c, b$ and $q = u, d, s$), is studied in the potential chiral-diquark model. Using the chiral effective theory of diquarks and the quark-diquark-based potential model, the $T_{bb}$, $T_{cc}$, and $T_{cb}$ tetraquarks are described as a three-body system composed of two heavy quarks and an antidiquark. We find several $T_{bb}$ bound states, while no $T_{cc}$ and $T_{cb}$ (deep) bound state is seen. We also study the change of the $T_{QQ}$ tetraquark masses under restoration of chiral symmetry.

Novel coupled channel framework connecting quark model and lattice QCD: an investigation on near-threshold $D_s$ states

A novel framework is proposed to extract near-threshold resonant states from finite-volume energy levels of lattice QCD and is applied to elucidate structures of the positive parity $D_s$. The quark model, the quark-pair-creation mechanism and $D^{(*)}K$ interaction are incorporated into the Hamiltonian effective field theory. The bare $1^+$ $c\bar s$ states are almost purely given by the states with heavy-quark spin bases. The physical $D^*_{s0}(2317)$ and $D^*_{s1}(2460)$ are the mixtures of bare $c\bar s$ core and $D^{(*)}K$ component, while the $D^*_{s1}(2536)$ and $D^*_{s2}(2573)$ are almost dominated by bare $c\bar{s}$. Furthermore, our model reproduces the clear level crossing of the $D^*_{s1}(2536)$ with the scattering state at a finite volume.

The investigations of the $P$-wave $B_s$ states combining quark model and lattice QCD in the coupled channel framework

Combining the quark model, the quark-pair-creation mechanism and $B^{(*)}\bar K$ interaction, we have investigated the near-threshold $P$-wave $B_s$ states in the framework of the Hamiltonian effective field theory. With the heavy quark flavor symmetry, all the parameters are determined in the $D_s$ sector by fitting the lattice data. The masses of the bottom-strange partners of the $D^{*}_{s0}(2317)$ and $D^{*}_{s1}(2460)$ are predicted to be $M_{B^{*}_{s0}}=5730.2_{-1.5}^{+2.4}$ MeV and $M_{B^{*}_{s1}}= 5769.6_{-1.6}^{+2.4}$ MeV, respectively, which are well consistent with the lattice QCD simulation. The two $P$-wave $B_s$ states are the mixtures of the bare $\bar b s$ core and $B^{(*)}\bar K$ component. Moreover, we find a crossing point between the energy levels with and without the interaction Hamiltonian in the finite volume spectrum in the $0^+$ case, which corresponds to a CDD (Castillejo-Dalitz-Dyson) zero in the $T$-matrix of the $B\bar K$ scattering. This CDD zero will help deepen the insights of the near-threshold states and can be examined by future lattice calculation.

Chiral effective theory of diquarks and the U_A(1) anomaly

The diquark is a strongly correlated quark pair that plays an important role in hadrons and hadronic matter. In order to treat the diquak as a building block of hadrons, we formulate an effective theory of diquark fields with $SU(3)_R \times SU(3)_L$ chiral symmetry. We concentrate on the scalar ($0^+$) and pseudoscalar ($0^-$) diquarks and construct a linear-sigma-model Lagrangian. It is found that the effective Lagrangian contains a new type of chirally symmetric meson-diquark-diquark coupling that breaks axial $U_A(1)$ symmetry. We discuss consequences of the $U_A(1)$ anomaly term to the diquark masses as well as to the singly heavy baryon spectrum, which is directly related to the diquark spectrum. We find an inverse mass ordering between strange and nonstrange diquarks. The parameters of the effective theory can be determined by the help of lattice QCD calculations of diquarks and also from the mass spectrum of the singly heavy baryons. We determine the strength of the $U_A(1)$ anomaly term, which is found to give a significant portion of the diquark masses.

Signatures of the vortical quark-gluon plasma in hadron yields

We investigate the hadron production from the vortical quark-gluon plasma created in heavy-ion collisions. Based on the quark-coalescence and statistical hadronization models, we show that total hadron yields summed over the spin components are enhanced by the local vorticity with quadratic dependence. The enhancement factor amounts to be a few percent and may be detectable within current experimental sensitivities. We also show that the effect is stronger for hadrons with larger spin, and thus propose a new signature of the local vorticity, which may be detected by the yield ratio of distinct hadron species having different spins such as $ϕ$ and $η'$. The vorticity dependence of hadron yields seems robust, with consistent predictions in both of the hadron production mechanisms for reasonable values of the vorticity strength estimated for heavy-ion collisions.

Spectrum of singly heavy baryons from a chiral effective theory of diquarks

The mass spectra of singly charmed and bottom baryons, $Λ_{c/b}(1/2^\pm,3/2^-)$ and $Ξ_{c/b}(1/2^\pm,3/2^-)$, are investigated using a nonrelativistic potential model with a heavy quark and a light diquark. The masses of the scalar and pseudoscalar diquarks are taken from a chiral effective theory. The effect of $U_A(1)$ anomaly induces an inverse hierarchy between the masses of strange and non-strange pseudoscalar diquarks, which leads to a similar inverse mass ordering in $ρ$-mode excitations of singly heavy baryons.

A model of charmed baryon-nucleon potential and 2- and 3-body bound states with charmed baryon

A potential model for the interaction between a charmed baryon ($Λ_c$, $Σ_c$, and $Σ_c^*$) and the nucleon ($N$) is constructed. The model contains a long-range meson ($π$ and $σ$) exchange part and a short-distance quark exchange part. The quark cluster model is used to evaluate the short-range repulsion and a monopole type form factor is introduced to the long-range potential to reflect the extended structure of hadrons. We determine the cutoff parameters in the form factors by fitting the $NN$ scattering data with the same approach and we obtain four sets of parameters (a -- d). The most attractive potential (d) leads to bound $Λ_c N$ states with $J^π= 0^+$ and $1^+$ once the channel couplings among $Λ_c$, $Σ_c$ and $Σ_c^*$ are taken into account. One can also investigate many-body problems with the model. Here, we construct an effective $Λ_c N$ one-channel potential with the parameter set (d) and apply it to the 3-body $Λ_c NN$ system. The bound states with $J=1/2$ and $3/2$ are predicted.

D meson mass increase by restoration of chiral symmetry in nuclear matter

Spectral functions of the pseudoscalar $D$ meson in the nuclear medium are analyzed using QCD sum rules and the maximum entropy method. This approach enables us to extract the spectral functions without any phenomenological assumption, and thus to visualize in-medium modification of the spectral functions directly. It is found that the reduction of the chiral condensates of dimension 3 and 5 causes the masses of both $D^+$ and $D^-$ mesons to grow gradually at finite density. Additionally, we construct charge-conjugate-projected sum rules and find a $D^+$-$D^-$ mass splitting of about -15 MeV at nuclear saturation density.

D mesons in a magnetic field

We investigate the mass spectra of open heavy flavor mesons in an external constant magnetic field within QCD sum rules. Spectral ansätze on the phenomenological side are proposed in order to properly take into account mixing effects between the pseudoscalar and vector channels, and the Landau levels of charged mesons. The operator product expansion is implemented up to dimension-5 operators. As a result, we find for neutral D mesons a significant positive mass shift that goes beyond simple mixing effects. In contrast, charged D mesons are further subject to Landau level effects, which together with the mixing effects almost completely saturate the mass shifts obtained in our sum rule analysis.

Negative-parity nucleon excited state in nuclear matter

Spectral functions of the nucleon and its negative parity excited state in nuclear matter are studied using QCD sum rules and the maximum entropy method (MEM). It is found that in-medium modifications of the spectral functions are attributed mainly to density dependencies of the $\langle \bar{q}q \rangle $ and $\langle q^{\dagger}q \rangle $ condensates. The MEM reproduces the lowest-energy peaks of both the positive and negative parity nucleon states at finite density up to $ρ\sim ρ_N$ (normal nuclear matter density). As the density grows, the residue of the nucleon ground state decreases gradually while the residue of the lowest negative parity excited state increases slightly. On the other hand, the positions of the peaks, which correspond to the total energies of these states, are almost density independent for both parity states. The density dependencies of the effective masses and vector self-energies are also extracted by assuming the mean-field green functions for the peak states. We find that, as the density increases, the nucleon effective mass decreases while the vector self-energy increases. The density dependence of these quantities for the negative parity state on the other hand turns out to be relatively weak.

Testing the tetraquark structure for the $X$ resonances in low-lying region

Assuming four-quark structure for the $X$ resonances in low-lying region, we calculate their masses using the color-spin interaction. In specific, the hyperfine masses of the color-spin interaction are calculated for the possible states in spin-0, spin-1, spin-2 channels. The two states in spin-0 channel as well as the two states in spin-1 channel are diagonalized in order to generate the physical hyperfine masses. By matching the difference in hyperfine masses with the splitting in corresponding hadron masses and using the $X(3872)$ mass as an input, we estimate the masses corresponding to the states $J^{PC}=0^{++}, 1^{+-},2^{++}$. We find the masses of two states in $1^{+-}$ are close to those of $X(3823)$, $X(3900)$, and the mass of the $2^{++}$ state is close to that of $X(3940)$. For them, the discrepancies are about $\sim 10$ MeV. This may suggest that the quantum numbers of the controversial states are $X(3823)=1^{+-}, X(3900)=1^{+-}, X(3940)=2^{++}$. In this work, we use the same inputs parameters, the constituent quark masses and the strength of the color-spin interaction, that have been adopted in the previous work on the $D$ or $B$-meson excited states. There, it was shown that the four-quark structure can be manifested in their excited states. Thus, our results in this work provide a consistent treatment on open- and hidden-charm mesons as far as the four-quark model is concerned.

Understanding the nature of the heavy pentaquarks and searching for them in pion-induced reactions

We investigate the reaction $π^- p \to π^- J/ψp$ via the open-charm hadron rescattering diagrams. Due to the presence of the triangle singularity (TS) in the rescattering amplitudes, the TS peaks can simulate the pentaquark-like resonances arising in the $J/ψp$ invariant mass distributions, which may bring ambiguities on our understanding of the nature of the exotic states. Searching for the heavy pentaquark in different processes may help us to clarify the ambiguities, because of the highly process-dependent characteristic of the TS mechanism.

Resonances in QCD

We report on the EMMI Rapid Reaction Task Force meeting 'Resonances in QCD', which took place at GSI October 12-14, 2015. A group of 26 people met to discuss the physics of resonances in QCD. The aim of the meeting was defined by the following three key questions: What is needed to understand the physics of resonances in QCD? Where does QCD lead us to expect resonances with exotic quantum numbers? What experimental efforts are required to arrive at a coherent picture? For light mesons and baryons only those with ${\it up}$, ${\it down}$ and ${\it strange}$ quark content were considered. For heavy-light and heavy-heavy meson systems, those with ${\it charm}$ quarks were the focus. This document summarizes the discussions by the participants, which in turn led to the coherent conclusions we present here.

Searching for charmoniumlike states with hidden $s\bar{s}$

We investigate the processes $e^+e^-$$\to$$γJ/ψϕ$, $γJ/ψω$ and $π^0 J/ψη$ to search for the charmnium-like states with hidden $s\bar{s}$, such as $Y(4140)$, $Y(4274)$, $X(4350)$ and $X(3915)$. These processes will receive contributions from the charmed-strange meson rescatterings. When the center-of-mass energies of the $e^+e^-$ scatterings are taken around the $D_{s0}(2317)D_s^{*}$, $D_{s1}(2460)D_s$ or $D_{s1}(2460)D_s^{*}$ threshold, the anomalous triangle singularities can be present in the rescattering amplitudes, which implies a non-resonance explanation about the resonance-like structures. The positions of the anomalous triangle singularities are sensitive to the kinematics, which offers us a criterion to distinguish the kinematic singularities from genuine particles.

Spectrum of heavy baryons in the quark model

Single- and double- heavy baryons are studied in the constituent quark model. The model Hamiltonian is chosen as a standard one with two exceptions : (1) The color-Coulomb term depend on quark masses, and (2) an antisymmetric $LS$ force is introduced. Model parameters are fixed by the strange baryon spectra, $Λ$ and $Σ$ baryons. The masses of the observed charmed and bottomed baryons are, then, fairly well reproduced. Our focus is on the low-lying negative-parity states, in which the heavy baryons show specific excitation modes reflecting the mass differences of heavy and light quarks. By changing quark masses from the SU(3) limit to the strange quark mass, further to the charm and bottom quark masses, we demonstrate that the spectra change from the SU(3) symmetry patterns to the heavy quark symmetry ones.

QCD sum rules on the complex Borel plane

Borel transformed QCD sum rules conventionally use a real valued parameter (the Borel mass) for specifying the exponential weight over which hadronic spectral functions are averaged. In this paper, it is shown that the Borel mass can be generalized to have complex values and that new classes of sum rules can be derived from the resulting averages over the spectral functions. The real and imaginary parts of these novel sum rules turn out to have damped oscillating kernels and potentially contain a larger amount of information on the hadronic spectrum than the real valued QCD sum rules. As a first practical test, we have formulated the complex Borel sum rules for the phi meson channel and have analyzed them using the maximum entropy method, by which we can extract the most probable spectral function from the sum rules without strong assumptions on its functional form. As a result, it is demonstrated that, compared to earlier studies, the complex valued sum rules allow us to extract the spectral function with a significantly improved resolution and thus to study more detailed structures of the hadronic spectrum than previously possible.

Parity projection of QCD sum rules for the nucleon

The nucleon and its negative-parity excited states are examined in a maximum entropy method analysis of QCD sum rules. First, we rederive the parity projected sum rules for baryons using forward correlation functions. Doing this, the method is generalized so that higher order operator product expansion (OPE) terms can be calculated unambiguously. We then apply this approach to the nucleon channel taking into account all known first order alpha_s corrections to the Wilson coefficients of the OPE. As these corrections have turned out to be large, we suppress them by using a phase-rotated Gaussian kernel. Simultaneously, this phase rotation strongly suppresses the continuum contribution and improves the convergence of the OPE. The resulting sum rule has the interesting feature that it is dominated by the term containing the chiral condensate of dimension 3. Analyzing this sum rule by the maximum entropy method, we are able to extract information of both the positive and negative parity states.

Possible Existence of Charmonium-Nucleus Bound States

Possible existence of $(c\bar{c})-$nucleus bound states are examined. We adopt Gaussian potentials for the $η_{c}-N$ and $J/ψ-N$ interactions. The relations between the scattering lengths $a$ of $(c\bar{c})-N$ interactions and the binding energies of $η_{c}-NN$, $J/ψ-NN$ and $J/ψ-^{4}$He are given. The results show that scattering lengths $a \le -0.95$ fm are needed to make $η_{c}-NN$ and $J/ψ-NN$ bound states, while for $a \le -0.24$ fm there may exist a $J/ψ-^{4}$He bound state.

Production of doubly charmed tetraquarks with exotic color configurations in electron-positron collisions

Structure and production of doubly charmed tetraquarks T_cc (cc ubar dbar) are studied from the viewpoint of color configurations. Based on the diquark correlation, the tetraquark T_cc with I(JP)=0(1+) is considered to be stable against strong decay. We discuss that the mixing probability of color antitriplet and sextet cc components in T_cc is suppressed by 1/m_c^2, so the two configurations are separately realized in the heavy quark limit. Utilizing the nonrelativistic QCD framework, we evaluate the production cross sections of T_cc in electron-positron collisions. The momentum dependence of the cross section of color antitriplet is found to be different from that of sextet, which can be used to discriminate the color structure of the T_cc states in experimental measurements.

$Λ_c N$ bound states revisited

The one-boson exchange potential model for $Λ_cN$ is constructed and the possibility of $Λ_cN$ bound states is examined. We consider an effective Lagrangian for the charmed baryons, $Λ_c$, $Σ_c$, and $Σ_c^*$, reflecting the heavy quark symmetry, chiral symmetry, and hidden local symmetry. We determine the coupling constants using various methods. With the derived nonrelativistic potentials, we study the bound state problem of the $Λ_cN$ system and relevant coupled channel effects. It is found that molecular bound states of $Λ_cN$ are plausible, for which the channel couplings of $Σ_cN$ and $Σ_c^*N$ are essential.

Possible $Λ_cΛ_c$ molecular bound state

Possible $Λ_cΛ_c$ hadronic molecule is investigated in the one-pion-exchange potential model. In the study with this model, the heavier meson exchange effects are encoded into a phenomenological cutoff parameter and couplings to the nearby $Σ_cΣ_c$, $Σ_cΣ_c^*$, and $Σ_c^*Σ_c^*$ channels are essential. From the numerical results, we find that a molecular bound state of two $Λ_c$'s is possible, where the tensor force plays a crucial role, although the binding energies are sensitive to the cutoff parameter.

Thermal modification of bottomonium spectra from QCD sum rules with the maximum entropy method

The bottomonium spectral functions at finite temperature are analyzed by employing QCD sum rules with the maximum entropy method. This approach enables us to extract the spectral functions without any phenomenological parametrization, and thus to visualize deformation of the spectral functions due to temperature effects estimated from quenched lattice QCD data. As a result, it is found that Υand η_b survive in hot matter of temperature up to at least 2.3T_c and 2.1T_c, respectively, while χ_{b0} and χ_{b1} will disappear at T<2.5T_c. Furthermore, a detailed analysis of the vector channel shows that the spectral function in the region of the lowest peak at T=0 contains contributions from the excited states, Υ(2S) and Υ(3S), as well as the ground states Υ(1S). Our results at finite T are consistent with the picture that the excited states of bottomonia dissociate at lower temperature than that of the ground state. Assuming this picture, we find that Υ(2S) and Υ(3S) disappear at T=1.5-2.0T_c.

A Bayesian analysis of the nucleon QCD sum rules

QCD sum rules of the nucleon channel are reanalyzed, using the maximum entropy method (MEM). This new approach, based on the Bayesian probability theory, does not restrict the spectral function to the usual "pole + continuum"-form, allowing a more flexible investigation of the nucleon spectral function. Making use of this flexibility, we are able to investigate the spectral functions of various interpolating fields, finding that the nucleon ground state mainly couples to an operator containing a scalar diquark. Moreover, we formulate the Gaussian sum rule for the nucleon channel and find that it is more suitable for the MEM analysis to extract the nucleon pole in the region of its experimental value, while the Borel sum rule does not contain enough information to clearly separate the nucleon pole from the continuum.

A Bayesian approach to QCD sum rules

QCD sum rules are analyzed with the help of the Maximum Entropy Method. We develop a new technique based on the Bayesion inference theory, which allows us to directly obtain the spectral function of a given correlator from the results of the operator product expansion given in the deep euclidean 4-momentum region. The most important advantage of this approach is that one does not have to make any a priori assumptions about the functional form of the spectral function, such as the "pole + continuum" ansatz that has been widely used in QCD sum rule studies, but only needs to specify the asymptotic values of the spectral function at high and low energies as an input. As a first test of the applicability of this method, we have analyzed the sum rules of the rho-meson, a case where the sum rules are known to work well. Our results show a clear peak structure in the region of the experimental mass of the rho-meson. We thus demonstrate that the Maximum Entropy Method is successfully applied and that it is an efficient tool in the analysis of QCD sum rules.

Charmonium spectra at finite temperature from QCD sum rules with the maximum entropy method

Charmonia spectral functions at finite temperature are studied using QCD sum rules in combination with the maximum entropy method. This approach enables us to directly obtain the spectral function from the sum rules, without having to introduce any specific assumption about its functional form. As a result, it is found that while J/psi and eta_c manifest themselves as significant peaks in the spectral function below the deconfinement temperature T_c, they quickly dissolve into the continuum and almost completely disappear at temperatures between 1.0 T_c and 1.1 T_c.

Determination of the pi Sigma scattering lengths from the weak decays of Lambda_c

The scattering lengths of the pi Sigma systems are key quantities in understanding the structure of the Lambda(1405) resonance and the subthreshold extrapolation of the barK N interaction. We demonstrate that the pi Sigma scattering lengths can be extracted from the threshold cusp phenomena in the weak Lambda_c -> pi pi Sigma decays, analogously with Cabibbo's method for determination of the pi pi scattering length. We show that the substantial cusp effect should be observed in the spectrum, when the pi Sigma interaction in I=0 is strongly attractive to generate a near-threshold singularity, such as a bound state or a virtual state.

The Lambda* N interaction and two-body bound state based on chiral dynamics

The interaction of Lambda*=Lambda(1405) with a nucleon is studied from the viewpoint of chiral dynamics. We construct the coordinate space Lambda* N potential in the meson-exchange picture, which serves as a fundamental ingredient for the study of the few-body nuclear systems with a Lambda*, the Lambda*-hypernuclei. The coupling constants concerning Lambda* are determined based on the chiral unitary model picture for the meson-baryon scattering where Lambda* is described as a superposition of two resonance poles. Solving the coupled-channel two-body Lambda* N system, we find the higher energy Lambda* N state develops an s-wave quasi-bound state slightly below the threshold in the total spin S=0 channel, which acquires a finite width through the coupling to the lower energy Lambda* N channel. We show important roles of the Kbar exchange contribution to the Lambda* N potential.

$D\bar{D}$ production and their interactions

S and P wave $D\bar{D}$ scatterings are studied in a meson exchange model with the coupling constants obtained in the heavy quark effective theory. With the extracted P wave phase shifts and the separable potential approximation, we include the $D\bar{D}$ rescattering effect and investigate the production process $e^+e^-\to D\bar{D}$. We find that it is difficult to explain the anomalous line shape observed by the BES collaboration with this mechanism. Combining our model calculation and the experimental measurement, we estimate the upper limit of the nearly universal cutoff parameter to be 1.7 GeV. With this number, the upper limits of the binding energies of the S wave $D\bar{D}$ and $B\bar{B}$ bound states are obtained. Assuming that the S wave and P wave interactions rely on the same cutoff, our study provides a way of extracting the information about S wave molecular bound states from the P wave meson pair production.

In order to extract two low-lying states for each parity, we construct $2 \times 2$ cross correlators from flavor SU(3) ``octet'' and ``singlet'' baryon operators, and diagonalize them. Two-flavor CP-PACS gauge configurations are employed, which are generated with the renormalization-group improved gauge action and the ${\mathcal O}(a)$-improved quark action. Simulation are performed at three different $β$'s, $β= 1.80$, 1.95 and 2.10, whose corresponding lattice spacings are $a = 0.2150$, 0.1555 and 0.1076 fm. For each cutoff, we adopt four different hopping parameters, ($κ_{\rm val}, κ_{\rm sea}$). The corresponding pion masses range from about 500 MeV to 1.1 GeV. The results are extrapolated to the physical quark-mass point. Our results indicate that there are two negative-parity $Λ$ states nearly degenerate at around 1.6 GeV, whereas no state as low as $Λ(1405)$ is observed. By extracting the flavor components of each state, we find that the lowest (1st-excited) negative-parity state is dominated by flavor-singlet (flavor-octet) component.

Pseudoscalar-Meson Octet-Baryon Coupling Constants from two-flavor Lattice QCD

We evaluate the pseudoscalar-meson octet-baryon coupling constants and the corresponding axial charges in eight channels ($πN\N$, $πΣΣ$, $πΛΣ$, $KΛN$, $K ΣN $, $πΞΞ$, $KΛΞ$ and $KΣΞ$) in lattice QCD with two flavors of dynamical quarks. The parameter $α\equiv F/(F+D)$ representing the SU(3)-flavor symmetry is computed at each u,d-quark hopping parameter and at the flavor-SU(3) symmetric point where the three quark flavors are degenerate at the physical $s$-quark mass. In particular, we obtain $α=0.395(6)$ at the SU(3) symmetric limit. The quark-mass dependences of the coupling constants are obtained by changing the $u$- and the $d$-quark masses and we find that the SU(3)-flavor symmetry is broken by only a few percent at each quark-mass we employ.

S-wave pi-K scattering length from lattice QCD

The $S$-wave $πK$ scattering lengths are calculated for both the isospin 1/2 and 3/2 channels in the lattice QCD by using the finite size formula. We perform the calculation with $N_f=2+1$ gauge configurations generated on $32^3 \times 64$ lattice using the Iwasaki gauge action and nonperturbatively $O(a)$-improved Wilson action at $1/a = 2.17$ GeV. The quark masses correspond to $m_π= 0.30 - 0.70$ GeV. For $I=1/2$, to separate the contamination from excited states, we construct a $2 \times 2$ matrix of the time correlation function and diagonalize it. Here, we adopt the two kinds of operators, $\bar{s}u$ and $πK$. It is found that the signs of the scattering lengths are in agreement with experiment, namely attraction in $I=1/2$ and repulsion in $I=3/2$. We investigate the quark-mass dependence of the scattering lengths and also discuss the limitation of chiral perturbation theory.

A quark model analysis of the charge symmetry breaking in nuclear force

In order to investigate the charge symmetry breaking (CSB) in the short range part of the nuclear force, we calculate the difference of the masses of the neutron and the proton, $Δ{\rm M}$, the difference of the scattering lengths of the p-p and n-n scatterings, $Δa$, and the difference of the analyzing power of the proton and the neutron in the n-p scattering, $ΔA(θ)$, by a quark model. In the present model the sources of CSB are the mass difference of the up and down quarks and the electromagnetic interaction. We investigate how much each of them contributes to $Δ{\rm M}$, $Δa$ and $ΔA(θ)$. It is found that the contribution of CSB of the short range part in the nuclear force is large enough to explain the observed $ΔA(θ)$, while $Δa$ is rather underestimated.

Probing chiral symmetry of nucleon by threshold $ηπ$ production

Double meson production of the eta and pion at the threshold region is investigated in order to determine chiral property of the nucleon. The eta can be used as a probe for the negative parity nucleon $N^* \equiv N^*(1535)$ produced in the intermediate state. The coupling of the low energy pion in the final state is then used to extract the sign of the Yukawa coupling, $\gpRR$, which distinguishes the two realizations of chiral symmetry, either naive or mirror, for the nucleon.

$π^+$ Emission from Hypernuclei and the Weak $ΔI=3/2$ Transitions

Low energy $π^+$ emission in hypernuclear weak decays is studied in the soft pion limit. It is found that the $π^+$ decay amplitude is dominated by the $ΔI=3/2$ part of nonmesonic weak decays according to the soft pion theorem. The ratios, $R(π^+/soft π^-) $, for light hypernuclei are estimated in the direct quark mechanism, which predicts violation of the $ΔI=1/2$ rule, and found to be about 1/3 for $^4_ΛHe$.

Meson-baryon couplings and the $F/D$ ratio from QCD sum rules

Motivated by the recent work on the calculation of the $πNN$ coupling constant using QCD sum rule beyond the chiral limit, we construct the corresponding sum rules for the couplings, $ηNN$, $πΞΞ$, $ηΞΞ$, $πΣΣ$ and $ηΣΣ$. In constructing the $η$-baryon sum rules, we use the second moment of the $η$ wave function, which we obtain from the pion wave function after SU(3) rotation. In the SU(3) symmetric limit, we can identify the term responsible for the $F/D$ ratio in the OPE, which after the sum rule analysis gives $F/D\sim 0.2$, a factor of 3 smaller than from other studies. We also present a qualitative analysis including the SU(3) breaking terms.

Direct quark transition potential for $ΛN \to NN$ decay

The weak $ΛN\to NN$ transition is studied in the valence quark model approach. The quark component of the two baryon system is described in the quark cluster model and the weak transition potential is calculated by evaluating the matrix elements of the $ΔS=1$ effective weak Hamiltonian. The transition potential is applied to the decay of hypernuclei and the results are compared with available experimental data. The results indicate that direct quark process is significant and qualitatively different when compared with those in conventional meson-exchange calculations. The direct quark mechanism predicts the violation of the $ΔI = 1/2$ rule for this transition.

The pion at finite temperature

Properties of the pion are studied at finite temperature with the help of the PCAC and the QCD sum rule. The pionic mode is treated consistently with the thermal pions which consist of the ground state at finite temperature. The temperature dependence of the pion decay constant is estimated for $m_{q}=0$. No consistent solution is found above the critical temperature $T_{c} = \sqrt{2} f_π^{T=0} $. The QCD sum rule shows that the finite quark mass makes the critical temperature move up to a temperature where the dilute pion gas approximation is no more valid. It also suggests that the pion decay constant and the continuum threshold decrease by $\sim 15\%$ and $\sim 10\%$, respectively, and that the pion mass slightly ($\sim 3\%$) increases at $T=160MeV$, where the pion gas approximation seems to break down.

Nuclear Force in the Skyrme Model: Quasistatic Approach

Dynamics of two-Skyrmion systems is studied in the quasistatic approach. The quasistatic approach enables us to formulate the collective coordinate quantization of two-Skyrmion systems consistently with the 1/Nc expansion. By constructing quasistatic field configurations for largely separated two Skyrmions, their energies are computed for three independent relative orientations of the Skyrmions in the isospin space. The obtained energies are much lower than those for the product approximation. In particular, the repulsion in the two-pion range is considerably reduced.
